Attention, Barbz! Nicki Minaj will be celebrating the release of her new single “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” with an all-new episode of Queen Radio on Friday (March 3).

Last summer, the rap queen dropped a limited merch collection coinciding with the long-awaited return of Queen Radio, which debuted on Amazon’s audio platform, AMP, last year. Minaj topped the Billboard Hot 100 and the Rhythmic Airplay charts last year with her hit single “Super Freaky Girl.”

Queen Radio is scheduled to return Friday at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on the Amp app, Minaj tweeted on Friday.

“Changing the structure of [the] show a bit for 2023 so we gotta’ make sure to have it perfect for my babies,” Minaj tweeted to fans. “Love You. Missed you so much. Talk soon.”

This month marks one year since Minaj first announced her partnership with Amazon and the return of Queen Radio, which was previously available on Apple Music.

“I am very excited to be partners with Amazon on bringing back Queen Radio,” Minaj said at the time. “Queen Radio is something that is so dear to my heart. Of course, there have been times where I’ve thought about not wanting to do Queen Radio, or any radio for that matter, but why not?”

We ‘Thought You Should Know’: Morgan Wallen Tops Country Airplay Chart for Third Week

Morgan Wallen’s “Thought You Should Know” becomes the first song of 2023 to rule Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart for three weeks, as it extends its reign on the March 11-dated survey. In the tracking week ending March 2, it gained by 1% to 34.9 million impressions, according to Luminate.

Wallen co-authored the track with Nicolle Galyon and Miranda Lambert. It’s from Wallen’s 36-song album One Thing at a Time, released Friday (March 3).

In a press release about the new LP, Wallen said: “I just try to tell it how it is – the good, the bad, the love, the heartbreak. That’s all I know how to do. My hope is that this album makes my fans proud; makes ’em laugh, smirk, cry, and think – just like it did for me.”

To celebrate the set’s arrival, Wallen is headlining a free show at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Friday night.

Notably, of the 29 titles to ascend to the Country Airplay summit in 2022, only five dominated for three weeks or more – and two were by Wallen: “Wasted on You” (three weeks, beginning July 2) and “You Proof” (a record 10, starting Oct. 15). The others were: Jason Aldean’s “Trouble With a Heartache” (three, May 28); Scotty McCreery’s “Damn Strait” (three, July 23); and Cole Swindell’s “She Had Me at Heads Carolina” (four, Sept. 17).

Concurrently, Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time,” his newest single at country radio, rises 37-36 on Country Airplay (3.4 million impressions, up 21%). “Last Night,” also from One Thing at a Time, jumps 47-41 (2.2 million, up 51%). The latter is being promoted to pop radio and climbs 40-34 on the Pop Airplay chart.

Meanwhile, among Wallen’s eight Country Airplay No. 1s, half have now led for three weeks or more. Prior to “Thought,” “Proof” and “Wasted,” he reigned for three weeks in June 2019 with “Whiskey Glasses.”

All charts dated March 11 will update on Billboard.com Tuesday, March 7.

Hip-Hop Wired Presents: CRT FRSH [Certified Fresh] Playlist 3.3.23 #DeLaSoul

HipHopWired Featured Video

2006 Southern Comfort Music Experience with Flaming Lips and Big Star

In this very special update of the CRT FRSH playlist, we’re turning our focus on the legendary trio, De La Soul. To honor the Plugs getting their music back onto streaming services, we’re featuring 33 (see what we did there?) tracks from the Long Island legends.

As every other Hip-Hop publication has artfully noted, the release of De La Soul’s in digital and downloadable form comes as fans of the group are still mourning the passing of David Jolicoeur, largely known as Dave and formerly known as Trugoy The Dove. Plug Two, as he was affectionately known, passed on Feb. 12 of this year at the age of 54.

Breaking the wall here a bit, I can tell you as a young man growing up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., having music created by a group that represented all sides of my personality and embodied some of my hopes and dreams was so instrumental in my development as a person. De La Soul made it cool to be a little left of center, and also be prepared to handle one’s self if needed as the crew told us on the track “Area” from Buhloone Mindstate.

While some might consider Posdonous the best rapper in the group, Plug Two was always my favorite within the rapping portion of De La Soul for reasons far too music nerdy to share here. All I’ll add to this is that a random encounter with Dave some years ago inside Reagan National Airport was a beautiful moment I’ll never forget. Truly a humble giant. May he rest in powerful peace.

CRT FRSH is largely about celebrating the up-and-coming acts in the wide world of Hip-Hop but we thought it best to shift gears and turn our collective attention on the magnificent discography of De La Soul and how much they’ve impacted the culture of Hip-Hop over the past three decades.

Look At The Growth: Drake Expresses Regret For Name-Dropping His Exes In His Songs

Drake Says He Regrets Rapping About His Exes On Songs

The 6 God feels remorseful about rapping about his former love interests in his songs.

Speaking with Lil Yachty for the premiere episode of his FUTUREMOOD’s A Moody Conversation series, the 36-year-old Canadian Hip-Hop star had a moment of self-reflection.

“Maybe I coulda done without, like, s—ting on people for age or disrupting somebody’s life,” the “God’s Plan” crafter said speaking about his exes.

“The lyrics are never with ill intent, but I had somebody tell me one time, ‘You know, it’s not necessarily what you’re saying about me, it’s the fact that you said it,” Drizzy told Lil Yachty.

Drake went even deeper talking about a conversation with an ex about him name-dropping her in a song.

She told the OVO general, “You don’t know who my boyfriend is at the time, or you don’t know what my family knows or doesn’t know. And if you express any form of discontent for me and call me by name in a song, then all of a sudden I’m left to pick up the pieces of my own life that I’ve tried to build up for myself.”

“So I’ve tried my best to stop doing that,” Drake continued. “But I like to be honest in music too, so that one’s a push and pull.”

We guess that is a sign of growth.

Drake has gone on to boastfully rap on songs about hooking up with Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, and SZA. He brought up the singer’s name on his track “Mr. Right Now.”

“Yeah, said she wanna f— to some SZA, wait / ‘Cause I used to date SZA back in ’08,” he rapped.

With eight leaders, Death Cab for Cutie slots into a tie for the fifth-most in the Adult Alternative Airplay chart’s 27-year history, alongside John Mayer. Coldplay and U2 lead all acts with 13 No. 1s apiece.

Most No. 1s, Adult Alternative Airplay:

Film Directors Who Were Oscar-Nominated for Writing Songs for Their Films: Full List

If “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wins the Oscar for best original song on Sunday March 12, Ryan Coogler will become just the second person in Oscar history, and the first in 45 years, to win an Oscar for writing or co-writing a song from a film he directed. The first was Joe Brooks, who wrote “You Light Up My Life,” the 1977 winner.

Just by being nominated in this category, Coogler has joined an exclusive (and rather eclectic) club. Fourteen people have received Oscar nominations for writing or co-writing songs for films that they directed. Coogler is the first person of color to achieve the feat. Other club members include Barbra Streisand, Mel Brooks, Spike Jonze, Seth MacFarlane and Trey Parker.

Most of these people wrote the lyrics, not the melody. This suggests that the directors know what their film is trying to say, and can help put that message across in a song. Only four of the 14 – Coogler, Parker, Streisand and Brooks – contributed both music and lyrics. None solely wrote the music.

“Lift Me Up” is viewed as one of three front-runners in this year’s Oscar race for best original song, along with “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick (music and lyric by Lady Gaga and BloodPop) and “Naatu Naatu” from RRR (music by M.M. Keeravaani; lyric by Chandrabose). The other nominees are “Applause” from Tell It like a Woman (music and lyric by Diane Warren) and “This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once (music by Ryan Lott, David Byrne and Mitski; lyric by Ryan Lott and David Byrne).

Here’s a complete list of everyone who has been nominated for best original song for writing or co-writing a song from a film they directed. The list is in reverse chronological order.

Chris Brown Throws Fan’s Phone Into The Crowd For Filming While On Stage

Chris Brown has just given his critics another reason to call him out. He recently threw a fan’s phone after bringing her on stage.

As spotted on Page Six the Virginia Beach, Virginia native is currently on tour to support his most recent album Breezy. During his stop in Berlin, Germany he invited a lucky fan on stage for a very intimate performance of “Take You Down.” While it is safe to say she was the envy of every other female in the house, the woman didn’t seem to be truly living in the moment. She soon pulled out her phone to record the moment. But Chris Brown politely took the phone out of her hands and sat it on her lap so she can enjoy the once in a lifetime experience.

But as Chris Brown started to dance around her, she grabbed the device yet again and that’s when things went left. He then took her phone and threw it into the arena which caused the crowd to go wild. The unidentified woman seemed to be turned off by his reaction when she threw her hands up in the air in a sign of frustration. At that moment, the lights were shut off and she was escorted away from the stage.

Luckily, she received her phone back. But there is no telling if it was damaged or not. As expected, the incident was caught on film, and the clip quickly went viral. While his fans defended Brown saying that the gesture of the private dance went unappreciated, others claimed that the move was totally uncalled for.

Bad Omens Earn Their First Airplay Chart No. 1 With ‘Just Pretend’

Bad Omens score their first Billboard airplay chart No. 1 with “Just Pretend,” which jumps to the top of the March 11-dated Mainstream Rock Airplay survey.

“Pretend” crowns the list, up from No. 3, in its 27th week on the tally. It wraps the fourth-longest trip to No. 1 in the chart’s 42-year history; Trapt’s “Headstrong” leads all songs with 40 weeks from its debut to its first week atop the ranking.

The last song to take as long as “Pretend” was Young Guns’ “Bones,” which ruled in its 31st week in 2013.

Longest Trips to No. 1, Mainstream Rock Airplay:

  • 40 weeks, “Headstrong,” Trapt (2003)
  • 31, “Bones,” Young Guns” (2013)
  • 28, “Paralyzer,” Finger Eleven (2007)
  • 27, “Just Pretend,” Bad Omens (2023)
  • 26, “Masterpiece,” Motionless in White” 2022)
  • 25, “S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun),” The Glorious Sons (2019)
  • 25, “Tired,” Stone Sour (2014)

Bad Omens’ first Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 follows three previous appearances. The band first charted with “Limits” in 2020 (No. 19 peak), followed by “Never Know” (No. 25, 2021) and its first top 10, “Like a Villain” (No. 10, 2022).

The Richmond, Va., four-piece is the first act to earn a first Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 in 2023. The last initial leader was Motionless in White‘s “Masterpiece” last October.

Concurrently, “Pretend” bullets at No. 31, after reaching No. 30 the previous week, on Alternative Airplay. On the all-rock-format, audience-based Rock & Alternative Airplay chart, it rises 7-5 with 3.6 million audience impressions (Feb. 24-March 2), up 10%, according to Luminate.

The song has spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on the multi-metric Hot Hard Rock Songs chart. On the latest survey (dated March 4), it ranked at No. 3; in addition to its radio airplay, “Pretend” earned 2.3 million official U.S. streams and sold 1,000 downloads in the Feb. 17-23 tracking week.

“Pretend” is the second single, following “Villain,” from The Death of Peace of Mind, Bad Omens’ third studio album. The set has earned 164,000 equivalent album units since release.

The March 11-dated Mainstream Rock Airplay chart will update on Billboard.com on Tuesday, March 7.
