Here Are the Lyrics to Taylor Swift’s ‘Midnight Rain’

Taylor Swift played with vocal production on her Midnights track, “Midnight Rain,” a ode to the boy who searched for “comfortable” in the wrong place.

With her 10th studio album, Swift made one of the most historic weeks in the 64-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as she became the first artist to claim the survey’s entire top 10 in a single frame. “Midnight Rain” came in at No. 5.

If you need a guide to follow along with Taylor Swift’s “Midnight Rain,” find the lyrics below:

Rain, he wanted it comfortable
I wanted that pain
He wanted a bride
I was making my own name
Chasing that fame
He stayed the same
All of me changed like midnight

My town was a wasteland
Full of cages, full of fences
Pageant queens and big pretenders
But for some it was paradise

My boy was a montage
A slow-motion love potion
Jumping off things in the ocean
I broke his heart ’cause he was nice
He was sunshine, I was midnight

Rain, he wanted it comfortable
I wanted that pain
He wanted a bride
I was making my own name
Chasing that fame
He stayed the same
All of me changed like midnight

It came like a postcard
Picture perfect, shiny family
Holiday peppermint candy
But for him it’s every day

So I peered through a window
A deep portal, time travel
All the love we unraveled
And the life I gave away
‘Cause he was sunshine, I was midnight

Rain, he wanted it comfortable
I wanted that pain
He wanted a bride
I was making my own name
Chasing that fame
He stayed the same
All of me changed like midnight

Rain, he wanted it comfortable
I wanted that pain
He wanted a bride
I was making my own name
Chasing that fame
He stayed the same
All of me changed like midnight

I guess sometimes we all get
Just what we wanted, just what we wanted
And he never thinks of me
Except when I’m on TV

I guess sometimes we all get
Some kind of haunted, some kind of haunted
And I never think of him
Except on midnights like this
(Midnight’s like this, midnight’s like this)

Beyond all that is a hot week of new releases. Ready? Let’s dig in.

Channel Tres, “6am”

Channel Tres is living the high life on his new single, “6am.” The latest preview from his forthcoming debut album, Real Cultural Sh*t, “6am” finds the Compton-raised artist on the tail end of a long night out— one filled with “private afterparties, red carpets, real Barbies,” as he begins in his nonchalant baritone. But for Channel and his crew, the party’s far from over. With its infectious energy — built upon a chunky, carbonated groove somewhere between euphoric Detroit techno and sun-kissed French Touch — “6am” is joyful defiance turned anthem through its choral refrain: “We ain’t leavin’.” The new single arrives with a Tajana Williams-directed video in which Channel and co. dance their way through the city with slick choreography and equally slick outfits.

“‘6am’ is a happy song, and I never really let myself make happy songs,” writes Channel. “For me right now, this song represents the grind, and sometimes when things get hard you just gotta dance your way through it. I wanted to create a song for people to come together and dance. Some people get off work at 6 am, some people leave the club at 6 am and this can be the soundtrack to it all.” — KRYSTAL RODRIGUEZ

The Blessed Madonna, “Seratonin Moonbeams”

What was the soundtrack to those back-in-the-day parties that made you fall in love with raving and also fall in love with everyone at the rave? For The Blessed Madonna, that sound is an effervescent confection of piano stabs, bass drum kicks and a good deal of whistling, with the producer’s latest coming as an homage to the ’90s party scene that formed her. The aptly titled “Serotonin Moombeams” is the Kentucky-born, London-based producer’s first new music in five years and her first release upon signing to Warner. It features vocals from clubland favorite Uffie, who declares “serotonin got me screaming love love love now!!” — a sentiment to anyone who’s ridden that late night neurochemical thrill ride can surely relate to.

“We talked about what it was like to fall in love in the Vicks Vapo-rub, candy soaked raves of the 90s,” the producer born Marea Stamper says. “It’s about ‘cuddle puddles’ and the intense emotional, physical and spiritual connections that can form when serotonal conditions are right. Barriers that might exist in a normal dating atmosphere evaporate and strangers can become intimate and beloved figures in an instant. It’s gotten an incredible response since I tested it the first time in Brazil on tour. It was written on one of those days where I was running from the production console to the sofa to bang out lyrics with Uffie and Jin Jin. I remember being so embarrassed to suggest, ‘Bet I hit you with that bad bitch, thunder lightning, super frightening yeah!’ But when I did, they just howled and we knew we were onto something.” — KATIE BAIN

Chris Lake feat. Aatig, “In The Yuma”

A lot of producers we’ve talked to found the pandemic trying on their inspirational motivation. A lot of them get their ideas from playing live in front of hundreds or thousands of people, and it’s tough to make a “put your hands up” anthem when you’ve been stuck staring at the same four walls for months on end.

Chris Lake, on the other hand, somehow made it happen. His latest single “In The Yuma” is a beautiful bit of rhythmic meditation, where the modern tech house icon successfully channeled the energy of his Coachella 2019 performance (in the festival’s Yuma tent, get it?) and recreated that sweaty, funky get-down into a lively tune that fits on futuristic dance floors around the world.

“The pandemic was a shitty time but great things came from it,” Lake says. “It was great to be doing music whilst being live on Twitch in 2020, and one of the best memories I have from that time is making this track. When I finally got around to testing it out live (over a year later) I couldn’t believe how well it worked. I’ve been playing it ever since.” – KAT BEIN

Maya Jane Coles feat. Moxie Knox, “Freefall”

It’s been over six months since we’ve heard new music from Maya Jane Coles, but rest assured, she’s not yet finished with 2022. The producer recently shared that she has three EPs coming out before the end of the year — and today we get the first of them with Freefall. The title track is rich with Coles’ dark yet danceable enigmatic sound, as spectral synths, delicate drums and looped vocal hums swirl together atop a velvety bassline. Singer Moxie Knox highlights that dark softness with her dreamy, floating vocals, which swell and fade into the background like ghostly beings. “Freefall” is as much moody R&B for the witching hour as it is dancefloor heat, and it also comes with two bass-heavy remixes from ZeroFG and Ruff Style. — K.R.

SIDEPIECE, “Reborn”

What started as a side hustle is fast becoming a main event. Party Favor and Nitti’s Sidepiece is Grammy-nominated and ready to take the world by storm. Case in point: the duo’s latest single “Reborn.” It struts, it bumps, and it’s scientifically-formulated to set booties on fire. It’s the secret weapon groove that’s about to be unleashed on crowds across the country as Sidepiece heads out on its Kiss And Tell: Second Base headline tour. Let the high-powered house rhythm wash over you, and be “Reborn” in the waters of bass and melody. – K. Bein

Sega Bodega, “Kepko”

The best nights out are a chaotic blur, and Sega Bodega’s latest tune “Kepko” captures that spirit in full-tilt maddening glory. Manic and beautiful, the Irish-Scottish producer-singer lays a languid melody over a frenetic beat, creating the same swirling intensity you might feel at 3:00 a.m. when your body is begging for sleep but your soul is spinning out on club vibes. The video is right there with it, filmed by the artist and his friend Lydia Ourahmane during a night on the town.

“Lydia’s camera is haunted,” Bodega says. “Everything we filmed went back into the laptop all destroyed and glitching like this. A gift.” Like any good night out, the clip features lots of friendly cameos. See if you can spot Caroline Polachek, Uffie, Virgen Maria and a few others. – K. Bein

VASSY, Bingo Players & Disco Fries, “Pieces”

Only those impervious to the effects of soundwaves will not feel uplifted by “Pieces,” a bright-as-the-sun collab from Dutch producer Bingo Players, U.S. producer Disco Fries and Aussie fav VASSY, whose voice soars to the heavens, and brings you along for the ride, with on this one. The anthem is about how finding the right person to love can build you up “piece by piece,” but we say that given the way this one makes us feel, it’s as much a self-empowerment anthem as well. The track is out now via SPINNIN. — K. Bain

Chace, Belated Suffocation

What would it sound like if Justin Bieber made a deep house album? It’s a crucial question answered by proxy via Belated Suffocation, the debut album from Chinese producer Chace. Having made history in 2017 as the first Chinese artist to play the mainstage at Tomorrowland, the album finds the now 23-year-old producer even more fully formed, with it delivering 11 tracks on which Chace delivers pillow talk lyrics in a voice with the R&B shimmer of Changes-era Bieiber over moody, sexy productions reminiscent of Zhu and Bob Moses. The LP is out via Astralwerks and Fabled Records, the imprint launched by Live Nation’s Asian electronic dance music division earlier this year. — K.B.

Here Are the Lyrics to Taylor Swift’s ‘Lavender Haze’

Taylor Swift introduced fans to the world of Midnights with the album’s opening track, “Lavender Haze,” a purple-hued love song.

With her 10th studio album, Swift made one of the most historic weeks in the 64-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, as she became the first artist to claim the survey’s entire top 10 in a single frame. “Lavender Haze” clocked in at No. 2, just behind lead single “Anti-Hero.”

If you need a guide to follow along with Taylor Swift’s “Lavender Haze,” find the lyrics below:

Meet me at midnight
(Ooh, ooh, ooh, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa)

Staring at the ceiling with you
Oh, you don’t ever say too much
And you don’t really read into
My melancholia

I’ve been under scrutiny (yeah, oh yeah)
You handle it beautifully (yeah, oh yeah)
All this sh– is new to me (yeah, oh yeah)

I feel a lavender haze creeping up on me
So real, I’m damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal, the 1950s sh– they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze
(Ooh, ooh, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa)

All they keep asking me (all they keep asking me)
Is if I’m gonna be your bride
The only kind of girl they see (the only kind of girl they see)
Is a one night or a wife

I find it dizzying (yeah, oh yeah)
They’re bringing up my history (yeah, oh yeah)
But you aren’t even listening (yeah, oh yeah)

I feel a lavender haze creeping up on me
So real, I’m damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal, the 1950s sh– they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze (ooh, ooh, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa)
That lavender haze

Talk your talk and go viral
I just need this love spiral
Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk (get it off my desk)
Talk your talk and go viral
I just need this love spiral
Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk

I feel (I feel) a lavender haze creeping up on me
So real, I’m damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal (no deal), the 1950s sh– they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze
(Ooh, ooh, whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa)

Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk
That lavender haze
I just wanna stay
I just wanna stay
In that lavender haze

Dita Von Teese Talks to Dua Lipa About ‘Harnessing Your Erotic Power’

Dua Lipa is the latest pop star to spend time with burlesque performer Dita Von Teese.

The “Levitating” singer sat down with the performer for Friday’s (Nov. 11) episode of her At Your Service podcast, in which the pair spent some time talking about femininity and sexuality and how the two coexist in light of the #MeToo movement.

A thoughtful portion of the interview saw Lipa asking Von Teese about how perception often plays a large part in the way women are viewed, to which the performer clarified that true feminism is about choosing a path that feels most authentic to oneself.

“As a woman in the public eye myself, have you ever felt the need to reassess this persona and the presentation, if at all? Perceptions of sexuality and perceptions of femininity. Perceptions have become so much less binary these days, less black and white,” Lipa mused. “How would you reply to people who would question if femininity and feminism can peacefully coexist, especially in the #MeToo era?”

Von Teese went into a story about promoting one of her books and shared how shocked she was to see is was primarily women coming out to support her.

“By telling my story about why I love [burlesque], it resonated with other women, about harnessing your erotic power, your sensual power,” she told the singer. “Living life on your own terms, a new kind of feminism, because ultimately to me being a feminist means choosing to live your life however you want.”

Last week, Taylor Swift unveiled her “Bejeweled” music video, co-starring Von Teese. In the fairytale-inspired clip, the burlesque performer plays the Fairy Goddess to Swift’s Cinderella, and even performs alongside the superstar in giant matching martini glasses covered in Swarovski crystals. “What a delight to perform alongside her for the video!” Von Teese said in a statement after the video’s release.

Von Teese is the latest celebrity to join Lipa on the second season of the pop star’s At Your Service podcast. Earlier this year, Lipa was joined by Monica Lewinsky, Min Jin Lee, Charli XCX, Bryan Stevenson, Trevor Noah, Brandon Wolf and Dan Levy.

Julieta Venegas Talks ‘Tu Historia’: Looking Back on Her Story to Enrich Her Future

Julieta Venegas cherishes the past to enrich the future, as she explores the different facets of personal histories. That’s the crux of Tu Historia, her eighth studio album, in which the Mexican singer-songwriter rejects a mainstream mentality, goes independent from her former major label, and comes full circle to find more intimacy.

On her journey to penning these perspectives, she revisits her roots in Tijuana, which was the inspiration of her introspective guitar ballad “La nostalgia,” and where she filmed a few music videos.

Never one to write a vapid hook for the sake of catchiness, Venegas possesses the rare quality of writing both memorable and reverent lyrics with apparent ease to make them relatable. “Respira el tiempo te hará bien/ Algo has aprendido y lo llevarás contigo, ya vas a ver/ Deja tu pasado ser parte de ti” (Breathe time will do you good/ You have learned something and you will take it with you, you’ll see/ Let your past be a part of you”, she croons on the album’s title track, along with her unmistakable accordion riffs. (Venegas can play just about any instrument with keys and strings.)

In talking with the Tijuana native, she is modest about her many talents. Recently, she collaborated with contemporary superstar Bad Bunny on “Lo Siento BB:/”, but the wider exposure is never the driver behind her work — it’s always about the art, and experimenting with new sonic textures.

Her new album was produced by Chilean electro-pop artist Alex Anwandter, who was very impressed with Venega’s level of artistry. “When I was with her in the studio, I was like, ‘Wow, that’s why Julieta is doing amazingly well, because she’s such a genius,’” he told Billboard. “And to see a genius working for me was very impressive.”

Julieta Venegas became a full-blown international pop star at the start of the new millennium with , her third album. But to some longtime followers of her ‘90s-era indie rock days, it was sort of the equivalent of Dylan going electric. She had established herself as a prominent voice and songwriter in the Mexican punk rock scene with band Tijuana No!, and as a solo artist with producer Gustavo Santoalalla (Café Tacvba, Maldita Vecindad, Molotov). “I don’t like to stand still and say, ‘I do rock’,” she says. “I don’t do rock, I make songs.”

While living in Mexico City, she released some of her best work, including Limón y Sal (2006), which entered the Billboard 200 album chart, as well as Los momentos(2013) and Algo sucede (2015), which debuted at No.1 on the Latin Pop Albums chart. At the end of the month, she will present Tu Historia live in Los Angeles and New York. She will also perform at the eclectic Bésame Mucho festival in L.A., along with Los Tigres del Norte, Caifanes, Zoé and Café Tacvba, among others.

Venegas recently talked to Billboard Español from Argentina, where she now lives, to shed light on her story. Below, she speaks at length on her recent work and her earlier career.

On the concept of Tu historia and some songs:

Tu Historia is the album, but there are also many stories. They’re different songs that have to do with everything — friendship, love, heartbreak, everything. What [the title song] is telling you is to carry your past with you and never abandon it. Don’t think you have to erase it.

And “En Tu Orilla” is inspired on a poem by Chilean poet Raúl Zurita. He is asking [an ex] that when time passes, to continue keeping him in her corner. It is a request that I thought was very tender, because he is asking [a former lover] — even though the two of them are a done story — to keep him somewhere within.

About her creative process and her collaboration with Alex Anwandter:

With Alex, we’ve been friends for many years. In fact, we collaborated on another album, [2016’s Amiga, in the song “Caminando a la Fabrica”] and we see each other a lot. I told him I was making these songs, and asked him to listen to them and tell me if I had something for a record. From there, we started talking about “hey, I want to work with you.”

The most important thing is the choice of songs, the repertoire. That’s the foundation for everything, and the essence of the album. Alex is that type of producer — like, “First let’s focus that the songs are great, and from there we start thinking about the sound.” I really liked the idea of having the acoustic elements, but also putting lots of synthesizer into it. And he is very into synths, he is also a violinist. Of the ten songs, about seven of them have strings.

On transitioning from Sony to an independent label:

I think you have to try different routes. Since Algo sucede, I had already done a Sony distribution. In other words, little by little, I naturally began to distance myself from such a large structure. I wanted to work on a smaller scale, perhaps build everything in a more personal way with my team. I don’t know if I ever identified that much with the huge structure like what a large label requires. I really like what it means to work with a distributor like Altafonte. It’s involved in the promotion and marketing part. In other words, if someone is going to be the label person, it’s going to be me. I was interested in this new way of doing things.

From doing underground punk and indie rock to being a pop powerhouse:

First of all, the songs come first. I always look at the songs from a songwriter’s point of view. I started composing with Chantaje, the group before Tijuana No!and I learned a lot there. Later, I began to experiment more in my way of writing. Then, on my third album, Sí, I liked the idea of trying more simpler compositions, because I had been making more complex albums prior. It was more intuitive and played a lot with structures. I am very curious and I always like to try different things. Then, you see what style you want for it — whether that’s electronic, acoustic, rock, if you want to add an electric guitar with distortion, or a charango.

I don’t like to stand still and say “I make rock”. No, I don’t make rock, I make songs. In fact, there are hardly any electric guitars on my [new] record. There are like two in a couple of songs, but it’s minimal. I’ve always been more about the piano, accordion, drum machines, synths — those are my elements that I can’t stop coming back to.

About her collaboration with Bad Bunny and Tainy on “Lo Siento BB:/”:

It’s a Tainy song, actually. Tainy, Bad Bunny’s producer, was the one who called me. He’s produced a lot of reggaetón, urbano and pop artists. He started producing for reggaetón artists, but he’s expanded his reach. I like him a lot because he has a very broad vision of music, and I very much agree with that vision. He identifies these parings and links his teams with artists that come from the pop, folk, Mexican music world.

He told me: “I would very much like you to write a response to what Benito is saying.” It seemed very gracious to me, and at the same time he gave me complete liberty to be able to express what naturally came to me. Originally, the song was going to be sung by Benito, and my part was going to be left at the end, as a kind of interlude. But in the end they decided to put it as an introduction, and I loved it.

On filming music videos on the border and Tijuana:

The video for “La Nostalgia” was filmed on the Tecate highway; and the one for “Tu Historia” was filmed in Tijuana. They were directed by Nicolasa Ruiz, a director from Mexicali who lives in Mexico City, and I wanted the videos to be filmed in those landscapes. I started looking for people and I came to Nicolasa through my sister and friends. I really liked her work, because it’s very personal, very outside the mainstream. She has a very beautiful and biographical vision that tells stories. She had not directed videos, but it felt nice meeting with her.

I left Tijuana when I was very young, but it’s a place that always keeps pulling me back and making me think about my childhood and teen years. That is where I developed as a person, it’s my land. [Being in Tijuana] is a whole package: seeing my family, my friends, eating, and the landscape. The Pacific gives us this Baja Californian beach freshness and the desert. That combination of climate and landscape is very unique.

Lift me up
Hold me down
Keep me close
Safe and sound

Burning in a hopeless dream
Hold me when you go to sleep
Keep me in the warmth of your love when you depart
Keep me safe, safe and sound

Lift me up
Hold me down
Keep me close
Safe and sound

Drowning in an endless sea
Take some time and stay with me
Keep me in the strength of your arms
Keep me safe, safe and sound

Lift (lift) me up
Hold me down
Keep me safe
Safe and sound

Burning in a hopeless dream
Hold me when you go to sleep
Keep me safe
We need light, we need love

(Lift) lift me up (me up) in your arms
(Hold) I need love, I need love (me down) I need love
(Keep) hold me (me close) hold me
(Safe) hold me, hold me (and sound) hold me, hold me
(Lift) hold me, hold me (me up) hold me, hold me
(Hold) hold me (me down) hold me

Joe Jonas and Khalid Drop ‘Not Alone’ Video From Korean War Drama ‘Devotion’ on Veterans Day

Joe Jonas and Khalid are honoring members of the military on Veterans Day (Nov. 11) with the premiere of the video for their ballad “Not Alone.” The sweeping song appears on the soundtrack to the upcoming Korean war drama Devotion (Nov. 23), which stars Jonathan Majors, Glen Powell and Jonas.

In a sneak peek of the Quran Squire-directed visual posted by People, the director explains that the shoot took place at Hangar 21 in Fullerton, California, where the singers lip synched their bits from the dramatic song co-written by Ryan Tedder and Harv in front of the actual vintage war plane used in the film.

“We definitely spoke about the idea of shooting this video as a separation of my two passions from music and acting,” Jonas told People. “I’m not playing a character in this video, I’m myself. But we wanted the video to speak to the raw emotion of the song, so everything from the clothing to actually having one of the planes we used in the film.”

“Another step on your own/ Another mile that you’ve flown/ And I’ve been right by your side/ There’s so much more than you see/ Like the wind that blows through the trees,” Jonas sings on the first verse, which swells into the sweeping chorus: “You are not alone/ I watch over you, ooh/ Won’t let you go, you gotta know, you’re not alone/ You are not alone.”

Jonas told the magazine that he was eager to collaborate with his friend Khalid on the song, explaining, “Having him part of this co-write and also his beautiful voice [being] part of this brought it to a whole new level.” Khalid said he felt the same way about being part of the credit sequence track from the biographical drama based on the 2017 book Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship and Sacrifice about two pilots who were among the most celebrated wingmen during the Korean War.

“I’m very thankful that Joe reached out to me to be a part of this. I think that the message is really special,” Khalid said. “The movie, he tells me, is incredible. I can’t wait to see it for myself. And this is just a beautiful experience all around. Good vibes, good people, good energy. And I can’t wait for you guys to hear the song and see the movie.”

Britney Spears & Ariana Grande Bond Over Their Perfume Lines: ‘Sending You So Much Love, Queen’

Ah, the sweet smell of women supporting each other. Britney Spears and Ariana Grande complimented each other on their respective perfume lines on Instagram Friday (Nov. 11), though the “Toxic” singer jokingly confessed it might not be the best for business to shout out a competing brand.

“I know I shouldn’t say this because I have my own line of perfume…,” Brit wrote on Instagram. “But I’m obsessed with @ArianaGrande’s fragrance line. I have the spray and two bottles from it !!! I guess I’m sharing this now that I can breathe better and it smells so good!”

Just a few hours later, Grande took to the comments to return the compliment. “I love yours as well !” she wrote. “Always have and will.”

“Sending you so much love, queen,” the Positions pop star added.

Grande has released several fragrances over the years, from 2015’s “Ari by Ariana Grande” scent to her “God is a Woman” range of body products. Spears, on the other hand, has also been the face of several perfumes, releasing her first, “Curious,” in 2004. She’s released two fragrances just this year: “Blissful Fantasy” and “Naked Fantasy.”

The interaction between the two artists comes a couple days after Spears posted a lengthy message on Twitter expressing her frustration with all the “humiliating” documentaries that have been made about her.  “I am a person … I’m not a robot or a science experiment like they analyzed me in that place !!!” she wrote.

“I’m a valued soul,” she continued. “So for the documentaries that were done on me, they were trash and nothing more than trash … period !!!”

The one-night-only show comes on the heels of Nas’ recently wrapped NY State of Mind Tour, which saw him hit the road with Wu-Tang Clan and special guest Busta Rhymes for a series of 25 dates across the U.S. and Canada, including stops at Los Angeles, Toronto, Atlanta, and Newark.

King’s Disease III, which contains a total of 17 songs, was produced and executive produced by Hit-Boy. Nas — who found success in the late ’90s and early 2000s — also participated in the executive production of the record. The album marks Nas’ first offering since the release of his surprise nine-song LP, Magic, which was released last year on Dec. 24.
