PlayStation / Sony / PS5 Pro
While the stench of price hikes still lingers thanks to Donald Trump’s rampant abuse of tariffs, Sony felt it was only right to bless gamers with some much-needed discounts on its PS5 consoles, and yes, the PS5 Pro is included.
Word on the video game streets is that the PS5 will eventually get a price hike, but as of now, it’s getting a price cut.
Yup, you read that right.
Right now and through June 11, if you have been on the fence regarding copping a PS5 console, now is a better time than ever to make that purchase.
Select PS5 bundles, including the PS5 Pro, PlayStation VR 2 headset, and other hardware, are on sale as part of PlayStation’s Days of Play sale event.
With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, coming in at $449.99, you can cop a Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 PS5 Bundle for $50 less at $399.99 from Sony or Walmart.
The PS5 Pro Gets A Surprise Price Cut
What about if you were one of those gamers reluctant to buy the PS5 Pro because of the price? You can now purchase one of the most powerful video game consoles on the market for $649.99, which is $50 less than its original asking price, offering a great opportunity to snag the console.
The PS5 Pro is currently the more powerful option than the current PS5 model, boasting a larger GPU, more storage, and the ability to utilize Sony’s own PSSR AI upscaling technology.
But don’t get it twisted, the base PS5 model is no slouch, we all saw that latest Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer that made sure to let us know that all footage from the game shown was it running on a PS5 console, confirming even without the Pro designation it can still handle what will easily be one of the most graphically demanding titles of this console generation.
Those aren’t the only deals, you can head here to scoop up a PlayStation VR 2 headset or bundle, PS5 DualSense Edge controller, standard DualSense Edge, PlayStation Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, plus tons of games at a discounted price as well.

Sony announced its financial forecast for the next year, and the company expects Donald Trump’s tariffs to impact its bottom line greatly.
Spotted on The Verge, Sony expects Trump’s stupid tariffs to impact its financial forecast by 100 billion yen (about $680 million). Sony is weighing different options to counter the tariffs, including moving manufacturing to the United States, which could raise the price of PS5 consoles.
Sony CFO Lin Tao confirmed during a company earnings call that the company is considering “passing on” the price of tariffs to counteract the tariffs. Tao did not mention the PlayStation 5 by name during the call, signaling that the company could look to raise prices elsewhere to avoid raising the price of the PS5 console.
The PlayStation 5 has already seen price increases outside of the United States in Australia, the UK, New Zealand, and Europe.
While Tao didn’t mention the console, CEO Hiroki Totoki did when discussing possibly moving PS5 production to the US to minimize the effect of Donald Trump’s tariffs.
Totokoi said the PS5 console could be manufactured “can be produced locally,” say it could be “an efficient strategy,” that “has to be considered going forward.”
Sony Still Has To Worry About The 30 Percent Tariff On China
Sony still makes the PS5 in China, and even after the 90-day pause, the 30 percent tariff, which is a significant reduction from the 145 percent, is still above the 10 percent on imports into the United States from China.
If Sony does decide to raise its prices, it won’t be the first company to do so. Microsoft recently raised the price of its Xbox consoles by $100, while Nintendo has kept the price of the Switch 2 the same, opting to raise the prices of accessories instead.
We may learn soon enough if Sony does raise the price of the PS5. Until then, you can see reactions to this unfortunate news that we can all blame on Donald Trump.

Donald Trump’s stupid trade war and his blatant abuse of tariffs continue, showing no clear indication this madness will end.
Orange Mussolini said aht aht aht after numerous reports claiming he was gonna exempt smartphones, PCs, and chips from his sweeping tariffs.
Spotted on Eurogamer, Donald Trump has backtracked on those exemptions, saying “no one is getting off the hook” and “there was no Tariff ‘exception” on his Truth social account. This kills all hope of anyone avoiding the absurd 145 percent tariff he slapped on China.
There is also a separate tariff specifically for semiconductors coming as well.
Per Eurogamer:
Chinese electrical goods would simply now be placed in “a different tariff bucket”, Trump continued, concluding that National Security Tarriff Investigations would be reviewing “the WHOLE ELECTRONICS SUPPLY CHAIN”.
US commerce secretary Howard Lutnick has told ABC News that a separate “semiconductor tariff” was now planned – exact details of which are yet to be determined.
“We need to have semiconductors, we need to have chips, and we need to have flat panels, we need to have these things made in America,” Lutnick said. “We can’t be reliant on Southeast Asia for all of the things that operate for us.”
Speaking to CBS News, US trade representative Jamieson Greer confirmed this semiconductor tariff meant Chinese electrical goods had therefore been given something that was “not really an exception. That’s not even the right word for it.”
“It’s not that they won’t be subject to tariffs geared at reshoring,” Greer continued. “They’ll just be under a different regime. It’s shifting from one bucket of tariffs to a different bucket of potential tariffs.”
There is no clear plan for anything this Trump administration does; there is no exact date on when the Trump administration will introduce the semiconductor tariff or how much it will be.
The Gaming Industry Has Begun Prepping For Trump’s Tariffs
The video game world has been prepping and making moves ahead and after Trump’s “Liberation Day.”
Nintendo has already delayed Nintendo Switch 2 preorders in the US indefinitely, begun stockpiling the console in the country, and shifted most of its non-Chinese output there.
Nintendo is not alone. Sony just recently announced it was raising the price of the PlayStation 5’s digital edition in the UK, mainland Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
The company said the “tough decision” was a result of “the backdrop of a challenging economic environment, including high inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.”
This nightmare has no end in sight.

Gamers are taking immediate action, anticipating that Donald Trump and his stupid tariffs will make buying a PS5 Pro or PS5 console more expensive.
Spotted on PlayStation Lifestyle, some gamers purchasing PS5 Pro and PS5 consoles in a panic to get ahead of looming price hikes as a direct result of Donald Trump’s ridiculous sweeping tariffs on every country.
The website says gamers have been scooping up the recently released Astro Bot PS5 Bundle and sharing receipts for PS5 Pro and standard PS5 console purchases on web forums.
Gamers’ actions might be premature, as Sony has taken measures to combat Trump’s tariffs and avoid raising prices for now.
Per PlayStation Lifestyle:
Over the weekend, we spotted numerous posts across gaming forums and social media, where players shared screenshots of their order screens while encouraging others to purchase a PS5 and/or PS5 Pro and accompanying accessories before prices skyrocket. However, it might be a little too soon to panic.
As pointed out by renowned industry analyst Daniel Ahmad, the idea of Trump tariffs was being floated for quite a while before it was implemented, and Sony would have taken measures like “duplicating supply chains and stockpiling PS5s” in the U.S. “The strategic stockpiling of PS5 units in the U.S. will provide Sony with a temporary buffer against the impact of tariffs,” he added.
Only A Temporary Solution
Sony’s countermeasures to Trump’s tariffs are only a temporary solution because all of the company’s manufacturing locations are feeling the tariffs’ sting. It’s only a matter of time before the company will feel their effect.
Trump’s tariffs have already negatively impacted the video game industry. Nintendo has already paused Nintendo Switch 2 US preorders in an unprecedented move.
Sighs.
It hasn’t been 100 days, and Trump is already putting on a masterclass of ruining our lives in so many ways.

Source: Kojima Productions / Death Stranding 2: On The Beach
Legendary video game designer Hideo Kojima has been teasing us that he was in the lab working on something, we had no idea it was an epic trailer for his next magnum opus, Death Stranding 2: On The Beach.
Kojima dropped the trailer for DS2 during a panel at SXSW 2025 in Austin, TX while also giving us the one bit of information we have been waiting to hear for a long time, the game’s release date.
Mark your calendars, PlayStation 5 owners. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach will be released exclusively on the console on June 26, 2025. Those who get their hands on the Digital Deluxe Edition or the Collector’s Edition get early access to the game beginning June 24.
The 10-minute trailer gives fans a D E E P look at the upcoming game thanks to the numerous cinematics and gameplay clips, including a character and some other elements that give off Metal Gear Solid vibes.
Solid Snake’s Influence Appears In Death Stranding 2
The character in question, pictured above, is Neil, played by Italian actor Luca Marinelli. In one scene featured in what can be considered one of the greatest video game trailers ever, Neil can be seen putting on a bandana like Solid Snake does in the Metal Gear franchise before leading a group of interesting and creepy-looking soldiers.
Marienelli’s resemblance to the goat Snake and his appearance in DS2 shouldn’t shock anyone who follows Kojima. The video game designer and cinephile praised the actor in a 2020 Instagram post noting that if the actor wore a bandana he would be the “spitting image” of Solid Snake.
Eagle-eyed gamers also noticed another possible call back to MGS with the introduction of Magellan Man. This giant tar-like creature fuses with the DHV Magellan and resembles the bi-pedal tank from Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Rex.
In the trailer Magellan Man is piloted like the mechs in the Pacific Rim films and is used to take on other creepy giant tar-like creatures.
The game’s plot continues from 2019’s Death Stranding, in which 19 million players took on the mission to connect the United States following the cataclysmic event that rocked the country.
The synopsis for the game reads:
Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam — with companions by his side — sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.
The standard edition of Death Stranding 2 will cost $69.99. The Collector’s Edition is a hefty $229.99, and the Digital Deluxe Edition is $79.99. Pre-orders begin on March 17.
We can’t wait to pick up the sticks for this one. Until then, you can see more reactions to Death Stranding 2: On The Beach’s new trailer below.

If you’re still looking to join the PlayStation 5 hype train but are on a budget, don’t worry—Sony has you covered.
For gamers across the pond, PlayStation Direct is now allowing you to lease a PlayStation 5 console and other accessories for a monthly fee.
You can now lease a PS5 Pro for £26.99 a month if you select a 12-month term. Other leasing options for the relatively recently released upgraded PS5 console are a 24-month lease at £20.99 a month or a 36-month lease at £18.95 a month.
The contracts are fixed-term, but you can take advantage of a monthly rolling option, which costs £35.59 and can be cancelled anytime.
If you want a PS5 Slim, you must pay £11.99 monthly for a 36-month lease. The total cost is £431.64, slightly below the asking price of £479.99 for the console.
Keep in mind that you will not be able to keep the console at the end of your contract’s term and will have to return the unit, continue paying the rental fee, or, if you really want the console, speak with them directly about purchasing it.
You Can Also Rent These PlayStation Accessories
Consoles are not the only things you can lease. You can also rent a PS Portal for just £6.49, allowing you to test the device before you pay for it. Did you want to try the expensive DualSense Edge controller? You can lease one of those too for. £7.49 a month.
Of course there are some stipulations. All rentals will be made through a third-party tech rental service, Raylo, and will require a soft credit check, so your credit must be up to par to take advantage of the leasing deals.
No word if this program will ever reach the United States, but for those in the UK, this sounds like a sweet deal.
This latest news comes on the heels of Sony dropping the price of the PSVR 2.

According to recent sales numbers, Sony isn’t having a problem moving PlayStation 5 consoles.
During its earnings release, Sony announced that it had its best holiday season yet with PlayStation 5 sales, moving 9.5 million consoles over the last three months (2024 Q3), selling 1.3 million more than it sold in the same quarter the previous year, raising all-time PS5 sales to 74.9 million.
The latest addition to the PS5 console family, the PS5 Pro, could have helped boost those numbers. Sony did not provide sales numbers for that console.
With that record quarter in the books, the PS5 is 1.5 million units behind the PS4 during its sales lifecycle. Sony also posted a profit of 469.3 billion yen ($3.05 billion), which was higher than expected.
Game sales were also up, reaching 95.9 million units sold in Q3 2024 compared to 89.7 million in the previous quarter despite a decline in first-party sales.
Sony’s game software revenue rose to 784 billion yen ($5.1 billion) in Q3 2023, compared to 733 billion yen in Q3 2023.
The company also acknowledged the success of Astro Bot, which took the video game award season by storm, and Helldivers 2, noting it intends to expand its live service offerings despite canceling several projects and Concord flopping before it even hit shelves.
Sony is very optimistic about the future. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Ghost of Yotei, and allegedly Grand Theft Auto 6 will all come in 2025, which could help more consoles fly off shelves.
While Sony reports console sales, it hasn’t been the same for Xbox. Although Xbox’s hardware sales have taken a hit and are down 29% since switching the company model, Game Pass has experienced record growth.
All products and services featured are independently chosen by editors. However, Billboard may receive a commission on orders placed through its retail links, and the retailer may receive certain auditable data for accounting purposes.
