Taylor Swift Misses Chiefs-Vikings Game, Travis Kelce Sustains Apparent Ankle Injury

Taylor Swift was not at Sunday’s (Oct. 8) Chiefs-Vikings game, where rumored romantic interest Travis Kelce sustained an injury. Earlier in the game, which was televised on CBS, on-air commentator Jim Nantz confirmed that Swift was nowhere to be seen at Minneapolis, Minnesota’s U.S. Bank Stadium.

“In case you’re wondering, seven words I never thought would leave my lips in my career: Taylor Swift is not at the game,” Nantz announced. “That’s a first. I’ve never said that before. There’s some brokenhearted people I just saw in the stands.”

The camera panned to a Swift fan holding up a sign, and holding on to the hope of her appearing. Her sign asked what many were thinking: “Where’s Taylor?” A photo from Getty Images, seen below, shows another fan displaying a clever sign, noting that 87 (Kelce’s number) and 13 (Swift’s lucky number) equals 100%. “Kelce make a Swift TD,” it read.

Taylor Swift fan sign Chiefs-Vikings game

A fan holds up a sign in reference to Taylor Swift prior to a game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Minnesota Vikings at U.S. Bank Stadium on Oct. 8, 2023 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Others in the stands were shown wearing jerseys that read “SWIFTIE” on the back.

While Swift was not there to cheer on Kelce in person, as she has for the last two Chiefs games, the tight end seemingly tripped on the field’s turf and sustained a non-contact injury. Kelce was seen leaving the field, throwing off his helmet and heading to the locker room.

Kelce returned to the sideline with a securely wrapped right ankle.

Commentator Tracy Wolfson gave an update: “Travis Kelce is still on the sideline right now, but as you can see, helmet on, that right foot is wrapped up. I was just told he’s gonna try and give it a go. They’re leaving it up to him. He wants to play in this game, guys.”

Kelce reportedly suffered what is assumed to be high ankle sprain. Reports said that medical staff cleared Kelce to return if he wanted to. He ultimately rejoined the game and, soon after his return, scored a touchdown.

“Kelce comes off the X-ray table and finds the endzone,” the announcer said.

At Least 260 People Dead After Attack At Israeli Electronic Music Festival

At least 260 people are dead after a Hamas attack at an outdoor electronic music festival in Israel near the Gaza Strip, according to CNN. An unknown number of attendees also seem to have been abducted by Hamas operatives.

The attack happened on Saturday (Oct. 7) at the Universo Paralello Festival in Re’im, Israel, a rural area located near the border of the Gaza Strip. CNN says the Israeli rescue service Zaka has reported at least 260 bodies at the site.

The rocket attacks began at 6:30 a.m. Saturday morning, with Hamas operatives attacking festivalgoers roughly 30 minutes later. CNN reports that several attendees were taken hostage, with those reports corroborated in a statement by the festival itself. There has been intense fighting throughout Israel since Saturday morning, when Hamas began firing rockets into the country and an invasion followed.

Universo Paralello, which took place Oct. 6-7, is a festival that originated in the Brazilian state of Bahia and is focused on psytrance, a high-BPM form of trance music that has long been one of the most popular forms of electronic music in Israel.

The Israeli version of Paralello Universo, called Supernova Sukkot Gathering after the Jewish holiday, released this statement on Instagram earlier on Sunday (Oct. 8): “The Nova tribe is shocked and pained. We support and participate in the grief of the families of the missing and murdered. We are doing everything we can to assist the security forces, standing by. They are in continuous contact and are located in the field during scans and searches in order to locate the missing.”

The statement says that festival organizers will pass information about missing people to relevant parties, including the IDF.

“We are full of hope and pray that good news will come to us and to you soon,” continues the statement, which was written in Hebrew. “In moments like these, it is important that we be strong and united, full faith, we will support each other and be there for anyone who needs it.” The event has since made its Instagram page private and did not immediately respond to Billboard‘s request for comment.

The lineup featured psytrance producers from countries including Brazil, Spain, Japan and Mexico, with performers Aladin, Artifex, Astral Projection, Flare Jackalon, Jumpstreet, Kido, LIbra, Man With No Name, Noface, Protanica, Rocky Tilbor, Shove, Spectra Sonics, Swarup, Wegha. Billboard reached out for comment from multiple DJs on the lineup but did not immediately receive responses.

Universo Paralello has been happening in Brazil for nearly two decades. The festival was co-founded by Juarez Petrillo, a longstanding producer and promoter and the father of the globally known producer Alok.

Earlier on Sunday, Alok released a statement regarding his father’s presence at the Israeli event. Petrillo was on the lineup performing under his DJ name, Swarup.

“As many of you know, my father was in one of the invaded locations, and concerning his involvement in the event, he is not the organizer,” Alok’s statement reads. “My father was HIRED to perform at an event that licensed the rights to use the festival’s name, as has happened in several other countries before. The Israeli producer licensed the use of the brand and independently organized the event, with my father being one of the attractions.”

21 Savage Performs Outside U.S. for First Time at Drake’s Toronto Concert

21 Savage has officially made his first live appearance outside of the United States.

The U.K.-born, Atlanta-raised rapper was welcomed with open arms by frequent collaborator and current tourmate Drake during the Canadian superstar’s concert at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto on Saturday (Oct. 7).

Earlier in the day, it was confirmed that 21 Savage had officially become a permanent U.S. resident and was legally cleared to travel outside the country. Drake also recently revealed in his song “8 AM in Charlotte” that “Savage got a green card” after nearly being deported in 2019 due to an expired visa.

“To who it may concern, Shéyaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, known officially as 21 Savage, is now cleared to travel up north and perform for his beloved fans,” a man announced onstage during Drake’s show on Saturday. “He has chosen Toronto as his first destination. Ladies and gentleman…,” the man continued before getting interrupted by Drizzy.

“No, no. Let me do it,” Drake said. “Ladies and gentlemen, performing for the first time outside of America in his life. Make some noise for the brother, 21!”

From there, 21 Savage walked out wearing a Canadian flag and joined the 6 God in a crowd sing-along of Canada’s national anthem, “O Canada.” 21 Savage is featured on the track “Calling for You,” from Drake’s just-released eighth studio album, For All the Dogs. The pair is also touring alongside each other as part of Drake’s It’s All a Blur Tour of North America.

21 Savage shared several clips from his onstage appearance in Toronto through his Instagram Story. “Dreams come true,” he captioned one of the videos.

In an Instagram post on Saturday, 21 Savage teased his return to the U.K. with a brief video — soundtracked by Skylar Gray’s “Coming Home” — that featured memories of his childhood. The post included a comment from Drake, who simply wrote, “*we’re.”

“This marks a milestone for the superstar as he will soon perform for the first time in London. More information to follow soon,” a press release from 21 Savage reads.

A source previously told Billboard that 21 Savage is planning an international tour.

21 Savage, who was born in the United Kingdom and legally arrived stateside at age 7, was arrested and detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials in February 2019. At the time, officials said the rapper was “unlawfully present” in the U.S. on a 2005 visa that expired one year after his arrival.

Morgan Wallen’s ‘One Thing at a Time’ Back at No. 1 for 16th Week on Billboard 200

Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time returns to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Oct. 14), rising 3-1, notching a 16th nonconsecutive and total week atop the list. It earned 74,500 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Oct. 5 (up 2%), according to Luminate.

One Thing at a Time continues to have the most weeks at No. 1 among all albums since Adele’s 21 logged 24 nonconsecutive weeks atop the list in 2011-12.

One Thing at a Time debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart dated March 18 and spent it first 12 weeks atop the list. It stepped aside for two weeks, and then returned for another three weeks in a row at No. 1 (June 24-July 8-dated charts). Now in its 31st week on the chart, the album has yet to depart the top four.

Also in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200, Ed Sheeran collects his seventh top 10-charting effort — all of which have reached the top five — as his latest release Autumn Variations debuts at No. 4. It’s his second top five debut of 2023, following – (Subtract) in May.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Oct. 14, 2023-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Oct. 10. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

Of One Thing at a Time’s 74,500 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Oct. 5, SEA units comprise 71,500 (equaling 97.56 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 36 songs), album sales comprise 2,000, and TEA units comprise 1,000.

One Thing at a Time’s 74,500-unit sum is the smallest total for a No. 1 album in nearly a year-and-a-half, since Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry debuted atop the chart dated May 7, 2022, with 55,000 units.

Rod Wave’s Nostalgia falls to No. 2 in its third week on the chart (71,000 equivalent album units; down 20%), after spending its first two weeks atop the list. Olivia Rodrigo’s chart-topping Guts dips 2-3 with 67,000 (down 23%).

Sheeran logs his seventh top 10 charting album on the Billboard 200 — all of which have debuted in the top five — as his new studio set Autumn Variations bows at No. 4 with nearly 62,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 46,500 (making it the top-selling album of the week), SEA units comprise 15,000 (equaling 18.78 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 14 songs) and TEA units comprise 500.

Autumn Variations was announced on Aug. 24, a little over a month before the album was released on Sept. 29. The album’s arrival comes only five months after Sheeran last bowed on the chart, when his previous studio effort, – (Subtract), launched at No. 2 on the May 20-dated tally.

Four former No. 1s follow Sheeran on the new Billboard 200, as Zach Bryan’s self-titled release is a non-mover at No. 5 (59,000 equivalent album units; down 11%), SZA’s SOS is stationary at No. 6 (48,000; down 3%), Travis Scott’s Utopia is steady at No. 7 (46,000; up 4%) and Taylor Swift’s Midnights rises 10-8 (43,000; up 2%).

Rounding out the top 10 of the Billboard 200 is Doja Cat’s Scarlet, falling 2-9 in its second week (41,000 equivalent album units; down 42%), and Peso Pluma’s Génesis, dipping 9-10 (41,000; down 5%).

Drake Fires Back at Joe Budden After ‘For All the Dogs’ Criticism: ‘You Have Failed at Music’

Drake is pushing back on Joe Budden’s criticism of his new album, For All the Dogs.

During a recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, the retired rapper took aim at the 36-year-old Toronto MC’s just-released eighth album, saying Drizzy is “rapping for the kids” and needs to start writing music for an older audience.

“He rappin’ for the children. Yo dog, I had to look up how old this n—a was when I finished listening to the album,” Budden said. “You are 36. Your birthday is in 20 days. I Googled that, too. You’re going to be 37 years old. Get the f— away from some of these younger n—as. And stop f—ing these 25-year-olds.”

The podcaster continued, “I want to hear adult Drake rapping for adult people. … He’s rapping for the kids, the streams, the accolades. He ain’t trying to rap for me. I accept that.”

On Saturday (Oct. 8), Drake fired back in the comments section of an Instagram post by DJ Akademiks that featured a video clip from The Joe Budden Podcast.

“@joebudden you have failed at music,” Drake began his lengthy message. “You left it behind to do what you are doing in this clip cause this is what actually pays your bills. For any artist watching this just remember you are watching a failure give their opinion on his idea of a recipe for success… a quitter give their opinion on how to achieve longevity…”

The 6 God added, “You switched careers cause the things that pop into your brain had you broke living cheque to cheque and the raps you write had 450 men showing up to your shows in dusty Enyce jeans to screw up their face to Mood Muzik 29 and pretend you are the goat…”

Drake also offered advice to artists, saying they should do what they feel is right, regardless of what others think.

“Pls to any artist that’s doing what they feel is right don’t let these opinions affect your mindset after the fact,” the rap star wrote. “This guy is the poster child of frustration and surrendering. You retired and we never hung up your jersey we don’t even remember your number. We know you for doing this… you withdrew from rap not cause you accomplished all you need to it’s cause it wasn’t working for you.”

Drizzy continued, “I never want anybody in the generations to think that the whole ‘everybody’s entitled to their opinion’ is a real thing… this is a man projecting his own self hate and the fact I did and continue to do everything he wanted to do for himself. If you need it put in simpler terms I own a 767… he owns a modest house in the 973 and flies first class on special occasions.”

Budden took notice of Drake’s comment and responded, “You’ll grow up sooner or later… Father time is undefeated.”

After nearly 10 months of teasing and delays, For All the Dogs hit streaming services on Friday (Oct. 6). The 23-song boasts a star-studded roster of guest features, including SZA, J. Cole, Chief Keef, Sexyy Red, Snoop Dogg, Sade, Teezo Touchdown, Bad Bunny, Yeat, 21 Savage, Lil Yachty and PARTYNEXTDOOR.

The set marks Drake’s first solo release since 2022’s Billboard 200 chart-topping Honestly, Nevermind.

The latest eliminations came on Sunday (Oct. 8), after the second of the competition’s three missions ended. The second mission, which took place in South Korea at the famed Training & Development (T&D) facility, required the remaining contestants to put their individual skills on the back burner and enhance their ability to work in a group with the other girls.

LE SSERAFIM’s catalog was the theme for the mission, with the remaining 18 contestants getting split up into four groups. The first two groups danced (Team A – Emily, Yoonchae, Lara and Sophia) and sang (Team B – Iliya, Karlee, Samara and Megan) to the K-pop group’s hit “ANTIFRAGILE,” while the latter two groups sang (Team A – Lexie, Marquise, Mei, Brooklyn and Nayoung) and danced (Team B – Daniela, Manon, Ua, Ezrela and Celeste) to “Fearless.”

In addition to performing to LE SSERAFIM’s tracks, the K-pop group surprised the girls at the Dream Academy with an appearance, and played a prank on the budding stars pretending to film content. The remaining 18 contestants also held a Q&A session with fans in Seoul to chat about the competition, perform the LE SSERAFIM tracks and give away prizes.

After the second mission concluded, fans voted via Weverse and YouTube to pick which of the contestant should remain in the competition. Brooklyn (USA), Mei (Japan), Karlee (USA) and Iliya (Belarus) were all chosen to go home, leaving 14 girls in the competition.

Josh Gad Misses Broadway Performance Due to ‘Medical Emergency’

Josh Gad, who’s currently starring as Bud Davenport in Broadway‘s Gutenberg! The Musical!, had to bow out of a weekend performance due to a medical situation that his doctors said “needed to be addressed immediately.”

“Not the news I’d like to share, but life happens. Unfortunately, I will not be at this afternoon’s performance of Gutenberg. I’m dealing with a medical emergency that despite telling my doctors I wanted to wait till Monday to address, they thought needed to be addressed immediately,” he wrote Saturday (Oct. 7) on Instagram, where he also shared a video.

He announced that Russell Daniels would fill in for the role of Bud Saturday afternoon at the musical, which is playing at James Earl Jones Theatre in New York City.

“Off to hospital for (hopefully) quick treatment and then with any luck will be back by this evening,” Gad wrote. “In the meantime, please help me wish @russelljdaniels the best of luck as he makes his Broadway debut as Bud! I know he is going to give you all the show of your lives!”

In the video clip Gad posted, he apologized for missing the show and added, “I would rather be spending my afternoon with all of you than at a hospital. I hope that this gets resolved pretty quickly and I’ll be back on stage with my buddy [Gutenberg! co-star Andrew] Rannells as soon as possible.”

Later on Saturday, he provided an update confirming that he would be back for Saturday night’s performance.

“Thanks to the phenomenal team at Lenox Hill, I was able to be diagnosed and treated in record time for some lower abdominal issues I’ve been having,” Gad wrote in a “good news” message. “With their blessing, I will be back in the show this evening.”

Gutenberg! The Musical! is described as “the story of two best pals named Bud and Doug who put on a show together because they just love each other so damn much. It’s art imitating life imitating art! And it’s the funniest thing to come to Broadway since 1448! (Which is the year the printing press was invented by Johannes Gutenberg, who is the subject of the musical that Bud and Doug write, but that’s not important right now.)”

Gad is known for a long list of film and television credits, including voicing Olaf in Disney’s Frozen franchise, and his work on the stage: He received a Grammy Award in 2012 for best musical theater album for his work in The Book of Mormon, and he was nominated for best actor in a music at the Tony Awards in 2011.

Travis Kelce Answers Questions About Rumored Relationship: ‘You’ve Got a Lot of People That Care About Taylor, and for Good Reason’

Travis Kelce has long prided himself on his ability to compartmentalize his personal life and his professional life. That ability has been put to the test the past few weeks.

Ever since the All-Pro tight end’s budding relationship with pop superstar Taylor Swift surfaced shortly before the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the Chicago Bears last month, Kelce has become an A-list headline-maker in his own right. He learned that when paparazzi staked out Swift’s apartment in New York last week, capturing the moment he walked out the morning before the Chiefs played the Jets, while other photographers have been scoping out his own residence in the Kansas City area.

“We’re learning with the paparazzi taking photos from all over the place,” Kelce admitted during a press conference Friday (Oct. 6), “but at the same time, you know, it comes with it. You’ve got a lot of people that care about Taylor, and for good reason. You’ve just got to keep living and learning and enjoying the moments.”

Neither of the parties have divulged much about their rumored relationship, and Kelce didn’t go into details Friday when he spoke to the media for the first time in weeks. But given that Swift has twice appeared in a suite to watch Kelce play, including alongside his mother Donna Kelce, it is easy to see why there has been such an intense focus on the duo.

The timing couldn’t be much better for either of them.

Kelce turned 34 on Thursday and is much closer to the end of his career than the beginning, and the elevation of his profile will no doubt help his post-football career. His podcast with his brother and Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce, called New Heights, has soared in popularity, and Kelce’s mustachioed mug is suddenly popping up in advertisements and commercials for everything from State Farm and Hy-Vee to Pfizer and Experian.

Swift is on a break from her Era Tour, but a film about it is due to begin playing in at least 8,500 theaters across 100 countries next week. The movie chain AMC Entertainment Holdings, which happens to be based in suburban Kansas City, said it had sold more than $100 million in advance tickets, and produced the highest single-day ticket revenue in its history.

Meanwhile, the NFL and its broadcast partners are keen to take advantage of the pop culture moment.

Asked whether Kelce was surprised by the sudden interest in him, and his relationship with Swift, he replied: “It’s worldwide, man — worldwide. It’s been magnified for sure.”

All the while, Kelce has been trying to help the Chiefs defend their Super Bowl title. They’ve won three straight after losing their opener to Detroit, and they are favored heading to Minnesota on Sunday. (No word on whether Swift will attend.)

“It felt like I was on top of the world after the Super Bowl and right now even more on top of the world,” Kelce said after Friday afternoon’s practice. “At the end of the day, I have always been pretty good about compartmentalizing and being able to stay focused in this building, so I’ll just keep rolling with that.”

Indeed, Kelce always has juggled a life away from football.

In 2016, he starred in his own reality dating show, coincidentally, called Catching Kelce. He’s pitched plenty of products and services. And he’s played in numerous high-profile golf tournaments, such as a made-for-TV match alongside Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes against the NBA’s Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry just before the start of this season.

Yet none of it has ever affected his performance. Kelce had never missed a game to injury since his rookie season before a hyperextended knee kept him out against the Lions; he has played every game since. And he is riding a streak of at least 1,000 yards receiving in seven straight seasons, resulting in eight trips to the Pro Bowl and four first-team All-Pro nods.

His success is a big reason for the Chiefs’ success. They’ve won the last seven AFC West titles, hosted the last five conference championship games and won two of the three Super Bowls they have appeared in over the past four seasons.

Kelce’s profile has never been higher, though, thanks to the aura that Swift has cast upon him.

“I know I brought this on myself,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate to have fun with it. That’s all that really matters, that it’s not pissing anybody off [within the Chiefs)at least. Like I said earlier, I’ve been pretty good at compartmentalizing and making sure my focus is on winning the game, and I don’t see that changing any time soon.”

Drake Fries Joe Budden For Criticizing ‘For All The Dogs’ & X Eggs It On

Hot 97 Summer Jam 2023

Drake is currently taking in all the kudos and critiques of his latest studio album, For All The Dogs, which dropped on Friday (October 7) after a spat of delays. Joe Budden, a noted fan of The Boy, had some harsh words for the latest drop, prompting Drizzy to unload the clip on Jumpoff via Instagram in epic fashion.

The rift between the pair began when DJ Akademiks shared a clip from The Joe Budden Podcast where the hosts were discussing For All The Dogs and who the target audience is. It appears that Budden and his co-hosts believe that Drake was attempting to cater to a younger generation instead of those in his late-30s age group. Always aware of where his name is mentioned, the Canadian superstar unloaded the clip as only he could.

From Akademiks’ IG:

You have failed at music. You left it behind to do what you are doing in this clip cause this is what actually pays your bills. For any artist watching this just remember you are watching a failure give their opinion on his idea of a recipe for success…a quitter give their opinion on how to achieve longevity…you switched careers cause the things that pop into your brain had you broke living cheque to cheque and the raps you write had 450 men showing up to your shows in dusty Enyce jeans to screw up their face to Mood Muzik 29 and pretend you are the goat…pls to any artist that’s doing what they feel is right don’t let these opinions affect your mindset after the fact…this guy is the poster child of frustration and surrendering. If you need it put in simpler terms I own a 767…he owns a modest house in the 973 and flies first class on special occasions.

Budden replied under the missive, writing, “You’ll grow up sooner or later…Father time is undefeated.”

Budden and Drake have a history of going back and forth with one another although, at a time, it was relegated to the music. An example is in the X reply below.

With Budden known as one of the top podcasters in the entertainment space, the New Jersey network chief has aired his grievances with Drake and his moves via his wildly popular program. In fact, he’s been very critical of Drizzy’s recent output while also praising him as one of his faves.

On X, formerly Twitter, fans are having a field day with this exchange and we’ve got the reactions from all sides below. A warning: there are some emotional responses down there. We hope they’re okay.
