Raye Learns What ‘OG’ Really Means in New ‘SNL’ Promo

Raye is making her Saturday Night Live debut this weekend (April 5) — but first, she received a valuable slang lesson from Kristen Wiig and Bowen Yang.

“It’s always such an honor to work with an OG,” Yang tells Wiig, who is a former SNL cast member and is set to host the show for the milestone fifth time. Wiig then clarifies to Raye that “OG” stands for “Opulent Girl,” which leads the “Escapism” singer to look confused given that the acronym actually stands for “Original Gangster.”

Yang then interjects, “Yeah, OG, a girl who is ostentatiously rich or luxurious or lavish. I can’t believe you’ve never heard of that Raye!”

Wiig’s new series Palm Royale — which she both stars in and executive produced — premieres March 20 on AppleTV+. The former Saturday Night Live cast member will be hosting the episode, while Raye will be making her SNL debut as musical guest. The British singer-songwriter recently made history by taking home six BRIT Awards, the most ever awarded to one artist in a single year.

Rod Wave Arrested On Weapons Charges In Florida

It seems Rod Wave might have the fight of his life upon him. He was recently arrested on some serious weapons charges.

Variety magazine reports that the St. Petersburg, Florida, native got into some trouble Sunday, March 31. Local badges claim he had involvement in a shooting in Manatee County that left four individuals injured. According to a statement released by the police: “about 11 p.m., officers responded to shots fired in a large group of people gathered outside of 400 49 St. S. At this time it appears a group of men got into a verbal argument and exchanged gunfire outside of the location” the document reads.

Rod Wave was arrested in connection to the incident and charged on weapons charges including possession of the ammunition. His lawyers quickly refuted the claims on an Instagram post. “Rod was arrested and detained with absolutely no evidence of wrongdoing. The police claimed he was a felon in possession of ammunition” the caption read. “Not only was he not in possession of ammunition, a basic check of public records would have easily demonstrated to the police that he was not a convicted felon. The prosecutor and the judge immediately agreed that the evidence did not support the charge and set him free the same day.”

This was not the first time Rod Wave has been in trouble with the law. Back in 2022, he was arrested for allegedly strangling his ex-girlfriend. In an exclusive statement to Rolling Stone magazine his lawyer Bradford Cohen claimed it was a misunderstanding. Rod Wave has yet to publicly comment on the weapons charges.

“We don’t gotta take it slow/ I’ma hit the gas if you’re ready to go/ I wanna speed it, breathe into your clothes/ The way you touch my neck got me ready to fold,” she sings.

Kehlani caught up with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe on Thursday where she detailed her love for “Move Ya Body” when it came to sampling and how she wanted to create more cheerful music rather than the sorrowful tunes her fans cling to.

“Because those drums, when they drop, it’s so recognizable and everybody just loses it. It’s one of those things where it drops and everybody goes, ‘Woo,’ and bends their knees and puts their hands on their knees,” she explained.

“Coming out of this pandemic to global tragedy to global tragedy to global tragedy, I was like I’m not really in a space to make something that feels super jarring or super sad. I’m very outspoken about these things, but I want my art to provide some kind of life and fun. I wanna hear this outside and I wanna feel good.”

Kehlani still hasn’t revealed the title or release date of their anticipated LP. Her last LP Blue Water Road peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200 and No. 8 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums.

Shady Russian Businessman Backed Trump’s Truth Social in 2022: Report

A new report revealed that the Truth Social platform of Donald Trump managed to stay afloat due to a Russian banker being federally investigated.

After Truth Social, the social media network owned by former President Donald Trump went public last week (and promptly lost some value after its initial public offering), new information showed that it almost went under in 2022 if not for receiving emergency loans. But one of those loans from a Russian-American businessman under federal investigation is sounding alarms about Trump potentially benefiting from money laundering by someone tied to a foreign power during his campaign to be re-elected as president of the United States.

According to reporting from The Guardian, leaked documents showed that the loan in question came from the ES Family Trust, which worked like a shell company for Anton Postolnikov, a Russian-American who co-owns the Paxum Bank registered in Dominica. Postolnikov is the subject of a years-long investigation conducted by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which began when one of his associates was found to be insider trading. A further look found that Postolnikov managed to get the money from the trust because the bank couldn’t loan the money since it didn’t have a U.S. banking license. The parent company of Truth Social, Trump Media and Technology Group, received two loans – $2 million in December 2021, and $6 million in February 2022.

The story gets more intricate, as it’s revealed that Postolnikov is the nephew of Aleksandr Smirnov, who was once the chief financial executive and first Deputy Minister of Justice of Russia and a close friend of President Vladimir Putin. Another detail of note is the involvement of Michael Shvartsman, an associate of Postolnikov who was charged with money laundering last month. Shvartsman and his brother Gerald pleaded guilty on Wednesday (April 3) to participating in an insider trading scheme related to the merger in court in New York which reportedly netted them and a third man $22 million. Both men face a sentence of 20 years in prison.

The startling news comes as Trump could potentially make $4 billion from Truth Social’s merger with the Digital World Acquisition Corporation. Postolnikov has not been charged with a crime, and a representative at Paxum Bank threatened legal action when contacted by the press.

Sadly another celebrity couple have called it quits. Chance The Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley have announced their divorce.

The Chicago, Illinois MC and his long-time love are formally parting ways. On Wednesday, April 3 they released a joint statement announcing their split on Instagram Story. “After a period of separation, the two of us have arrived at the decision to part ways,” the post read. “We came to this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together. God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who we will continue to raise together. We kindly ask for privacy and respect as we navigate this transition. Thank you – Chance & Kirsten”.

While the news took many of Chance The Rapper’s fans by surprise there have been signs the two were experiencing issues. Back in 2022 he got caught liking explicit content on Twitter which led to questions about faithfulness. In turn Kirsten released a video claiming the media was reaching. Fast forward a year later Chano was filmed grinding on women at Carnival which further fueled the speculation that the couple were no longer together.

Chance The Rapper and Kirsten Corley married in 2019; they share two daughters together.

In exclusive news, iOne Digital is relaunching Elev8, a new platform with a spotlight on a new wave of Christian Hip-Hop and R&B artists.

As the world is undergoing some turbulent times, there are many online who are looking for a sort of safe space to find motivation and attain reflection on topics related to mind, body and culture. In that spirit, the return of an online hub dedicated to that mission was announced Thursday (April 4). Elev8, pronounced “e-le-vate,” seeks to be a bedrock for those Black men and women seeking out nontraditional sources to further their interconnected well-being.

Elev8 is starting this mission out strongly with a new cover story covering seven talented rising artists in the world of Christian Hip-Hop and R&B. The artists – Childlike CiCi, Franchesca, Lee Vasi, Wande, Jor’Dan Armstrong, Mike Teezy and Stevie Rizo – got to sit down and talk extensively with Elev8 Digital Director Aliya Faust about their commitment to their faith influencing their music in various ways allowing them to push envelopes and appeal to the public.

“I’ve always been a wear-my-heart-on-my-sleeve kind of girl and that’s been kind of amplified in this Christian genre because it’s really soul work that this music is stemming from,” said Lee Vasi in the profile. For Armstrong, who’s attained the No.1 slot on Billboard charts recently, the new shift is remarkable. “I remember 10 to 15 years ago, we didn’t have these types of opportunities,” he states. “We didn’t have these types of platforms. We were frowned upon because we were different or because we had a different approach to what gospel sounded like. I’m grateful to be a part of what God is doing in the industry and the genre that we’re in.”

As Faust explains: “I think it’s important to have a brand like Elev8 because we acknowledge that what you feed your mind and body matter. Health is multifaceted. I always refer to four of the eight dimensions of wellness. Spiritual health, emotional health, physical health, social health, etc. – it’s all interconnected. When we nurture them in harmony, life is elevated.” In addition to more in-depth articles on each of the aforementioned artists, Elev8 will feature more soul-stirring conversations on all of those topics in conjunction with featured videos, exclusive digital profiles, and daily articles along with a newsletter.

A New ‘Matrix’ Film Is In The Works

The Matrix Resurrections

Source: Warner Bros. / The Matrix Resurrections

Sci-fi fans agree that 2022’s The Matrix: Resurrections left much to be desired, but that isn’t keeping Warner Bros. from moving forward with another installment in the cult classic futuristic film saga.

According to Deadline, Oscar-nominated screenwriter Drew Goddard has been tapped to pen and direct a new Matrix film and though there is no word on whether Keanu Reeves (Neo), Carrie Anne-Moss (Trinity) or Laurence Fishburne (Morpheus) will return, we can’t imagine the studio would move forward with the series without bringing back any of those actors (though Fishburne wasn’t a part of Resurrections). Unless Warner Bros. plans on rebooting the series entirely, Reeves should be returning in some capacity in the upcoming film. At least we hope he does.

Per Deadline:

“Drew came to Warner Bros with a new idea that we all believe would be an incredible way to continue the Matrix world, by both honoring what Lana and Lilly began over 25 years ago and offering a unique perspective based on his own love of the series and characters,” said Jesse Ehrman, Warner Bros Motion Pictures President of Production. “The entire team at Warner Bros Discovery is thrilled for Drew to be making this new Matrix film, adding his vision to the cinematic canon the Wachowskis spent a quarter of a century building here at the studio.”

Said Goddard, “It is not hyperbole to say The Matrix films changed both cinema and my life. Lana and Lilly’s exquisite artistry inspires me on a daily basis, and I am beyond grateful for the chance to tell stories in their world.”

Whoa! Sounds like they may actually be moving away from Keanue Reeve’s Neo and focusing on brand new characters? While we don’t know what direction the new Matrix film may be going, fans of the franchise will revolt if the OG characters aren’t included in Goddard’s vision. Laurence Fishburne not being in The Matrix: Resurrections was one of the biggest reasons fans didn’t enjoy the 2022 installment. If everyone involved in this knows what’s good for them, they won’t repeat the same mistake again.

What do y’all think of Warner Bros. churning out another Matrix film? Should they leave well enough alone or continue to explore that world? Let us know in the comments section below.
