Welcome Back: Cam’ron Claims Diddy Has Given Ma$e His Publishing Back

Harlem can breathe a sigh of relief this week. Cam’ron claims Ma$e has finally received his publishing back from Diddy.

As spotted on HipHopDX, the Diplomats founder made a big announcement Wednesday (Aug. 30) via his Instagram account. He congratulated the former Children Of The Corn member on the win in signature Killa fashion while promoting his new mixtape. “My n***a murder had to sit this one out. He just got his publishing back from Puff. Just finished the paper work for that yesterday,” he wrote. “Congrats @rsvpmase while he getting his music back in order, I’m dumping my hard drive pause. The lost files vol 1. Sept 8.”

If Cam’ron is speaking facts, this makes for a hallmark victory for Ma$e. For years the ex-Bad Boy Entertainment talent has voiced his displeasure and frustration that Sean Diddy Combs still owns his publishing. Back in 2020, Betha claimed he offered Diddy $2 million dollars to get it back but was declined. But during a sit down with The Breakfast Club, Diddy explained that Ma$e still owed him $3 million dollars.

“Just in general, the Ma$e thing. I did one album with Ma$e. One album. How much money do you think I owe this guy. And then he became a fake pastor and went and conned people,” he said. “And y’all going let him throw dirt on the God’s name? Anybody can come and step up. Bring your receipts. But I’m not playing. I’m back outside, and I’m fighting back for us. And I’m also doing some fighting back for me.”

You can see Cam’s post below, which also includes a preview to the mixtape.

Britney Spears Ex Sam Asghari Says He Has ‘Same Amount of Jobs as Leonardo DiCaprio’ While Walking SAG-AFTRA Strike Picket Line

Britney Spears’ estranged husband, Sam Asghari, was spotted walking the picket line on Thursday (Aug. 31) in Los Angeles in the midst of the ongoing WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes. TMZ posted footage of the actor/fitness instructor, who is a SAG-AFTRA member, marching with a sign that read “SAG-AFTRA on STRIKE!” near the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank in solidarity with the other performers who’ve been on a walk-out since the strike by actors began on July 13.

And while Asghari, 29 — whose resumé includes episodic appearances on shows including NCIS, The Family Business, Hacks and Black Monday — was happy to talk about the historic strike that began on May 2 when Writers Guild of America members began the labor action, he reportedly declined to discuss his divorce from his wife of one year Spears, 41.

“We’re not here to talk about my personal life,” Asghari told TMZ. “We’re here to raise awareness on my brothers and sisters working hard and striking for my future. And I hope everything gets resolved very fast and we can all go back to what we love doing the most, which is making art and inspiring people.”

When the reporter asked about stories claiming that Asghari — dressed in a black tank top, black pants and white NY Yankees baseball hat — is jobless at the moment, he responded, “that’s the point of the strike… I have the same amount of jobs as Leonardo DiCaprio does. I hope everything gets resolved very fast so we can all go back to what we love doing the most, which is making art and inspiring people and writers are the heart and soul of project we do.”

Asghari, whose most recent on-screen credit was a two-episode arc on the Paramount+ series Special Ops: Lioness, filed for divorce from Spears in mid-August citing irreconcilable differences; the filing asked for spousal support and payment of legal fees from the pop star.

On Aug. 17, a day after the filing, Asghari released a statement in which he said, “After six years of love and commitment to each other, my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. S— happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful.”

Executive Turntable: Former Asylum Co-President Joins Hitmaker; Joel Klaiman Launches ASCEND4M

If it’s Friday that means another spin around the Executive Turntable, Billboard’s comprehensive(ish) compendium of promotions, hirings, exits and firings — and all things in between — across the music industry.

Gabrielle Peluso joined Hitmaker Distro / Hitmaker Music Group as general manager, overseeing distribution, artist development strategy and day-to-day operations for the Tony Bucher-founded music company. The 2017 and 2022 Billboard Women in Music honoree previously served as co-president of the re-launched Asylum Records, where she built up a roster that included Seddy Hendrinx, Ken the Man, Jay Loud and Detroit rapper Sada Baby. Prior to that she was vp of urban music at eOne Music, and before that a senior partner at the Kevin Liles-led KWL Enterprises. But for the first 15 years of her industry career, the NYC-based Peluso worked at Def Jam, where she rose to general manager and guided campaigns for a superstar roster that included Rihanna, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez and Frank Ocean, among others. “Her years of experience inside the major label system, to her most recent years navigating the indie space, has made her a perfect fit for this role,” said Bucher. You can reach her at Gabrielle.peluso@hitmakerdistro.com.

Virgin Music Group hired Olukorede “Kay” Ikazoboh to lead the Universal-owned artist and label services company’s expansion into Nigeria. Ikazoboh will oversee Virgin’s operations in the region from the company’s new office in Lagos. As an artist manager, Kay has worked with such artists as Odunsi the Engine and Mowalola, and she previously held several roles working in emerging markets for Warner Music Group. “Kay is known throughout Nigeria as a champion of independent labels and artist development, said Michael Roe, managing director of Virgin Music International. “Her relationships, expertise and insight into the local market make her the perfect executive to lead our operations in this very important music market.” Virgin has had a presence on the continent since the 2021 acquisition of South African indie distributor Electromde, and last year the company launched a dedicated label services division there with more than 50 label partners.

Lowery previously launched the venture advisory firm Brigade Media Capital. Prior to forming Brigade, Lowery was a senior executive at Endeavor Content, where he ran its faith-based division and identified music and content crossover opportunities. –JR

Schwenkow will share duties with Detlef Kornett, who’ll continue to oversee international business affairs at the firm. Additionally, David Reinecke will take over as chief financial officer from Roman Velke, how is departing after five years in the role.

Beyonce & Taylor Swift Lead 2023 VMAs Nominations in Social Categories

When the nominations for the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards were announced on Aug. 8, Beyoncé had just a single nomination (albeit a big one) – artist of the year. Queen Bey did better in the nominations in four socially voted categories, which were announced on Friday (Sept. 1). She received three nods in the social categories, which put her in a tie with Taylor Swift for the most in these four categories.

The two megastars are going head-to-head for show of the summer, song of summer and album of the year (in addition to the previously announced artist of the year).

SZA, BLACKPINK, Drake, Ice Spice and TOMORROW X TOGETHER each received two nods in the social categories.

The album of the year contest could give us a preview of the upcoming Grammy race in that category. Swift’s Midnights and SZA’s SOS, both nominated here, are thought to be Grammy front-runners. Also nominated in the category are Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss, Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains and Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation, which are considered strong Grammy possibilities (though not sure things), and Beyoncé’s Renaissance, which received a Grammy nod for album of the year last year.

With the addition of these social categories, Swift still leads in total nominations (11), followed by SZA (eight); BLACKPINK, Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj and Olivia Rodrigo (six); Kim Petras and Sam Smith (five each); and Beyoncé, Diddy, Drake, Ice Spice, Karol G, Metro Boomin, Shakira and TOMORROW X TOGETHER (four each).

Blink-182 Postpone Three European Shows Due to Travis Barker’s ‘Urgent Family Matter’

Blink-182 informed fans on Friday morning (Sept. 1) that they’ve been forced to postpone three dates on their European tour due to what was described as “an urgent family matter” that required drummer Travis Barker’s attention.

At press time no additional information was available on what caused the postponement of the gigs scheduled in Glasgow, Scotland tonight and Saturday night (Sept. 2) at the OVO Hydro, as well as a Sept. 4 show at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Ireland and a Sept. 5 one at the 3Arena in Dublin; a spokesperson for the group had not returned Billboard‘s request for additional details on what matter required Barker to return to the U.S. unexpectedly.

“More information in regards to his return to Europe and rescheduled dates will be provided as soon as available,” the group said in a tweet.

The world tour by the beloved pop-punk trio — with also features bassist/singer Mark Hoppus and guitarist/singer Tom Delonge — is the first by the band in more than nine years to feature returning member DeLonge. So far, it has run up the best box office results in the group’s three-decade history, with Billboard Boxscore reporting in July that the North American leg of their 2023-2024 World Tour grossed $85.3 million and sold 564,000 tickets.

Barker and wife Kourtney Kardashian are expecting their first child together, news the couple revealed during a Blink show in Los Angeles in June where Kardashian held up a “Travis I’m Pregnant” poster in the crowd at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium.

The cheaper among the two, the Elite 8 Active retails for $199, while the Elite 10 is priced at $249 at major retailer such as Amazon, Best Buy and Jabra.com.

Jabra Elite 8 come equipped with six-mic call technology, wind-noise protecting mesh, stable smartwatch connectivity, Google Assistant, Fast Pair, Swift Pair, Spotify Tap and up to eight hours of battery life (32 hours with a splashproof case).

Jabra Elite 8 Active

They hold up well in the gym or exercise environment, but they’re also suitable for work, and you can get them in four colors: navy, dark gray, caramel and black.

Jabra’s Elite earbuds feature spatial sound, Jabra Advanced Active Noise Cancellation, Dolby Atmos and HearThrough technology, and they’re incredibly durable and comfortable to wear for hours at a time due to Jabra’s ShakeGrip and ComfortFit technology.

The Elite 8 earbuds are IP68 waterproof rated and can be submerged in water up to 1.5 meters deep (nearly five feet). They can take on a rain, sweat, humidity, high temperatures and other elements, and have passed 11 full cycles of testing, according to a news release. The testing included two hours in 104-degree Fahrenheit temperatures with 93 percent humidity, a 15-minute splash test in salt water, and a 15 minute, 104-degree Fahrenheit heat drying test.

Having tested out both earbuds, the Elite 10 made me forget about my AirPods Pro, which doesn’t happen often, but the sound quality, fit and battery life earned high marks on my list. I also like how easily they pair with my iPhone, and they feel incredibly smooth to the touch, almost velvety.

They’re my favorite earbuds to use right now, and a personal frontrunner between the two Jabra earbuds and Jabra vs. AirPods (not getting rid of my AirPods anytime soon though). According to Jabra, the Elite 10 uses “infrasonic waves that measure the ear canal and algorithms which detect noise leakage and wind conditions” and auto adjusts ANC based on your surroundings.

Jabra’s Elite 10 are the brand’s first earbuds to support Dolby Head Tracking (the sound adjusts when you turn your head). And they’re “optimized for enjoying content in Dolby Atmos,” which basically means they sound amazing when you’re listening to music and even better when that music is recorded in Dolby Atmos.

Jabra 10 also utilizes six-mic call technology for crystal-clear calls, along with Bluetooth Multipoint connection and hands-free voice assistance, and the battery lasts for up to six hours (27 hours with case). The earbuds are available in cocoa, cream, black, matte black and titanium black.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour Movie Ticket Presales Crush AMC Record With $26 Million One-Day Haul

After smashing records from coast-to-coast with her Eras Tour this summer, Taylor Swift has done it again with her Eras Tour movie. According to a press release from AMC Theatres on Friday morning (Sept. 1), Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour has broken all existing records for single-day advance ticket sales revenue at the chain with $26 million in the first 24 hours of on-sale.

The largest theatrical exhibitor in the U.S. and the world — which is also acting as the theatrical distributor of the 2 hour and 45 minute concert film due out on Oct. 13 — said the eye-popping figure is marks the highest advance sales revenue day in the 103-year-old chain’s history. The $26 million figure also crushes the previous record for one-day sales for a single title, blowing by 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which racked up $16.9 million in its first 24 hours; according to AMC, The Eras Tour movie bested the the Spider-Man numbers in its first three hours of on-sale on Thursday.

To accommodate the demand, every U.S. AMC Theatre will run the Eras movie at least four times per day on Thursdays, Friday, Saturdays and Sunday, with AMC already adding additional auditoriums to play the film at its theaters across the country. In a nod to Swift’s favorite numbers, tickets for the film are priced at $19.89 plus tax for adults and $13.13 for children and seniors plus tax (except for AMC’s branded premium large-format screens.) The film will be available in AMC theaters in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, with tickets on sale now here and here.

The movie will also screen in IMAX and Dolby Cinema at AMC, as well as in other premium large formats for the standard up-charge fees, which varies by format and theatre. AMC anticipated the rush of interest in the film from Swifties, upgrading its website and ticketing engines to handle what was expected to be five times more than the largest volume they’d ever experienced before. Even so, the AMC app reportedly crashed on Thursday, with fans encouraged to visit their local AMC in person due to the high volume of traffic that made online reservations unavailable at points.

“AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale. Guests wanting to be the first to buy their tickets online may experience delays, longer-than-usual ticket- purchase waiting-room times and possible outages. AMC is committed to ensuring any delays or outages are addressed as quickly as possible,” the company told The Hollywood Reporter earlier in the day on Thursday. In addition to setting records, the spectre of Taylormania at theater was enough to scare Exorcist: Believer to move its release date up one week.

In addition to hosting and distributing the film, AMC has also teamed with several other movie operators in the U.S., Canada and Mexico for screenings, including with Cinemark (U.S.), Cineplex (Canada) and Cinepolis (Mexico).

Dr. Dre & Jimmy Iovine Partner With Atlanta Public Schools

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine are teaming up once again to create a new program for high school students, this time in Atlanta.

On Tuesday (Aug. 28), the co-founder of Interscope Records introduced the “Iovine and Young Center” in a press conference held at Frederick Douglass High School in northwest Atlanta, according to Atlanta News First. The iconic producer wasn’t able to attend in person, so Iovine was joined by another legend and Atlanta native Dallas Austin.

The new magnet program created in partnership with Atlanta Public Schools is designed to give students a more innovative learning model with a focus on technology and leadership, something that Iovine and Dr. Dre aka Andre Young hope will ignite the students’ “superpowers.”

“We believe we’re going to give these kids an advantage, a different type of education,” Iovine said at the press event. “So, you all can sell these kids, go out there and say you want these kids. Because the modern job needs these kids. That’s why.” Interested students in the 9th grade STEAM academy at Frederick Douglass can enroll in the program next year at the school, which has an esteemed alumni list including former mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, Killer Mike, T.I., Kilo Ali, and Lil Jon. It will be offered to all grade levels by the 2027-2028 school year.

Current sophomore Caleb Mitchell is eager to take part. “I think it will help bring out [the] potential of students and help them engage more… I think this will provide more opportunities for us,” he said. “Integrating the Iovine and Young Center at Frederick Douglass High School supports our ability to teach students how to design their thinking, brings student ideas to life, and further prepares our students for competitive careers that may not even exist yet,” said Forrestella Taylor, Frederick Douglass’ principal.

Dr. Dre and Jimmy Iovine created a similar magnet program in 2022 at Compton High School in Los Angeles, with The Chronic producer chipping in $10 million personally to aid the $200 million renovation of the campus. “Me and Dre think big,” Iovine would later add. “We think everybody in the world’s going to learn like this well, maybe! We never thought everybody in the world would wear our headphones, but they did.”

50 Cent Badly Injures Woman After Hurling Microphone On Stage

Wireless Festival 2023 - Day 3

Weeks after Cardi B threw a microphone at a fan after getting splashed with a drink, 50 Cent followed suit and hurled an iron mic at someone during a recent performance and left said attendee in pretty bad shape.

According to TMZ the incident happened Wednesday night (Aug. 30) at the Crypto.com Arena in LA while 50 was doing a show as part of his Final Lap tour. Though no one from the crowd tried to disrespect him while he was doing his thing, 50’s anger stemmed from his growing frustration that came with the fact that the microphones that were on hand just didn’t work.

TMZ reports:

Check out the video … Fitty struts out onstage with a mic in hand to join YG, who is belting out a song. Suddenly, Fitty turns to one side of the stage and hurls the mic, striking a woman in the head.

Sources who were present tell TMZ … Fitty wasn’t targeting the woman, but still, he beaned her good. A source connected to 50 says the woman wasn’t supposed to be in the restricted area … but unlike the mic, that argument doesn’t fly.

Pictures of the injured woman hit the net and judging from the looks of it, it’s a memory that might literally leave her scarred for life.

This is the same man who couldn’t throw a baseball to save his life when he threw the first pitch for the Mets in 2014. All of a sudden he’s Dwight Gooden in ’84. Who would’ve thought?

No word on whether or not said victim will sue 50 for his transgression, but Cardi B was sued by the woman who she hit with the mic, so we wouldn’t be surprised if the woman in this incident pursues legal action. Whether or not the microphone used as a weapon during 50’s performance will be auctioned off like Cardi B’s is anyone’s guess.

Y’all know 50 Cent must be a little nervous he’s about to get served. Just sayin’.

What do y’all think? Should the victim sue 50 Cent for the gash he left on her forehead? Sound off in the comments section below.
