“My Spotify Wrapped was embarrassing,” she playfully noted of how much of a fan she is of the “Anti-Hero” singer. “It was not the cool, ‘Oh, let me share this with all my friends.’ It was like — I figured as much.”

Fallon then pulled up one of Roberts’ Instagram posts from Swift’s Eras tour back in June, which she attended with her three children: 19-year-old twins Hazel and Phinnaeus and 16-year-old Henry. He asked the Pretty Woman star if “Betty,” off Swift’s Folklore album, is her favorite, as she used the song title in one of the post’s hashtags. “I love ‘Betty’ and my mother’s name was Betty, so I particularly love ‘Betty,’” Roberts revealed.

She then reminisced on joining Swift onstage with Joan Baez back in 2015. “I took my kids, this was our first big concert, and Taylor had said before the show, ‘There’s a part in the show where — Would you like to come onstage?’ I was like, ‘Oh, I don’t know.’ I get very nervous,” she recalled.

She continued, “At the time, Phin and Hazel were 10 and Henry was 8, and they were like, ‘Oh, Mom. You should do it, you should do it.’ Henry was like, ‘Don’t do it unless you feel comfortable.’ Then I said, ‘Well, can I get a Taylor Swift t-shirt to wear if I go onstage because I was wearing an outfit that I had just worn two days before on the Ellen show. I didn’t want people to be like, ‘Does she ever change?’”

Roberts concluded by noting that “the whole thing was pretty surreal.” Watch the full interview below.

Trump Says He’ll Be A Dictator Only On “Day One” If Elected On Sly Fox News

Donald Trump stated in a town hall meeting with Sean Hannity that he’d only be a dictator on “day one” if reelected president, raising more alarms among observers.

On Tuesday (Dec. 5), former President Donald Trump sat down with Fox News host Sean Hannity for a town hall meeting event that was taped at Davenport, Iowa. Hannity asked the Republican frontrunner about his remarks targeting rivals and vowing revenge by abusing his power if reelected to the White House. Hannity pressed him on the subject by asking, “Do you in any way have any plans whatsoever if reelected president to abuse power, to break the law, to use the government to go after people?”

“You mean like they’re using right now?” Trump replied.

Hannity asked him again “Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody?” Hannity asked. Trump’s response was quick. “Except for day one,” he replied. “Meaning?” Hannity interjected. In a jesting manner, the twice-impeached president continued. “I love this guy,” he stated, “He says, ‘You’re not going to be a dictator, are you?’ I said: ‘No, no, no, other than day one.’ We’re closing the border and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling. After that, I’m not a dictator.” The assembled crowd cheered as Hannity rejoined, “That’s not retribution.”

The clip has further alarmed many who have been pointing out Trump’s increasingly authoritarian rhetoric in the past months, telling his supporters at rallies that he “is their retribution” and promising to seek revenge against President Joe Biden and his family if elected to another term. “When we get there, the Biden crime family will pay a price like other people are being forced to pay. And that price will be very, very substantial,” Trump wrote in a post on his social media platform Truth Social back in August. President Biden has stated that Trump is “determined to destroy American democracy” in a meeting with donors earlier on Tuesday.

“Donald Trump has been telling us exactly what he will do if he’s reelected, and tonight he said he will be a dictator on day one. Americans should believe him,” said Biden-Harris campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez in a statement issued after the town hall meeting aired. The remarks come a day before the remaining Republican primary candidates are set to debate each other in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Daniel McCartney and Brandon Frankel Board Independent Agency 33 & West

Daniel McCartney and Brandon Frankel have joined 33 & West, the L.A.-based booking agency founded in 2018 by JJ Cassiere, Matt Pike and Dan Rozenblum. McCartney, a former agent at UTA, will join 33 & West as an agent with his current roster, while Frankel will serve as marketing and branding lead. Both are scheduled to start on Jan. 8.

A mainstay in the music industry, McCartney brings a decade of experience from his time at UTA, having worked with acts such as Young Thug, Demi Lovato, Mod Sun, Burna Boy, and grandson. Prior to UTA, he spent seven years touring with his band. Frankel brings nearly 20 years of music marketing and touring experience to 33 & West following past roles at Atlantic Records, CAA and, most recently, The Windish Agency, where he worked in brand partnerships and marketing for renowned artists such as Diplo and alt-J prior to its acquisition by Paradigm.

“I’ve long admired what 33 & West have built and was so impressed with their success and growth in only a few years,” said McCartney. “For an independent agency to do full-service (music, touring, film, TV, comedy), it allows us to compete at a high level, which is something important that our clients need.”

In his new role, Frankel will lead 33 & West’s tour marketing and branding division, strategizing to propel the agency’s current roster — which includes Santa Fe Klan, Dance Gavin Dance and Devo — further along in their careers.

“I couldn’t be more excited to join 33 & West, an agency so deeply committed to the long-term visions of their clients,” said Frankel. “I look forward to collaborating with our stellar team to create opportunities that spotlight artists at key career moments.”

The new hires is part of a rapid expansion at 33 & West as of late. The company’s agent roster also includes Shan Patrick, Ian Fintak, Russell Brantley and Peter DeSantis, who serves as head of talent and music crossover.

“Now more than ever, managers and artists are seeing that they don’t need to be at one of the big three letter companies to be successful,” said Cassiere. “We provide a service for artists to represent them properly — we’re not trying to be a big multimedia company or stray away from the real goal which is artist representation.”

Cassiere added, “Being an independent agency, and now being able to provide the services that the other companies do provide, allows us to deploy a very hands-on white glove approach though a very boutique experience. And we know our clients want that type of experience and want to grow their careers with us.”

Daddy Yankee Retires From Music To Dedicate His Life To Jesus

And just like that, the OG King of Reggaeton is calling it a career.

After bursting onto the music scene with his smash hit “Gasolina” in 2004 and setting the stage for the reggaeton music genre to take over the Latin community, Daddy Yankee let his fans know that he would be hanging up the mic once and for all in order to dedicate his life to Christianity. This music game sure knows how to make people religious after a while.

Variety is reporting that Daddy Yankee made the announcement during the last show of his farewell tour in Puerto Rico. During his farewell speech, Yankee told his fans that he felt he had a higher calling after music and that Jesus Christ was on line one waiting on him.

Variety reports:

“Tonight, I recognize, and I am not ashamed to tell the whole world that Jesus lives in me and that I will live for him,” he told the crowd in his homeland of Puerto Rico. “For many years I’ve tried filling a hole in my life that no one could fill. I tried finding a purpose, on many occasions, it seemed as if I was happy but something was missing for me to feel complete.”

He continued, stating that even though he had traveled the world with his music, he still felt empty. “I took note of something the Bible says,” Yankee continued in Spanish before reciting: “‘What good will it be for a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul?’”

Well, the man just banked an estimated $125 million with his final tour, so he gained a little something, something this past year.

Still, we’re not mad that Daddy Yankee is looking to find spiritual fulfillment in his life after so many years of making music and being rewarded handsomely for his work. Just don’t be surprised if at some point he drops a reggaeton gospel album or something as artists who find religion in their music careers tend to do. Just ask Kanye West. We just hope Daddy Yankee doesn’t become a Nazi sympathizer in the process like the aforementioned artist though. Just sayin’.

Check out Daddy Yankee give his farewell speech below, and let us know your thoughts on the man calling it a wrap two decades into the music game.

DEA Informant Joseph Vincent Pleads Guilty To Involvement In Jovenel Moïse Assassination Plot

HipHopWired Featured Video

HAITI-OAS-DIPLOMACY-MOISE-ALMAGRO

Joseph Vincent, a former informant for the Drug Enforcement Administration, has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a plot to assassinate President Jovenel Moïse of Haiti. Vincent, who claims both Haitian and American citizenship, was the first citizen of the United States to plead guilty in the matter.

The Miami Herald reports that Joseph Vincent, a native of South Florida, was the fourth of 11 defendants charged in the federal case that is unfolding in Miami, with Vincent, 58, admitting to a role in the plot to assassinate Moïse. Moïse was killed after his residence was ambushed by over two dozen mercenaries, some of whom were reported to be from Colombia. According to court findings, 26 of 28 gunmen were reportedly Colombian with two suspects hailing from the United States.

Vincent told the court that he met with a group of individuals in Haiti on the night before President Moïse’s assassination, which occurred on July 7, 2021, in the wee hours of the morning. Vincent, who is entering a plea deal, shared that he wore a U.S. State Department pin on his outfit to appear as an important figure to his Haitian co-conspirators according to Vincent’s statements.

Adding to this, Vincent said he was part of a plan to ignite protests across Haiti against Moïse and use the disturbance as a cover ploy to kidnap the president. Vincent was not part of the gunmen group but did admit to riding with other co-conspirators to Moïse’s residence during the ambush by the mercenaries.

Joseph Vincent is pleading guilty to conspiring to provide material support in the assassination, providing that support, and conspiring to kill or kidnap a person outside the United States. His sentencing hearing takes place on February 9, 2024, and he faces up to life in prison.

Will ATEEZ’s New Album Beat the Holiday Rush to No. 1?

The Contenders is a midweek column that looks at artists aiming for the top of the Billboard charts, and the strategies behind their efforts. This week (for the upcoming Billboard 200 dated Dec. 2), a South Korean group hopes to get the early holiday gift of its first No. 1 album, with the debut of its fourth studio LP.

ATEEZ, The World Ep.Fin : Will (KQ/RCA/Hello82): Eight-piece South Korean boy band ATEEZ has been swelling in stateside popularity since its 2019 debut. Though it has yet to find major airplay or streaming success in the U.S., the group has scored three top 10 albums on the Billboard 200 — most recently reaching No. 2 on the chart with July’s The World EP.2 Outlaw, held off only by Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time blockbuster in the midst of its non-continuous 16-week run atop the chart.

Next week, the group may get its chance at the top spot. Ep.Fin is available for purchase in a whopping 33 different physical editions — 26 CD packages and seven vinyl packages – all with collectible branded merchandise inside. Among the 33 iterations are exclusive CDs and vinyls for Barnes & Noble, Target and Walmart, all with retail-exclusive randomized photo cards inside. Of the seven vinyl LPs, six are color vinyls (four “bone” colored, one magenta and one light blue, while one is a picture disc).

The group will again face stiff competition from a strong reigning champion: Taylor Swift, whose 1989 (Taylor’s Version) has spent three of the last five weeks atop the Billboard 200, and which is still posting weekly unit totals well into the six digits. Still, the time is now for ATEEZ. With a long-anticipated Nicki Minaj album due this Friday (Dec. 8) and the holiday season kicking into full swing shortly after, this upcoming chart week is likely its best remaining chance of finishing the year with a No. 1 album.

Michael Bublé, Christmas (143/Reprise/Warner): Bublé’s holiday perennial always starts to make noise on the charts around this time of year — and indeed, on the current week’s Billboard 200 (dated Dec. 9), the album pokes its head into the top 10 for the first time, jumping 24-9. Bublé leads the Christmas rush of albums expected to storm the chart in the weeks to come – but unlike on the Billboard Hot 100, where Mariah Carey (and now Brenda Lee) have ruled each year since 2019, a holiday album has not actually reached the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 since Pentatonix’s A Pentatonix Christmas reigned for two weeks in January 2017.

Speaking of Pentatonix, along with some of the usual returning suspects – Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas, Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song, Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas – there’s also a new collection from the a cappella group, The Greatest Christmas Hits, which may challenge its usual holiday contender, The Best Pentatonix Christmas. (The former rates at No. 23 on this week’s chart.) There’s also Cher’s new Christmas album, up 66-46 this week, which should benefit from perhaps the closest thing this holiday season has to a new breakout hit: “DJ Play a Christmas Love Song,” which has performed well on streaming, while also topping both radio and sales charts.

Peter Gabriel, I/O (Real World): Peter Gabriel’s days as a major pop hitmaker are now about 30 years in the rearview, but the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer (both solo and as part of Genesis) still commands attention with his new album releases – and I/O is his first since 2011’s New Blood. The album is available in 2CD, digital download and 2CD/blu-ray editions, as well as separate vinyl LP offerings of its “bright-side” and “dark-side” mixes. Gabriel also employed the unusual strategy of releasing a new song from the album every full moon in the 11 months leading up to its release – ultimately releasing all 12 tracks in advance.

Kali Uchis & Karol G’s ‘Labios Mordidos’ Debuts in Top 10 on Hot Latin Songs

After their first collab reached the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, Kali Uchis and Karol G linked up for “Labios Mordidos,” which debuts at No. 10 on the chart dated Dec. 9. Karol G extends her record for the most female pairings to debut in the top 10 in the list’s 37-year-old history, with five all-women collaborations.

“Labios Mordidos” is the third preview from Uchis’ fourth studio album Orquídeas, the all-Spanish-language set due Jan. 12. The Colombian now repays the favor, after “Me Tengo Que Ir” — from Karol G’s No. 1 album Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season) — placed the pair at No. 19 on Hot Latin Songs last August.

“Labios Mordidos” which translates to “Bitten Lips,” arrives at No. 10 on the strength of streaming activity. The song logged 5.6 million official U.S. streams on latest tracking week of Nov. 24-30, according to Luminate. The seven-figure sum sparks a No. 9 start on the Latin Streaming Songs chart.

Further, “Labios” also begins with 500 downloads sold in the same period, enough for a No. 3 arrival on Latin Digital Song Sales.

With “Labios,” Uchis ups her career top 10 count on Hot Latin Songs to two and her first equal-billed top 10 debut. The new top 10 follows the eight-week ruler “Telepatía” (2021). The ranking blends weekly streaming, sales, and radio airplay data.

Karol, meanwhile, collects her 25th top 10, extending her second-most among women, trailing only Shakira who leads with 35 top 10s. Plus, as“Labios” debuts on the upper tier, la bichota captures her fifth all-women pair-up top 10 debut, the most by a woman in the history of Hot Latin Songs, which dates to 1986. Only one other female pair has racked up a top 10 launch without Karol G as one of the collaborators, Becky G and Natti Natasha with “Sin Pijama” in May 2018.

Here’s the full list of top 10 debuts by two co-billed women:

Debut Date, Debut Position, Title, Artist
May 5, 2018, 10, “Sin Pijama,” Becky G & Natti Natasha
Nov. 23, 2019, No. 1, “Tusa,” Karol G & Nicki Minaj
April 10, 2021, No. 9, “El Makinon,” Karol G & Mariah Angeliq
Feb. 26, 2022, No. 1, “MAMIII,” Becky G & Karol G
March 11, No. 1, “TQG,” Karol G & Shakira
Dec. 9, No. 10, “Labios Mordidos,” Kali Uchis & Karol G

Elsewhere, “Labios” gives Uchis her second all-Spanish-language entry on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, at No. 97. For Karol, it becomes her 29th career entry – still the most for a Latin female artist with all-Spanish-language songs.

Ex-Recording Academy CEO Mike Greene Hit With Sexual Assault & Harassment Lawsuit

Former Grammys CEO Mike Greene and the Recording Academy are facing a lawsuit alleging Greene sexually assaulted an Academy employee in the 1990s.

In a complaint filed Wednesday (Dec. 6) in Los Angeles court, Terri McIntyre claims that during her tenure at the Academy from 1994 to 1996, she was “forced to endure pervasive, incessant and routine sexual harassment and/or sexual assault” from Greene, who oversaw the Grammys ceremony for 14 years.

The lawsuit accuses Greene of sexual assault and battery and accuses the Academy itself of negligence and other forms of wrongdoing for allegedly enabling the abuse, including by trying to “actively cover-up, conceal and/or repeatedly excuse Greene’s sexual misconduct.”

Greene did not immediately return a request for comment. In a statement, the Academy said: “In light of pending litigation, the Academy declines to comment on these allegations, which occurred nearly 30 years ago. Today’s Recording Academy has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to sexual misconduct and we will remain steadfast in that commitment.”

The new case comes just weeks after another former Recording Academy CEO, Neil Portnow, was sued by an unnamed female musician who says he drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2018. That case, which also named the Academy as a defendant, was filed by the same law firm as Wednesday’s new suit.

Greene, who transformed the Grammy Awards from an industry ritual into a global television event, abruptly resigned from the Academy in 2002 amid accusations of sexual harassment. Though an internal Academy investigation cleared him of wrongdoing and he was paid an $8 million severance, Greene had long been dogged by criticism that ran the organization “almost as a personal fiefdom.”

In Wednesday’s lawsuit, McIntyre says that shortly after starting her “dream job” as the Academy’s Los Angeles chapter executive director in 1994, Greene began to sexually harass her — including by allegedly telling her directly that “he expected plaintiff to perform sex acts for defendant Greene in order to remain employed and progress at defendant Academy.”

“Defendant Greene repeatedly told plaintiff that she needed to ‘give some head to get ahead’,” her lawyers write in the complaint.

According to the lawsuit, harassment then progressed into assault. McIntyre claims that after she drank champagne with Greene and others in his hotel room during a May 1994 work trip to Hawaii, she “quickly began to feel unwell and began to lose control of her physical movements.” She says she then awoke nude in his bed the next morning.

“Plaintiff knew what defendant had done to her,” her lawyers write. “Plaintiff felt wetness between her legs and smelled of intercourse.”

McIntyre says she did not report the incident because Greene “held the power to effectively block her from any further positions in the music industry.” But she claims that he continued to subject her to harassment and unwanted touching, including “groping her buttocks” and breasts.

In another incident, McIntyre says Greene brought her to his home under the guise of a work meeting but then forced her to perform oral sex on him, including by grabbing her by the back of the head and forcing her to continue as she “tried to get away.”

When she finally reported Greene’s behavior to her supervisor, McIntyre says she was told that she “should just find a way to get along” with Green and that if she could not do so, she “would not be successful, or employed, at defendant Academy for very long.”

The lawsuit says McIntyre later resigned and was forced to quit the music industry entirely, moving to her hometown and applying for entry-level jobs. “Plaintiff came to understand that her hopes, dreams, and aspirations to work in the music industry were defunct and unreachable,” her lawyers say, after she spent two years “being prey to a predator that defendant Academy could have stopped.”

McIntyre’s case was filed under California’s AB 2777, a state law that created a temporary window for survivors of sexual assault to file lawsuits that would normally be barred by the statute of limitations. The law, which doesn’t expire until 2026, is similar to New York’s Adult Survivors Act, which led to a flurry of sexual abuse cases in that state over the past month.
