When Kendrick Lamar surprise-dropped his GNX album, an immediate standout from the project was “Squabble Up.”

The song topped the Billboard Hot 100, at the same time as GNX debuting atop the Billboard 200 albums chart. The track became Lamar’s fifth Hot 100 No. 1 out of six total, and his third of 2024 – the most among all artists of the year. He previously led in 2024 with “Not Like Us,” for two weeks beginning in May, and “Like That,” with Future and Metro Boomin, for three weeks in April.

Rubby Pérez Earns Posthumous Nod on Billboard Charts With Greatest Hits Album

The late Dominican Rubby Pérez singer-songwriter returns to the Billboard charts as his 2021 album, Rubby Pérez ¡Grandes Éxitos! debuts at No. 7 on the Tropical Albums chart (dated April 19). The 30-song set launches with 2,000 units equivalent album units earned in the U.S. during the April 4-10 tracking week, according to Luminate. Pérez died on April 8 in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, after the roof of the Jet Set nightclub collapsed during one of his performances. He was 69.

It’s the merengue artist’s first appearance on any Billboard albums chart in over three decades. He was last on an albums chart when his self-titled set peaked at No. 15 on the Top Tropical Albums chart in 1987.

“It’s been 25 years, a lifetime together, filled with beautiful memories,” Enrique Paulino, Pérez’s international manager tells Billboard. “The most important thing for me was his humility and his outpouring of affection for his audiences.”

Out of Rubby Pérez ¡Grandes Éxitos! album’s unit sum earned in the week ending April 10,1,000 units were attributed to streaming activity. That translates to 1.6 million official on-demand streams for the set’s songs; a resurgence that comes two days after Pérez’s passing. The remaining negligible amount come from traditional album sales and track-equivalent units.

“Rubby quietly did thousands of deeds, such as buying medicine for people with cancer and various other illnesses,” Paulino adds. “He bought pets and schoolbooks for children. He was greatly loved in his country, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela. I want you to always remember him with his beautiful smile and his love for everyone.”

Pérez also achieved success on the Tropical Airplay chart, landing four entries over the years. Among them, “Tu Vas a Volar” reached a career-high at No. 9 in 2001. Most recently, Pérez collaborated with Romeo Santos, Toño Rosario and Fernandito Villalona on “15,500 Noches,” featuring Ramón Orlando, which peaked at No. 15 in 2022.

Tay-K Found Guilty of Murder in Killing of Photographer

Rapper Tay-K has been found guilty of murdering a photographer in 2017, but was acquitted of capital murder.

On Monday (April 14), a jury found the rapper, real name Taymor Mclntyre, guilty of robbing and killing photographer Mark Anthony Saldivar, according to News 4 San Antonio. Prosecutors had argued Mclntyre fatally shot Saldivar after stealing his photography equipment, while defense attorneys contested both the physical evidence and eyewitness testimony, saying they didn’t directly tie Mclntyre to the crime.

Tay-K, who was a minor at the time of the shooting, now faces five to 99 years in prison. Had he been convicted of capital murder, he would have received an automatic life sentence.

The rapper, who rose to fame with the 2017 hit “The Race,” was convicted on a different murder charge in 2019 related to a 2016 home invasion. That case resulted in a 30-year sentence for aggravated robbery, along with an additional 13-year sentence for two other counts of aggravated robbery.

In social media posts from behind bars, the 24-year-old pleaded with the judge in this latest case to give him a second chance.

“I really just need 1 chance @ adulthood,” he wrote in 2023. “I bet if I was a lil white kid they wouldn’t have gave me no 55 years for a crime I was alleged to play the most insignificant role in when I was 16….they woulda rightfully argued that my mind wasn’t fully developed and gave me rehabilitation and a 2nd (1st) chance at adulthood.”

Young Thug ‘UY SCUTI’ Coachella Billboard Hints at May Release Date

Young Thug could be making his official return to music with a new album next month.

Back in March, he attended a Miami Heat game with his girlfriend Mariah the Scientist, where the two held up white Heat jerseys with their names on the back, except Thug’s No. 5 jersey had the words “UY Scuti” on the back. He then tweeted out that he’s “King Spider the biggest star in the world,” which helped fans realize that UY Scuti wasn’t something he made up, but instead is the name of the biggest star in the known universe.

Future also tweeted the phrase a day later, leading fans to believe something from Thug was on the horizon — and that seems to be the case.

Young Thug fan account Thugger Daily is reporting that a new billboard has been spotted near Coachella that says in all-caps: “Universe has been too quiet. Until now. UY SCUTI.” In the lower-right corner of the billboard is a May 2025 release date, with the specific day blacked out.

It’s worth pointing out that May 9 lands on a Friday this year, and that’s the same date the Atlanta rapper and 27 others were taken into custody by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on RICO charges three years ago in 2022.

Aside from a handful of features, Thug hasn’t released any solo music since his release from prison in November. However, the idea of a joint album with him, Future, and Lil Baby has been floated by Baby himself, who said it was Thug’s idea and it’s almost done.

Lady Gaga headlined the first night of Coachella on Friday night (April 11), and while the set was jam-packed with hits from albums like Born This Way, The Fame and her most recent project, Mayhem, fans were quick to notice some albums were missing from the performance.

In a TikTok photo posted by a fan, Gaga is seen in a moment from her Coachella set in which she’s laying among skeletons while buried in the sand. The skeletons were labeled as albums that weren’t featured in her setlist, including 2013’s Artpop, 2016’s Joanne, 2020’s Chromatica and 2024’s Harlequin. “Well Gaga doesn’t remember Artpop and I don’t think she’ll remember Harlequin,” the fan captioned the post, comparing her musical homage to her Joker: Folie à Deux character to Artpop, which is known among pop enthusiasts as a “forgotten” album thanks to a 2019 tweet by the singer.

However, Gaga doesn’t want Harlequin to have the same reputation as Artpop, taking to the comments to write, “Harlequin is one of my proudest pieces of production,” she wrote alongside a black heart emoji. See the TikTok here.

Gaga released Harlequin in September 2024 as a companion album to the Joker: Folie à Deux film, in which she starred Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker. The project scored Gaga her third No. 1 on Billboard’s Jazz Albums and Traditional Jazz Albums charts, as Harlequin debuts atop both tallies (dated Oct. 12). 

The superstar is set to take the stage again for weekend two of Coachella, headlining the event on Friday (April 18).
