Doja Cat Attends 2023 Met Gala Dressed as Karl Lagerfeld’s Cat

Doja Cat lived up to her name at the 2023 Met Gala on Monday (May 1), when she came dressed as, well, a cat.

Not just any cat, though. The “Woman” superstar’s jewel-encrusted look, complete with a cat ear headpiece and prosthetic feline nose, is in tribute to Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat, Choupette. The look is perfectly on theme, Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in honor of the fashion designer who died in February 2019.

Choupette, who Lagerfeld adopted in 2011, hilariously confirmed earlier in the day that she wouldn’t be attending the prestigious event via an Instagram post. “Many people invited me to walk the red carpet of the #METGALA2023 in tribute to Daddy, but we preferred to stay peacefully & cozy at home,” the post reads alongside photos of the lounging kitty. “We pay tribute to my Daddy every day since his parting and we are very moved to see one more day dedicated to him.”

The Brazilian superstar graced the carpet at her third-ever Met Gala on Monday (May 1) in a structured black Marc Jacobs gown with a long silky train. Ice Spice Trades Her Trademark Curls for Sleek Hair & Dress in Met Gala Debut

From the Bronx to the Met! Ice Spice made her debut at the 2023 Met Gala on Monday evening (May 1).

In honor of this year’s theme, “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” the “Munch” MC (real name Isis Gaston) stunned the A-list audience in a simple yet elegant, body-hugging white sequined Balmain gown. And she traded her signature orange curls for a super-sleek, straightened look. TMZ reported earlier that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who runs the Met Gala, personally invited the “In Ha Mood” rapper after she partnered with Vogue and eBay on an iconic designer’s collection, which was announced during the Met Gala’s livestreamed red carpet.

“I’m just so grateful, I’m so happy to be here. You know, I was like really nervous approaching the carpet. And once I heard everybody screaming, I felt better,” she told Met Gala red carpet host La La Anthony. While touching on her “super last-minute” Balmain look, Ice also showed off her accessory of the evening, a bedazzled vintage camera, and explained how she was looking forward to all of the photos she would take tonight.

The CMA Broadcast Awards are presented for broadcast personality and station of the year in four categories determined by market size (major, large, medium and small market) as well as two categories for CMA national broadcast personality of the year (daily and weekly). Digital service providers with livestream broadcasts are eligible to apply for national broadcast personality of the year.

CMA’s panel of judges, which includes radio and industry professionals, will view and evaluate each entry online. CMA Broadcast Awards winners will be notified in early October and recognized at the November ceremony.

Additionally, the nomination period for CMA’s “industry honors” — which includes categories such as the CMA founding president’s award, the CMA Foundation humanitarian award and the Irving Waugh award of excellence — will remain open through Sunday, July 9.

Nominees and winners for the 2023 CMA Broadcast Awards and the CMA Awards are determined by professional members of the CMA.

Adidas Sued by Shareholders Over Fallout From Kanye West Partnership

A group of investors has filed a class action lawsuit against Adidas, alleging the sportswear giant knew about Kanye West‘s problematic “personal behavior” years prior to ending its partnership with the rapper but failed to warn them about it.

The complaint — representing people who acquired Adidas securities between May 3, 2018, and February 21, 2023 — also names Adidas’ former CEO, Kasper Rorsted, and CFO, Harm Ohlmeyer, as defendants, alleging the executives “employed devices, schemes and artifices to defraud” investors and that the company “failed to take meaningful precautionary measures to limit negative financial exposure” in the event the partnership was terminated as a result of West’s behavior.

West is not named as a defendant in the suit.

Filed Friday (April 28) in U.S. District Court in Oregon, the lawsuit’s “substantive allegations” cite comments made by West (now known as Ye) dating back to 2018, including a notorious TMZ interview in which the rapper called slavery “a choice.” The complaint goes on to point out that Adidas “stuck by” West following his comments and includes excerpts from Rorsted’s 2018 interview with Bloomberg in which he said, “We neither comment nor speculate on every single comment that our external creators are making.” It also includes various offensive comments West directed at the Jewish community as well as his quote, “I can say anti-Semitic things and Adidas can’t drop me,” made during the rapper’s October 2022 appearance on the podcast Drink Champs.

On October 25, 2022, just days after the Drink Champs episode aired, Adidas ended the partnership.

The suit also alleges that Adidas failed to make investors aware that the rapper made “offensive remarks at Company premises” and that the company’s publicly released reports between 2018 and 2021 did not acknowledge “serious issues affecting the partnership” in their “Business Partner Risk” sections. The sections did, however, acknowledge that “improper behavior” from entertainers and athletes representing the brand could have a “negative spill-over effect on the company’s reputation.”

Pushing back on the allegations, Adidas said in a statement to The Associated Press on Monday: “We outright reject these unfounded claims and will take all necessary measures to vigorously defend ourselves against them.”

The suit makes mention of the initial “positive impact” of West’s partnership with Adidas, and the $1 billion worth of sales Yeezy shoes hit by 2019. The Yeezy brand — owned by West and licensed to Adidas — became a streetwear pillar and ushered in a new era of popular style. However, West’s insensitive comments and actions eventually overshadowed his artistic talent.

After the partnership ended, Adidas reported a $540 million loss in the fourth quarter of 2022, partially due to unsold Yeezy clothing and shoes. The company has also projected a total loss of $1.3 billion in “full-year revenue” for 2023 resulting from the unsold products.

N.O.R.E. Back Peddles From Comments On ‘Joe Budden Podcast,’ Responds To Cam’ron

It looks like NORE doesn’t want any podcast smoke. The Drink Champs co-host and rapper denies making fun of Cam’ron’s show on the Joe Budden Podcast.

As spotted on Complex, the Queens, New York native was almost caught in the crossfire between the Diplomats rapper and Joey Jumpoff. Last week Killa took to social media and posted a clip of the Drink Champs host talking rather greasy with Joe Budden about other rappers launching shows.

“You know what’s crazy? I’m looking at these rappers trying shows now—you know, rappers from our era—and they are so failing,” he said during the interview. “They doing sports shows, they doing comedy shows. They talkin’ about, ‘Yo, I’m up. I’m just doing this for fun.’ No, you are not!”

While N.O.R.E. did not put a name on the slander it was widely perceived that Cam was one of the “failed” rappers the two were poking fun at. Since then Killa’s sports show has gained incredible momentum and a cult following online. In an Instagram caption Cam’ron revealed that he is still cool with N.O. but referred to Joe Budden as a “crackhead”. This caused a rather spicy back and forth between Cam and Joe but it seems N.O.R.E. wants no parts of it.

“Me and you are friends from the 90s. You have my real life phone number. You hung out with me for days before you did Drink Champs just to make sure I was the same yalla that you know” N.O.R.E. wrote. “If you thought at any time I was going at you, Why would you go to the internet 1st?”

He also went on to say that he was not talking about Cam’ron in that “failed rappers” clip. “That footage from Joe Budden show is old footage. Ya show wasn’t created yet!!! I never saw a single footage of ya sh*t so there’s no way I could’ve been talking bout u !!!”

But under further investigation N.O.R.E.’s timing is way off. His appearance on the Joe Budden Podcast episode 600 was released in early February 2023 but Cam’ron had been promoting It Is What It Is on his Instagram since December of 2022. Cam has yet to respond to N.O.R.E.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again Becomes Youngest Artist to Score 100 Career Hot 100 Entries

YoungBoy Never Broke Again makes history on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated May 6), as he becomes the youngest artist in the chart’s history to tally 100 career Hot 100 hits.

The rapper adds his 100th total entry as “Big Truck” rolls in at No. 100. The song, released via Never Broke Again/Motown/Capitol Records, debuts with 6.6 million official U.S. streams April 21-27, according to Luminate. It’s on YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s new album Don’t Try This at Home, which debuts at No. 5 on the latest Billboard 200 with 60,000 equivalent album units, marking his 14th top 10.

YoungBoy is the 13th act the Hot 100’s nearly 65-year history to chart 100 or more entries, and the newest member of the club since Lil Baby joined in April 2022. Before that, Justin Bieber reached the milestone in 2021, after Chris Brown, Future and Taylor Swift in 2020.

At 23 years, six months and two weeks old, YoungBoy is, aptly, the youngest artist to ever score 100 entries at the time of achieving the feat. Lil Baby previously held the honor, then at 27 years, four months and two weeks. Bieber was the youngest before Lil Baby (27 years, four months and three weeks), as he surpassed Drake (28 years, 11 months and two weeks, in 2015).

Here’s an updated look at the 13 acts with 100 or more career entries on the Hot 100, which began on Aug. 4, 1958.

Total Billboard Hot 100 Hits:
294, Drake
207, Glee Cast
189, Taylor Swift
184, Lil Wayne
161, Future
141, Kanye West
134, Lil Baby
128, Nicki Minaj
114, Chris Brown
109, Elvis Presley
105, Jay-Z
105, Justin Bieber
100, YoungBoy Never Broke Again

As for who’s next in line after YoungBoy for the honor: Eminem (currently at 95 Hot 100 entries), The Weeknd (93), James Brown (91), Travis Scott (89), Lil Uzi Vert (86), Beyoncé, Young Thug (81 each), 21 Savage (79) and Juice WRLD (77).

Of YoungBoy’s 100 total entries, 12 have reached the top 40 and one has hit the top 10: “Bandit,” with Juice WRLD, peaked at No. 10 in 2019. YoungBoy first appeared on the Hot 100 dated Sept. 2, 2017, when his track “Untouchable” debuted and peaked at No. 95. He reached the top 40 for the first time in his fourth visit, with “Outside Today” in February 2018 (No. 31 peak).

Elvis Presley, whose career predates the Hot 100’s 1958 launch, was the first artist to achieve 100 hits on the survey. He reached the milestone in 1975 with “T-R-O-U-B-L-E,” which peaked at No. 35.

While it’s rare for artists to chart triple-digit entries on the Hot 100, it’s become a more regular occurrence since the ranking began including streaming figures (which make up the chart’s data mix with radio airplay and sales). As such, certain acts have been able to achieve high totals of Hot 100 hits after releasing high-profile albums. The model contrasts with prior decades, when acts generally promoted one single at a time in the physical-only marketplace and on radio. That shift in consumption helps explain why artists have been able to increase their career entry and top 10 totals over short spans in recent years.

How to Watch the 2023 Met Gala

It’s the first Monday in May, and for fashionistas and music lovers alike, that means one thing: the 2023 Met Gala has finally arrived.

As A-listers, designers, “it” girls and the assembled glitterati of New York City prepare to ascend the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the Upper East Side on Monday night (May 1), those of us not invited to the most exclusive event in fashion will be settling in to participate the only other way: tuning in to the red carpet and voraciously refreshing our social feeds in order to judge everyone’s looks like we’re all Miranda Priestley.

Just like the previous two years, the glitzy fashion parade will be live-streamed by Vogue on the fashion bible’s official website with commentary by LaLa Anthony, journalist Derek Blasberg and Chloe Fineman of Saturday Night Live fame, with Emma Chamberlain serving as Vogue‘s special correspondent for the evening. The carpet will also be broadcast on Vogue‘s YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter channels, with coverage kicking off at 6:30 p.m. ET.

The theme of this year’s gala — and subsequent exhibition inside the Anna Wintour Costume Center — is Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty, in honor of the late fashion designer who died in February 2019. While the interpretations of some dress codes in recent years have been known to serve up more “huh?” than haute couture, this year’s theme will give stars the perfect excuse to pay tribute to Lagerfeld (who famously turned his nose up at the very idea of nostalgia) in everything from Chanel and Fendi to vintage Balmain, Chloé and his own namesake fashion label.

Check out the Met Gala livestream below:
