Live Entertainment Veteran Steve Kirsner Joins Venue Coalition as VP of Booking

Entertainment consulting company Venue Coalition has hired veteran entertainment executive Steve Kirsner as vp of booking. In his new role, Kirsner will focus on servicing the company’s 150+ member venues across North America, assisting them with national and regional booking as well as doing advocacy work for the national touring industry.

The addition of Kirsner comes on the heels of several new arenas joining Venue Coalition as members over the past few months. They include Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., and its sister venue EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Va.; Agganis Arena in Boston; Great Southern Bank Arena in Springfield, Mo.; John F. Savage Arena in Toledo, Ohio; Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla.; and Mexico City’s Pepsi Center WTC.

“I’m excited to join the team at Venue Coalition,” said Kirsner, who most recently served as vp of booking & events at SAP Center at San Jose, Calif. “As a former venue client and member of Venue Coalition, I have intimate knowledge of how valuable their services are to independent venues. I’m eager to get started and represent so many members, many of whom I call friends, and to assist as we drive more first-class content into their buildings and help them navigate the touring landscape.”

Kirsner’s 47-year career runs deep in the live entertainment industry. He spent a decade as an integral part of magician Doug Henning’s team, working his way up to vp/GM of Henning’s company where he was responsible for all aspects of the magician’s business. In the early ’90s, Kirsner left Los Angeles to begin producing tours, music videos and special events for Mannheim Steamroller in Omaha, Nebr., where the group was based. Looking to return to California, in 1996 Steve took on the role of director, and then vp of booking & events, at SAP Center at San Jose (formerly San Jose Arena, Compaq Center and HP Pavilion), where he would remain for over two and a half decades. Booking the arena under the mentorship and leadership of Frank Jirik and Jim Goddard, it eventually became one of the top twenty venues in the United States for ticket sales.

“We are so excited to bring Steve onboard,” said Venue Coalition president Andrew Prince. “He has decades of extensive operational and programming experience running one of the most successful venues in the country. We welcome his expertise and passion for this industry and know his strong relationships and stellar reputation will be a great benefit to our organization.”

Consequence Defends Former Ye Publicist Indicted in Georgia

The former publicist for Ye aka Kanye West indicted in the Georgia election case involving former President Donald Trump has a friend in Consequence.

As Trevian Kutti surrendered to officials at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia last Friday (August 25th), many were struck by her smiling mugshot given the seriousness of being one of Trump’s co-conspirators in trying to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential Election. But Consequence, who got to know Kutti as she worked with Ye and Chance The Rapper, said in an interview that it’s just part of her pleasant demeanor.

“She was always cool, I never got shady vibes from her…solid Black woman,” the Queens rapper said of the publicist. “That’s why I left a comment on one of the pages saying, “Free her until she’s free”. He would elaborate about her working with Ye back then. “I don’t know what her official title was, I know that [publicist] is what people have thrown out there.” He also complimented her and Trump for having the best mugshots out of the group that has been charged by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office.

Consequence did hint that Kutti’s political background might have affected her current situation. “There have been an array of personalities that have been around us in a working capacity. When you’ve had the run we’ve had, you’re gonna run into everybody. I don’t know if her business with Ye is what bled into what is being alleged at this point.”

Kutti is accused of intimidating former Fulton County election worker Ruby Freeman to compel her to alter her testimony about what happened during election night at the State Farm Arena where a ballot processing center was stationed. She as well as the other defendants including former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, and Rudy Giuliani were released on bond with the exception of Harrison Floyd who remains incarcerated.

The “Grammy Family” rapper did mention his latest project Who Shot Jamal in the interview and also dropped a hint that Ye could make a sudden entry into the 2024 presidential discussion. “We’re gonna keep the main thing the main thing, but we’ve always been the disruptors, and nothing’s gonna change about that.”

7 Biggest Revelations From Ariana Grande’s ‘Yours Truly’ Q&A: Album Covers, New Makeup & More

It’s been 10 years since Ariana Grande emerged as an angel-voiced pop star with her debut record Yours Truly, transforming seemingly overnight from Nickelodeon star to full-blown force to be reckoned with on the charts.

And in celebration of the album’s very first double-digit anniversary, the 30-year-old pop star planned a full week’s worth of surprises for fans who’ve been supporting her since the very beginning. These include a 10th anniversary special edition of Yours Truly, complete with newly recorded live versions of six of the album’s tracks — which Grande also filmed live performances of in London — merch capsules and behind-the-scenes footage. The most revealing part of Yours Truly’s anniversary, though, has been Grande’s two special Q&A videos on TikTok, in which she revealed memories, favorite moments and upcoming projects related to her 2013 LP.

“Happy 10 years of Yours Truly,” she told fans at the beginning of the Q&A, sitting in a corner of the farmhouse where she filmed the six live performances. “Thank you … for supporting me every step along the way, accepting me, loving me, allowing for humanness and everything. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

The star went on to candidly answer questions submitted by fans via Twitter, opening up about writing, recording and releasing Yours Truly (which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200), all while starring as Cat Valentine on Victorious. She also touched on the most important things she learned in the process, making revelations about things she’d do differently today.

“Thanks for being along for the ride, and for being here,” Grande later added. “I’m so grateful for all of you, and how f–king crazy has it been these ten years? So much has happened. So much has happened. So much. Has. Happened.”

Here are seven of the biggest revelations from Grande’s Yours Truly Q&As. (You can check out her full responses on TikTok here and here.)

Oliver Anthony Music’s ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ Notches Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100

Oliver Anthony Music’s viral hit “Rich Men North of Richmond” spends a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. A week earlier, the song rocketed in on top, making the singer-songwriter the first artist ever to launch atop the survey with no prior chart history in any form. It now takes over as the most-streamed song of the week, continues as the top-selling track and is gaining in radio airplay.

Plus, Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” jumps from No. 15 to No. 5 on the Hot 100, marking her seventh career top 10.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data, the lattermost metric reflecting purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers; digital singles sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites are excluded from chart calculations. All charts (dated Sept. 2, 2023) will update on Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 29). For all chart news, you can follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram.

“Rich Men North of Richmond” drew 22.9 million streams (up 31%) and sold 117,000 downloads (down 20%) in the Aug. 18-24 tracking week, according to Luminate. Not being promoted to radio, the song also tallied 2.3 million airplay audience impressions (up 310%).

The single logs a second week at No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart and surges 4-1 on Streaming Songs. Notably, it makes a rare second-week gain in streams for a No. 1-debuting Hot 100 hit: Of the 34 songs to premiere atop the Hot 100 this decade, it’s just the second to increase in streams (17.5 million to 22.9 million) in its second week, following Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” (43.2 million to 62.7 million) on the charts dated May 29-June 5, 2021 – and Rodrigo’s hit was boosted by the No. 1 Billboard 200 arrival of her debut album, Sour.

As previously reported, “Richmond” also debuts on Country Airplay at No. 45, with 90% of its overall airplay (2 million of 2.3 million in reach) from the chart’s panel of reporting stations.

“Richmond” has become a lightning rod for both the right and left politically since its official release Aug. 11, even spurring the opening talking point in the first Republican presidential primary debate last Wednesday, Aug. 23. (“The one thing that has bothered me is seeing people wrap politics up into this,” Anthony responded in a YouTube clip.)

The track by the Farmville, Va.-based singer-songwriter and former factory worker, born Christopher Anthony Lunsford (whose stage name honors his grandfather, Oliver Anthony), first drew buzz online, including on TikTok, where he boasts 2.1 million followers (up from 1.5 million a week ago), prior to its Aug. 11 posting on the radiowv YouTube account, which spotlights unsigned Americana and country acts in the Virginia/West Virginia region.

“Richmond” concurrently tops Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, which uses the same methodology as the Hot 100, for a second week.

The song has also, unsurprisingly, sparked the curiosity of chart fans. Jesper Tan, of Subang Jaya, Malaysia, wrote in noting that Oliver Anthony Music is just the second act with “music” in its name to top the Hot 100, following C+C Music Factory with “Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)” in 1991. Tan also shouts out the two No. 1s with “music” in their titles: “Play That Funky Music,” by Wild Cherry, in 1976 and “Music,” by Madonna, in 2000.

Plus, Jeff Lerner points out that “Richmond” is only the eighth Hot 100 No. 1 to name-check a U.S. city in its title (two are odes to Philadelphia), and the first since 1985:

  • “Rich Men North of Richmond,” Oliver Anthony Music (2023)
  • “Miami Vice Theme,” Jan Hammer (1985)
  • “Philadelphia Freedom,” Elton John (1975)
  • “The Night Chicago Died,” Paper Lace (1974)
  • “T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia),” MFSB (1974)
  • “El Paso,” Marty Robbins (1960)
  • “The Battle of New Orleans,” Johnny Horton (1959)
  • “Kansas City,” Wilbert Harrison (1959)

(Lerner adds that The Monkees’ “Last Train to Clarksville,” from 1966, “is not on this list as lyricist Bobby Hart has insisted that he wrote the song about a fictional town, not the real city of Clarksville, Tenn.” Meanwhile, Baauer’s 2013 No. 1 “Harlem Shake” also doesn’t count, as Harlem is a neighborhood in New York City. The last city at all named in the title of a Hot 100 No. 1 prior to “Richmond”? Cuba’s capital, as Camila Cabello’s “Havana,” featuring Young Thug, led in 2018.)

Luke Combs’ cover of Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car” posts a seventh week at its No. 2 Hot 100 high, where it’s steady in rank, and Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” holds at No. 3, following 16 weeks at No. 1 – the most ever for a non-collaboration. Thanks to “Richmond,” “Fast Car” and “Last Night,” country hits (as defined by those that have hit Hot Country Songs) claim the Hot 100’s top three spots in a single week for only the third time, following the same songs a week earlier and Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town,” “Last Night” and “Fast Car,” at Nos. 1, 2 and 3, respectively, on the Hot 100 dated Aug. 5.

“Last Night,” meanwhile, tops Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart for a 13th week, having led each week since the list returned.

Taylor Swift’s “Cruel Summer” keeps at No. 4 on the Hot 100, after reaching No. 3.

Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red” roars 15-5 on the Hot 100, with 22.6 million in airplay audience (up 37%), 21.1 million streams (up 49%) and 5,000 sold (up 81%), as it takes top Streaming and Sales Gainer honors.

The song, which debuted at No. 15 on the Hot 100 two weeks earlier and has since ridden a wave of virality on TikTok, becomes Doja Cat’s seventh top 10, following “Vegas” (No. 10 peak, October 2022); Post Malone’s “I Like You (A Happier Song),” on which she’s featured (No. 3, October 2022); “Woman” (No. 7, May 2022); “Need To Know” (No. 8, November 2021); “Kiss Me More,” featuring SZA (No. 3, July 2021); and “Say So,” featuring Nicki Minaj (No. 1, one week, May 2020).

Meanwhile, “Paint the Town Red” samples Dionne Warwick’s standard “Walk on By,” which hit No. 6 on the Hot 100 in 1964. Thanks to its inclusion, legendary late songwriters Burt Bacharach and Hal David appear in the Hot 100’s top 10 for the first time since Twista’s “Slow Jamz,” featuring Kanye West and Jamie Foxx, reigned for a week in 2004; that song samples Luther Vandross’ cover of Warwick’s fellow 1964 release “A House Is Not a Home.”

Bacharach, who passed away Feb. 8, wrote seven Hot 100 No. 1s, which reigned in four distinct decades (the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s and 2000s). David died in 2012. Notably, the Songwriters Hall of Fame annually presents (this year to Post Malone) the Hal David Starlight Award, which, according to the organization, is given to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry with their original songs.”

“Paint the Town Red” concurrently bounds to the top of the multi-metric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (5-1) and Hot Rap Songs (4-1) charts. Doja Cat earns her second No. 1 on the former, following “Say So,” and her first on the latter list.

Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” descends 5-6, after reaching No. 3, on the Hot 100, as it claims a 10th week atop the Radio Songs chart (83.5 million, down 3%). It tops the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart for a 52nd week, extending the longest command since the ranking began over a year ago.

Gunna’s “Fukumean” repeats at No. 7 on the Hot 100, after hitting No. 4, and Olivia Rodrigo’s “Vampire” falls 6-8, after it debuted as her third No. 1 in July.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10 are two hits from the soundtrack Barbie: The Album: Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” dips 8-9, after reaching No. 7, although it wins the chart’s top Airplay Gainer award (57.7 million, up 16%), and Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World,” with Aqua, descends 9-10, also after climbing to No. 7.

Again, for all chart news, you can follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram and all charts (dated Sept. 2), including the Hot 100 in its entirety, will refresh on Billboard.com tomorrow (Aug. 29).

Luminate, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes a thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling the weekly chart rankings. Megan Thee Stallion is back outside for the first time after the Tory Lanez verdict. Understandably, the internet is drooling over her.

The Queen of The Hotties is looking better than ever, and she is not being shy about it, and we are all thankful for it.

Spotted on TMZ Hip Hop, Thee Stallion stepped for the first time since Tory Lanez was officially sentenced in sheer numbers, flaunting her curves and continually shrinking waist.

The Houston rapper was spotted in Beverly Hills over the weekend attending her manager, T. Farris’ birthday party in a sheer Burberry jumpsuit, per HelloBeautiful, paired with some nipple pasties, chain, and matching Burberry nailset.

In videos shared on her TikTok page, Thee Stallion linked up with Juicy J and friends to create senses-tantalizing content dancing to Three 6 Mafia’s “Half on Sack.”

Thee Stallion’s new figure is a direct result of the work she has been putting in during her hottie boot camps, which she has been making sure to keep us up to speed with her fantastic recap videos.

No surprise, the hotties love her drip and how carefree she looks since Tory Lanez’s conviction following the July 2020 incident.

“Y’all done fcked up letting Megan thee stallion back outside,” one X user’s post read alongside a video of “Cash Sh*t” crafter showing off her bionic knees.

Hozier Is Most Excited About These Three Things Ahead of His U.S. Tour

This fall, Irish singer-songwriter Hozier is hitting the road for a full U.S. tour — his first outing post-pandemic. Following a handful of warmup dates at smaller venues stateside and overseas, his Unreal Unearth tour (in support of his long-awaited third album, of the same name, released Aug. 18) will bring him and his new backing band to iconic venues from coast to coast for some of his biggest shows to date.

As he sees it, “I’m just excited to share the work live with a fan base that has been with me now for 10 years.” Here’s what else he’s looking forward to on this upcoming trek.

Expanding His Show (And Setlist)

“We’ve been bringing this killer nine-piece band to these tiny rooms. It’s a band that really needs to be on bigger stages. It has been tough in these club shows where there’s curfews in these cities, [so I’m excited] to be able to expand the setlist and actually offer a wider representation of the discography, and have a bit more time to play with the ebb and flow of the set.”

Celebrating His Heritage

“This is the first time that I’ll be singing songs in the Irish language or singing parts of songs that are in Irish Gaelic. So I’m really excited to [play] Madison Square Garden or Hollywood Bowl, and sing in Gaeilge [the Irish language]… and watch as, hopefully, concertgoers and fans learn those lines and maybe even sing it with me.”

Fawning Over His Opening Act

“I’ve always been a huge fan of Madison Cunningham — how astoundingly skillful she is on her instrument, and inventive. I think she represents one of the most talented creative forces of our generation. I’m honored she’s on these shows and that I get to hear her music every night and watch her do her thing.”

Demi Lovato Signs With CAA Ahead of ‘Revamped’ Album Debut

Demi Lovato has made the move to CAA. The Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter and actress, who was most recently with UTA, is now represented in all areas worldwide by CAA.

Lovato rose to fame as a Disney star in roles on Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance. The artist released her first album Don’t Forget in 2008, which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, and has since received two Grammy nominations, four Billboard Music Awards nominations and three Brit Award nominations for her work. All seven of Lovato’s studio albums have appeared on the Billboard 200 chart and reached the top 10.

Lovato has accumulated 36 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including four top 10 titles: “This Is Me,” with Joe Jonas (No. 9 in 2008); “Skyscraper” (No. 10 in 2011); “Heart Attack” (No. 10 in 2013); and “Sorry Not Sorry” (No. 6 in 2017). Eight of her singles have been top 10 hits on the Pop Airplay chart, from 18 overall chart titles. Two singles, 2012’s “Give Your Heart a Break” and 2017’s “Sorry Not Sorry,” reached No. 1 on that chart.

Throughout her career, Lovato has earned 9.7 million equivalent album units, sold 23.9 million song downloads and her songs have collectively registered 7.7 billion U.S. on-demand streams in the U.S., according to Luminate.

Next month, Lovato will release Revamped, featuring rock versions of the artist’s hit songs. With all new vocals and production, the 10-track album will allow Lovato to reimagine her career-defining songs with a fresh perspective that reflects her current artistic vision.

Lovato has also been celebrated for her deeply personal documentaries, 2017’s Simply Complicated and 2021’s Dancing with the Devil. She currently serves as Global Citizen’s official ambassador for mental health, with a special focus on vulnerable communities around the world and, in 2013, Lovato became a New York Times best-selling author with a book of affirmations titled Staying Stong: 365 Days a Year.

Lovato will next be seen on MTV’s Video Music Awards where she’s nominated for two awards and will perform.

Billboard recently reported that Lovato parted ways with manager Scooter Braun in July. Lovato signed with Braun and his SB Projects firm in 2019. She was previously managed by Phil McIntyre of PhilyMack. One source close to the situation told Billboard it was time for Lovato to go in a new direction, even though she was thankful for her time with SB Projects.

Lovato will continue to be represented by Rob Cohen at Carroll Guido Groffman Cohen Bar & Karalian and align Public Relations.
