Morgan Wallen Back on Stage After Giving Fans Health Update: ‘I’m Doing A Lot Better’

Morgan Wallen gave fans an update on his health status before Thursday night’s (May 4) show at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, FL one week after his last-minute concert cancellation angered fans when the singer canceled right before his headlining gig in Oxford, Mississippi.

“What’s up, everybody? I just wanted to let you know I am in Jacksonville, we are going to play a show tonight — and all weekend. I wouldn’t say I’m 100% but I’m doing a lot better,” Wallen said in an Instagram Story filmed at the venue according to People.

He then addressed the approximately 60,000 fans who’d gathered for his headlining show at Oxford, MS’s Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on April 23 who were left distraught after it was announced that Wallen would not be performing that night after openers HARDY, Ernest and Bailey Zimmerman had already played their sets.

“And to everyone in Oxford, I just wanted to reiterate how sorry I am for the way that went down,” he added. “I thought I was going to be good to go and I just wasn’t. We’re working on a rescheduled date — we are close to having a rescheduled date, I just don’t have the exact one yet. So as soon as I do, I’ll let you know. I appreciate you all and I can’t wait to get out onstage tonight. Love you all, thanks for all the support always. God bless you — see you soon.”

Wallen’s post came after fans at the Oxford show found out that the singer would not be performing just moments before his set was slated to begin. “Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight,” read a message on screens flanking the each side of the stadium stage. “Therefore, tonight’s show has been canceled. Please make your way safely to the stadium exits.”

After rumors circulated about the cause of the cancelation, Big Loud CEO Seth England shared a statement from event security company Best Crowd Management on April 25 that read, “A hired employee of BEST Crowd Management made false claims as it related to last night’s Morgan Wallen concert and we do not stand behind the detail in his statement. Please refer to Morgan’s social media pages for details.”

The statement came in reaction to a TikTok video of a security guard at Vaught Hemingway Stadium suggesting the real reason for the last-minute cancellation was that Wallen had been too drunk to perform.

England added his own statement, writing, “Thank you @bestcrowdmanagement for correcting your employee, who made up an entire story that was nowhere close to true. Every detail was false. Laughable what some people will just say for a reaction.” He concluded, “Don’t Believe Everything You Read.”

Wallen later rescheduled additional shows in Michigan, Illinois and Nebraska and told fans on social media, “Y’all know how important my fans are to me, so I feel horrible about this news. There’s nothing more I want to do than be onstage playing for you guys. But as of today, I’m on doctor-ordered vocal rest and we have to reschedule this week’s shows. I appreciate and understand everything you do to get to my shows, so it would be unfair of me to put on a show that I know will not be 100%. I’m doing everything I can to speed up the process of getting to that mark 100%–MW.”

Yeezy Shoes Still Stuck in Limbo After Adidas Split With Kanye West

It’s been nearly seven months since Adidas split with the rapper formerly known as Kanye West, and boxes of his popular Yeezy shoes are still piled up in warehouses.

The fate of 1.2 billion euros ($1.3 billion) worth of unsold Yeezy stock is weighing on the German sportswear company as it tries to engineer a turnaround from the loss of the lucrative sneaker line and the continued fallout over its former ties to Ye.

Adidas is “getting closer and closer to making a decision” on what do to with the sneakers and the “options are narrowing,” new CEO Bjorn Gulden said in a conference call Friday (May 5) after reporting 400 million euros ($441 million) in lost sales at the start of the year. But with “so many interested parties” involved in the discussions, no decision had yet been reached, he said.

Adidas is stuck with stacks of its flagship Yeezy brand shoes after ending its relationship with Ye in October over his antisemitic and other offensive comments on social media and in interviews.

Gulden, who became CEO in January after the Ye split, declined to say if destroying the shoes had been ruled out but that the company was “trying to avoid that.” He has previously said other options have drawbacks: selling the sneakers would mean paying royalties to Ye, restitching them to remove the brand identification would be dishonest, and giving them away to people in need could lead to resale because of their high market value.

Gulden would not say how many pairs of Yeezy shoes that Adidas is stuck holding “because then the consumer would know how many we have and that could have an impact on demand.”

Losing the Yeezy brand is “of course hurting us,” Gulden said in a statement. The breakup will reduce earnings by 500 million euros this year if Adidas decides not to sell the remaining Yeezy stock, the Herzogenaurach-based company said.

Net sales declined 1% in the first quarter, to 5.27 billion euros, and would have risen 9% with the Yeezy line, the company said. It reported a net loss of 24 million euros, a plunge from a profit of 310 million euros in the same period a year ago.

Operating profit, which excludes some items like taxes, was down to 60 million euros from 437 million euros a year earlier. Gulden said the results for the Adidas were “a little better than we had expected” as the company seeks to restart growth and move beyond the breakup with Ye. He called 2023 “a year of transition” on the way to “a better ’24 and a good ’25.”

The company faces other problems tied to the rapper. Investors sued Adidas a week ago in the U.S., alleging the company knew about Ye’s offensive remarks and harmful behavior years before the split and failed to take precautionary measures to limit financial losses.

The lawsuit — representing people who bought Adidas securities between May 3, 2018, and February 21, 2023 — pointed to 2018 comments where Ye suggested slavery was a “choice” and reports of Ye making antisemitic statements in front of Adidas staff.

The company said last week that it rejected “these unfounded claims and will take all necessary measures to vigorously defend ourselves against them.” Ending the Ye partnership also cost Adidas 600 million euros in lost sales in the last three months of 2022, helping drive the company to a net loss of 513 million euros.

An operating loss of 700 million euros is possible this year, Adidas said, mostly due to the 500 million-euro hit it would take if it doesn’t sell the existing Yeezy shoes.

Prince to Be Honored With Minnesota Highway Sign

The late pop superstar Prince will have a highway named after him in his home state, following a vote by Minnesota lawmakers Thursday (May 4).

The Senate vote was 55-5 to rename the highway that runs past Prince’s Paisley Park museum and studios. Among those watching was his oldest sister, Sharon Nelson. The bill passed the House unanimously last month on the seventh anniversary of Prince’s death, and now goes to Gov. Tim Walz, who is expected to sign.

Purple signs will soon go up along a seven-mile stretch of State Highway 5 in the Minneapolis suburbs of Chanhassen and Eden Prairie — designating it the Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway. Prince’s friends and fans are footing the bill, said the lead sponsor, Republican Sen. Julia Coleman, of Waconia.

“Prince was a true genius, a visionary artist who pushed the boundaries of music and cultures in ways that will never be forgotten,” Coleman told her fellow senators. “His influence can be heard in the work of countless musicians who came after him, and his legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists to this day.”

Paisley Park, where Prince lived and recorded, now draws visitors from around the world.

Paisley Park is also where Prince died on April 21, 2016, of an accidental fentanyl overdose at age 57. The 65,000-square-foot complex in Chanhassen is now a museum run by his estate as well as an event venue and recording studio.

Sharon Nelson told reporters her brother’s music will live forever, and that his spirit “sneaks up on me sometimes.” And she urged fans to take the tour and see his 3,000 shoes on display.

The idea to name the highway after Prince came three years ago from Mark Webster, a longtime friend of the star who works security at Paisley Park. He was among the fans who gathered at the Minnesota Capitol to celebrate the vote. He said they’ll find a date that works for fans soon for the signs to go up.

Prince’s birthday was June 7, but he didn’t celebrate birthdays because he was a Jehovah’s Witness.

The singer, songwriter, arranger and instrumentalist broke through in the late 1970s and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2004. He created hits including “Little Red Corvette,” ″Let’s Go Crazy” and “When Doves Cry,” and sold more than 100 million records worldwide.

Several years ago, Prince’s 1984 “Purple Rain” was added by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry.

After a six-year legal battle that consumed tens of millions of dollars, the Internal Revenue Service and the estate administrator put the value of his estate at $156.4 million. Since Prince died without a will, his six surviving siblings at the time of his death were designated as his heirs. The three youngest eventually sold most of their interests to the music company Primary Wave.

Lizzo Scraps Montreal Concert Due to Illness: ‘I think It’s The Flu’

Lizzo isn’t feeling special right now.

The celebrated singer scrapped her concert Thursday (May 4) at Montreal’s Centre Bell, due to illness.

It’s no ordinary sniffle. The Detroit native posted an apology on her socials just hours before showtime. “Montreal I’m so sorry but I physically cannot do the show. I promise we will honor your tickets,” reads her post on Instagram.

The award-winning singer also shared a video, in which she appears to be wrapped up in bed, with a mask over her face, clearly suffering.

After feeling unwell Wednesday night, she went to bed. “And I woke up this morning and its worse,” she remarks. “My body’s weak, and I have chills and my head hurts. Normally if it’s just a cold, I’d shower, I’ll eat, take some medicine and get better, but this is getting worse. I think it’s the flu. And I have to make the unfortunate decision to cancel today. I want to find a date to reschedule but I just can’t perform tonight. This is the second time I’ve had to cancel due to health in my entire career. And I will make it up to you, Montreal. So sorry.”

The next date on Lizzo’s current tour, in support of her 2022 LP Special, her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart, is set for Saturday (May 6) at the XL Center in Hartford, CT.

The trek has been action-packed. So far, she’s used the platform of her concerts to protest anti-LGBTQ+ laws in Tennessee with help from several queens from RuPaul’s Drag Race, designed a custom tattoo for a fan mid-show, danced in a bikini in front of the famous St. Louis Arch and more.

Earlier in the week, Lizzo made an appropriately dramatic entrance at the 2023 Met Gala, wearing a sleek updo which paid homage to Audrey Hepburn.

Ed Sheeran’s ‘Subtract’ Has Arrived: Stream It Now

Ed Sheeran‘s final album in his mathematics series, Subtract, is officially available to stream as of Friday (May 5).

Preceded by singles “Eyes Closed” and “Boat,” the album concludes a major chapter in Sheeran’s discography. Upon announcing the LP’s arrival, the British pop star revealed that its lyrical content and personal nature came as a result of personal tragedy in his life, namely his wife Cherry Seaborn developing a brain tumor while pregnant and his close friend Jamal Edwards passing away.

“I felt like I was drowning, head below the surface, looking up but not being able to break through for air. As an artist I didn’t feel like I could credibly put a body of work into the world that didn’t accurately represent where I am and how I need to express myself at this point in my life,” he wrote via Instagram on March 1.

He continued, “This album is purely that. It’s opening the trapdoor into my soul. For the first time I’m not trying to craft an album people will like, I’m merely putting something out that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life. This is last February’s diary entry and my way of making sense of it. This is Subtract.”

The standard edition of the album contains a total of 14 tracks, whilst the CD and deluxe vinyl editions of the album contain 18 and 23 songs respectively.

Subtract also notably arrives less than 24 hours after Sheeran was found not liable of copying the chord structure of Marvin Gaye‘s 1973 classic “Let’s Get It On” in his 2014 track, “Thinking Out Loud.”

Here Are the Top 10 Most-Watched Super Bowl Halftime Shows

While the Super Bowl is one of the biggest television events in the United States every year, the star-studded halftime show is often what gets the most online attention.

In 2023, Rihanna returned to the stage for the first time in more than five years to perform at Super Bowl LVII at Glendale, Ariz.’s State Farm Stadium, and the hype surrounding the performance led to a history making accomplishment. With 121.017 million viewers, RiRi’s performance narrowly surpassed Katy Perry’s 2015 performance as the most-watched halftime show of all time.

Rihanna’s achievement comes after Nielsen revised this year’s original 118.7 million viewers “after a review that revealed encoding irregularities as well as issues with out-of-home measurement,” according to the Associated Press. (The revised report regarding the Super Bowl LVII game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles also made this year’s football match the most-watched Super Bowl in history with 115.1 million viewers.)

Post Malone to Receive Hal David Starlight Award at 2023 Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala

Post Malone is slated to receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2023 Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner, which will be held Thursday, June 15, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York.

SHOF Chairman Nile Rodgers said in a statement, “Over the last few years I have had the pleasure of watching Posty become one of the biggest artists in the world and he’s done it by writing phenomenal songs. Way before Post Malone was a superstar, he was a great songwriter, and this is his first step into the Songwriters Hall of Fame!”

According to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Hal David Starlight Award recipients are “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs.” The award is meant as a balance to the Johnny Mercer Award, which is a career capper for a legendary writer. Tim Rice is this year’s winner of the Johnny Mercer Award.

Post Malone is the third recipient of the Starlight Award who hails from the world of hip-hop, following Drake, the 2011 recipient, and Lil Nas X, who received the honor last year.

Post Malone, a Universal Music Publishing Group writer, has amassed 10 Grammy nominations – though he has yet to win. His nominations include three consecutive nods for record of the year, for “Rockstar” (featuring 21 Savage), “Sunflower” (a collab with Swae Lee) and “Circles.” The latter song was also nominated for song of the year – Post Malone’s only songwriting nod to date. Posty (real name: Austin Post) co-wrote that silky smash with Louis Bell, Adam Feeney, Kaan Gunesberk and Billy Walsh. He has also nabbed two album of the year nods for beerbongs & bentleys and Hollywood’s Bleeding.

“Rockstar,” “Sunflower” and “Circles” all reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as did “Psycho” (featuring Ty Dolla $ign). Both of the aforementioned albums had long runs at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Inductees at the 52nd Songwriters Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Dinner are Glen Ballard, Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan, Jeff Lynne, Teddy Riley and Liz Rose. (Sade Adu had to defer her induction due to a schedule change.)

Songwriters become eligible for SHOF induction 20 years after their first song gained wide exposure. None of the Starlight honorees (see complete list below) have yet been inducted, but many are expected to be as they reach that two-decade mark.

The Starlight Award is named in honor of Hal David, who teamed with Burt Bacharach to write dozens of pop hits from the late ‘50s to the early ‘70s. Bacharach and David were elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972 and received the Johnny Mercer Award in 1996. Their 1965 classic, “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” received the organization’s Towering Song award in 2004. It was voted into the National Recording Registry this year.

Bacharach and David received a trustees award from the Recording Academy in 1997. In 2012, they became the first songwriting team to win the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

David was chairman of the Songwriters Hall of Fame from 2000-10, and served as chairman emeritus from 2010 until his death in 2012. He was awarded the organization’s first Visionary Leadership Award in 2011.

Net proceeds from the event will go toward the Songwriters Hall of Fame programs. Songwriters Hall of Fame is a 501(c)3 organization. Contributions are fully tax-deductible as provided by law. For a minute now, Cordae’s been establishing himself as one of the nicest MC’s of this generation and while Hip-Hop legends like Jadakiss and Nas have given the young’n his flowers, Cordae is prepared to branch out of the states and conquer foreign land to expand his reach.

Heading overseas and becoming familiar with the homeland of his baby mama (Naomi Osaka), Cordae takes in the views and sites of Japan in his visuals to “The Water” and roams the streets of Tokyo where he takes pics with the locals and hits up some clothing spots for exclusive attire. If this was the early 2000s he would’ve came back with hella pairs of BAPE’s.

Back in Detroit, Dej Loaf decides to roll through her hometown and in her clip to “100 Million” she hitches a ride on top of a whip before hitting the streets with her torch wielding peoples. We don’t care what y’all think, camouflage pants on women are sexy. Just sayin’.
