Initially slated for a 2018 release on West’s shelved album Yandhi, the song features a stirring verse from Minaj and an earworm of a hook from Ty, which praises women seeking enhancements and plastic surgery. “Can’t wait to see your new body/ Don’t be actin’ like you don’t know nobody/ No body count on your new body/ I’ll be the first one to hit your new body, oh, whoa,” Dolla $ign sings on the hook.

As for Minaj’s verse, it remains unchanged despite the song leaking and being unofficially out for years. “Ayo, you ain’t f— me, you f—ed the old body/ You ain’t f— Nicki, you f—ed Nicole body/ Ain’t no miles on this here new body/ Off with they heads, these bi—es is nobodies,” she raps on her punchy verse.

Minaj is coming off the release of her fifth album, Pink Friday 2, which is vying for the top spot on the Billboard 200 next week. The project features Drake, Lil Wayne, Future, J. Cole and more. “New Body” would be the first collaboration for Minaj and West since Ye’s 2010 colossal record “Monster.” That year, the rap twosome also partnered on Minaj’s 2012 Pink Friday song “Blazin.”

Vultures is set to drop this Friday (Dec. 15) and will serve as the first joint project between Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign. Listen to a snippet of “New Body” below.

“I’m a big fan and collector of sneakers and a big fan of NY Knicks legend and NBA Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing,” the Puerto Rican reggaeton star said in a press statement. “Now, I get to have my own shoe in collaboration with one of the shining stars in the sports world. It feels amazing to kick off the new year with the introduction of the Ewing x Yandel Rogue as the shoe will also be celebrating its 30-year anniversary in 2024.”

“For the first time in our brand’s history, we are collaborating with a Latin artist, so it’s only right that we collaborate with a legend,” added the Jamaican-American basketball coach and former professional athlete.

Both Yandel and Ewing filmed the product campaign in New York.

Prepared in a special Ewing and Yandel branded box, the sneaker—which is designed in a grey and white nubuck and leather upper with scuba blue accents—comes with a Spanish-language booklet with the shoe’s story and tissue paper printed with the Puerto Rican flag.

The Ewing x Yandel Rogue will be available for purchase at 10 a.m. ET on January 5, 2024 via ewingathletics.com and yandel.com.

The news of the sneaker collab comes after Yandel was a two-time nominee at the 2023 Latin Grammys, signed a deal with Warner Music Latin, and also made history at the Empire State Building in New York by becoming the first Latin act to perform at the venue during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Xavi Celebrates First Top 10 on a Billboard Chart With ‘La Víctima’: ‘Honestly, I Just Can’t Believe It’

Strong activity on TikTok fuels the song’s rise in streaming: “La Víctima” has generated over 45,000 posts on the app to date, and rallies to the top 10 on Hot Latin Songs with 5.6 million official U.S. streams during the Dec. 1-7 tracking week, according to Luminate. The sum is enough to yield a No. 9 debut on Latin Streaming Songs, Xavi’s first entry and top 10 there.

“Honestly, I just can’t believe it,” 19-year-old Xavi tells Billboard. “Looking at the artists and songs that are in the top 10 makes me feel very honored and humbled. I’m also very grateful to the team and all the fans who have supported the song. I feel truly blessed.”

Hot Latin Songs combines streaming, sales data, and radio airplay into its rankings.

With “La Víctima,” released via Interscope Aug. 17, the Arizona-born teen scored his first entry on any Billboard chart, when it debuted at No. 46 on Hot Latin Songs during Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 25-dated list). A first collab with Dareyes De La Sierra followed, as “Poco a Poco” debuted at No. 46 on the multi-metric tally on the Dec. 9 ranking, peaking at No. 31 on the current ranking.

“La Víctima” also lands on global territory, with a No. 145 debut on the Billboard Global 200 chart, with 16 million global clicks, and a No. 175 start on Global Excl. U.S. with 10.4 million streams outside the U.S., Xavi’s first entry on both charts.

“It was inspired by a true story that happened to a good friend of mine,” Xavi tells of “La Víctima.” As he was telling it to me, I picked up my guitar and wrote it on the spot.”

The Mexican American, who represents the new wave of artists linking regional Mexican music with U.S. sounds, also adds two other songs on Hot Latin Songs this week: “La Diabla” at No. 30 and “Modo DND” at No. 38.

THE BIG STORY: MJ’s Estate Threatens Lawsuit Over Rare Recording

“We write to put you on notice regarding several matters that expose you to liability to the Jackson Estate.”

That’s never a great thing to read, but it’s particularly problematic if you’ve just announced to the world that you’re about to digitally release a rare Jackson 5 song that holds the distinction as “Michael Jackson’s first ever studio recording.”

A day after a Swedish company called anotherblock did precisely that, attorneys for Michael’s estate sent a letter warning that they weren’t happy about the plan. They said the release “violates” the estate’s trademark and likeness rights, and that the company was potentially “misleading the public” by claiming the song was the first-ever Jackson recording.

“We have serious doubts that Michael would have ever wanted these recordings released and commercialized,” the estate’s attorneys wrote. “What you are doing is the opposite of honoring Michael Jackson.”

Go read the entire story here, including access to the full letter sent by the estate.

Other top stories this week…

DIDDY SUED YET AGAIN – Another woman — the fourth in three weeks — filed a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs over allegations of sexual assault. The unnamed Jane Doe accuser claims she was “sex trafficked” and “gang raped” by Combs, former Bad Boy Records president Harve Pierre and another man in 2003 when she was 17 years old. Combs, who had mostly stayed quiet since allegations started flying, responded that “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH” and that he “did not do any of the awful things being alleged.”

MORE MUSIC #METOO CLAIMS – Former Recording Academy CEO Mike Greene and the academy itself were hit with a lawsuit alleging Greene sexually assaulted an Academy employee named Terri McIntyre in the 1990s. The woman claims that during her tenure at the Academy from 1994 to 1996, she was “forced to endure pervasive, incessant and routine sexual harassment and/or sexual assault” from Greene and that the Academy enabled it by failing to take action.

GOOGLE LOSES MONOPOLY CASE – A jury found that Google violated federal antitrust laws by maintaining an illegal monopoly over the Android app market, siding with Epic Games, the maker of the hit video game Fortnite. The case had been closely watched by digital music services like Spotify because Epic’s lawsuit challenges the fees that Google and Apple require apps to pay for in-app transactions and subscriptions.

LIL DURK DOUBLE DIP? – The Chicago rapper was sued by a fintech firm called Exceed Talent Capital, which claims that Durk agreed to grant the company the recording royalties from his song “Bedtime” even though he had already signed an exclusive deal with Sony’s Alamo Records — an alleged double-dip that Exceed called a “manifest fraud.”

TYGA’S INFRINGING SNEAKERS – A federal appeals court sided with Vans and ruled that Tyga‘s “Wavy Baby” sneakers — a parody of the company’s classic Old Skool — likely violate the shoe company’s trademarks. The company that partnered with the rapper to create the sneaker (MSCHF) argued that it had been designed to criticize “sneakerhead” consumerist culture and was thus protected by the First Amendment. But the court said that the shoe was entitled to “no special First Amendment protections” and that the sneaker was likely to confuse consumers into thinking it was an authentic Vans partnership.

TWITTER SUED OVER COPYRIGHTS – SUISA, the music royalties collecting society in Switzerland, sued X Corp. (formerly Twitter) in German court over allegations that the social media site has allowed infringing content to be posted to the platform. The lawsuit mirrors a similar case filed against Twitter in U.S. court in June by dozens of music publishers who are seeking as much as $255 million in damages.

TICKETING REFORM ADVANCES – Legislation that aims to make buying concert tickets an easier, more straightforward process was voted forward by a U.S. House of Representatives committee, clearing the way for a full House vote. Among other features, the proposed STOP Act would require sellers to post final “all-in” prices that include fees, as well as ensure buyers can get refunds after cancellations. Days after the vote, a similar bill, The Fans First Act, was introduced in the Senate by a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers.

CRIP MAC FACES GUN CHARGE – YouTuber and rapper Trevor Hurd, who goes by the name Crip Mac, was arrested in Los Angeles on federal gun charges. The arrest by U.S. Marshals came moments after a California judge agreed to drop state gun charges against Mac over the same alleged wrongdoing — a not-uncommon step after state prosecutors coordinate with the U.S. Attorneys Office.

Kanye West Wears KKK-Style Hood at ‘Vultures’ Listening Party & Fans Are Shocked

Following the Art Basel Miami Beach festivities, Kanye West surprised fans at Wynwood Marketplace early Tuesday morning (Dec. 12) with an album listening party.

During the introduction to his forthcoming joint project with Ty Dolla $ign, titled Vultures, Ye appeared onstage wearing what appears to be a black Ku Klux Klan hood to perform the album’s title track with his 10-year-old daughter North West by his side.

“I ain’t antisemitic / I just f—ed a Jewish b—-,” West rapped during the song, adding to his controversial antisemitic statements from late 2022. Billboard reported in mid-October that Ye and Ty were shopping a joint project to distributors and that West would “make a decision soon.” The set would mark the first release for Ye since his antisemitic comments, which led to Def Jam parent company, Universal Music Group, distancing from the artist.

It’s hardly the first time Ye has promoted racist imagery in public. In October 2022, the rapper wore a long-sleeved shirt with “White Lives Matter” emblazoned on the back while debuting his Yeezy Season 9 collection during Paris Fashion Week.

Following Ye’s decision to wear the black hood onstage, fans took to Twitter to express confusion and frustration over the clothing choice, especially given that he is a Black man and that his daughter was standing next to him. See some of their reactions below.

“If anything, the e.l.f. side has more color,” they said in the video. “I’m telling you, it feels the exact same on both sides.”

From ‘Cabaret’ to ‘Barbie,’ All the Films That Received 2 or More Golden Globe Nods for Best Original Song

Many of these films also got some Oscar love in this category — but not all.

Golden Globes voters showered Barbie with nine nominations, more than any other film this year. Three of those nominations were in the best original song category. “Dance the Night,” “I’m Just Ken” and “What Was I Made For?” are competing with Bruce Springsteen’s “Addicted to Romance” from She Came to Me, Lenny Kravitz’s “Road to Freedom” from Rustin and Jack Black’s “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie (which the performer co-wrote with Aaron Horvath, Michael Jenic, Eric Osmond and John Spiker.)

Barbie is only the second film in Globes history to receive three nominations for best original song. The first was Aladdin more than 30 years ago. Alan Menken and Tim Rice co-wrote all three of those songs – “Friend Like Me,” “Prince Ali” and “A Whole New World.” In the case of Barbie, Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt co-wrote two of the songs – “I’m Just Ken” and “Dance the Night” (Dua Lipa and Caroline Ailin collaborated on the latter song). Billie Eilish and Finneas co-wrote the other nominated Barbie song, “What Was I Made For?”

Barbie is the 11th film in Globes history to spawn two or more nominations for best original song. We’ll take a look at those 11 films and also share how the Globes compared with the Oscars in saluting these films in the best original song category.

The Oscar for best original song dates back to 1934 (compared to 1961 for the Globes). The first film to yield two Oscar nominees for best original song was Fame (1980). The first to spawn three was Beauty and the Beast (1991).

Here are all the films that received two or more Golden Globe nominations for best original song.

Warner Music Nashville A&R EVP Scott Hendricks to Exit Label

Producer and longtime Warner Music Nashville executive Scott Hendricks will be leaving the company at the end of the month. He joined Warner Nashville in 2007 and currently serves as executive vp of A&R/ creative advisor. Hendricks will transition back to being an independent producer and will continue his work with Warner Nashville artists Blake Shelton and Dan+Shay.

While at Warner Nashville, Hendricks has overseen numerous No. 1 singles on the Country Airplay chart, including several chart-topping hits recorded by Shelton. During that time, Shelton has earned a slew of RIAA certifications, including two five-times-platinum singles with “Boys ‘Round Here” and “God Gave Me You,” as well as the three-times-platinum album Based on a True Story… and the two-times-platinum album Red River Blue.

Hendricks is also responsible for signing Dan+Shay, the duo behind the Grammy-winning hit “Tequila” — which was named song and single of the year at the ACM Awards in 2019 — as well as the Grammy-winning hit “Speechless.” Hendricks returned as a co-producer alongside Dan Smyers on Dan+Shay’s most recent album, Bigger Houses, including their current single, “Save Me the Trouble.” Hendricks was also responsible for signing and/or managing A&R for artists including Hunter Hayes (“Wanted”) and Brett Eldredge.

“Scott has been a friend, a mentor, a brother and an always generous teacher from the day I met him as a publisher almost 30 years ago,” Warner Music Nashville co-chair/co-president Cris Lacy said in a statement. “His unparalleled expertise in the studio and his willingness to share the ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ of everything he does — whether as a label head, producer or A&R person — makes him irreplaceable. His quintessential stories will live on, and we look forward to hearing and co-creating many more of them as we work together on projects now and in the future.”

“It’s hard to believe it’s been almost 16 years since I joined the Warner team. It’s true time flies when you are having fun!” Hendricks said in a statement. “I’ve been a part of countless great memories in those years. It’s been an honor and a privilege to collaborate with so many talented people, as well as the artists we served. I am thankful for each and every one. I look forward to continuing my work with Blake Shelton and Dan + Shay as I transition back to being an independent producer. With Ben and Cris now leading the charge, Warner Music Nashville is in good hands moving forward.”

BTS Officially On Hiatus, Nicki Minaj’s World Tour, Ye’s Listening Party & More | Billboard News

BTS is officially on hiatus until 2023. Nicki Minaj announced her ‘Pink Friday 2’ World Tour and teamed up with 50 Cent for a new version of her track “Beep Beep.” Kanye West & Ty Dolla $ign hosted a listening party for their upcoming joint album ‘Vultures.’ Dove Cameron opened up to Billboard’s Rania Aniftos about creating her album ‘Alchemical: Volume 1,’ life after the success of her track “Boyfriend,” being vulnerable in her writing, and the lessons she learned from her Disney Channel days. Sarz, Asake and Gunna took us behind the scenes of the music video for their track “Happiness.” And more!

Tetris Kelly:
BTS is leaving us and we aren’t well. Kanye West has a jam-packed listening party full of A-list features, while Nicki Minaj grabs 50 Cent for a feature of her own. We go behind the video with Sars, Asake and Gunna and sit down with Dove Cameron.

It’s Tuesday, December 12th. I’m Tetris and this is Billboard News. Today’s show is pretty jam-packed so I won’t waste any time because this first story is gonna be hard for me to get through.

Say it ain’t so! The remainder of our men of BTS are heading to the military and their goodbye messages have us in pieces. No, seriously, where’s the tissue? BTS is officially on hiatus until 2025 and today is really hard, okay? A couple of days ago, RM touched ARMY in their souls with his letter stating in part “The day has come. I believe this will be some strange and new period of inspiration and learning for all of us. It’s scary, but during that vague time is there anything else that’s comforting? That’s probably your love.” Okay, I can get through this. I mean, Jin hilariously commented, “Welcome. It’s your first time in the military, right?” BTS’ youngest member Jung Kook said goodbye on Weverse, and you already know I was a puddle when Jimin also emotionally said goodbye with his clean-shaven look. Those two enlisted as buddies together. V posted a note to Weverse saying, “Actually I’m really sad that I can’t make happy memories with my ARMY for the time being. I’ll be back after 18 months of being healthy, so take care of your ARMY and if you’re looking for something to be happy about every day, cheers! I’m here!” BTS shared a photo of all seven members reunited before the big day. We’ll miss you guys but we’ll be right here when you’re back in 2025.

Duff’s announcement came via Instagram, where the star posted a photo of the family Christmas card, which featured her and husband Matthew Koma with their children, 2-year-old daughter Mae, 4-year-old daughter Banks and 11-year-old Luca Comrie (whom she shares with ex-husband Mike Comrie).

The card reads: “So much for silent nights. Love the Duff, Bair, Comrie Crew.” (Koma’s real last name is Bair.) The back of the card highlights more adorable snaps of the kids, along with Duff’s pregnancy confirmation: “Buckle up Buttercups, we’re adding one more to this crazy bunch!”

I built this and I wanted this and so I have to be here to enjoy the joyful and the painful and everything in between.”
