Another Met Gala has gone down in the history books! Musicians and celebrities alike descended upon New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art on Monday (May 1) for the institution’s annual fundraising event, which also doubles as one of fashion’s biggest nights.

As always, the Met Gala follows a different theme each year, with 2023’s being “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty” to honor the late designer who passed away in 2019; the theme followed in the footsteps of previous designer tributes, much like 2017’s “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between” and 2011’s “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty.”

With the event honoring Lagerfeld’s legacy in the fashion world, musicians in attendance could pull inspiration or from Lagerfeld’s designs for Balmain, Patou, Chloé, Fendi, Chanel and his eponymous brand, which resulted in the events attendees either dressing like the icon — see: Cardi B, Pusha T and Conan Gray — or going the more daring route by dressing like Lagerfeld’s famous feline Choupette

Doja Cat was the talk of the town, as she elegantly arrived in a backless hand-beaded white gown by Oscar de la Renta a fitted hood punctuated by glittering cat ears and forehead jewels. In a clear homage to Choupette, Doja accessorized the look with facial prosthetics to make her look even more catlike.

Bad Bunny made a splash in the menswear department by showing up in a fitted, cream colored suits decorated with fabric rosettes. The look was business in the front, and a party in the back, as his suit jacket was backless.

Every month, Billboard asks our readers to vote for the best Latin collaboration released throughout the month and featured on our weekly New Music Latin playlist.

Many unique and interesting collabs dropped this month, including Feid and Sean Paul’s romantic reggaeton fused with sultry dancehall “Niña Bonita,” Cazzu and Youn Miko’s sensual trap song “Brinca,” and Marshmello and Farruko’s motivational EDM “Esta Vida.”

April was also strong for Regional Mexican artists. Peso Pluma, for example, teamed up with Colombian rapper Blessd in “Las Morras,” a raw and blunt acoustic-led corrido, essentially about being on top of the world; and Grupo Frontera surprised fans with their Bad Bunny-assisted “un x100to,” a catchy norteño track about heartbreak and regret.

Artists such as Eladio Carrión and Anuel AA; Boza and Dalex; and Alex Anwandter and Buscabulla, also released collaborations in April, to name a few.

Which one is the best? Vote in our fan poll below!

The 2022 winning collabs were Christina Aguilera and Ozuna’s “Santo” (January); Becky G and Karol G’s “MAMIII” (February); Sebastian Yatra and John Legend’s “Tacones Rojos (Remix)” (March); Bizarrap and Paulo Londra’s “BZRP Music Session” (April); Morar and Duki’s “Paris” (May); Blessd and Rels B’s “Energia” (June); Pablo Alboran and Sebastian Yatra’s “Contigo” (July); Anonimus and R3ymon’s “Santa Diabla” (August); Kany García and Christian Nodal’s “La Siguiente” (September); Juan Gabriel and Anahí’s “Déjame Vivir” (October); Nicki Minaj, Maluma and Myriam Fares’ “Tukoh Taka” (November); and Alejo and CNCO’s “Estrella” (December).

Once considered unorthodox, collaborations between regional Mexican music and urban artists are now considered part of the norm.

Over the past few years, the industry has witnessed unprecedented team-ups, including Bad Bunny‘s first major splash into this world alongside then-emerging corridos tumbados act Natanael Cano. In 2019, the pair released a remix to Cano’s “Soy El Diablo.”

Four years later, Bunny is back at it again, this time partnering with another newcomer, Grupo Frontera. Earlier this month, the Puerto Rican superstar and Frontera released the norteño-tinged cumbia “un x100to.”

Peso Pluma, Mexican music’s latest hitmaker, has delivered star-studded collaborations with non-regional Mexican artists, including Nicki Nicole, Ovy on the Drums and Blessd. Both Ovy and Blessd joined Peso to sing his signature corridos bélicos.

Meanwhile, in March, Nicky Jam and Luis R. Conriquez delivered “Como El Viento,” a melodious corrido with hints of trap. “I’ve always respected regional Mexican music,” Jam previously told Billboard Español. “It’s not from my culture — in Puerto Rico, you hear more salsa, merengue and Caribbean music, but I lived 10 years in Colombia, and over there you listen to it a lot. So they showed me this song and I thought it was the perfect one for me.”

Other collaborations between regional Mexican artists and urban acts featured on our list include Grupo Firme and Maluma’s “Cada Quien,” Ivan Cornejo and Jhayco’s “Está Dañada (Remix),” and Banda MS, Snoop Dogg and Becky G’s “Qué Maldición.”

Collaborations and potential summer smashes are afoot this new music Friday, with SZA and Doja Cat teaming up for a song, and Post Malone releasing a new track that’s primed for pop radio.

As if SZA’s “Kill Bill” wasn’t already a chart smash — the track is currently sitting at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it has spent a 17 weeks — the R&B singer’s past collaborator Doja Cat has hopped onto the song to give it another breath of fresh air. Doja, who has hinted at wanting to make a hip-hop album, opens up the track with a scintillating verse that details a run-in with her ex and his new girlfriend that turned violent, a perfect complement to SZA’s airy chorus in which she fantasizes about killing her own ex (and then actually doing it).

Post Malone’s “Circles” gives a glimpse at just how pop the rapper could go, but “Chemical” firmly proves that his pop hitmaking skills won’t end at his 2019 smash. Malone sings in his upper register for the track and laments the end of a relationship, but don’t let the song’s lyrical content content fool you — the driving beat and sunny guitar strums gives it a firm place on pop radio this coming summer.

Metallica‘s 72 Seasons arrives six and a half years after 2016’s Hardwired… to Self-Destruct, but the set is more than worth the wait. Kirk Hammett’s guitar skills are tight as ever, particularly on tracks “Lux Æterna” and “Shadows Follow,” while James Hetfield’s vocals rip through 77 minutes worth of tracks like it’s nothing, showing he hasn’t missed a step across a four-decade career.

There are also new tunes from Ice Spice with Nicki Minaj, as well music from Kelly Clarkson, Dominic Fike and Marshmello (with Farruko). Which new release this week is your favorite? Vote in our poll below.

Rap fans are in luck for the first new music Friday of April, as genre heavyweights Drake and YoungBoy Never Broke Again, as well as BTS rapper Suga, have all released new tracks this week.

While Drizzy’s new track, “Search & Rescue,” may cause fans to wonder if he’s taking a shot Kanye West — the song features a sample of Kim Kardashian talking about her relationship with the Yeezy founder, who now goes by Ye — the initial hype hides a deeper meaning. The vulnerable track, produced by Sad Pony and BYNX, sees Drake wanting an assist from his closest friends to take him out of his usual haunts (the club, the trap) so he can finally find an uncomplicated love to make him feel complete.

Suga — who is now releasing music under his other stage name, Agust D — is the latest BTS member to release solo material, providing a follow-up to one of the strongest tracks in his catalogue with “People Pt. 2.” Complete with hip-hop, R&B and hooks worthy of a top 40, Suga shares his reflections on connection and loss with stunning clarity and support from fellow K-pop star IU.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again continues to deliver puns and rhymes in his signature vocal style, as heard on his album I Rest My Case from earlier this year, in new track “WTF” featuring Nicki Minaj. While YoungBoy dominates the top half of the song, Minaj goes in for the guttural on the latter half, warning listeners if they “Cross YoungBoy, then you cross the Queen,” before finishing off her verse with a vocal run.

Jonas Brothers, NF and Labrinth also return this week with new music. Which release is your favorite? Vote in our poll below.
