Tool Announces Dates For 2023 North American Fall Tour

Tool are hitting the road this fall. The prog rockers announced the dates for a North American tour on Tuesday morning (June 6), including their first Canadian shows since 2019. The fall outing will compliment the band’s previously announced summer festival gigs with six weeks of new non-fest shows slated to kick off on Oct. 3 in Loveland, CO at the Budweiser Event Center.

The two-month fall outing will include gigs in Salt Lake City, Spokane, Portland, Vancouver, Calgary, St. Paul, Milwaukee, Boston, Philadelphia and Montreal before wrapping up with a pair of shows on Nov. 20-21 at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

Tickets for all the non-festival shows will go on sale on Friday (June 9) at 10 a.m. local time, with additional Tool Army memberships recently opened up; exclusive pre-sale tickets for members will go on sale at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday (June 8). The band — who are touring in support of what was their first full-length release in 13 years, 2019’s album Fear Inoculum — will kick off the run on Sept. 22 with a slot at the Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, KY and also play the Aftershock Festival on Oct. 6 in Sacramento, CA and the hard rock desert superfest Power Trip on Oct. 8 in Indio, CA.

Singer Maynard James Keenan made news last month when he wore what appeared to be drag during a set at Daytona Beach’s Welcome to Rockville Festival, that seemed at first to be a reaction to the series of controversial bills signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis recently that ban minors from attending drag shows. But the vocalist who often wears women’s clothes and bizarre costumes on stage later said the choice was personal, not political.

“I’ve been cross-dressing since long before these clickbait-junkie dupes were out of diapers,” he told The Messenger. “And that’s really all there is to it. I’m not a political fella — had nothing to do with Florida.”

Sam Smith Shares ‘Really Positive News’ About Vocal Issues That Caused Show Cancelation

Sam Smith had some good news for fans this weekend about the vocal cord issues that caused the singer to unexpectedly exit a show in Manchester early last month. “I’ve just come back from the doctors today. It’s actually really positive news. My vocal cords are healing, and after a week of vocal rest, it’s looking good,” Smith said in an Instagram video on Saturday that has since gone away. “It’s looking like I’m going to be OK for the rest of the shows, and that’s really amazing news.”

Smith exited his gig at the Manchester AO Arena on May 24 after just four songs, telling Sailors at the time, “I don’t know what to say honestly. I fought off a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have travelled across Europe and had such incredible shows,” speaking of the issues that have dogged them on the tour in support of their Gloria album.

In their latest post, Smith apologized to fans who bought tickets for canceled shows in Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow, saying the issue was “completely out of my control. I’ll be doing everything I can to get back to you guys as soon as I can. I’ll keep you updated moving forward but thank you again.” At press time the shows had not yet been rescheduled.

Smith’s next scheduled tour date is a July 5 gig at the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, followed by a North American tour slated to launch with a July 26 gig in Miami at AmericanAirlines Arena.

“We’re particularly excited about this year’s lineup,” said Tom Poleman, chief programming officer for iHeartMedia, in a press statement. “This is the only festival in the world with this range of genres – spanning all the styles you hear on our 860 stations and the iHeartRadio app. Each performer can sell out on their own, so it’s incredibly rare that you can see them all together on the same stage.”

For the first time this year, the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Festival will broadcast live on Hulu for those who can’t make the event in person. As usual, the festival can also be enjoyed via iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the country.

Capital One cardholders will have access to presale tickets for the iHeartRadio Music Festival beginning June 14 at 1 p.m. ET through June 16 at 1 p.m. ET. Capital One cardholders can also add a Capital One Access Pass when purchasing presale tickets, which includes access to a private soundcheck performance by Fall Out Boy, plus complimentary food, drinks and more. Tickets go on sale to the general public on June 16 on AXS.com.

Lewis Capaldi Apologizes to Fans After Canceling Euro Shows Before Glastonbury Slot: ‘I Need to Take a Moment to Rest’

Lewis Capaldi apologized to fans in a lengthy Instagram post on Monday (June 5) in which he revealed that he’s taking the next two weeks off to spend time at home with his family in the lead-up to the Glastonbury Festival later this month. Capaldi, 26, regretted to inform them that he was canceling upcoming planned shows in Glasgow, Dublin, London and Norway in the coming weeks to “rest and recover.”

“This is a really difficult message and one that hurts me a lot to have to type. But I’m really sorry to say that I’m going to have to cancel all commitments from now until I play Glastonbury,” he wrote of the festival that takes place from June 21-25 at Worthy Farm, with Capaldi slated to take the stage on the 24th. “It’s been such an incredible time leading into this new album, and seeing all of the support from everyone has been beyond anything I could have ever dreamed of,” he added.

“That said, the last few months have been full on both mentally and physically, I haven’t been home properly since Christmas and at the moment I’m struggling to get to grips with it all. I need to take a moment to rest and recover, to be at my best and ready for Glastonbury and all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I’m able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come.”

Capaldi, who has bee touring in support of his Broken By Desire to Be Heavenly Sent album — which just notched a second week atop the U.K. album charts — said he needs to take some time over the next few weeks to be “Lewis from Glasgow for a bit,” and spend time with his family and friends and “do normal life things that are an important part of me feeling better. I hope everyone understands.”

The “Wish You the Best” singer has spoken in the past about the impact of fame on his mental health as well as his struggles with Tourette’s syndrome and panic attacks related to his rapid rise to the top of the charts, which were chronicled in his Netflix documentary Lewis Capaldi: How I’m Feeling Now.

The singer lamented the cost to fans who spent money on tickets, travel and hotels to the scotched shows, “which I appreciate more than ever with how difficult things are economically,” he wrote. “So I’m extremely sorry for the impact this will have,” he added. “The fact that you’re willing to come out and spend your time, money and love on these shows is beyond comprehension and I feel incredibly lucky.”

Lewis concluded by assuring fans that he’s getting “all the help and support” he needs from his team at this time. “I take none of this for granted and can’t wait to be back doing it again.”

Oztix Celebrates 20th Anniversary, Presents Acquisition of Local Tickets

BRISBANE, Australia — Twenty years after its launch in a red-hot entertainment market, Oztix, Australia’s biggest independent ticketer, just got bigger with the acquisition of Local Tickets.

With immediate effect, Local Tickets, a smaller, rival ticketing agency specializing in local events across the country, is rebranded to Localtix. And as part of the arrangement, all Local Tickets employees join its new parent, while founder and CEO Kristen Goldup is appointed as brand director across Oztix and Localtix.

Also, Oztix events will be populated across 70 local ticket marketplaces, expanding the marketing potential for events ticketed by Oztix.

“Our brands and product offerings are entirely complementary, and after just one meeting with Oztix, it was clear that we had great synergy and shared a mutual culture of putting our clients first,” comments Goldup, who founded the agency in 2011. “My Local Tickets clients will benefit greatly from access to a new collaborative platform, and even more eyeballs will be on our local tickets marketplace websites with Oztix events being listed”.

Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Currently, Oztix handles ticketing for venues, festivals and expos such as Big Red Bash, Crafted Beer & Cider Festival, Good Things Festival, and Summernats, while the new addition to its ranks works across a range of agricultural shows, rodeos, turf clubs, hospitality events and more.

Oztix presented its new family members with a celebratory lunch Tuesday (June 6) at its Woolloongabba headquarters, close to Brisbane’s Gabba stadium and timed to coincide with the annual Queensland Day.

“At any given time,” Oztix commercial director Seth Clancy told industry guests, “the business boasts 4,000 events on sale across the country across both platforms.” Prior to the acquisition, Oztix sold close to 3 million tickets each year.

Now, the enlarged group employs 50 full-time staff and hundreds of casual staff at events around the country, notes Oztix co-founder Stuart Field. Each year, millions are pumped into technology and innovation, he explained, a sometimes painful but essential outlay “to evolve with the way technology is changing.”

Co-founder Brian “Smash” Chladil recounted the business’ first steps, starting out under his house in Toowong, in Brisbane’s inner west, and landing contracts with mega-festivals Big Day Out, Soundwave and Falls.

“The next 20 years are looking great,” he explains, “we’re growing because our clients are growing, we’re growing because we win new business and mainly because we don’t lose business.”

Guests at Oztix’s “launch and lunch” included QMusic president Natalie Strijland and CEO Kris Stewart; Fortitude Music Hall and The Triffid venue director John “JC” Collins, former bass player with Powderfinger; Vicki Gordon, founding executive producer and program director of the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA); and Shane King, state member of parliament for Kurwongbah.

Australia’s ticketing industry is dominated by the big two, Live Nation affiliate Ticketmaster, and TEG-owned Ticketek. Oztix expands as a new player arrives on these shores in AEG-owned ticketer AXS, led by venue management professional and former Gold Cost Suns chief Andrew Travis as CEO of AXS Australia and New Zealand.

Dave And Central Cee’s ‘Sprinter’ Racing to U.K.

Dave and Central Cee’s “Sprinter” is doing as its title suggests, as the British hip-hop collaboration leads the U.K. chart race.

The fresh cut leads the midweek chart on debut, and is set to become Dave’s third U.K. No. 1, and Central Cee’s first.

“Sprinter” (via Live Yours/Neighbourhood) marks the first creative partnership between the London rap acts, and it just might have the muscle to dislodge Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s “Miracle,” which has logged eight non-consecutive weeks at No. 1.

Based on midweek sales and streaming data published by the Official Charts Company, “Miracle” (Columbia) is set to dip 1-2.

A raft of singles are poised to rise in the top ten for new peaks, including Switch Disco and Ella Henderson’s “React” (up 5-3 via Relentless) and Jazzy’s “Giving Me” (up 6-4 via Chaos), while Rudimental, Charlotte Plank and Vibe Chemistry could enter the top tier for the first time with “Dancing Is Healing” (up 11-8 via Room Two).

Kylie Minogue could be spinning around when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published this Friday (June 9). The Australian pop veteran’s catchy electro-pop number “Padam Padam” is on the brink of cracking the top 10, lifting 24-11 on the Official Chart Update. If it heats up in the second half of the week, it would be Minogue’s first U.K. top 10 single since 2011’s “Higher” with Taio Cruz, which peaked at No. 8.

Also on the way up is Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” from the forthcoming Barbie movie, which bowed at No. 20 last Friday. It’s on the climb to No. 14 on the chart blast.

Finally, The Weeknd’s “Popular” (Republic Records/XO) with Playboi Carti and Madonna is targeting the top 20. It’s new at No. 20 on the midweek survey. The new number from the pop-rap collab is lifted from The Idol, the Weeknd’s new HBO show starring himself and Lily-Rose Depp and premiering last Sunday, June 4.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Foo Fighters In Tight U.K. Chart Race

A clash of the titans is playing out in the U.K., as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds goes head-to-head with Foo Fighters for top spot.

Based on midweek sales and streaming data published by the Official Charts Company, Gallagher’s Council Skies (via Sour Mash) has the edge. It’s a wafer-thin margin. The Foos’ But Here We Are (Columbia) is just 200 combined units behind, for second place on the Official Chart Update.

Gallagher scores U.K. No. 1s for fun. He’s enjoyed an unbroken streak of 10 consecutive No. 1 studio albums, across his career with Oasis (seven) and with High Flying Birds (three). No other individual has a more impressive track record. Furthermore, every one of Gallagher’s studio LPs has debuted at No. 1.

The Foos, meanwhile, have led the Official Chart with five albums, including their most recent effort, 2021’s Medicine At Midnight.

But Here We Are represents a new chapter for Dave Grohl’s band, which is still grieving the sudden death last year of drummer Taylor Hawkins.

There’s a touch of beef to this chart race. As the OCC points out, during the Foos’ set at the 2019 Reading Festival, Grohl told the crowd that he wanted to start a petition to get Oasis to reunite. That apparently didn’t sit well with Gallagher, who, during a subsequent concert in San Diego, joked with his audience: “Is anyone gonna sign that petition Dave Grohl wants to get together to get us back together?… I’d like to start a petition to get the Foo Fighters to split up”.

The midweek U.K. podium is completed by Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Hana (Cooking Vinyl), new at No. 3, for what could be the English pop artist’s fifth top 10 LP, and highest charting title since 2002 debut Read My Lips hit No. 2.

Meanwhile, Bob Dylan’s Shadow Kingdom (Sony Music CG), a collection of rerecorded songs from early in the legendary songsmith’s career, could start at No. 4.

Also eyeing top ten berths are British pop veteran Louise’s career retrospective Greatest Hits (No. 6 via BMG), Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears’s second solo set Last Man Dancing (No. 7 via Mute), and American heavy metal act Avenged Sevenfold’s eighth studio album Life Is But A Dream… (No. 8 via Warner Records).

All will be revealed when the Official Chart is published late Friday (June 9).

‘Black Ink Crew’ Recap: Puma & Teddy Choose Their New Crew, Alex Continues To Waste Nychelle’s Time

Puma and Teddy continue carrying the Black Ink torch without Ceaser and have narrowed the search for their new artists. The old artists are busy fraternizing with each other, and that could lead to some issues.

And Then There Were Eight

Last week, Puma and Teddy held a “mixer” to meet a gang of potential artists they could bring into the Black Ink brand when they move into their new shop.

This week’s episode opens up with Puma and Teddy going over their potential new artists, and after some discussions, the Black Ink OGs settle on eight of those artists to fill the booths at the new location they have not gotten yet.

Even after locking in the eight artists, there is still some doubt about the mission, and Puma links up with FUBU founder and successful entrepreneur and Shark Tank creator Daymond John. He preaches to Puma that Black Ink is more than just tattoos; it’s a brand, a much bigger movement. John also says that Puma and Teddy must continue to have a firm hold on the Black tattoo culture.

After talking with John, Puma realizes what he must do and decides to book a nice mansion to house the eight artists, where they will put to the tests to see if they are worthy of repping the Black Ink brand. If not, they will be sent home swiftly.

Finding new artists won’t be the only issue. There is still that lingering of Teddy’s criminal record hanging over his head, which he learns will take about 6-8 months to get rid of, which could impact him putting his name down on the new shop’s lease.

Nychelle Is Not Here For Alex’s Games

No longer dealing with Big Mama and becoming a proud amateur porn star, aka OnlyFans creator, Alex has sites on arguably the best-looking Black Ink Crew NYC cast member, Nychelle.

For plot lines sake, we are tolerating this, and Alex, for whatever reason, is playing games with Nychelle, and she is not here for it. Nychelle is all about her business and wants to be successful for herself and her son, and Alex seems to be playing games.

Nychelle is confused because Alex did many things, like come to Houston to see and spend time with her, but his recent behavior at the mixer says otherwise regarding his intentions with her.

Alex is fresh out of his three-year relationship with Donna and is not ready to get into another relationship, and basically wants his cake and ice cream when it comes to Nychelle, but he doesn’t want a relationship.

After a sushi date, Nychelle and Alex further prove they are not on the same page. Alex is not here for Nychelle’s “jealousy,” and Nychelle is not feeling the games Alex is playing.

Alex’s feelings change when he sees Nychelle interacting with other men during a speed dating event he put together for Rok. He tells his coworker he likes her a lot, and the two leave together.

You can see more reactions to the episode in the gallery below.

Sprite Launches Summer Campaign With Nas, Rakim, Latto and GloRilla

HipHopWired Featured Video

Sprite Summer Campaign 2023 x Lymonade Legacy x Hip-Hop @ 50

Sprite has been a central proponent of Hip-Hop music and culture dating back to the 1980s and that synergy remains true more than almost four decades later. As Hip-Hop celebrates its 50th anniversary this summer, Sprite launched a new campaign last week featuring notable figures Rakim, Nas, Latto, and GloRilla.

Sprite first joined forces with Hip-Hop back in 1986 with a commercial spot with Kurtis Blow and over the years worked alongside the likes of Grand Puba, A Tribe Called Quest, Missy Elliott, LL Cool J, and others.

For its summer campaign, Long Island, N.Y. legend Rakim, Queensbridge lyricist Nas, Georgia’s Latto, and rising Memphis star GloRilla all appear in a new spot for the popular soft drinks brand. The commercial runs concurrently with the release of a limited-edition flavor and the sponsorship of a concert tour along with merch drops and fan experience opportunities.

Using an interpolation of The Sugarhill Gang’s classic “Rapper’s Delight” track, the quartet runs through their bars paying homage to the culture that pays them with plenty of shots of Sprite featured in the commercial.

A.P. Chaney, Creative Director for Sprite North America, said the brand’s longstanding hip-hop credentials are unmatched.

“Our resume speaks for itself,” A.P. Chaney, Creative Director for Sprite North America., said. “Sprite took a chance on hip-hop before it was cool, and has always been of the culture, not only for the culture. We’ve shown up for both moments big and small, amplifying the endless possibilities of the now-omnipresent hip-hop lifestyle and its profound impact on music, sports and fashion. So, it’s only fitting that we pay homage to all hip-hop has been, is and will be.”

Well said.

Keeping with the theme of the campaign, the brand remixed its original flavor with the drop of its limited-edition Lymonade Legacy, a blast of strawberry lemonade that still retains that crisp bite of flavor. At 7-Eleven, the Lymonade Legacy is an exclusive fountain drink and frozen drink flavor.

Sprite Summer Campaign 2023 x Lymonade Legacy x Hip-Hop @ 50

Fans of the original and new fans of Lymonade Legacy will both feature new designs coinciding with the birth of Hip-Hop. QR codes will appear on the beverage offerings over the summer for fans to enter online “Drop Shops” complete with giveaways and other content that showcase a creative nod from the artists mentioned in the summer campaign.

“Our “Summer of Drops” focuses on our fans’ passion points — music, fashion, art and entertainment — and draws inspiration from sneakerhead drop culture,” Aaliyah Shafiq Ely, VP, Sparkling Flavors Category, added in a comment. “The diverse array of prizes offers something for everyone to get excited about, and our overall campaign is the latest example of Sprite responding to what fans want with both experiences and products.”

Some of those experiences and products include meet-and-greet tickets for Drake’s “It’s All A Blur” and lifetime passes to the Rolling Loud festivals. For Drake, this marks the 11th year since he’s partnered with Sprite, and his tour is his first such outing in five years.

Troye Sivan Talks About Working With Lily-Rose Depp & Jennie on HBO’s ‘The Idol,’ New Music & More | Billboard News

Troye Sivan talks about working with Lily-Rose Depp and Jennie from Blackpink on HBO’s ‘The Idol,’ his upcoming new music, and more!

Tetris Kelly:
HBO’s exciting new show ‘The Idol’ has arrived featuring The Weekend, Lily-Rose Depp, Jennie of Blackpink, Troye Sivan and more. And I’m excited to have Troye with me on the show today. Hey, Troye!

Troye Sivan:
Hi, Tetris.

Tetris Kelly:
Good to see you again, man.

Troye Sivan:
Good to see you too. What’s going on?

Tetris Kelly:
Well, I am loving this show and your character is a role. A lot of us pop culture aficionados wish we had and a pop star’s life.

Troye Sivan:
Like, when was the last truly f—ing nasty, nasty, bad pop girl?

Tetris Kelly:
How was it to live our dream, man?

Troye Sivan:
I mean, it was really fun. I know a few creative directors, I’ve dated a few. So I know them really well. I am also fully that person. I catch myself now. Like, you know, on the press tour, for example, Lily’s just like looking unbelievable at all times, of course. And so I’m like, you know, like the gay best friend. It’s like taking a million pictures of her all the time. I think that is just like a very natural role for me to slip into.
