Call her Kim Petty! On Tuesday (May 2), Kim Petras unveiled the music video for “Alone,” her new single with Nicki Minaj.
In the clip, the German pop princess steps into a number of provocative roles, from a, err, clarinet enthusiast in a marching-band uniform to a hip-thrusting fitness lover who knows her way around an exercise ball to a full-blown naughty nurse as she sings, “I been tryna give it to you all night/ What’s it gonna take to getcha all alone?/ I just want you here by my side/ I don’t wanna be here, baby, on my own.”
Meanwhile, the queen of the Barbz pops up halfway through the visual to join forces with Petras in matching, all-black latex ensembles as she delivers her signature, swaggering guest verse. “It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras/ Main character syndrome, they extras/ We ain’t answerin’ questions/ Click on a bi— ‘fore she finish her sentence,” she raps over the track’s sample of Alice Deejay’s 1999 club classic “Better Off Alone.”
In a recent sit-down on Minaj’s Queen Radio, Petras gushed over collaborating with the Pink Friday star, calling their duet the “biggest thing in the world that could ever happen to anyone.”
“It doesn’t feel real still,” she added in an earlier interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I love her and I’m so inspired by her always, it’s crazy to me. I don’t know how she does it, but she’s just the greatest ever.”
Debuting at No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 dated May 6, “Alone” has already become the trans pioneer’s second career entry on the chart following the success of “Unholy,” her Grammy-winning No. 1 smash with Sam Smith. It’s expected to be included on the tracklist for her upcoming major-label debut album out later this year.

Jennie of BLACKPINK strutted the carpet at the 2023 Met Gala on Monday night (May 1) and dished in an interview all about being there for the first time.
“I am everywhere, this is my first Met,” the K-pop idol told Vogue correspondent Emma Chamberlain upon arrival at the star-studded soiree. “I was really excited until I got off my car, like, two minutes ago.”
To fit with the evening’s theme — Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty — Jennie wore a vintage Chanel minidress from the late Lagerfeld’s fall/winter runway collection for the iconic fashion house in 1990. She accessorized the white number perfectly with black opera gloves and matching tights, and as a longtime Chanel ambassador, the rapper had insider access to the look for her big moment.
“I’m so lucky to have the Chanel team recreate this look from the ’90s — the one that Karl did, so I’m just, like, so happy!” she gushed.
Being her first time at the exclusive event, Jennie admitted she was looking forward to “literally everything” and had no idea what to expect, but also revealed the advice her BLACKPINK bandmate Rosé gave her after attending the gala in 2022 for In America: An Anthology of Fashion. “Rosie, she was here last year. She told me just have fun, so that’s the plan for today,” the “SOLO” rapper said.
Jennie also took to social media in the hours after the Met Gala to show off her dress from every angle, writing, “Merci mon chancel family for this dream look.”

Mariah Carey took to social media on Tuesday morning (May 2) to celebrate Some Like It Hot scoring more than a dozen Tony Award nominations.
“Congratulations to the amazing cast and crew!!! Couldn’t have asked for better news to wake up to!!!” the Songbird Supreme turned Broadway producer shared on her Instagram Stories.
The musical leads this year’s pack of Tony nominees with 13 nominations, including best musical, best performance by a leading actor in a musical (both Christian Borle and J. Harrison Ghee), best performance by a featured actor in a musical (Kevin Del Aguila), best performance by a featured actress in a musical (NaTasha Yvette Williams), best direction, best book, best original score and more.
Carey, meanwhile, serves more than one function in the musical. Not only is she a member of the production team, but she also lent her voice to the pre-show announcement before the curtain rises. (“Welcome to the Shubert Theater!” she tells the audience each night. “At this time, please take a moment to turn off your cell phones. And remember: The use of photographic equipment and recording devices is strictly prohibited. And now, Some Like It Hot.”)
Should Some Like It Hot take home the Tony for best musical, Mariah would technically be halfway to EGOT status, thanks to the five Grammys she’s collected over the years out of 34 total nominations — including wins for best new artist in 1991 and best R&B song for 2005’s “We Belong Together.”

Rihanna, A$AP Rocky and their baby on the way were a glamorous party of three at the Met Gala on Monday night (May 1). And, while on the red carpet showing off her Karl Lagerfeld-inspired ballgown, the 35-year-old Fenty mogul opened up about how her experience with baby no. 2 has differed from her first pregnancy with her now one-year-old son.
“It’s so different from the first one,” she said, stopping to chat with ET on the sidelines. “No cravings. Tons of nausea. Everything’s different, but I’m enjoying it.”
“I feel good,” added the singer, who’s now in her third trimester. “I feel energetic.”
Rih also spilled on her baby boy waiting back at home, whom she welcomed with Rocky almost exactly a year ago on May 13. As his days of being an only child tick down, Rihanna has recently been treating fans to Instagram photos and videos of her son. In one post, he adorably enjoys his first Easter, and in another, he looks super cool sporting a Fendi jacket.
“I’m in love,” she told the publication of her firstborn. “I’m obsessed and I don’t even feel guilty about it.”
A$AP, who was at Rihanna’s side throughout the red carpet proceedings, also chimed in. “[He’s] growing big,” the rapper gushed. “Beautiful, happy baby.”
Some of the last people to arrive at the annual fashion extravaganza, the couple looked outstanding Monday night wearing their clothing tributes to Lagerfeld’s career. The “Umbrella” musician stunned in a white Valentino wedding gown decorated with white fabric roses, while Rocky paid homage to the late designer’s love of Scotland by arriving in a kilt.
One night prior, Rih teased her own Met Gala appearance by posting a series of photos wearing a furry, black and white Chanel look out in New York City. Both looks fit snugly over her baby bump, a hallmark of the singer’s trend-setting maternity style.

Billed as the pop rock trio’s most ambitious outing yet, Five Albums. One Night. The Tour kicks off in August with a pair of shows in New York City’s Yankee Stadium. The band will then spend about two months making stops at venues across the United States — Chicago’s Wrigley Field, Arlington’s Globe Life Field and Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, to name a few — as well as touching down for one show in Canada at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.
Fans’ best chance at securing in-demand tickets is Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan presale, which opens next Tuesday (May 9). Registration for the presale is open now through Saturday (May 6), and those selected will receive a special Verified Fan access code prior to the sale.
The touring news comes just 10 days ahead of the May 12 release of The Album, the Jonas Brothers’ first record since 2019’s Happiness Begins. Kevin, Joe and Nick have effectively been working toward The Tour since February, when they staged a five-night run of intimate shows on Broadway in New York. Each night, they played a different one of their albums, starting with 2007’s self-titled LP and ending with the live debut of The Album.
In April, the guys played two sold-out shows at Yankee Stadium in New York, both of which included run-throughs of all five of the albums spread out across five nights on Broadway two months prior. This format will now be applied to every night of The Tour, as explained by Kevin, Joe and Nick in an Instagram announcement video.

American Idol will be down two judges on Sunday night (May 7) when Katy Perry and Lionel Richie jet to England to take part in the coronation of King Charles III. But they will have some serious ringers filling in during their absence: Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette.
During Monday night’s (May 1) show it was revealed that the pair will join Luke Bryan as guest judges on Sunday during the show’s “616” episode, where America will cast their votes for the top 5. Morissette will pull double-duty as guest judge and mentor to the top 10, who will perform her songs live, with the finalists also teaming up with each other on duets of Sheeran’s hits.
Both Sheeran and Morissette will perform on the episode, with Alanis sharing one of her classics and Sheeran playing his new single, the ballad “Boat.” And though Katy and Lionel will be getting the royal treatment, they will check in from Windsor Castle on Idol LIVE.
The top 10 battled it out on Monday night’s episode, with Hawaiian high-schooler Iam Tongi crushing it with his version of Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World,” complete with some homey touches. After ditching his trusty guitar for Sunday night’s episode during performance of Sam Cooke’s “Bring It On Home To Me,” Tongi donned a colorful Hawaiian shirt and performed with a ukulele. Tyson Venegas and Marybeth Byrd were eliminated, while Oliver Steele earned a judge’s save.
American Idol airs live coast-to-coast on Sunday from 8-10 p.m. ET/5-7 p.m. PT on ABC.
Ed Sheeran is opening up his world with the new docuseries Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All, this week, and Billboard has an exclusive clip ahead of the Wednesday (May 3) premiere.
The preview shows the pop star collaborating in the studio with The National’s Aaron Dessner on what will become – (Subtract) as he explains via confessional the multitude of hardships that hit his wife Cherry Seaborn, his best friend Jamal Edwards and him all in the space of a single month.
“I was hit by heavy stuff kind of one after the other,” the hitmaker explains. “They found a tumor in Cherry’s arm, the diagnosis wasn’t good and, ya know, she’s pregnant and I can’t do anything. And then suddenly I’m in this three-week court case. And then, um…Jamal dies.
“The moment you find out that the worst thing in the world has happened to someone that you truly love with all your heart, you feel like you’re drowning and can’t get out from under it,” Sheeran continues. “Just from that situation, all of these songs came out.”
The British singer-songwriter then goes on to record his new song “Boat,” which was released as the second single from his forthcoming album Subtract, with just an acoustic guitar.
The four-part docuseries will arrive on Disney+ on Wednesday, just two days before Subtract‘s Friday release. The studio set will complete Sheeran’s long-planned sequence of five mathematically themed albums, which began with his 2011 debut + (Plus) followed by 2014’s x (Multiply), 2017’s ÷ (Divide) and 2021’s = (Equals).

Taylor Swift returns to No. 1 (up from No. 3) on the Billboard Artist 100 chart (dated May 6), reigning as the top musical act in the United States for a record-extending 65th week. The live acoustic album, which was issued on vinyl (its first physical release of any kind) for Record Store Day (April 22) at participating independent record stores, debuts at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 75,000 equivalent album units earned, all from vinyl sales, in the April 21-27 tracking week, according to Luminate.
Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions is the companion album to the Disney+ documentary film of the same name, released in 2020.
Swift charts 10 total albums on the Billboard 200, including three in the top 10. The last act to land at least three albums in the top 10 at the same time was Prince in 2016, following his death. Here’s a look at all of Swift’s albums on the latest list:
Rank, TitleNo. 3, Folklore: The Long Pond Studio SessionsNo. 4, MidnightsNo. 10, LoverNo. 12, FolkloreNo. 21, 1989No. 22, reputationNo. 27, Red (Taylor’s Version)No. 29, EvermoreNo. 41, Fearless (Taylor’s Version)No. 66, Speak Now
Since the Billboard 200 combined separate stereo and mono rankings in August 1963, Prince is the only other artist to chart at least 10 albums in the top 100 in a single week, as he posthumously totaled 15 in the region on the May 14, 2016, survey.
Among other Artist 100 chart moves, Agust D, aka Suga of BTS, re-enters at No. 3, a new high (following a week at No. 4 in 2020), as his new solo LP D-Day arrives at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 (140,000 units). It becomes his first solo top 10 album; BTS has notched seven.
Five BTS members have hit the Artist 100’s top 10: Jimin (No. 1, one week), Agust D (No. 3), RM (No. 6), j-hope (No. 9) and JIN (No. 10). BTS has ruled for 21 weeks, the most among groups since the chart began in 2014.
The Artist 100 measures artist activity across key metrics of music consumption, blending album and track sales, radio airplay and streaming to provide a weekly multi-dimensional ranking of artist popularity.
Miley Cyrus is headed to Human Resources. Netflix announced Monday (May 1) that the pop star will lend her voice talents as a guest star on the upcoming second season of the Big Mouth spin-off.
The streamer also dropped an animated teaser with the news, which finds Randall Park’s Pete the Logic Rock spilling the tea to the other characters that Cyrus will play an undisclosed role in the new season. “Oh my god, did you just say Miley?” Brandon Kyle Goodman’s Walter the Lovebug pops up over the wall of his cubicle to ask before Maya Rudolph’s Connie the Hormone Monstress runs over excitedly to add, “As in Hannah Montana?” (“This is so exciting!” declares Aidy Bryant’s Emmy the Lovebug as Pete spills his thermos of water thanks to an overexcited Connie.)
Other guest stars in the season include Florence Pugh, Eugene Levy, Sam Richardson, Niecy Nash-Betts and Isabella Rossellini, along with returning voices like Hugh Jackman, Pamela Adlon, Henry Winkler, Thandiwe Newton, Rosie Perez, Bobby Cannavale, Cole Escola and more.
Cyrus’ stint on the very adult Human Resources will be her first TV role in the wake of releasing her eighth album Endless Summer Vacation. Led by the global No. 1 smash “Flowers,” the studio set bowed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Since then, its ever-blooming lead single scored a rare hat trick by simultaneously topping the Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay and Adult Contemporary charts.
Watch the monsters of Human Resources geek out over Miley’s pending arrival in the season 2 teaser below.
Looking for some motivation to help power you through the start of another work week? We feel you, and with some stellar new pop tunes, we’ve got you covered.
These 10 tracks from artists including Jessie Ware, Ryan Beatty, Peach PRC, K.Flay, The Aces and more will get you energized to take on the week. Pop any of these gems into your personal playlists — or scroll to the end of the post for a custom playlist of all 10.
K.Flay, “Raw Raw”
She might be singing and rapping about feeling emotionally gutted and exposed, but K.Flay exudes self-assurance and drive on latest single “Raw Raw.” The sinuous, dark pop banger builds up to a cathartic guitar climax while the singer-songwriter somehow makes lines like, “It’s hard to escape the wounds of the past / Every time I say something real, I want to take it back” sound akin to battle cries. – Joe Lynch
Jessie Ware, “Freak Me Now”
Fire as a metaphor for horniness was a staple of the Paradise Garage era, so it’s only fitting that for her delicious disco opus That! Feels Good!, Jessie Ware fans the flames of dancefloor lust with a swirling delight like “Freak Me Now.” “Strike if you’re hot like fire / Put it in this gasoline / Let me know if you want that oochie-coochie or that in between” should sound dirtier, but Ware delivers it with such a matter-of-fact assurance that it feels as much like a statement of purpose as it does a come on. – J. Lynch
The Aces, “I’ve Loved You For So Long”
The Aces seem to be holding a winning hand for their upcoming album, which drops June 2. Recently shared title track “I’ve Loved You For So Long” is a yearning slice of indie pop romanticism that clips along thanks to a sweet, syncopated rhythm and a gently optimistic vocal delivery from singer Cristal Ramirez. – J. Lynch
Peach PRC, “Kinda Famous”
Consider “Kinda Famous,” Australian singer-songwriter Peach PRC’s glistening new single, the tongue-in-cheek version of Eminem’s “Stan”: over streamlined electro-pop production, she translates her super-fan status of an artist into happily-ever-after romance (“I’ve picked out all our baby names / Changed your picture frames to my face!”). The disarming quality of Peach PRC’s voice sells the concept — even when she’s exhibiting stalker behavior, she can’t help but charm you onto the dance floor. – Jason Lipshutz
Ryan Beatty, “Bruises Off The Peach”
Ryan Beatty co-produced his just released album, Calico, with Ethan Gruska, who’s worked extensively with Phoebe Bridgers and Boygenius — and on the wondrous “Bruises Off The Peach,” you can hear a similar mix of finger-picked folk-pop, incisive lyrics and carefully rendered melodies. Yet Beatty’s aesthetic never sounds derivative: his delivery is gentle until he needs to reach skyward, widen the stance of the song and find a wholly satisfying conclusion. – J. Lipshutz
Neriah, “Even If It Hurts”
On “Even If It Hurts,” Neriah’s words fall out of her mouth with a nervous energy, sentiments are blurted out and syllables run together — such is the occupational hazard of trying to decide whether to end a relationship. The song’s instrumentation never becomes intrusive, and some sections only carry muted percussion, but the production keeps the attention on Neriah’s inner monologue, and she shines in the spotlight. – J. Lipshutz
Jess Glynne, “Silly Me”
Jess Glynne’s “Silly Me” ends a three-year hiatus for the U.K. star, and she’s been missed: as one of the most soulful voices in modern British pop music, Glynne has been able to translate a ton of emotion across various projects. “Silly Me” is about “learning from your mistakes,” as Glynne states in a press release, and she addresses self-growth in the form of a midtempo ballad that invites swaying and finger-snapping, while her sparkling voice remains as dignified as ever. – J. Lipshutz
Palehound, “The Clutch”
The video for Palehound’s searing new single “The Clutch” presents a riveting juxtaposition: El Kempner contorts their face into some the best mad-as-hell snarls in recent music video memory, yet the bristling track is also defined by its light, all-encompassing pop melodies. Seeing such anger play out in the form of hummable hooks turns “The Clutch” into a must-watch, and stokes even more excitement around Palehound’s upcoming album, Eye On The Bat. – J. Lipshutz
Until The Ribbon Breaks with Lucius, “Everything Else But Rain”
Following a multiyear self-enforced hiatus, the Welsh artist who performs as Until the Ribbon Breaks has returned with an expectedly stunning and soulful new song, “Everything Else But Rain” — the first of more new music to come. Featuring indie-pop duo Lucius, the infectious song is a celebratory return for the act, but also bears a subtly somber undertone — and it’s thanks to that juxtaposition that the song truly shines. – Lyndsey Havens
JOSEPH, “Fireworks”
Indie-pop sister trio JOSEPH released its fourth album, The Sun, last week, which includes standout single “Fireworks.” On the upbeat track, the sisters harmonize about how “love songs might be no good for me,” and growing tired of friends asking about “settling down, buying a house.” Throughout the song, they assert their stance of not wanting to “put my fire underground” or “be holding out forever” and offer listeners the understanding and acceptance of wanting no less than fireworks. — L. Havens
