It’s a full house on this week’s Billboard Unfiltered as the fellas break down all things surrounding Diddy’s federal indictment and Lil Wayne’s response to being snubbed by the NFL with Kendrick Lamar getting the Super Bowl Halftime Show headlining slot in Weezy’s hometown next year.

As someone who grew up on Bad Boy Records, deputy director, editorial content Damien Scott says it feels like a “betrayal” of the Diddy persona that supplied the soundtrack to his childhood.

Trending on Billboard

“It sucks,” he said. “It feels like a betrayal. This is a person who I think more than anybody else if you grew up in the ’90s listening to hip-hop and you’re from the East Coast, there was no larger figure than Diddy.”

Scott continued: “I remember speaking to a music exec years ago and I told him my favorite rap album’s [Ma$e’s] Harlem World. And he’s like, ‘That’s when hip-hop died.’ … It’s tough to reconcile and wrap your head around what was allegedly going on while he was building this world that you as a fan were so a part of. It’s pretty f—ed and devastating to learn.”

Diddy was arrested earlier this week on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. The unsealed indictment alluded to alleged sexual “freak-offs” and more than 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lube being seized from Combs’ home raids earlier this year.

“I just wanna know, Brother Love, why do you need a thousand bottles of baby oil? That’s a little crazy,” Carl Lamarre questioned.

Senior charts & data analyst Trevor Anderson is interested to see if any of Diddy’s collaborators distance themselves from him and remove their songs together off of streaming services. “It will probably be a little harder for them in the sense of who owns the music. … If they even have the rights to pull it down might be a contentious point,” he said.

After peers like Nicki Minaj and Master P spoke out in his defense, Lil Wayne finally responded to the NFL’s decision to not book him at the 2025 Super Bowl LIX halftime show and admitted he was devastated and that it “hurt a lot.”

Staff writer Kyle Denis doesn’t get the outrage and thinks K. Dot is deserving of the slot. “I feel like the fans deluding themselves into thinking one outcome was the only outcome that could’ve possibly happened is part of fans overstepping their boundaries,” he said.

Denis added: “I can’t remember another performer in recent memory actually putting up a video, ‘I’m heartbroken.’ What is that?”

Rory Feek’s conflict with his eldest daughters doesn’t seem to be any closer to being resolved. According to the country singer, neither 37-year-old Heidi nor 35-year-old Hopie will agree to meet him without a licensed professional present amid their legal dispute over the care of 10-year-old Indiana, leading to an “impasse” in their proceedings.
While discussing the matter in a recent blog post titled “Canceled,” Rory wrote that the “only thing [he’s] guilty of is being part of a family that isn’t perfect.”

“I drove down to Florence, AL where they live about a week and a half ago and knocked on Heidi’s door with two bouquets of peace lilly flowers, and hopes that we might be able to sit down and talk,” he continued. “But, even though their cars were in the driveway and they were inside, no one answered … On the drive back I received a text from Heidi that said, ‘We are only willing to talk with you with a licensed therapist or attorney or both.’”

“That is where the impasse comes in,” Rory went on. “They believe that it’s the job of a someone with a doctorate, legal, or masters degree to repair what is broken in our family. And I believe that it’s our job.”

The post comes after his adult daughters Heidi and Hopie — whom Rory welcomed during his first marriage to Tamara Gilmer — wrote on Instagram that they would be “pursuing legal action because we no longer believe Indiana is safe” under their father’s care. It came just weeks after the singer married Indiana’s teacher, Rebecca, in July.

In their open letter, Heidi and Hopie accused Rory of leaving Indiana — whom the musician shares with late wife and Joey + Rory bandmate Joey Feek — in the care of unfamiliar family members while he and his new wife left to go on their honeymoon. Heidi also reportedly expressed concerns that her little sister was being cared for by a group identified as the Montana branch of the Homestead Heritage, which calls itself an “agrarian- and craft-based intentional Christian community” and was previously hit with accusations of sexual abuse of children in 2012, which the group denied.

In a previous blog post, Rory denied that the group was unsafe or a “cult,” but affirmed Heidi and Hopie’s claims that he’d cut off contact between them and Indiana. His reasoning stemmed from his eldest daughters carrying “completely different” beliefs from his conservative values, and he claimed that they were exposing his youngest daughter to movies and music that he didn’t approve of.

Of Rory’s claim that he was ignored upon his visit to their house, Heidi told People she wasn’t home when he arrived, but Hopie, who was at the residence, started having a panic attack when he showed up unannounced. She added that Hopie called her and their lawyer for about four minutes, but by the time the call ended, Rory had already left.

“Regardless of the intention, it came off as intimidating,” she told the publication. “We’ve set really clear boundaries. We have such a hard time communicating with him and feeling heard that we really don’t feel like it’s possible without a third party.”

Elle King is reflecting on her comments about her tense relationship with her father, actor Rob Schneider.
During the “Ex’s and Oh’s” singer’s revealing interview on BunnieXO’s Dumb Blonde podcast in August, the singer accused her father of being “toxic” and generally absent from her life as a child. She admitted doesn’t like to be associated with him because “he’s just not nice.” “My dad called me and was like, ‘Don’t f—ing talk about me in the press,’” she shared on the podcast. “I was like, ‘Get f—ed.’”

The singer-songwriter also emphasized that she doesn’t agree with Schneider’s controversial political views and recalled how she once “got in trouble” for not losing any weight while suffering from a sprained ankle. “I was a really, really heavy child, and my dad sent me to fat camp,” she continued. “My dad forgot every single birthday.”

King told People in a recent interview that she didn’t expect the podcast clips would be so widespread on the Internet. “I never in a million years thought that that was going to go viral. I was just speaking about my childhood and about my truth,” she told the publication. “I was not trying to hurt him.”

She continued, “A lot of people said, ‘How could she say that about her family?’ and ‘Everything needs to be behind closed doors.’ No, it doesn’t. Sometimes you have to just say things and get them off your chest so that you don’t have to carry it for the rest of your life.”

Schneider issued a public apology to his daughter while chatting with Tucker Carlson. “I want to tell my daughter, Elle, I love you. I wish I was the father in my 20s that you needed, and clearly, I wasn’t,” he said. “I hope you can forgive me for my shortcomings. I love you completely, I love you entirely. I just want you to be well and happy, you and your beautiful baby, Lucky. I wish you the best. I feel terrible, and I just want you to know that I don’t take anything you say personally.”

However, King addressed her father’s apology to People, noting, “Ultimately, I think an apology on Tucker Carlson is like a double negative, right? Means nothing.”

She concluded of the experience, “What I will say is the best thing that came from that is that my incredible LGBTQ+ community knows that they have an ally in me. And if that’s the biggest thing to come out of that platform, then I would’ve done it 10 more f—ing times because I am an ally, they have one in me, and I’m grateful.”

Already one of the most successful and prolific Latin music artists in Boxscore history, Luis Miguel has re-entered the record books with his ongoing world tour. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the Luis Miguel Tour 2023-24 has grossed $318.2 million and sold 2.2 million tickets in its first 146 shows. That makes it the highest grossing tour ever among Latin acts.

At an Aug. 28 show in Caracas, Venezuela, Miguel slid past Bad Bunny’s World’s Hottest Tour ($314.1 million) and Karol G’s Manana Sera Bonito Tour ($313.3 million) for the Latin Boxscore record and extended it a few days later with a concert in Juarez, Mexico.

Miguel’s current tour kicked off with a bang last summer, with 10 shows at Buenos Aires’ Movistar Arena, and then another 10 at the venue of the same name in Santiago, Chile. Those 20 kick-off dates brought in a combined $28.1 million and sold 227,000 tickets, already establishing it as the third highest grosser of his storied career. After that, he toured through the U.S., Mexico and Latin America, back to the U.S., over to Spain, and most recently, back to LatAm.

Miguel’s run in the U.S. was fruitful ($49.8 million), but the turn to his native Mexico was even bigger, bringing in $57.5 million in 20 shows. By the end of 2023, he had earned $141 million – still a way’s away from the all-time high, but enough to handily pass his own Mexico Por Siempre Tour from 2018-19 ($101.4 million) as his biggest tour yet.

Across stadiums in Latin America, Miguel added another $73 million in the early months of 2024, and another $65.6 million in North American arenas through mid-June. Twelve shows in Spain packed in $27.6 million, and his return to Central America padded the tour with another $10.7 million in five shows in August.

Not only is this Miguel’s highest-grossing tour, it’s his best-seller. At 2.194 million tickets so far, he has doubled (and then some) his previous run, where he moved 965,000 tickets. On the all-time leaderboard, he still trails Karol G’s 2.326 million, though he will easily pass that mark by the end of the month.

While Bad Bunny and Karol G had earned their all-time highs exclusively in stadiums around the world, Luis Miguel has mixed arenas and stadiums, with more than double the show count.

Already in unprecedented waters, Miguel has played another seven as-yet-unreported shows in Mexico and Las Vegas, with another 30 scheduled in Mexico through Nov. 25. The centerpiece of his remaining shows is a 10-show run at Mexico City’s Arena Ciudad de Mexico between Oct. 8-24. Seven shows at the same venue grossed $14.6 million last November, so his extended stint is expected to surpass that and be the entire tour’s biggest engagement.

Miguel’s 20 shows in Mexico last year averaged $2.873 million per date. Applying the same logic, the remaining dates (including September shows that he has played but not yet reported) could add another $100 million and make him the first Latin artist to stage a $400 million tour.

Dating back to a November 1991 concert at New York’s The Paramount, Miguel has grossed $633.1 million and sold 6.3 million tickets over 701 reported shows.
