Lil Yachty, Who Worked at McDonald’s As a Teen, Stars in a New Ad for the Golden Arches

Lil Yachty has gone from working at McDonald’s as a teenager in Atlanta to starring in commercials for the iconic Golden Arches brand.

Lil Boat adds to his list of lucrative partnerships while teaming up with McDonald’s Canada on Tuesday (April 2) for the launch of their Remix Menu.

As part of the celebration, Yachty starred in a colorful Mickey D’s commercial that finds him rhyming about his favorite menu items for a remix of the fast food chain’s 1988 “Menu Song,” which was based on the 1974 song “Life Is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me),” a top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hit for Reunion.

With a heavily Auto-Tuned flow, the 26-year-old runs through some of his go-to’s, like a Big Mac, McDouble, McNuggets, fries, apple pies, McGriddles and a hot fudge sundae to complete his epic order.

“Going from working at a McDonald’s in Atlanta to collaborating on the ‘Remix Menu Song’ with McDonald’s Canada is a wild full circle moment that brought back memories and is such a reminder that anything in life can happen,” Boat said in a statement about the partnership.

From now until April 29, participating McDonald’s locations across Canada will have the new Remix Menu available to customers. Some of the items include wild combinations such as the Chicken Cheeseburger, Surf ‘N Turf Burger, Sweet Chilli Junior Chicken and the tasty Apple Pie McFlurry.

“We hope these new takes on the McDonald’s Menu Song, brought to life by Lil Yachty and Mike Clay, will evoke the excitement Canadians felt for McDonald’s the first time they heard the song, and look forward to introducing it to a new generation of fans,” said McDonald’s chief marketing officer Alyssa Buetikofer.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Star Morphine Love Dion Is Taking Her Face Card to the Bank

Dionne Warwick may have once asked of listeners “Don’t Make Me Over,” but the judges on RuPaul’s Drag Race seem to feel differently.

On last week’s episode (aired March 29), the five remaining contestants of RuPaul’s Drag Race were tasked with giving members of the Pit Crew dancers from RuPaul’s Drag Race Live in Las Vegas full drag makeovers. Transforming hunky men into fellow queens — with a strong family resemblance, of course — the girls also had to teach their new drag daughters how to work the runway with a short choreographed number.

Continuing her winning streak, Plane Jane impressed the judges with her drag daughter Lazi Susan, earing her fourth challenge win of the season. Meanwhile, Sapphira Cristál stumbled in presenting her daughter Shakira Cristál, while Morphine Love Dion’s introduction of her protegé La Tina didn’t thrill the panel, putting both queens in the bottom two.

Lip synching to guest judge Kelsea Ballerini’s “Miss Me More,” Sapphira’s less-is-more approach to the artform paid off in dividends, earning her a spot in the coveted top four queens of the season. Meanwhile, Morphine’s string of lip sync assassinations finally came to end, with the “BBL queen of Miami” finally leaving the competition.

Trending on Billboard

Below, Morphine chats with Billboard about her time on the show, making it this far in the competition without a challenge win, her viral lip sync against Dawn and her approach to drag makeup that fans have been fawning over since she entered the work room.

Congrats on making it to top five, Morphine! How does it feel getting to say that all these months later?

You know, while filming I had such a great time — obviously, not winning any challenges or any mini challenges was tough. I was like, “Oh my god, the fans are going to think I flopped.” But, the love I’ve been receiving has been so immense and intense and amazing that, honestly, I don’t think they even care about my track record, I feel like a lot of people just fell in love with my personality. Honestly, my run was perfect — well, obviously I should have made top four, but otherwise I’m very happy with how everything went down.

We gotta talk about your mug. You have clearly perfected the art of drag makeup — what advice would you give to young queens looking to emulate your look?

So, funny enough, I just posted a photo of myself the first time I was in drag, and girl, it was crunchy. That should inspire everyone that it is possible to go from rough mug to really sickening paint — it does, in fact, get better!

But yeah, it was a lot of practice and watching a lot of YouTube videos of now-cancelled influencers online. I also just grabbed a lot of different inspirations. Like, I will always say that Valentina is my No. 1 mug inspiration, her paint is one of my favorites besides Raven. They both are just … they molded me into my mug. It just took me a while to kind of perfect my own face, and the fact that I’m getting so much love for it is amazing.

Your paint is so good that Trixie Mattel adopted you on sight via The Pit Stop

I know! I want that Trixie Cosmetics sponsorship, honey. But that’s Mother, so whatever she wants to give me, she can put me on her list — she can make me co-signer for Trixie Motel, whatever she wants I will be there for her. Love you, Mom!

But the other you thing you became very quickly known for on this season was your killer lip syncs. Did you have a favorite lip sync you got to do?

Oh, mine is obviously “Body” against Miss Dawn. I literally felt the spirit of Megan Thee Stallion consuming my body; like, she possessed me. I remember Sapphira telling us that she started crying for Dawn before the song even started.

Oh, Dawn herself told us that the only thing she could think about during the lip sync was which wig she would put in which suitcase once it was over.

You know, the thing was, it would not have mattered who I lip synced against; that song in particular plays in Miami almost as a national anthem. Every morning, I wake up by paying homage to the Hotties by playing that song. It’s literally built into my nervous system at this point. So, when they told us what song was happening that day, I was like, “Oh, okay. I’m safe another week.”

I mean, I started out doing amateur drag contests competing against other girls, and Miami is known for having some of the best lip sync artists ever. So, coming up getting to watch these queens perfectly execute timing, knowing how and when to do a reveal or a split or punch someone in the face, was crucial. I learned from all of them, and then I ended up using those same tricks on them in my competitions, and won almost every battle contest I competed in in Miami.

On this episode, you and the other girls were tasked with a makeover challenge, which very much seemed like your exact vibe. When you’re not under the pressure of a reality television show, are you the kind of queen who enjoys giving makeovers?

It is one of my favorite things to do, absolutely. I do it often, and I don’t want to be dramatic, but I can change people’s lives — at least makeup-wise! I have done my makeup on other queens before, and they’ve changed their entire approach as a result. Almost every person that I’ve done looks exactly like me, so I was excited for this challenge, because I thought I was absolutely winning the makeover challenge right at the end. I’ve done weddings, I’ve done quinceañeras, I’ve done it all.

It’s helpful that your partner Miguel was simply so hot, and you were very aware of that fact.

Girl! Straight up, I think that’s why I lost this challenge, because I was too busy ogling. I was fully ready to leave set and start a new life with him. What’s so funny is he has truly the manliest face. For some, that would have been the hardest challenge, but I was slowly falling in love with him and saying, “I will do whatever it takes to make this man pretty.” And I don’t know, he really just was … I was so lost the whole episode because he was just so fine.

Before I have to let you go, I’d love to know — what music have you been listening to lately?

Other than “Body” by Megan Thee Stallion, I have been obsessing over the new Kali Uchis album, ORQUÍDEAS, because it is insanely good. And also, Ariana’s “The Boy Is Mine” is supreme. It’s a bop.

Hunter Schafer Opens Up About Dating Rosalía in 2019: ‘She’s Family No Matter What’

Hunter Schafer has confirmed that while she and Rosalía are currently good friends, they were definitely more than that a few years ago.

In a GQ interview published Tuesday (April 2), the Euphoria star revealed that she dated the “Beso” singer for about five months starting in the fall of 2019. According to Schafer, it took her a few hangouts to realize that she and the musician shared more than just platonic feelings for one another; as of now, though, they’re just good friends.

“I have really beautiful friendships with people that I was once romantically involved with,” Schafer told the publication. “She’s family no matter what.”

Schafer also noted the two-time Grammy winner gave her blessing to confirm their history in the new interview. “It’s been so much speculation for so long,” the Hunger Games actress continued. “Part of us just wants to get it over with, and then another part is like, ‘It’s none of anybody’s f–king business!’ … It’s something I’m happy to share. And I think she feels that way too.”

Trending on Billboard

Billboard has reached out to Rosalía’s rep for comment.

A couple years after dating Schafer, the “Despechá” artist got engaged to fellow Latin music superstar Rauw Alejandro; the pair split in July 2023. Recently, rumors have linked her to The Bear‘s Jeremy Allen White.

Meanwhile, Schafer says she’s still recovering from her breakup with her Euphoria season 2 co-star, singer-songwriter Dominic Fike. “I had a really beautiful relationship with [Fike], and it really opened me up in that way,” she said of the “Babydoll” artist, whom she dated on and off in 2022.

The Cuckoo star also touched on the death of another Euphoria cohort — Angus Cloud, who passed away last year of an accidental overdose. He was 25 years old.

“I’ve never had a friend that I was that close to and that was my age pass before,” Schafer told the publication. “It’s really surreal. It doesn’t make sense. And yeah, it’s new. It’s a new kind of grieving.

“People really fell in love with Angus,” she added. “He was really one of the heartbeats of Euphoria. It’s always the people that are just kind of a little too good for the world and a little too pure. He was a f–king angel. He was sunshine.”

Country Artists You Should Know: Dasha | Billboard News

Ahead of this weekend’s CMT Awards, this week Billboard is putting a spotlight on five country artists you should watch. This episode features California-born TikTok viral sensation Dasha.

Tetris Kelly
Ahead of this weekend’s CMT awards we’re breaking down five country artists you should watch. Dasha’s song “Austin” is a certifiable bop, the California native broke onto the Hot 100 last week when Austin reached No. 74 on the chart. This is thanks in large part because of how viral the track has become on TikTok, climbing all the way to No. 4 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50. With the release of her debut country album What Happens Now we’re about to hear a lot more from Dasha.

Every Shakira Album, Ranked: Critic’s Picks

From Dónde Están Los Ladrones? to Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, here’s where each Shakira studio album ranks in her discography.

Throughout her enduring career, Shakira has dropped culturally and commercially successful albums that have cemented her as a legacy artist. Her latest, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, released March 22, is a testament to the intense emotions that have powered every single one of her songs since her breakthrough in the 1990s.

Using music as a tool or resource to navigate the peaks and valleys of life, the Colombian hitmaker is intentional in her songwriting with raw lyrics, meticulous as a producer and an extraordinary performer bringing to life the songs that define not only her eras but those of women across generations. With albums like Pies Descalzos (1995), Dónde Están Los Ladrones? (1998), Laundry Service (2001) and El Dorado (2017), Shakira offered a soundtrack to women who are vulnerable, who love deeply to the point of self-destruction, who remain on a healing journey — or who have turned their tears into diamonds after a life-defining heartbreak.

The 10 studio albums we’re ranking — not including her first two Magia and Peligro, which were recorded when she was still a young teen and are not even currently available on streaming — have also documented her evolution as an artist, going from her black-haired rock era in Dónde Están Los Ladones? in the ’90s with raging guitars, to her English crossover with Laundry Service in the early 2000s, the pop-reggaeton El Dorado in 2017 and the eclectic Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran where she dabbles in sounds like norteño, Afrobeats, pop and electronic music, generally defying overall categorization.

Las Mujeres is Shakira’s first new album in seven years. It also marks her debut release on vinyl, featuring four distinct artwork editions, each paired with an exclusive colored vinyl variant. The album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Latin Albums (chart dated April 6) and at No. 13 on the Billboard 200.

Below, our ranking of every Shakira studio album.

Billie Eilish, Pearl Jam, Nicki Minaj Among 200 Artists Calling for Responsible AI Music Practices

Billie Eilish, Pearl Jam, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Elvis Costello, Darius Rucker, Jason Isbell, Luis Fonsi, Miranda Lambert and the estates of Bob Marley and Frank Sinatra are among more than 200 signees to an open letter targeting tech companies, digital service providers and AI developers over irresponsible artificial intelligence practices, calling such work an “assault on human creativity” that “must be stopped.”

The letter, issued by the non-profit Artist Rights Alliance, calls on such organizations to “cease the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to infringe upon and devalue the rights of human artists,” stressing that any use of AI be done responsibly. “Make no mistake: we believe that, when used responsibly, AI has enormous potential to advance human creativity and in a manner that enables the development and growth of new and exciting experiences for music fans everywhere. Unfortunately, some platforms and developers are employing AI to sabotage creativity and undermine artists, songwriters, musicians and rights holders.”

Trending on Billboard

Artists, songwriters and producers from all genres, several generations and multiple continents added their names to the letter, from younger artists like Ayra Starr to legends like Smokey Robinson and organizations like HYBE. In particular, the signatories point to the use of AI models trained on unlicensed music, which they call “efforts directly aimed at replacing the work of human artists with massive quantities of AI-created ‘sounds’ and ‘images’ that substantially dilute the royalty pools that are paid out to artists. For many working musicians, artists and songwriters who are just trying to make ends meet, this would be catastrophic.”

“Working musicians are already struggling to make ends meet in the streaming world, and now they have the added burden of trying to compete with a deluge of AI-generated noise,” Jen Jacobsen, executive director of the Artist Rights Alliance, said in a statement accompanying the letter. “The unethical use of generative AI to replace human artists will devalue the entire music ecosystem — for artists and fans alike.”

Over the past year or so, many in the music industry have echoed similar calls for the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence, which left unchecked has the potential to undermine copyright law and make issues like streaming fraud, soundalikes and intellectual property theft much more rampant, much more quickly. There have been Congressional hearings on the matter, and states like Tennessee have begun introducing and passing legislation hoping to protect creators and intellectual property owners from deception and fraud, broadening laws and addressing ethical use. Universal Music Group has developed a task force to address the issue, and UMPG has cited TikTok’s AI approach as one of the reasons for the standoff between the two companies that is ongoing, while the RIAA, Warner Music Group and others have all weighed in stressing that protecting IP from unlicensed AI overreach is of utmost importance.

“We must protect against the predatory use of AI to steal professional artists’ voices and likenesses, violate creators’ rights, and destroy the music ecosystem,” the letter concludes. “We call on all digital music platforms and music-based services to pledge that they will not develop or deploy AI music-generation technology, content, or tools that undermine or replace the human artistry of songwriters and artists or deny us fair compensation for our work.”

Chelsea Cutler on Inspiration Behind ‘Stellaria’ Album Name, Jeremy Zucker Collaboration & More | Billboard News

Up-and-coming singer, songwriter and producer Chelsea Cutler talks about the inspiration behind the ‘Stellaria’ album name, her collaborations with friend and labelmate Jeremy Zucker, performing “Your Bones” at a fan’s wedding, her reaction to Millie Bobby Brown using her song on TikTok, advocating for more female producers and more!

Chelsea Cutler
As a woman, you’re so used to going into sessions and a dude is engineering it, and to just be in this powerful room of all women in this space that’s so typically reserved for men was just really awesome. What’s up, I’m Chelsea Cutler, and this is Billboard News.

Tetris Kelly
It’s Tetris with Billboard News hanging with the super talented Chelsea Cutler. Thanks for coming today.

Tetris Kelly
You’re a busy girl. You are on tour, you’ve played these iconic venues like Radio City Music Hall and then you’re just here in LA to play the Palladium. So how was that?

Chelsea Cutler
Amazing. Yeah, this whole thing has been insane. I think that it’s impossible to process something like playing Radio City. I don’t even know where to start. I still haven’t. I feel like in a year, I’m gonna look back at this tour, and just be like, what the heck happened?

Tetris Kelly
What do you need to make sure your tour is smooth and you’re in a great place?

Chelsea Cutler
That’s such a good question. So I feel like so much of tour — this is not the answer that probably most people want. But a lot of tour is being able to reduce your self-care standards.

The Air Jordan 4 “Military Blue” To See A Massive General Release

HipHopWired Featured Video

It’s been a slow few weeks for hypebeasts as the recent Nikes and Jordan drops have been less than stellar. But anticipation has been building for the long-awaited Air Jordan 4 “Military Blue”‘s and judging from the numbers, it should be an easy copp for sneaker enthusiasts.

According to Sneakernews, Nike has gotten the memo from sneakerheads to mass produce their most highly-anticipated releases (instead of making them limited) and will be dropping a million pairs of their retro Air Jordan 4’s. Originally the sneakers were only going to be seeing a 500,000 pair drop as the “Reimagined” Air Jordan 4 “Bred”‘s did, but with the hype behind this colorway reaching a fever pitch, Nike decided to give us what we want while cashing in bigly as these are basically a guaranteed sell out on arrival.

Sneakernews reports:

When comparing the Military Blue and Bred Reimagined 4s, it’s worth noting that the Military Blues will most definitely be met with more demand. While sneakerheads were able to satiate their need for “Bred” Jordan 4s as recently as 2019 before the Reimagineds dropped this year, the Military Blue colorway hasn’t surfaced in any shape or form since 2012. For that reason, news of high stock numbers come as promising development for all those looking to secure a pair (sorry, resellers).

If production does in fact meet consumer demand, we’ll most likely see shock drops and other non-traditional rollouts just as we did with the Bred Reimagineds both before and after their official release on February 17th.

This is a good look for true-blue sneakerheads who’ve had to deal with sneaker resellers and sneakerbots that eat up inventory on hyped up sneakers that drop in limited quantities. With a million pairs available not only will it give heads a fair shot at copping for retail, but resale prices shouldn’t be ridiculously high.

Hopefully they do the same with their future Travis Scott and Off-White collaborations. Damnit, Jordan Brand, drop those purple and white Travis Scott Air Jordan 4’s!!!

The Air Jordan 4 “Military Blue”‘s are set to drop on May 25th. Will you be copping? Let us know in the comments section below.

Hot 100 First-Timers: Tito Double P & Joel De La P Arrive With Peso Pluma Collab ‘La People II’

The track is a sequel to Peso Pluma and Tito Double P’s “La People,” which the pair released last June on the former’s album Génesis.

Tito Double P and Joel De La P arrived on Billboard’s charts together last June with the collaboration “Dembow Belico,” also with Luis R Conriquez. The single debuted at No. 36 on Hot Latin Songs dated June 24, 2023, and peaked at No. 35 the following frame. Until this week, that marked Joel De La P’s sole chart appearance as a billed recording artist.

As for Tito Double P, the singer-songwriter (who is also Peso Pluma’s cousin and one of his songwriting collaborators) has logged three additional entries on Hot Latin Songs: “Gavilan II,” with Peso Pluma (No. 24 peak in July); “La People,” with Peso Pluma (No. 12, December); and “Sin Tanto Royo,” with Luis R Conriquez (No. 35, January). “La People” also reached No. 164 on the Billboard Global 200 and No. 172 on Billboard Global Excl. U.S.

Plus, Tito Double P co-wrote Peso Pluma’s Hot 100-charting collaborative singles “PRC” (with Natanael Cano) and “Chanel” (with Becky G).

Tito Double P and Joel De La P are both signed to Double P Records. Peso Pluma serves as the label’s CEO and head of A&R, with a roster that also includes Jasiel Nuñez, Los Dareyes De La Sierra and Raúl Vega.

As for Peso Pluma, the song earns the star his 27th career entry on the Hot 100, dating to his arrival in February 2023 with “AMG,” with Gabito Ballesteros and Natanael Cano. It also marks his 47th hit on Hot Latin Songs.
