Luis Fonsi is currently on a promo tour in Argentina, where he’s also celebrating his 46th birthday Monday (April 15).
“I LOVE Argentina,” he expressed on Instagram on the eve of his special day, along with a set of photos with his fans and industry friends. He’s also spending the day reposting birthday wishes he’s receiving on social media from artists such as Laura Pausini, and his wife, Águeda López, to name a few.

Fonsi’s first No. 1 title arrived in 2000 with the romantic tune “Imaginame Sin Ti,” which topped the chart for two weeks. In 2008, he unleashed “No Me Doy Por Vencido” — a passionate ballad about resilience and not giving up — which spent 19 weeks at No. 1.

His biggest No. 1 hit to date, however, arrived in 2017 with “Despacito,” in which he delivered a more urban and rhythmic approach in collaboration with Daddy Yankee.
“It was just another song in Spanish,” he told Billboard in 2020. “I’ve been doing this for 21 years. It’s just, I’m putting out an album, let me do a new song. This idea pops to my head, then Daddy Yankee jumps on it, it starts to sound really cool. We release it, it becomes a huge hit.”
The “Despacito” remix featuring Justin Bieber spent 56 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs, and also skyrocketed the track to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
“He opened up a lot of doors for us,” Fonsi noted. “I’m really grateful that things just happened in such a beautiful way and all the stars aligned … The whole world was dancing and singing in Spanish, I’m proud of that.”

This week, Billboard‘s New Music Latin roundup and playlist — curated by Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors — feature fresh new releases from artists such as Camilo, Los Ángeles Azules in collaboration with Alejandro Fernández, Angélica Garcia and more.
After days of teasing, “PLIS,” a new collab with his wife Evaluna, Camilo not only released that track, but two more. “PLIS” “Gordo” and “No Se Vale” make up the Colombian singer-songwriter’s new EP, titled Un. The three-song set highlights the elegance of live instruments such as a saxophone, trumpets, trombones, conga, and güira with charming musical arrangements, writes Billboard Español‘s Luisa Calle.
“17 musicians got together to play at El Taller Creativo. When we counted ‘one, two, three, four’ we all did one thing. That ‘un’ (‘one’) that broke the silence aligned all the hearts that were there, recording music and video simultaneously, in the same take,” Camilo offered about the way the EP was recorded.
Separately, Camilo Lara’s Mexican Institute of Sound commemorates its 20-year anniversary with Algo-Ritmo: Mexican Institute of Sound Hits 2004-2024, a compilation that encapsulates Lara’s illustrious career. The collection features 24 songs, including new collaborations with Ceci Bastida, Esteman and Foudeqush.
The list of new releases includes two cumbias: “La Cumbia Triste” by Los Ángeles Azules with Alejandro Fernández — marking the first collab between the two acts — and Angélica Garcia’s “Juanita.” For Garcia, her cumbia track is about intentionality. “Many cumbias have lyrics about pain and longing … My intention was for the tension and confusion in the song to feel like remembering a past life. I wanted to capture what the shadow side of grief does to us,” she expressed in a statement.

While there are a glaring lack of songs solely about Thanksgiving — with the exception of Adam Sandler’s cult-classic track “The Thanksgiving Song” — there are more than enough tunes in pop culture about being thankful for friends, family, successes and more. To get into the thankful spirit, Billboard compiled the 20 best songs about […]
The first new music Friday of November sees a K-pop star stepping firmly into the spotlight, one of the biggest rock bands of all time using tech to make something old new again, and a recent Billboard chart-topper lending her chops to a blockbuster movie series, with new releases from Jung Kook, The Beatles and […]
The boys are back in town this week — literally, as this week’s new music Friday sees new album releases from the original Blink-182 lineup and The Rolling Stones, the latter of which marks the band’s first new music in nearly two decades.
Following a series of serious personal issues — namely Mark Hoppus’ 2021 cancer diagnosis, which he later overcame — Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge didn’t want to waste any more time separated and playing music without each other. The result is the group’s newest effort, One More Time…, which sees the trio taking a much needed look into their past and reflecting on how much they actually care about each other, now that they are mature enough to realize it. The sentimental moments on the record are cut between songs like early single, “Edging,” the album opener, “Anthem Part 3” and “Dance With Me,” showing that they still have the capability to make lightning strike in the same place twice.
The Rolling Stones’ last album, A Bigger Bang, arrived in 2005, making a total of 18 years since they’ve released new material. Hackney Diamonds doesn’t disappoint, and sees Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood serving up rock steady grooves and collaborative delights (see guest appearances from fellow veterans Paul McCartney and Elton John, as well as Lady Gaga) — a solid effort from the revered musicians, particularly in light of the loss of their fallen bandmates, Charlie Watts.
This Friday’s music offerings isn’t just for the boys, either. Charli XCX and Sam Smith have finally collaborated on a track together, months after teasing a team up for Charli’s high octane video for “Speed Drive.” The pair’s collaborative effort, “In the City,” sees the star delivering another upbeat party anthem, with Smith chiming in for an assist on the second verse, speaking of feeling protected by a guardian angel.
The Kid LAROI, Jung Kook and Central Cee teamed up for “Too Much,” 21 Savage enlisted d4vd for “Call Me Revenge,” and Anitta is back with “Mil Veces,” but which release is your favorite? Vote in our poll below.
This week’s new music Friday features high-profile releases across rap, K-pop and country, with Drake, NewJeans and a collaboration between Noah Kahan and Kacey Musgraves among the drops. Drake newest album effort, For All the Dogs, shows a return to form for the rapper, who enlists a series of star-studded collaborations to get the fans […]
With the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards set to take place this Thursday (Oct. 5), fans are about to find out who won in each of the ceremony’s 48 categories, including Artist of the Year, New.
Five artists — Bizarrap, Chino Pacas, Grupo Frontera, Peso Pluma and Yng Lvcas — are currently competing in the sought-after category. Along with joining their fellow newcomers in the Artist of the Year, New category, both Grupo Frontera and Peso Pluma are finalists vying for the coveted Artist of the Year award.
Four out of the five acts are Mexican or of Mexican descent, a testament of the ever-expanding Mexican movement that has blossomed throughout 2023. Pacas, Frontera and Pluma are representing regional Mexican music with their corridos bélicos and Tex-Mex cumbia, respectively, while Lvcas is championing a new kind of persuasive “Mexican reggaetón.” On the other hand, Argentine alchemist Bizarrap has showcased his genre-spanning production wizardry that has broken the internet numerous times. Last year, sierreño star Ivan Cornejo took the coveted award.
Pluma leads all finalists this year, with 21 nods across 15 categories. Frontera aren’t far behind, with a total of 15 nods. Yng Lvcas and Bizarrap hold six entries each, while Chino Pacas has only one in the new artist category.
Finalists and eventual winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay and touring, tracked by Billboard and Luminate. This year’s awards are based on the chart period of Aug. 13, 2022, through Aug. 12, 2023. The ceremony will broadcast live on Telemundo from the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla., at 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 5. It will also broadcast simultaneously on Universo, Peacock, the Telemundo App, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.
