Directed by Academy Award winner Emerald Fennell, the movie follows Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) a student at Oxford University who becomes obsessed with his aristocratic peer Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi). When Felix learns of Oliver’s unfortunate living situation, he invites Oliver to stay at his family’s estate over the summer. Surrounded by Felix’s eccentric family, Oliver is immersed in a world of wealth followed by a mix of horrifying events that make for a summer they’ll never forget.

Camila Cabello Teases New Music in 2024: ‘See You Next Year B-tches’

Next year is already guaranteed to be full of new music, and it looks like Camila Cabello is joining the fray.

While summing up how she spent 2023 in a series of Instagram Story posts on Thursday (Dec. 28), the 26-year-old pop star revealed that she has something special coming in 2024. “mostly the year of this,” she wrote of a picture of her seemingly recording vocals in front of a microphone setup.

“see you next year b-tches,” she continued, adding a mouth-zipped-shut emoji.

The Billboard Hot 100 topping-singer also shared a snap of a Polaroid photo of two collaborators resting on a soundboard. “the year of the band,” she wrote.

The former Fifth Harmony member hasn’t had an album since her April 2022 LP Familia, which reached No. 10 on the Billboard 200 upon its release. The record featured singles “Don’t Go Yet” and “Bam Bam” with Ed Sheeran, which peaked at Nos. 42 and No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively.

She did, however, collaborate on the Trolls Band Together soundtrack in support of her role as Viva in the animated film. On “It Takes Two,” Cabello sings along with Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake.

Earlier this month, the X Factor alum made headlines for vacationing with Drake in Turks & Caicos. The two were spotted talking to each other on a boat and jet skiing together on the getaway, sparking romance rumors.

Luckily for music fans, Cabello is just one of several artists to either confirm or tease that new material is on the docket for 2024. Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish are both expected to release albums next year, as are Kanye West x Ty Dolla $ign, Usher, Jennifer Lopez and more.

It’s been a year of incredible growth in the world of African music.

Music from every corner of the African continent, from West Africa’s contemporary, vibrant Afrobeats supergenre to South Africa’s groovy, bubbling amapiano scene, has continued expanding its reach across the globe, while further embedding itself in the U.S. pop market. Rema & Selena Gomez‘s “Calm Down” and Tyla‘s “Water” both became top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100. The Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards and American Music Awards added new categories honoring African music. Tyla, “Truth or Dare” 

Ahead of her self-titled debut album, Tyla invites an old flame, who wants to reignite what they once had now that he sees how hot she’s become, to play a tantalizing game of “Truth or Dare.” “So let’s play truth or dare, dare you to forget/ That you used to treat me just like anyone/ Truth or dare? Is it true you care? Now that you can see the love from everyone,” she sings in the tongue-in-cheek chorus. But the shuffling beat from the scorching amapiano-infused R&B record feels like Tyla is inviting her past lover onto the dancefloor to win her back. Regardless, it’s Tyla who emerges victorious.  

Victor Thompson, “Stallion”   

After blessing listeners with his and Ehis ‘D’ Greatest’s viral, inspirational anthem “THIS YEAR (Blessings),” the Nigerian gospel singer gives thanks to the One who’s given him the strength to conquer this year with his debut album Blessed. On its opening track “Stallion,” Thompson delivers a message of resilience over a buoyant beat that can inspire listeners to bounce back from any hardships they might be enduring. “I’m a stallion/ And I ride on like a champion/ ‘Cause my Father, He has won it all/ And I no fit fall,” he croons with grace.  

PsychoYP feat. ECEE, Rhoma BTW & Zaylevelten, “LEAN!”   

From the deluxe version of his Osapa London album, the Nigerian alternative rapper talks his shit on the electrifying cut “LEAN!” Over menacing horns and a punchy bassline that could start mosh pits all over the continent and beyond, PsychoYP flexes that he has “forty mil in four different accounts” and other luxuries that make him untouchable, while up-and-comers ECEE, Rhoma BTW and Zaylevelten show off their distinctive flows that all seamlessly blend into the stimulating sonics of “LEAN!”  

Libianca, Oxlade & Chlöe, “Mistaken”   

Following the success of her breakout hit “People,” Libianca continues using her stirring, soul-baring vocals to unload the “baggage that I’ve been carrying for my whole life,” she said in a press statement, with her debut EP Walk Away. On the highlight track “Mistaken,” the Cameroonian American singer-songwriter is pondering whether the man she’s preoccupied with is truly worth her time, with Oxlade playing the man in question, taunting her for being so obsessed with him. But Chlöe reforms from her old ways of being desperate for love from a man who never deserved her, ending “Mistaken” on a high note of resilience.  

Wizkid feat. Wande Coal, “Ololufe”   

Wizkid surprise-dropped his first project of 2023 at the tail-end of the year with the four-track EP S2. On the opening track “Ololufe,” the Grammy-winning superstar links back up with renowned hitmaker Wande Coal (following Wiz’s feature on “Ebelebe” from Coal’s Legend Or No Legend album earlier this year) for an amapiano banger, filled with energetic shakers and audacious percussion that can get every party started this Detty December. But Wizzy’s tender-hearted profession of his love for his darling, paired with Coal’s featherlight melodies, remind listeners that “Ololufe” is also a love song — and that feeling in and of itself is exhilarating.

Zinoleesky, “Sakara”

Zinoleesky’s lyrics have always tended towards the raw, and this year-end single is as introspective as they come, as he sings about struggling to keep his head above water in a world of constant judgment and comparison. But it’s the emotion in his voice that stands out — rarely has he dipped so deeply to convey his feelings beyond just his words, and it makes this song stand out amid his catalog.

Seyi Vibes has proven to be a chameleon when it comes to his sound, yet his particular flow and vocals always make his songs distinctly his own. “Different Pattern” is a perfect example, combining Highlife instrumentation with his multi-layered vocal delivery to make something that seems odd on paper function seamlessly in practice. It’s a fitting way to bookend a banner year for the young street artist, who held things down from beginning to end with a string of worthy projects in 2023.

Chike & Mohbad, “Egwu”

From the single artwork, to the production, to the lyrics and the melodies, everything about “Egwu” serves as a tribute to the late Mohbad, who died suddenly and tragically in September at the age of 27. Over an almost orchestral backdrop and with a gorgeous hook, the song turns on a line from Mohbad that serves as a thesis statement: “Music no need permission to enter your spirit.”

Sarz, Asake & Gunna, “Happiness”

The second single off Nigerian super-producer Sarz’s forthcoming album sees him tap into the talents of two bonafide stars of 2023 in Asake and Gunna over a major-keyed guitar-based beat. Asake carries the track with his infectious delivery reminiscent of some of the themes on his Work of Art album from the summer, while Gunna comes through with a breezy verse that nods to the good life. 

Kizz Daniel, “Too Busy to Be Bae”

Kizz Daniel caps a big year, bookended by the release of his single “Rich Til I Die” and highlighted by his latest album, Maverick, with a new single about the downsides of a suffocating relationship. But despite the subject matter, he can’t help but craft a catchy hook for the earworm single.

All the 2023 Billboard Latin Artists on the Rise: Ludmilla, Chino Pacas, Kenia Os & More

In 2023, Billboard‘s Latin Artist on the Rise series featured a select group of artists who had a breakthrough inside or outside of their genre, scored a significant chart feat and/or created a buzz that was impossible to ignore.

A wide-ranging group of 10 up-and-coming Latin artists were spotlit — including Mexican superstar Peso Pluma, who went on to become one of the year’s biggest artists in any genre. The 24-year-old hitmaker was March’s Latin Artist on the Rise, where he talked about his quest for global domination and being up for the challenge to take música mexicana to new heights.

“I want to go to Brazil, Spain, Argentina. I’m up for the challenge. The regional Mexican artist is emerging — we’re growing within the industry, you can’t deny that anymore,” he said then. Today, Peso has led the regional Mexican renaissance, entering 23 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 this year alone. His third studio album, Génesis, also made history when it debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, the highest ranking for a Mexican music album.

Other emerging regional Mexican music gems that were featured include Chino Pacas, who this year scored a label deal with Street Mob Records, founded by Fuerza Regida‘s frontman Jesús Ortiz Paz, following hit song “El Gordo Trae El Mando.” And Gabito Ballesteros, who is signed to Natanael Cano‘s Los CT Records and a frequent collaborator of Peso Pluma’s (“AMG” and “Lady Gaga”).

Another artist who was part of our Latin Artist on the Rise series was Venezuelan singer-songwriter Joaquina, who won best new artist at the Latin Grammys in November. Most recently, the Universal Music Latin artist signed a management deal with Global Talent Services (GTS).

Joe Budden’s interview with the Pan African Avenger Dr. Umar Johnson continues to be the gift that keeps giving. Johnson is now under fire for saying something very ridiculous about Vanessa Bryant.

Dr. Umar had the internet talking about his unnecessary sitdown with The Joe Budden Podcast for saying Eminem is not a Hip-Hop GOAT and for putting pressure on Budden’s co-host Ish for his relationship with a white woman.

When it comes to Johnson, you can always count on him to say some completely outrageous nonsense if he’s given enough time to talk, and that was the case when Vanessa Bryant’s name came up.

The wife of the late Kobe Bryant has seen nothing but support following the tragic deaths of her husband and daughter, Gigi, but that didn’t stop the hater swirling to come for her with some completely unfounded accusations.

In the clip that has gone viral on X, formerly Twitter, Johnson accused Vanessa Bryant, who is of Mexican descent, of not using her husband’s money to help the Black community.

Johnson claims she “inherited [Kobe Bryant’s] wealth, and guess what? Is Vanessa Bryant using any of that Black man’s money to do any good in the Black community? Absolutely f****** not.”

When challenged on his claim, he responded, “She’s a public figure… I do know, and I’m telling you now. Vanessa Bryant just started an initiative with three predominantly white colleges, some sort of a sports initiative with Kobe’s money and Kobe’s name.”

He continued, “Didn’t choose a single HBCU [historically Black colleges and universities] with a Black man’s money.”

Is Dr. Umar Correct?

Of course, he isn’t. Vanessa Bryant and her late husband founded the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Foundation in 2007, and one of its missions is to provide scholarships to minority college students and other youth globally.

It has since been changed to the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation to honor Bryant and his daughter.

The JBP pushed back again on Johnson’s claims, adding there are notable Black celebrities who don’t give back to the Black community, and as expected, the man full of hot air had a response for that.

“There’s a difference, and you know what the difference is? If I marry a white woman, when I die, my wealth goes to the very people who robbed everything from my community.”

Yeah, sure.

Vanessa Bryant hasn’t responded to Johnson’s wild claims, but she doesn’t have to; social media is doing the job for her.

“Vanessa Bryant woke up one morning and never saw her husband and daughter again, and she is still (seemingly) functioning. If that woman puts all of Kobe’s money in a fuckin tissue box and wipes her tears with it every day, she deserves to do that,” one X user wrote. 

Others point out how Johnson has failed to deliver to the school he’s been asking for donations for since 2014.

Weekly U.S. Vinyl Album Sales Surpass 2 Million for Only Third Time in Modern Era

U.S. vinyl album sales surged in the week ending Dec. 21, with 2.054 million copies sold, according to Luminate. That marks the largest week of 2023 for vinyl albums, and the third-largest week in the modern era — since Luminate began electronically tracking sales in 1991.

The only two larger weeks registered since 1991 both came in the previous two years. The second-largest frame came in the week ending Dec. 23, 2021, with 2.115 million; while the biggest week is held by the frame ending Dec. 22, 2022, with 2.232 million.

Vinyl sales got a boost in the week ending Dec. 21, 2023 thanks to holiday shopping and sale pricing and promotions across retailers.

The top-selling vinyl album in the week ending Dec. 21 (as reflected on Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart dated Dec. 30) was Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) with 57,000 copies sold. Swift had the top four-selling vinyl albums of the week, and six of the top seven. Midnights, Lover and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) are Nos. 2-4, while Folklore and Fearless (Taylor’s Version) are Nos. 6 and 7.

In total, in the week ending Dec. 21, 2023, Swift’s vinyl album sales across all of her albums added up to 194,000 — 9.5% of all vinyl albums sold by all artists in the U.S. that week.

There is one more week in Luminate’s tracking year for 2023 — the week of Dec. 22-28. As that week contains three shopping days before the Christmas Day holiday on Dec. 23, there could be some sizable vinyl sales that come in before the close of the year.

The Kid LAROI Pushes Back Stadium Tour of Australia

The Kid LAROI’s homecoming tour will have to wait.

Raised in inner-city Sydney, now based in Los Angeles, the chart-topping singer and rapper was scheduled to play stadiums six cities across Australia and New Zealand in February 2024, for his The First Time Tour, presented by TEG Live and Nova.

Those dates, however, will be rescheduled to October 2024, according to a statement posted by TEG’s ticketing business, Ticketek.

“We tried to make February work but it’s proving to be logistically impossible,” reads a statement from LAROI (real name Charlton Howard). “I’m sorry to make you wait a bit longer but we will need to move the tour to October. We’re working on the details including some new additions to the line up and will let you know ASAP.”

LAROI will follow in the footsteps of AC/DC and Sia as a homegrown stadium act when he finally kicks off his The First Time Tour in these parts. Those now-bumped dates were meant to start Feb. 2, 2024 at AAMI Park in Melbourne, before heading west for a show at Auckland’s Spark Arena on Feb. 5, the day before Waitangi Day, New Zealand’s national day.

Then, the 20-year-old was slated to head home for open-air shows in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and the Gold Coast, about 50 miles south of Brisbane.

All existing ticketholders for the tour will be notified of rescheduled dates once confirmed, reads the Ticketek statement. Original purchases will be valid for the rescheduled date without the need for exchange.

The First Time Tour represents an upgrade from his homecoming headline tour of May and June 2022, when the ARIA and APRA Award-winner played arenas across Australia. The End of the World Tour was produced by Handsome Tours and TEG Live.

The Gadigal-born artist with Kamilaroi roots had a slow-burn hit with his debut mixtape F*ck Love from 2020, which went to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 a full year after its release. Aged 17 at the time, Laroi was the first solo male Australian to hit the top since Keith Urban, whose Fuse debuted at No. 1 on the Sept. 28, 2013, chart. When F*ck Love (Savage) ruled over the ARIA Albums Chart in February, 2021, the Kid was anointed as the youngest Australian solo artist to do so, at 17 years, 5 months and 22 days.

The forthcoming tour is in support of his debut full-length album, The First Time (via Columbia), which dropped last month for a top 40 bow on the Billboard 200 (No. 26) and the Official U.K. Albums Chart (No. 29), and a No. 3 start on Australia’s ARIA Chart.

Paying Cardi B might not be the only person the habitual tea spiller, Tasha K, has to worry about. Kevin Hart is now coming for whatever coins she has left.

Spotted on The Blast, comedian/actor Kevin Hart is clapping back at Tasha K via legal avenues, accusing her of extortion and defamation.

The lawsuit comes after Tasha K dropped the latest Unwine With Tasha K episode featuring Hart’s former assistant, Miesha Shakes, accusing her former boss of being a serial adulterer and a responsible gambler.

According to the legal documents obtained by the website, Hart initially hit Tasha K with a cease and desist letter and let her know he was not playing the 6 figure fee to stop her from posting the interview.

Per The Blast:

In the filing, Kevin’s legal team says on November 22, 2023, they sent a letter to Tasha K regarding her “recent and ongoing violations of civil and criminal law.” Addressed with the infamous YouTuber’s real name, Latasha Transrina Kebe, the filing demanded that she “immediately cease and desist all such activity.” It continued:

“You have already engaged in criminal conduct and tortious acts that would entitle Mr. Hart to monetary damages against you should he elect to commence civil litigation regarding this matter. To the extent that you do not cease and desist now, your liability for such monetary damages will increase, as will your exposure to criminal penalties.”

Per The Blast’s reporting, Hart’s legal rep, Donte Mills, said an unknown person associated with acting on Tasha K’s instructions reached out to someone on Hart’s team, saying they would “publish a damaging story on social media (the “Story”).

If Hart didn’t want the story published, he would have to pay $250,000.

Social Media Is Clowning Tasha K

As expected, the reactions on X, formerly Twitter, are coming in, and they are all clowning Tasha K for not learning her lesson from the Cardi B situation.

“Everything Tasha K owns must be in her little niece name or something, cause she has clearly made a choice about how she moves,” Music Sermon creator Naima Cochran wrote on X.

Taylor Swift Fan’s Cause of Death Revealed After Rio De Janeiro Concert

Heat exhaustion is the cause of death of a Brazilian fan who attended a concert of singer Taylor Swift in November, a forensics report obtained by The Associated Press on Wednesday shows.

Ana Clara Benevides, 23, passed out during Swift’s second song in the Nov. 17 concert in Rio de Janeiro, “Cruel Summer,” and died hours later at a local hospital. Temperatures in the city that day were at about 40 degrees Celsius (105 Fahrenheit).

Fans lined up for hours before the show, and many accused organizers of failing to deliver enough water supplies for the more than 60,000 attending the concert at the Nilton Santos Stadium. They said they were not allowed to take their own water into the stadium.

The report by Rio’s Forensic Medical Institute said Benevides’ heat exposure led to a cardiorrespiratory arrest. It also said she did not have preexisting conditions or substance abuse that could have led to her death.

The forensics expert who analyzed her body said in the document she had “serious compromise of her lungs and sudden death” due to the heat.

One of Benevides’ friends, who also attended the concert, told local media outlets in November they had been given water while waiting to enter the stadium.

Organizers T4F said in a statement the company “followed the best practices,” complied with “every demand from authorities” and “distributed thousands of bottles of water” to fans. TF4 also denied it did not allow people to bring their own water to the concert.

TF4 also said Benevides “was promptly cared for by members of a rescue team and sent (to the hospital) in an intensive-care unit ambulance.”

“In our 40 years in the business, this company had never registered a tragic episode” like Benevides’ death due to extreme heat, T4F said.

The office of Rio’s public prosecutor has opened a criminal investigation. Rio police said in a statement on Wednesday that after the forensics report is analyzed “representatives of the company organizing the event will be called to testify.”

Benevides’ death shook many in Brazil. She had taken her first flight to travel from the country’s center-west region to see her favorite singer.

In a statement posted on Instagram after the death, Swift said the case had left her with a “shattered heart.”

Benevides’s father, José Weiny Machado, told news website G1 he “never doubted the cause of death was the heat.”
