From Troye Sivan’s stunning new single to Kim Petras’ surprise-release new album, check out just a few of our favorite releases from this week below:

Troye Sivan, “Got Me Started”

After coming down from the “Rush,” Troye Sivan kicks things right back into gear on his latest pop banger “Got Me Started.” This glittering, laid-back jam teems with sexuality and good vibes, as well as a sample of Bag Raiders’ viral hit “Shooting Stars” all throughout the track. It’s a fitting entry into Sivan’s latest era, as he croons to his lover “Boy, can I be honest?/ Kinda miss usin’ my body/ F–k it up just like this party did tonight.”

070 Shake, “Black Dress”

Hip-hop star 070 Shake is in mourning — but damn, she knows how to make it sound good. On “Black Dress,” the latest ethereal ode to lost love from Shake, the rapper-singer-songwriter finds herself in the wreckage of a relationship at its end, questioning what’s supposed to happen now. As a relentless guitar accompanies her delicate vocal, punctuated by some gothic ’80s synths to amp up the atmosphere, Shake embraces the darkness, singing that “Even when it’s dark out/ I still can see your bone structure.”

Chappell Roan, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess

After spending years building a dedicated, feverish fanbase, DIY pop star Chappell Roan is ready to take her throne. The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, the rising star’s debut album, makes good on the promise of Roan’s chaotic singles. Throughout this whimsical joyride, Roan injects her songs with pop adrenaline (“Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl”) and disco fervor (“After Midnight”), all while delving deep into her own emotional worldview (“Picture You”). With this album’s release, we’re happy to witness this Midwest princess’ rise — but we certainly don’t see a fall in sight.

Kim Petras, Problématique

Feeling a bit on ennui? Wanting to bid your troubles adieu? Kim Petras has an album for you that will make you say “C’est bon!Problématique — Petras’ once-lost, now-revived French-pop album — is a headfirst dive into delicious pop ecstasy. Petras revels in her brattiest tendencies (the titular funk track), while partying her way through gay Paris (“All She Wants), and she does it with a signature sound that her fans have come to love. In a word, the latest Kim Petras LP is magnifique.

Doechii, “Pacer”

If you finish listening to Doja Cat’s scarlet and are feeling in the mood for some more horror-adjacent rap, we strongly recommend Doechii’s spine-tingling new single “Pacer.” Throughout this furious, chaotic anthem from the Florida rapper, Doechii rages against her detractors and boasts her own glory. Transforming her signature flow into screaming “fits” with each verse, the rapper earns her anger with this thrilling new single.

Slayyyter, Starf–ker

With her sophomore release, Slayyyter would like to reintroduce herself as the bonafide diva that she knows she is. Starf–ker delights in its own narrative, as Slayyyter embraces the chase of fame, the loss of love, and the wild, sexy, drug-fueled journey to the top. Whether she’s lampooning L.A. (“I Love Hollywood!”) or falling down a K-hole (“Purrr”), Slayyyter keeps this character-driven LP as delightfully chaotic as possible for all 35 minutes.

Dua Saleh, “Daylight Falls”

Capturing a personal crisis in the form of a song can be a uniquely difficult process — but Dua Saleh makes it look easy. On their mesmerizing new song “Daylight Falls,” the multi-hyphenate performer ushers listeners through their own panic with top-shelf songwriting and their most emotive performance to date. The gorgeous but unyielding guitar backing only adds to the mounting tension, before Saleh explodes on the chorus; “I’m freaking out in the dead of the night,” they wail. Figure it out/ ‘Cause I’m gonna cry/ F–king me up in the dead of the night.”

Morgxn, “My Revival”

Rebirth is a recurring theme for Morgxn — so it’s only fitting that he dedicate his latest single to reinvention. “My Revival,” the latest single off their forthcoming album BEACON, sees the rising star reflect on his journey thus far as an independent artist; embracing the famous “Hero’s Journey” by Joseph Campbell, Morgxn claims his own story for himself, promising that “I don’t plan on stopping/ My spirit’s never dropping.” Add in the fact that Morgxn’s voice has never sounded better, and you’ve got a winning new track on your hands.

Bailey Zimmerman Nets Third Career-Opening Country Airplay No. 1 With ‘Religiously’

Bailey Zimmerman scores his third career-launching leader on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart as “Religiously” surges from No. 4 to No. 1 on the list dated Sept. 30. In the Sept. 15-21 tracking week, the single increased by 16% to 28.4 million impressions, according to Luminate.

The track — which the 23-year-old from Louisville, Ill., wrote with Marty James, Alex Palmer, Frank Romano and Austin Shawn — has served as Zimmerman’s opening song since he started as a supporting act on Morgan Wallen’s One Night at a Time Tour in April.

“Seeing my fans with tears in their eyes, screaming the lyrics back night after night has made me realize how many lives it’s touched, and that’s what this whole dang thing is about,” Zimmerman tells Billboard. “I know they are the ones that keep pushing these songs to the top of the charts, supporting me and believing in me. I promise to always give my best. ‘Thank you’ will never be enough. Believe in yourself!”

The song is from Zimmerman’s LP, Religiously: The Album, which opened at its No. 3 high on Top Country Albums in May. The track follows his second Country Airplay leader, “Rock and a Hard Place,” which dominated for six frames starting in April, and his rookie single, “Fall in Love,” which ruled for one week in December 2022.

‘Confetti’ Rises

Dustin Lynch adds his 11th Country Airplay top 10, as “Stars Like Confetti” shoots 13-10, up 12% to 19.1 million impressions. It’s his first such hit since “Thinking ‘Bout You” (featuring MacKenzie Porter), which reigned for six weeks beginning in December 2021, marking his eighth No. 1. His first entry, “Cowboys and Angels,” hit No. 2 in October 2012.

Kooky, Krazy, Karen: Kathy Griffin Uses Mayo Tears To Accuse Kanye West Of “Abusing” Bianca Censori

Kathy Griffin is once again heading back to cancel court after posting a video accusing Kanye West of abusing his wife, Bianca Censori.

In the lengthy clip, shared widely on social media, a pale-faced Griffin shares her thoughts on Kanye West, who has been the punchline for many of her jokes. According to the d-list comedian, Ye is allegedly abusing Censori based on her attire and recent actions since the two wed. In the unhinged video, Griffin asserts that West is abusing his wife, claiming that she has no voice, saying:

“While it’s easy to make fun of Kanye because he is crazy and nutty. We’ve all seen those photos of Kanye and his new wife Bianca Censori, right? I see those photos when she is in those pantyhose and like not even a bandeau top, it’s really all about being see-through. I’ve heard that she has a master’s degree in architecture from a university in Australia, she’s gorgeous and she seems to have no voice whatsoever,” she said, adding that while Censori had a “banging body,” she looked “almost identical” to Ye’s ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.

Despite having NO evidence to support her assertion, the 62-year-old continued her allegations stating that if Ye “wasn’t physically abusing [Censori] then he was ‘psychologically abusing’ her,” using the example of the couple’s recent visit to Italy that led to a viral video of them allegedly engaging in lewd behavior on a boat in Venice, while locals complained about the scantily clad Censori causing mayhem with an impromptu fashion shoot in Florence.

“When they were in Italy and he had her drop to her knees and give him a ‘service’ and we saw his bare butt — knowing there were paparazzi photographers all the way around and people with just phone cameras — that to me just reeks of abuse,” Griffin continued. “Like ‘get on your knees and do this now on a freaking water taxi.”

Griffin doubled down on the “Carolyn Bryant Donham” styled accusation, adding in her video: “I don’t know her, I’m never going to meet her, but I just want to know what you guys think, because it just looks like something a really controlling dude would do.”

After a clip of Griffin’s TikTok was shared to X, formerly Twitter, many people came to the defense of Kanye, calling for the half a chuckle-worthy comedian to be sued over the slanderous video.

“Ye and Bianca Censori need to sue Kathy Griffin for all she’s got after this libel and slander,” one person wrote on X.

With another writing: “As much i know she is probably worried. Throwing out allegations like this is NOT OKAY.”

As previously reported, Yeezy and Censori got married at a ceremony in Beverly Hills in January, just two months after his divorce from Kardashian was finalized.

Neither West nor Censori have responded to the allegations.

Travis Scott’s Phone Lost In The Gulf Of Mexico, Plaintiff’s Lawyers Can’t Get Their Hands On It Now

Travis Scott is still in court dealing with civil lawsuits to the tragedy that unfolded at his Astroworld concert back in 2021. But it seems like a key piece of evidence that prosecutors want is MIA, and there’s a wild explanation behind it.

Consequence Sound is reporting that Scott’s lawyer, Steve Brody, told the judge that the rapper’s phone (which holds text messages prosecutors would like to comb through) was lost. They claim the “Highest In The Room” artist dropped his phone in the Gulf of Mexico back in 2022. Though that does seem fishy on the surface, it can happen, right?

News of the phone being lost at sea came after lawyers for the plaintiff filed an emergency motion to get “Documents and electronic devices such as phones and text messages from Scott, his entity XX Global Inc., and employees including Cactus Jack general manager David Stromberg.”

Consequence Sound reports:

When pressured by Judge Kristen Hawkins as to why the contents on Scott’s phone weren’t imaged sooner, Brody acknowledged the delay, but offered no real explanation. “Now, looking back, yeah, in an ideal world his phone would have been imaged on November 6th or November 7th or November 8th,” he said, referring to the days immediately after the Astroworld tragedy, which left 10 dead. “In an ideal situation that would have happened. It did not. And that’s the situation we’re facing right now.”

Judge Hawkins also asked why there was seemingly no attempt made by Scott or his legal team to “recover text messages from alternate sources.” In response, Brody explained that Scott’s iPhone was not backed-up to iCloud, and that neither Apple nor the cell phone carrier could assist in recovering data from it.

Attempting to still be compliant, though, Brody did state that information from Stromberg’s phone would become available to the court by September 27th. According to Brody, the newly-obtained info would “show the vast majority, if not all, relevant texts with Mr. Scott related to this event.” Though it’s unclear if any data will be missing from Stromberg’s phone, Brody hopes that “Mr. Stromberg’s agreement is going to remedy the situation.”

This isn’t a good look for Scott, who’s been maintaining his innocence in the tragedy since day one. Don’t be surprised if those conspiracy theories that this was somehow a satanic ritual make a roaring comeback now with people claiming Lucifer was part of the group chat or something.

To make matters worse for Scott, lawyers for the plaintiff say that Scott’s legal team have been difficult to deal with throughout the process. “As frustrating as the conduct of many of the defendants have been, they have at least produced some documents comprising text messages, photos, and videos retrieved from images of their clients’, employees’, and agents’ phones,” the attorneys wrote. “Travis Scott and his team stand apart as having not produced a single text, WeChat communication, video, or photo from their phones — not because they don’t exist — but because his attorneys chose not to image or search their phones the order to do so by the court.”

Should be interesting to see what course of action is taken next now that we know Travis Scott’s phone won’t be found and his team continues to give the plaintiffs in the case the runaround.

What do y’all think of this latest twist in the Travis Scott court case? Let us know in the comments section below.

From a Purr to a Roar: How Doja Cat Grew Into Her Superstardom

Four years ago, Doja Cat scoffed at the notion that her debut album Amala was anything special. While her sophomore effort, 2019’s Hot Pink, was enjoying white-hot success courtesy of its trifecta of hits (“Streets,” “Like That,” and her eventual first Hot 100 No. 1 single, “Say So”), she was indifferent to Amala during her 2019 Billboard visit, blaming marijuana usage for what she considered to be a lackluster effort.

“A lot of people liked Amala, and that’s great. However, I don’t think it was a finished album,” she told Billboard in 2019.”II was smoking hella weed. I was high all the f–king time and it wasn’t even helping me perceive what was going on musically. I was just really out there partying.”

To be fair, Doja’s first album did peak at No. 138 on the Billboard 200, though it failed to gain mainstream traction initially. But what makes Doja’s ascension into superstardom in the years since so intriguing is the slow burn behind her push as she looks to secure her first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with the release this Friday (Sept. 22) of her fourth album, Scarlet.

Because Cardi B and Olivia Rodrigo’s careers detonated faster than most, scoring No. 1 albums with both their first official singles and albums, fans forget that becoming a superstar overnight is a rare feat, and that artists should be embracing their careers as marathons, not sprints. An artist like Teezo Touchdown, who earned cosigns from Drake and Travis Scott ahead of his debut album How Do You Sleep At Night?, failed to debut on the Billboard 200 this week and became internet fodder because of his paltry showing. This is becoming increasingly common as social media users quickly thrash new artists for failing to immediately impact the Billboard 200. They’re torn apart if their debut projects fail to enter the top 10. Still, many artists, like Teezo, should hold their heads high – because Doja’s route into superstardom wasn’t always scenic.

After Amala underwhelmed commercially, Doja returned to the drawing board and scripted a kooky, tongue-in-cheek rap song titled “Mooo!” The comedic cow-themed song erupted and became an instant hit, as she milked every bit of virality from her song’s and video’s absurdity. Lyrics like “Bitch, I’m a cow” became meme-fodder, as the visual was celebrated by Missy Elliott and Chance The Rapper.

“I just like to do the fun stuff. If I’m not having fun with it, I’m not going to do it for the rest of my life,” Doja relayed to Billboard in 2018. “I just wanna bring something fun — the current climate is so uptight and serious, and it’s just good to have something stupid to laugh at. It’s funny because it’s a joke, but it sounds kinda good. People listen to it like it’s a song.”

Beyond the lo-fi video, cow costumes, and green-screen pastures was an artist adept at carving out indelible punchlines. Her wit was uncontested as her bars made punny references to Ludacris’ “Move,” Kelis’ “Milkshake,” and Raekwon’s “C.R.E.A.M.” The success of “Mooo!” made RCA repackage Amala as a deluxe in March 2019 with three new songs.

With a buzzier presence, Doja crept back into the studio and doled out her second album, Hot Pink, within the same year. The gleefully sophmoric release oozed with flavor and versatility as she mapped her road to being a rap/pop virtuoso. First, she secured a feature from Tyga to revamp her Amala standout “Juicy,” which became her first Hot 100 record, peaking at No. 41. Then, she tapped Gucci Mane for the upbeat “Like That.” She also became a favorite on late-night television, delivering fun-filled performances on Late Night with Seth Meyers and later The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

With seven singles off Hot Pink, Doja swept her underperforming debut album under the rug, as she witnessed the longevity of her second LP on the Billboard charts — courtesy of TikTok favorites “Streets” and “Say So,” which took time to heat up and become fireballs of their own. Even the top brass at RCA didn’t know the former would become a success story. “We all love that song,” Tunji Balogun, former executive vp A&R at RCA, told Billboard of “Streets” in 2021, “but we never really focused on it from the beginning of the project.”

As for the latter, Doja partnered with Nicki Minaj for the song’s remix, which gave “Say So” its final push to No. 1 on the Hot 100 in May 2020. The album’s sustainability and Doja’s torrid streak of incredible performances at award shows, most notably at the 2020 VMAs and the 2021 Grammys, made her an artist to watch in the most literal sense. Despite those big wins, Hot Pink only peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=bHEo4jQp7iw&version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=en-US&autohide=2&wmode=transparent

Entering her third album, 2021’s Planet Her, Doja was on the cusp of becoming one of Generation Z’s most defining stars, and she unabashedly ran the table that calendar year – even though she was thwarted by Tyler, The Creator, as the album opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 behind his Call Me If You Get Lost. Even though she didn’t nab that elusive No. 1, she still debuted with 109,000 album equivalent units and scored a No. 3 single on the Hot 100 with “Kiss Me More” featuring SZA. She landed her first Grammy win from that record and continued to scorch the Hot 100, reeling in three total top 10 hits during that run.

On Planet Her, the chaotic edge lord took creative leaps, exploring the sounds of Afrobeats on “Woman” and aligning herself with pop behemoths such as The Weeknd (“You Right”) and Ariana Grande (“I Don’t Do Drugs”), all while maintaining her image as one of music’s preeminent trolls. By doing it her way, Doja rocketed past the major stars still trying to do things conventionally and shined with arguably the strongest album in the pop solar system that year.

As we reach our fourth stop on Doja’s roller-coaster adventure with Scarlet, we still have yet to reach the mountainous peak of her career. Though she has the daunting task of competing against new albums like Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour and Rod Wave’s Nostalgia, she’s closer than ever to securing her first No. 1 album. While toppling Olivia and Rod would be a feat, Doja still has room to hit certain checkpoints, including being a potential headliner at Coachella in 2024 and eventually morphing into a Stadium-billing artist one day. But she’s still racking up the accomplishments: this month, “Paint The Town Red” became the first rap song in 2023 to top the Hot 100 — and the first of Doja’s career as an unaccompanied solo artist — illustrating the artist’s supremacy and evolving pen-game. She also delivered an exhilarating three-song Scarlet medley at the VMAs last week, in one of the night’s best-received performances

So, just because your career didn’t take off at the starter pistol doesn’t mean the race is already over. Sometimes, you have to “moo” before you can run.

Peso Pluma Cancels Concert In Tijuana After Receiving Death Threats From Cartels

Peso Pluma needs to move tactfully whenever he’s in his hometown. He recently had to cancel a concert in Tijuana due to death threats from cartels.

Vulture is reporting that the Mexican singer songwriter is facing some safety concerns. He was supposed to perform at Caliente Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 14), but is no longer taking the stage at the multi-use facility in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. On Wednesday (Sept. 20), his record label Double P Records took to its Instagram Stories to make the announcement. “Our goal is to protect the fans and our team. For the safety of everyone involved we will cancel our show in Tijuana” the post read. “Thank you very much to all of our fans for understanding. We love you. Sincerely: La Doble P.”

In the past, Peso Pluma has referenced or directly named Sinaloa cartel kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera throughout his music. Local news site Punto Norte reports that Mexican police found three banners with messages for Peso Pluma written in Spanish. “Refrain from appearing this October 14. Because it will be your last presentation,” one of the banners read. All the messages were signed Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación, or Jalisco New Generation Cartel; the direct rivals of the Sinaloa cartel.

This is not the first time a Peso Pluma concert had to be canceled in Mexico. Back in February, a show with Eden Muñoz, Roberto Tapia and El Fantasma was nixed by the promoter due to “insecurity and threats towards other events.”

Currently, Peso Pluma is on the American portion of his 2023 tour.

Zendaya Confirms She Isn’t Engaged to Tom Holland: ‘You Think That’s How I Would Drop the News?’

Spiderman and MJ won’t be walking down the aisle anytime soon. After sending fans into a tailspin earlier this week by posting a simple photo of her outfit — which she appeared to accessorize with a large engagement band on her ring finger — Zendaya has shut down rumors that she and her longterm boyfriend/ Spider-Man: Homecoming costar Tom Holland are planning on getting hitched.

“I can’t post anything, you guys,” she said in a video shared to her Instagram Story Thursday (Sept. 21), according to E News. “You think that’s how I would drop the news?”

The Euphoria star also emphasized that the ring seen in her photo was actually placed on her right hand, not her left. “I posted it for my hat,” she said, through fits of laughter. “Not for the ring on my right finger, you guys, seriously.”

In the original photo, Z snaps a pic of her reflection on what looks to be the side of a glossy car window. Her face concealed by her phone and a pair of black sunglasses, the 27-year-old singer-actress dons a Golden State Warriors cap, a gray short-sleeve tee and a pearl ring on her selfie-taking hand.

Holland and Zendaya have been dating for at least two years, with the 27-year-old Marvel actor confessing in a June interview that the former Disney starlet used to be his childhood celebrity crush. He also gushed that he was “locked up… happy and in love” and joked that he’d won over his girlfriend by playing the “long game.” “Probably making a movie with each other, definitely helps when the characters you’re playing are falling in love with one another,” he added.

Later that month, Holland and Zendaya were spotted at Beyoncé’s Renaissance Tour concert in Poland, and a video of the couple adorably singing along to “Love on Top” while looking into each other’s eyes went viral soon afterward.
