BLACKPINK wasted no time bringing the pop straight to your dome on Tuesday night’s (April 18) “Carpool Karaoke” ride on The Late Late Show. In what might be the series’ last commuter sing-along before host James Corden signs off next week, Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa and Rosé dove straight into “Pink Venom,” bouncing in their seats after getting assurances that Corden is a decent driver, and, as it turns out, a superfan who impressed Lisa by grabbing a bit of the song’s rap break.
They also described the rigorous band training camp they survived as teens before blowing up, including lessons in popping and Krumping, with Jisoo displaying the “big hands” and “angry face” gestures needed to pull off the latter dance move. In a testament to their sweet natures, though, all four broke into smiles and laughs as they tried to prove their tough Krump face bona fides.

When Corden showed off his Krump moves, ending his arm flourish with a pair of middle fingers, a giggly Rosé said that was “too much!” They quickly slipped into another fan favorite, “DDU DU DDU DU,” with Rosé crooning into an imaginary microphone as they bounced down the road. As trainees, the quartet said the adored TLC for their singing/rapping style, which, naturally, led to a smooth-as-silk cover of the beloved hip-hop-soul trio’s 1999 hit “No Scrubs.”

Corden ticked off a long list of world records the group has lodged, including most-streamed girl group on Spotify, most-subscribed YouTube artist channel globally and first K-pop group to hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts. So, of course, James challenged them to set some new Guinness world records, including the fastest time to assemble a Mr. Potato Head, the most hand claps in a minute and the most Jenga blocks removed in a minute.

Spoiler: they failed every one.

The failure didn’t last long as they busted into “How You Like That,” featuring Lisa’s swaggering rap and some backseat choreo from Jenny and Jisoo. The ride ended with the quartet fangirling over another generation’s No. 1 girl group: The Spice Girls, with Lisa saying she was obsessed with the British “Wannabe” singers as a kid and Jenny adding that she loved how they each had their own unique characters.

Corden couldn’t resist asking the women to come up with their own Spicy nicknames, with Rosé quickly dubbed “Aussie Pink,” Lisa named “Boss Pink,” Jenny taking “Shy Pink” and Jisoo rounding out with “Nail Pink.” They ended with a fun run through “Wannabe,” with Rosé throwing up hand hearts and all four going hard on the chorus.

On Saturday (April 15), BLACKPINK became the first Korean act to headline Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, after making history as the first K-pop girl group to perform at the legendary fest in 2019. . “So… let me start off with, four years ago we were invited to perform here for you at Coachella at the Sahara tent and that made a mark in all of our hearts,” Rosé told the crowd last weekend. ”I must say, this is a dream come true … the reason all four of us are here is because of you.”

Corden’s final Late Late Show will air on April 27.

Five months after his tragic passing, Aaron Carter‘s cause of death was made public on Tuesday (April 18).

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner ruled the former child star’s death accidental, stating that he drowned in the bathtub at his home in Lancaster, Calif., after inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam.

According to reporting by both People and TMZ, the deadly combination of the gas, typically used in cans of compressed air, and the generic version of Xanax caused Carter to become “incapacitated while in the bathtub” and eventually slip below the surface of the water while under the influence.

At the time of his death, the singer’s older brother, Backstreet Boys star Nick Carter, posted an emotional and devastating memorial to him, writing, “My heart is broken. Even though my brother and I have had a complicated relationship, my love for him has never ever faded. I have always held on to the hope that he would somehow, someday want to walk a healthy path and eventually find the help that he so desperately needed…God, Please take care of my baby brother.” Nick Carter has since launched a mental health fund in Aaron’s memory as well.

Other tributes honoring Carter poured in across social media from everyone from Hilary Duff — whom he dated briefly in the early 2000s — and New Kids on the Block to Paris Hilton, Christy Carlson Romano, Melissa Joan Hart and more. Controversy erupted among the onetime teen heartthrob’s fanbase when he was left out of the “In Memoriam” segment at the 2023 Grammy Awards just a few months later.

Taste that pink venom! Jisoo finally offered her thoughts on Taylor Swift dancing along to BLACKPINK‘s performance of “Pink Venom” at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards in a new interview on Tuesday (April 18).

“Seeing Taylor Swift, someone I listened to a lot growing up, dancing along to our music… I was like, ‘Is this real life?’” the K-pop idol told Teen Vogue while promoting her new solo release ME. “That kind of feeling. For us it was inspiring and a great experience.”

The performance of the lead single from 2022’s Born Pink was the girl group’s grand debut at a U.S. awards show. Jisoo’s bandmate Lisa also took home the best K-pop award for her solo single “Lalisa” during the ceremony, beating out the likes of BTS, Itzy, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids and TWICE. (“We were so proud,” Jisoo says of Lisa’s win.)

Meanwhile, Swift has continued to show love for “Pink Venom” by including the bombastic, swaggering single on the pre-show playlist ahead of each sold-out stop on The Eras Tour.

During the sit-down, Jisoo also revealed she hasn’t quite “fully accepted” some elements of her global stardom. “Even now, I don’t get recognized that much,” she said in her native Korean. “When I walk around, people aren’t like, ‘Are you BLACKPINK’s Jisoo?’ That rarely happens.”

Last weekend, Jisoo, Rosé, Lisa and Jennie headlined day 2 of Coachella, making history as the first South Korean artists to serve as topliners at the Indio, Calif., festival just four years after they first performed at its 2019 edition.

Check out Jisoo dishing on Taylor Swift and more to Teen Vogue here.

Shhh. The Jonas Brothers will be playing three special shows later this month, but keep it on the down low.

They’ll perform somewhere in Los Angeles on April 25, Dallas-Fort Worth, Tex. on April 26 and Baltimore, Md. on April 28. “Heads up Los Angeles, Dallas-Fort Worth and Baltimore…,” the band wrote in an Instagram announcement. “We’re coming to town for three secret shows on April 25th, 26th and 28th!”

The news comes just a week and a half after the Jo Bros dropped their new single “Waffle House” on April 7, effectively launching their new era. Their next full-length record, The Album, is slated for May 12, their first LP since 2019’s Billboard 200 No. 1 Happiness Begins.

Joe, Nick and Kevin performed the new track while serving as musical guests on April 8’s episode of Saturday Night Live. They also debuted “Walls” featuring Jon Bellion on the show, and took part in a hilarious “Sally O’Malley” dance sketch with that night’s host Molly Shannon.

Don’t ever challenge Rihanna to a drink-off. Seth Meyers has revealed that after hitting the bars with the superstar in June 2019 for his show’s “Day Drinking” bit, he was as hammered as he’s ever been in his life, while RihRih seemed pretty much unaffected.

“Rihanna was the drunkest I’ve ever been, and it was worth every second of it,” the late night host shared on Monday night’s (April 18) visit to the The Late Late Show with James Corden. “First of all, I should note that — hate to break the news here — but she’s younger than me. We drank the same amount and then she definitely went out, like she was fine.”

“She walked out, she looked as good as she did when we started,” Meyers continued. “I went home, immediately fell asleep in the hallway of my apartment. Got in the door, fell asleep. My wife passive aggressively, James, put a water next to my head and went to bed.”

For proof, the former SNL star shared a photo of him passed out on his back in his hallway, limbs spread out limply to the side with his cell phone resting on his chest. “I like that I have my phone on my chest just in case Rihanna called,” Meyers joked to friend he will share an overlapping late night spot with for one more week; Corden is signing off from The Late Late Show on April 27.

He and the Fenty Beauty mogul filmed their day drinking escapade in 2019 for a recurring segment on Late Night with Seth Meyers, which has also seen the likes of Lizzo, the Jonas Brothers and Lorde getting tanked in broad daylight with the host. During the segment, Seth and Rih chugged beers, enjoyed bizarre cocktails named after Rihanna songs — “Under My Rumbrella,” for example — and played increasingly sloppy drinking games. And Meyers, indeed, did seem quite sloshed by the end of it.

Watch Seth Meyers reminisce on day drinking with Rihanna above.

South Korean singer-songwriter IU (real name: Lee Ji-eun) re-enters Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart (dated April 22) at No. 1, becoming the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time, thanks to her new hit with Agust D (BTS member Suga‘s musical alter ego), “People Pt.2.”

The song, released April 7, sold 18,000 downloads in the U.S. in its opening week, according to Luminate. It launches at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales, Rap Digital Song Sales and World Digital Song Sales charts. It also starts at No. 16 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart and No. 24 on the Billboard Global 200.su

IU has appeared on Billboard’s charts for over a decade. She first appeared on a listing in December 2011, when her single “You & I” debuted and peaked at No. 3 on World Digital Song Sales. “People Pt.2.” is her 11th top 10 on the chart and second No. 1, after “Eight,” featuring Suga, in May 2020.

“People Pt.2” also earns IU her 21st career entry on World Digital Song Sales, extending her record for the most among female soloists. Among all solo acts, she ties Burna Boy and another BTS member, RM, for the fifth-most, after Wizkid (28), Jay Park (25), Davido and TAEYEON (24 each). BTS leads all acts with a record 146.

The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

Bad Bunny‘s team had a simple message for upset Harry Styles fans on Monday: no se pretende faltar al respeto. After Benito appeared to shade Harry during his historic headlining Coachella set on Friday night, the reggaeton superstar’s team said a tweet that appeared behind Bunny during the performance was not what it seemed.
The tweet stated: “goodnight benito could do as it was but harry could never do el apagaon.” The latter is a reference to the song “El Apagón” from Bunny’s acclaimed Un Verano Sin Ti album and the former was just confusing. On Monday (April 17) a rep for Bunny told Rolling Stone that the singer had no comment, adding that Benito did not approve of the message in the tweet.

The visual content company that produced the images for his set, Sturdy.co, also reportedly confirmed that Bunny did not approve the Styles-dissing tweet and said it also did not intend to throw shade at the British singer/actor.

“Our intention is to create light hearted designs that embody Bad Bunny’s personality and amplify the experience he presents as a performer,” Sturdy.co reportedly said in an Instagram Story statement on Monday. “The request from the artist during the visuals for ‘El Apagón’ performance was to use the image only and not text from the tweet, which we take responsibility for and correct it for [this] Friday’s performance. These visuals are a celebration of Bad Bunny and his dedication to empowering his native island, Puerto Rico.”

While Bunny has not reacted to the viral tweetstorm set off by the apparent Harry shade, fans speculated that it suggested he could easily have penned Style’s hit “As It Was,” while there was no way Styles could have written “El Apagón”; Bunny’s Un Verano album was up for record and song of the year at this year’s Grammy Awards and was bested by Styles’ Harry’s House for album of the year.

Bad Bunny became Coachella’s first-ever solo Latino headliner on Friday, during which he shared a poignant message about life in the celebrity bubble. “Humbly speaking, people think they know the lives of famous people, but they don’t,” he told his crowd. “They don’t know what we feel, what we live through,” he continued. “They will never know what a heart can feel. Don’t believe everything you hear. You won’t get to know the real me through a video on Instagram, an interview or a TikTok.”

At press time it did not appear that Styles has reacted to the tweet’s display during Bad Bunny’s action-packed two-hour set, which included special guests Jhayco, Jowell & Randy and Ñengo Flow, Post Malone and a jet ski.

By most accounts Frank Ocean‘s first live performance in six years and eagerly anticipated headlining set at Coachella was confusing at best and not really what Oceanographers expected. But one person who had nothing but high praise for the elusive singer’s live presentation was Justin Bieber, who posted an effusive Instagram tribute to the artist he said “deeply” moved him.

Next to an image of Ocean’s face blown up on the stage’s massive screens, Bieber wrote, “I was blown away by Frank Oceans Coachella performance. His artistry is simply unmatched, his style, his taste, his voice, his attention to detail.. I was deeply moved. It made me want to keep going and get better as an artist. He continues to set the bar high and gave me a night I will never forget! Thanks Frank.”

Bieber’s plaudit was a rare voice of support about the performance that reportedly confused and disappointed many fans when the livestream of the show was cancelled at the last minute, the artist offered no merch for sale and Ocean took the stage an hour late to sing what was described as a low-energy set of reworked songs from his catalog. Videos showed a seated Ocean and his band mostly obscured by a group of dancers walking in circles around the stage.

On Monday, Ocean’s team confirmed to Billboard that the enigmatic singer suffered an unspecified ankle injury during on-site rehearsals in the week before the show that required the last-minute scrapping of a planned on-stage ice rink that was built for Sunday night’s headline performance. The skaters cast for the show then still joined Ocean onstage and wore custom Prada puffer jackets, acting as impromptu backup dancers.

Ocean was originally slated to headline the 2020 Coachella, which was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s unclear how the reported injury will impact Ocean’s weekend 2 performance on Sunday (April 23).

Bebe Rexha is calling out TikTok for highlighting a suggested search questioning her weight.

“Seeing that search bar is so upsetting,” the pop star tweeted above a screenshot from the social app showing “bebe rexha weight” written into the related search history. “I’m not mad cause it’s true. I did gain weight. But it just sucks. Thank you to all the people who love me no matter what.”

The 2023 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards performer had already gotten support from fans in the very screenshot she posted, with one writing, “I [love] her for being so unique and real, she loves herself inside and outside and we can see it” with a heart-hands emoji. Another simply added, “Beautiful she is” to the hundreds of comments on TikTok.

Other Twitter users called out TikTok’s interface for suggesting the search terms in the first place. “Someone at @tiktokus’s policies team need change what comes up on the related search bar, right now! This is toxic and terrible!” wrote popular YouTuber Kandee Johnson. “@TikTokSupport you need to do better. Care about the people on your platform and not making it toxic like this.”

Meanwhile, Rexha’s self-titled third album BEBE is due April 28 via Warner Records, preceded by the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 David Guetta collab “I’m Good (Blue)” and the follow-ups “Heart Wants What It Wants” and “Call on Me.”

Check out Rexha’s tweet about TikTok below.
