She performed a series of her own hits, including “Dark Horse,” “Part of Me” and “Firework,” before taking on a cover Whitney Houston’s 1986 classic, “Greatest Love of All.” She also took a moment to address the crowd, explaining how personal this upcoming presidential election is to her.

“Four years ago, I became a mother,” she told the audience. “Best decision I ever made. Orlando [Bloom] and I, we welcomed our daughter Daisy and she is the reason I am voting for Kamala Harris.”

Perry continued that she admires Harris’ goal “to protect our rights as women to make decisions about our own bodies,” adding, “I know that she’ll protect my daughter’s future and your children’s future.”

This past weekend, Harris made a cameo on Saturday Night Live. She appeared live in an election pep talk sketch during the Nov. 2 episode’s cold open — opposite Maya Rudolph, who was portraying her. Rudolph’s Kamala Harris, preparing a speech, looks into a mirror and sees the real Kamala Harris. “It’s nice to see you, Kamala,” says her reflection (the true Harris). “I’m just here to remind you that you got this — because you can do something your opponent cannot: open doors.”

In September, Swift took to social media to voice her support for the Harris campaign. Swift expressed her admiration for Harris, calling her a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and a “warrior” for causes including LGBTQ+ rights and women’s reproductive freedoms. She also called out Trump posting fake AI images that had falsely suggested she supported him.

“It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation,” she said about the doctored images. “It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s ‘The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY’: Every Song Ranked

TOMORROW X TOGETHER continue to solidify their place as one of K-pop’s greatest storytellers with The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY. This reflective yet hopeful mini-album captures the nuanced emotional spectrum of youth through some of their most subtle, vocally challenging songs to date.

The six-track mini album release takes listeners on a journey that melds TXT’s genre-blending tendencies with light, fresh touches of the quintet’s impressive falsettos and R&B-infused harmonies. Thematically, The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY delves into love, longing, and personal growth, yet there’s a gentle vulnerability here that sets it apart from the group’s previous, more intense releases.

Similarly to the racing emotions delivered in the Billboard 200-topping band’s previously acclaimed singles like “0X1=LOVESONG (I Know I Love You)” and “LO$ER=LO♡ER” SANCTUARY’s lead single, “Over the Moon,” is a standout by showing matured restraint and letting the members’ vocals shine over a layered mix of genres. Premiered live at the group’s massive encore concert at Seoul’s KSPO Dome in the ongoing world tour, the song naturally established itself as a special track among TOMORROW X TOGETHER fans — affectionately known as MOAs. The EP is made all the more special by members Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and HueningKai all contributing throughout the EP as both songwriters and composers.

Accompanied by a visually striking music video, “Over the Moon” uses symbolic imagery—raindrops, ladybugs, bouquets—to evoke the sweet innocence as well as the trepidation of young love. Meanwhile, the artwork and concept photos for The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY have ranged from presenting the guys as adorable, dreamy lovesick puppies to edgy bikers and ice princes.

Like the range of concepts representing SANCTUARY visually, the BIGHIT MUSIC boys experiment with sounds that can evoke nostalgia and longing without losing any modern edge. From lead single “Over the Moon” to sure-to-become-fan-favorite b-sides here’s our ranking of the songs on TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s mini album The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY.

Josh Groban, Michael Bublé & Other Highlights From David Foster’s 75th Birthday Bash at the Hollywood Bowl

David Foster spent his 75th birthday how he has undoubtedly spent many before it: working. Sunday night (Nov. 3), Foster celebrated his milestone at a sold-out Hollywood Bowl show (to be fair, his actual birthday was Nov. 1) with many of the artists who he has worked with as a songwriter, arranger or producer. According to a sign flashed on the giant screens at the Bowl, the music he has helped create has sold more than half a billion records.

From Whitney Houston and Celine Dion to Michael Bublé, Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, Toni Braxton, Barbra Streisand and so many more, Foster is practically responsible for his own lush, romantic  adult contemporary genre. Or as he put it, “I write songs you make babies to.”

The evening, which he said, “sort of feels like my funeral while I’m alive,” featured many of those bold-type names (sorry, no Dion or Streisand), but it was Foster’s birthday, and he could do whatever he wanted. And what he wanted to do was spend some of the first hour of the nearly three-hour show focusing on new talent (he did discover Groban when Groban was still a teenager, after all). That included  Britain’s Got Talent 2024 winner Sydnie Christmas performing “My Way,” which she sang on the series’ semi-finals (the song’s writer, Paul Anka, was on the poster as a guest, but wasn’t there. Same with Kenny G), as well as an 18-year old pianist Brandon Goldberg, who performed a jazzy version of Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire” with trumpeter Chris Botti, and Jasmine Rogers, who will play Betty Boop in Foster’s forthcoming Broadway musical, Boop!, previewing a spirited number from the show.

While those are for sure names to watch given Foster’s pedigree for working with young talent, it was the established names that provided the fireworks and really showed over and over that among all his many, many talents, first and foremost may be Foster’s gift for working with great singers.

Below are some of the highlights of the evening.

Shygirl Takes Us on the Road With the Sweat Tour: Photo Gallery

While Shygirl was crushing performances onstage as the supporting act for Charli XCX and Troye Sivan‘s recently wrapped Sweat tour, a lot more was happening behind the scenes and on the road.

“We would get off the tour bus at every truck stop just to look at and buy every souvenir that caught our eye,” Shygirl tells Billboard. “So many key rings so little time!”

Indeed, the three artists and a sprawling crew traversed North America by bus in September and October while on the 22-date tour, which kicked off Sept. 14 in Detroit and quickly became a white hot ticket, selling out venues including Madison Square Garden and Kia Forum before concluding in Seattle on Oct. 23.

Surprise guests included Lorde, Kesha and Saweetie, the last of whom made an appearance at the Oct. 20 show in San Francisco for the debut of “Immaculate,” the recently released Saweetie/Shygirl colla. Shygirl helped create the show’s lauded club atmosphere, bringing the vibes of her own Club Shy parties to the run, along with her shimmering brand of dance music, which includes her own catalog and her turn on the “365” edit from Charli’s Brat remix album, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat.

“[This tour] doesn’t take itself too seriously — people dance like crazy,” the Sweat tour’s creative director Imogene Strauss recently told Billboard. “Turning an arena into a club was the No. 1 challenge, and when the arena was literally shaking, I was like, ‘OK, success.’”

Quincy Jones’ 20 Biggest Hit Songs on the Billboard Hot 100

Quincy Jones was a trailblazing producer, songwriter and composer – and those are just three of the many hats he donned in his seven decades in the business. Jones left his stamp on the Billboard charts with an impressive discography of his own performing work and as an integral collaborator with iconic singers such as Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson.

Jones’ peerless career began as an arranger, musician and bandleader in the 1950s, but he scored a prominent breakthrough on the Billboard Hot 100 as the producer of Lesley Gore’s Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “It’s My Party” in 1963. The next time he captured the top spot, producing Jackson’s “Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough” in 1979, it kicked off one of the most successful partnerships in music history. The hitmakers’ collaborations yielded defining blockbusters, Off the Wall, Thriller and Bad – and saw Jackson become the King of Pop, earning a combined nine Hot 100 No. 1s between the three albums, and the middle title remains one of the best-selling albums of all time.

While the Jackson-Jones tunes are most familiar to audiences, Jones achieved many more successes on the Hot 100, including helming the No. 1 smash “We Are The World” in 1985 and hits from George Benson (“Give Me the Night”), Aretha Franklin (“Angel”) and Donna Summer (“State of Independence” and “The Woman in Me”).

As the industry and music fans worldwide pause to remember the titan and his fundamental role in shaping the sound of pop music, here’s a review of the icon’s 20 biggest hits as a producer on the Hot 100.

Quincy Jones’ Biggest Billboard Hot 100 hits as a producer are based on weekly performance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart through Nov. 2, 2024. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at lower spots earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted differently to account for chart turnover rates during various periods.

ROSÉ & Bruno Mars’ ‘APT.’ Adds Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard Global Charts, Sets Record Streaming Streak

ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” rents a second week at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. A week earlier, the song debuted as each artist’s second leader on each chart.

Notably, the collaboration by BLACKPINK member ROSÉ and Mars becomes the first song since the worldwide surveys began in September 2020 to have tallied at least 200 million streams globally in multiple weeks.

Elsewhere, aespa’s “Whiplash” bounds to the top 10 of both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S.; Tyler, the Creator’s “St. Chroma,” featuring Daniel Caesar, debuts in the Global 200’s top 10; and JIN’s “I’ll Be There” arrives in the top tier on Global Excl. U.S.

The Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

“APT.,” released Oct. 18, tops the Global 200 for a second week with 207.5 million streams (down 8% week-over-week), as well as 17,000 sold (down 40%), worldwide Oct. 25-31. The song claims the sixth-biggest streaming week since the Global 200 began – and becomes the first title since the chart began to have logged at least 200 million streams globally in multiple weeks.

Below is a look at all six weeks in which songs have topped 200 million streams worldwide; one belongs to BLACKPINK and now two to the group’s ROSÉ:

  • 289.2 million, “Butter,” BTS, Global 200 dated June 5, 2021
  • 224.5 million, “APT.,” ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, Nov. 2, 2024
  • 217.1 million, “Seven,” Jung Kook feat. Latto, July 29, 2023
  • 217.1 million, “Flowers,” Miley Cyrus, Feb. 4, 2023
  • 212.1 million, “Pink Venom,” BLACKPINK, Sept. 3, 2022
  • 207.5 million, “APT.,” ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, Nov. 9, 2024

“APT.” introduces ROSÉ’s solo studio album, rosie, due Dec. 6.

Lady Gaga and Mars’ “Die With a Smile” holds at No. 2 on the Global 200, following eight weeks at No. 1, the most for any song this year. It drew 126 million streams (up 4%) worldwide Oct. 25-31 (aided by three new mixes and sale-pricing) and has tallied over 100 million streams globally in each of the last nine weeks, the most in a row since The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” also linked nine triple-digit weeks in August-October 2021.

The Global 200’s top five is stationary, rounded out by Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” at No. 3, following three weeks at No. 1 beginning in August; Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda” at its No. 4 high; and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” at No. 5, after three nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in June.

aespa’s “Whiplash” flies 30-8 on the Global 200 following its first full week of tracking (after it was released Oct. 21), led by 46.1 million streams worldwide Oct. 25-31. The South Korean pop group achieves its first top 10 on the chart.

Tyler, the Creator also collects his first Global 200 top 10, as “St. Chroma,” featuring Daniel Caesar, debuts at No. 10 with 42 million global streams. Notably, the song was released Oct. 28 and amassed its streaming sum from just four days during the tracking week. It’s from his new album, Chromakopia, which debuts at No. 1 on the U.S.-based Billboard 200. Caesar adds his second Global 200 top 10, after Justin Bieber’s “Peaches,” on which he and Giveon are featured, led for two weeks in 2021.

“APT.” concurrently rules Global Excl. U.S. for a second week, with 187 million streams (down 6%) and 12,000 sold (down 40%) outside the U.S. Oct. 25-31.

As on the Global 200, “Die With a Smile” ranks at No. 2 on Global Excl. U.S. following eight weeks at No. 1.

Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” keeps at No. 3 on Global Excl. U.S., after three weeks at No. 1 beginning in August, and Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda” rises 5-4 for a new high.

aespa’s “Whiplash” vaults 18-5 on Global Excl. U.S. with 43.3 million streams outside the U.S. The act earns its first top five hit on the chart and its second top 10, after “Supernova” hit No. 6 in June.

Plus, JIN’s “I’ll Be There” launches at No. 10 on Global Excl. U.S. with 34.9 million streams and 28,000 sold outside the U.S. from its Oct. 25 release through Oct. 31. The BTS member posts his second solo top 10, after “The Astronaut” rocketed to No. 6 in 2022.

Below is a recap, with songs ranked by peak position, of BTS members’ 18 Global Excl. U.S. top 10s outside the group; Jung Kook boasts seven solo top 10s, including three No. 1s; Jimin has tallied five top 10s, including one leader; V has earned four top 10s; and JIN has now logged two. Billie Eilish Pauses Her Atlanta Concert to Urge Fans to Vote for Kamala Harris: ‘A Lot Is at Stake’

With the election polls essentially locked in a tie between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump, pop superstar Billie Eilish is doing what she can to move the needle.

During her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour Stop in Atlanta on Saturday (Nov. 2), the “Birds of Feather” singer paused her show in order to talk to her fans. In a TikTok posted by the Democratic Party’s official account, Eilish can be seen standing on stage at State Farm Arena urging her fans to vote for Harris in Tuesday’s election (Nov. 5).

“Times are really scary and a lot is at stake and I know that if you’re in this room and you support me, you support women,” Eilish said to a screaming crowd. “I hope that you will vote for Kamala Harris.”

This is not the first time Eilish has spoken about her support for the vice president. On National Voter Registration Day back in September, the “Bad Guy” singer and her brother, Finneas, made a video speaking directly to their fans about why they were supporting Harris and Tim Walz’s bid for the White House. “We are voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, because they are fighting to protect our reproductive freedom, our planet and our democracy,” Eilish said. “Vote like your life depends on it, because it does.”

Eilish’s plea to voters came in a strategic location — Georgia is one of the seven key swing states that Harris and Trump are both looking to lock down in Tuesday’s bout. According to polling averages from The New York Times, Trump currently leads the state by a single percentage point. But the Times’ political analyst Nate Cohn writes that polling averages in this particular election should be taken with a grain of salt: “In the history of modern polling, there’s never been a race where the final polls showed such a close contest,” he writes.

Billboard Artist Series Launches With Spellbinding New Photos of NewJeans

In October, NewJeans starred in the first edition of Billboard Artist, a new series of collectible art books produced by Billboard Korea. The inaugural edition tells the girl group’s story through a visual lens, showcasing the members’ style and fashion while incorporating interview highlights as well. NewJeans was honored as Group of the Year at Billboard’s 2024 Women in Music awards show.

Billboard Korea launched in August with a star-studded event in Seoul — the K-Power 100 — bringing together the leaders of all of South Korea’s major music companies and featuring performances by some of the region’s most exciting talent. Billboard Artist, an initiative led by Billboard Korea creative director Woo Lee, is available for purchase on Weverse and through various other retailers.

Below, Lee explains all about the new print series.

What is Billboard Artist?

Billboard Artist is a large-format, unbound visual art book designed for people to enjoy each page like a poster. This unique book showcases the inspiration and impact of musicians through photography, art, essays, and illustrations. Unlike traditional magazines, which have a limited life, Billboard Artist is a timeless collectible, featuring content in English and Korean. It is also available in select bookstores worldwide.

Why did you launch Billboard Artist

In a pre-smartphone era, magazine titles like Hero, Muse, and Icon portrayed stars as distant, untouchable figures. The world once craved stars who exuded perfection and mystique — think of David Bowie or Prince. But now, stars openly share details of their everyday lives — who they travel with, what books they read, the ideologies they hold — making them more relatable to the public. Musicians express their creativity across multiple realms beyond music, including fashion, visual arts, documentaries, and acting. Their multifaceted creativity serves as a major source of inspiration for all of us. We wanted to capture this in a tangible art book that showcases their diverse artistry and impact.

Describe the way you work with artists to create these books.

We choose an act and use their sound, history, personality and aesthetic as a source of inspiration, while also drawing from social issues, history, politics, humanities, science or mythology of significance to the artists. This might result in a fashion collaboration, an essay or poetry collaboration with a writer, a visual art collaboration with a digital artist, a beauty portrait with beauty and scent, or a short film produced with a videographer. All of this is developed freely and flexibly in conversations with the featured artists — their participation and creativity is key to the process.

Will Billboard Artist exclusively feature K-pop musicians because it’s produced by Billboard Korea?

No. Billboard Artist does not limit its scope by nationality, language, or territory. Billboard’s 130-year legacy of credibility and influence has always transcended borders. But there’s a reason why this project began with Billboard Korea. The Korean music industry prizes powerful storytelling, visual impact and fan engagement, and has a symbiotic relationship with the fashion and beauty sectors. That unique Korean perspective informs our vision.

Why was NewJeans chosen for the first edition?

The first question for us is always: “Who is the most talked-about musician right now?” We wanted to feature an artist who resonates in the present while evoking the past and inspiring thoughts of the future. NewJeans was the perfect choice because their music, fashion, and aesthetics blend ’80s nostalgia with a modern, forward-looking appeal. This 56-page art book captures the group’s charm, fusing elements of 1980s Italian youth culture, traditional Korean hanok houses, and the symbolism of birds in contemporary art into a poetic visual narrative.

How often will new editions of Billboard Artist be released?

Unlike a magazine, Billboard Artist doesn’t follow a fixed release schedule. When an artist is selected, there could be two editions in a month or just one in two months. For this year, a single edition will be released as a year-end treat, with more editions planned for 2025.

Where can people currently purchase the NewJeans edition?

Online pre-orders have closed, and we’re now in the second print run. Starting in mid-November, it will also be available at select bookstores. Updates will be posted on Billboard Korea’s Instagram.

A version of this story appears in the Oct. 26, 2024, issue of Billboard.
