Cam’ron celebrated Independence Day his own way. The rapper wore O.J. Simpson’s NFL football uniform with pride.

As reported by HipHopDX, the Harlem, New York, native isn’t using the holiday to pay his respects to Amerikkka. On Thursday, July 4, he found himself in Las Vegas for a private party. In signature fashion he threw all cares out the window and wore Orenthal James Simpson’s iconic look to the event. The outfit included O.J.’s Buffalo Bills jersey, pants and even the original helmet two-bar face mask. To further make the cipher complete he carried a football in one hand and wore the Nike Air Jordan Cherry 11 retro sneakers on feet.

“OJ was here!!!! Happy INDEPENDENCE DAY! This ain’t really Our holiday.. But it feels good not to have to answer to nobody!! #FreeNigga #IIWII,” the caption read. While the post seemed to just highlight Cam’ron’s cosplay range some of his followers assume it was a shot at Stephen A. Smith who recently called out BET for celebrating O.J. Simpson during the 2024 BET Awards.

“Did y’all see the in memoriam segment paying tribute to quote, ‘Black excellence,’ that we unfortunately lost this year?” he said on the opening segment of his self-titled show. “There was a notable silence from the crowd when the image of O.J. Simpson appeared on the big screen. You may recall O.J. Simpson died this past April after a battle with cancer. Yes, he is known for being a Hall of Famer on the football field out of USC, and ultimately with the Buffalo Bills in his NFL career, but he was also accused of double murder!”

Smith also called out that the late great didn’t side with people of color once he became successful but also reminding us of his infamous “I’m not Black, I’m O.J.,” quote. Simpson was a frequent guest on Cam’ron’s sports talk show It Is What It Is. You can see Cam’ron’s outfit below.

On Thursday (April 11), news broke that O.J. Simpson passed away from cancer at the age of 76 on April 10. While many were happy to learn that the Juice was going to be put in a box, Cam’ron and Mase paid homage to the controversial figure who was a regular on their hit show, It Is What It Is.

Posting a video tribute on their IG page which featured O.J. Simpson on their show, a caption was included, which broke down how honored the crew felt to have had him be a part of their podcast.

“1st OF ALL WE WANT TO SEND OUR HEART FELT CONDOLENCES OUT TO THE FAMILY OF #OJSIMPSON 2nd OF ALL WE JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU ‘UNCLE O’ FOR GRACING US WITH YOUR PRESENCE, YOU WERE DEFINITELY ONE OF A KIND, YOU BECAME ‘UNCLE O’ TO US CAUSE IT WAS LIKE HAVING A REAL UNCLE AROUND, YOU WERE FUNNY & VERY DOWN TO EARTH… ” the post began. “WHEN WE SIGNED OUR DEAL THE FIRST CO-HOST WE THOUGHT ABOUT HAVING WAS ‘UNCLE O’ WE SAID OH WE GONE BREAK THE INTERNET WITH #OJ & THAT WE DID, YOU HELPED MAKE OUR SHOW 10x’s BETTER & EVERYONE LOVED YOU… WE WILL CHERISH THESE LAST MEMORIES WE WERE ABLE TO SHARE WITH YOU… YOU WILL FOREVER BE APART OF THE #ITISWHATITISTALK FAMILY 🕊️ WE LOVE YOU ‘UNCLE O’…. #LLTHEJUICE🖤”
We’re not gonna lie, having O.J Simpson on that show was pretty wild but very entertaining given the circumstances of his past.
While many were bothered by the fact that Simpson would get another chance at stardom on any platform, the man did show he would’ve been a great sports talk show personality with his insight and takes on football players and games. But again, the man is known for allegedly murdering his ex-wife and her friend and surprisingly getting away with it in a court of law. So yeah.

Cam’ron and MA$E are proving yet again there are levels to their hit show. O.J. Simpson is the latest guest on It Is What It Is.

As spotted on HipHopDX the popular sports series has extended an invite to the former football great. Joining virtually The Juice spoke to the the two rappers for almost 20 minutes about a variety of topics relating to the NFL. As expected he showed immediate support towards the running backs and made it clear the players in that position should be afforded different consideration given their impact and contribution.

“Eliminate the franchise tag for the running backs,” he said. “You can’t make them subject to the franchise tag. We have the Constitution, the greatest piece of legislation ever written, but we have amendments” he added. “They [the NFL] got to do something to rectify this inequity.” When asked about some of his favorite running backs playing currently he mentioned a select few including Saquon Barkley, Nick Chubb, Derrick Henry, Dalvin Cook and Christian McCaffrey.

He went on to put added respect on Saquon’s name saying “I often tell people… you put us in the same situation, the only guys I’d be competing with are Barry Sanders, Gale Sayers and maybe Eric Dickerson,” O.J. Simpson said. “I would certainly throw Barkley into that argument.”
You can watch Cam’ron, MA$E and O.J. Simpson chop it up; no pun intended below.
