Adele Adds New Year’s Eve Weekend Shows to Las Vegas Residency: ‘Let’s Go All Out’

Adele will be ringing in the new year with her fans.

The beloved British singer-songwriter took to social media on Sunday (Nov. 20) to announce two additional New Year’s Eve weekend shows as part of her just-launched Weekends With Adele residency at Las Vegas’ Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

“New Years Eve has always been a let down for me, I seem to always end up spending it in a car on my way to or from somewhere! But not this year!!” Adele captioned a celebratory photo on Instagram of herself sporting 2023 glasses and popping a bottle of champagne.

The superstar added, “I’ll be ringing 2023 in on stage!! I dress up to the nines on NYE and I would love it if those of you that come would too! Let’s go all out black tie vibes.”

The newly added concerts will take place on Dec. 30 and 31. The presale for those registered through Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan program will begin at 10 a.m. PT on Wednesday (Nov. 23).

Billboard was in attendance for the spectacular opening night (Nov. 18) of Adele’s residency, where the singer mesmerized the Sin City crowd with performances of her chart-topping hits and showcased her brilliantly bawdy sense of humor. Brockhampton Ends at the Fonda: Inside the Boy Band’s Final Show in L.A.

At around 11:30 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 19), a handful of fans were bundled up in beach chairs and tents along the Fonda Theatre’s parking lot fence in L.A. “BROCKHAMPTON ENDS AT THE FONDA,” the venue’s marquee sign read. The kids were camping out in hopes of getting tickets to Brockhampton’s final show, and on the night of the event, naturally, the line was wrapped around the block.

Brockhampton declared it “BH Weekend” two days prior when they announced the show and released their final two albums, The Family and TM. Live-streamed on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel, the concert was free, and starting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, fans were able to get wristbands from the venue on a first come, first served basis, guaranteeing them a ticket to the show the following day.

The concert came as a surprise to fans since the group said their last two shows would be at Coachella earlier this year. Inside the Fonda, the floor slowly began to fill up in the hour preceding the show, which was scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. The balcony was reserved for Brockhampton’s guests, including their family and their label, RCA. Dua Lipa was also attendance and fans spotted Tyler, the Creator as he slipped out at the end.

By 8:05 p.m., Kevin Abstract slowly walked on stage to Celine Dion‘s “All By Myself” before erupting into “Big P—y.” The band’s six other vocalists — Matt Champion, Joba, Bearface, Jabari Manwa, Merlyn and Dom McLennon — joined him shortly after and the boys played songs from each of their albums dating back to their debut studio album 2017’s Saturation.

Unlike their previous performances, the set design this time around was minimal. Only a wide, black staircase sat towards the back of the stage, and was used as a resting spot for the band in between songs. The boys also didn’t wear matching outfits this time, like their varsity jackets at Coachella earlier this year or their orange jumpsuits from their 2017 Camp Flog Gnaw Festival set, but looked as if they arrived separately to the show in clothes they had been wearing all the day. Yet, the crowd didn’t seem to notice or care, as they sang every word to every song with their favorite boy band for the last time.

“Brockhampton’s just like, acceptance and so many things that are important to me, and just changed everything. Thank you so much,” a front-row fan named Brendan said when asked why he likes Brockhampton. Brendan, who was also celebrating his birthday, was then invited on-stage for “Bleach.”

As the show went on, fans were lost in the moment, but there was an undeniable bittersweet feeling amongst the crowd. Like the fans, it seemed as though Brockhampton was excited to release some pent-up energy. The guys were running around the stage and jumping up and down, but it also felt like they were trying to get the show over with the way they transitioned between songs. There was little chatter in-between tracks too, except for the fan interaction and Merlyn introducing his former bandmates at the end. At one point, Abstract got a fan so hype, he almost jumped across the rail and climb on-stage.

By 9:39 p.m., the group walked off after performing “New Shoes” from TM. Naturally, fans began chanting “One more song!” and two minutes later, Bearface came back out to sing his solo ballad, “Summer.” They all then closed out the show for real with “Boogie.”

And while they didn’t take a group bow at the end, Brockhampton still made sure to provide a tad bit of closure. “Thank you very much, thanks for everything,” said Abstract. “See you guys, when we see you.”

BTS’ Jung Kook Mesmerizes With Live Debut of ‘Dreamers’ at 2022 World Cup Opening Ceremony

Let the games begin! BTS‘ Jung Kook helped launch the 2022 FIFA World Cup with a show-stopping performance of his new song “Dreamers.”

The K-pop superstar took the stage at Qatar’s Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday (Nov. 20), shortly after the official release of the uplifting anthem, which features Qatari singer and producer Fahad Al Kubaisi.

Dressed in all black and surrounded by a group of dancers, Jung Kook gave the first live performance of “Dreamers” during the event. He was later joined onstage by Al Kubaisi.

The track is part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 soundtrack that includes contributions from artists like Nicki Minaj, Maluma, Davido, Myriam Fares, and others. A music video for “Dreamers” will drop on Wednesday (Nov. 23).

“Dreamers,” Jung Kook’s third solo track this year, follows February’s “Stay Alive” (produced by his bandmate Suga) and “Left & Right” (his Billboard Hot 100 summer hit with Charlie Puth).

The new song features production from RedOne, the pop-dance producer who joined FIFA in late 2021 as Creative Entertainment Executive and has helped helm signature hits for superstars like Minaj, Lady Gaga, and Enrique Iglesias.

Shooting at Gay Nightclub in Colorado Leaves 5 Dead, 18 Injured

A 22-year-old gunman opened fire in a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs, killing five people and injuring 18 before he was subdued by “heroic” patrons and arrested by police who arrived on the scene within about five minutes, police said Sunday (Nov. 20).

Two firearms, including a “long rifle,” were found at the scene at Club Q, said Colorado Springs Police Department Chief Adrian Vasquez.

“At least two heroic people” confronted the gunman and stopped the shooting, the chief said, adding: “We owe them a great debt of thanks.”

Authorities received the report of a shooting at Club Q at 11:57 p.m. Saturday, said Lt. Pamela Castro of the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The violence is the sixth mass killing this month and comes in a year when the nation was shaken by the deaths of 21 in a school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.

Castro said the suspect was injured but didn’t know how and that the FBI was on the scene.

Attorney General Merrick Garland has been briefed on the shooting, Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley said. The FBI said it was providing assistance to Colorado Springs police, but said the police department was leading the investigation.

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, who became the first openly gay man in the United States to be elected governor in 2018, said the news was “sickening.”

“My heart breaks for the family and friends of those lost, injured, and traumatized in this horrific shooting. I have spoken with Mayor (John) Suthers and clarified that every state resource is available to local law enforcement in Colorado Springs,” Polis said. “Colorado stands with our LGTBQ community and everyone impacted by this tragedy as we mourn.”

Although a motive in the shooting wasn’t yet clear, nor were the gender identities of the victims, the incident came as anti-gay rhetoric has intensified by extremists. In a statement, Club Q termed the shooting a hate attack.

“Club Q is devastated by the senseless attack on our community,” the club posted on its Facebook page. It said its prayers were with victims and families, adding: “We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack.”

The shooting came during Transgender Awareness Week and hours before Sunday’s International Transgender Day of Remembrance, when events around the world are held to mourn and memorialize transgender people lost to violence. The Colorado Springs shooting was sure to bring special resonance to Sunday’s events.

Club Q is a gay and lesbian nightclub that features a “Drag Diva Drag Show” on Saturdays, according to its website.

In addition to the drag show, Club Q’s Facebook page said planned entertainment included a “punk and alternative show” preceding a birthday dance party, with a Sunday “all ages brunch.”

Colorado Springs is a city of about 480,000 located about 70 miles (112 kilometers) south of Denver that is home to the U.S. Air Force Academy, as well as Focus on the Family, a prominent evangelical Christian ministry.

In November 2015, three people were killed and eight wounded at a Planned Parenthood clinic in the city when authorities say a man opened fire because he wanted to wage “war” on the clinic because it performed abortions.

The shooting brought back memories of the 2016 massacre at the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, that killed 49 people. And it occurred in a state that has experienced several notorious mass killings, including at Columbine High School in 1999, a movie theater in suburban Denver in 2012 and at a Boulder supermarket last year.

Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff of California said on Twitter he was “sickened and horrified” by the shooting, adding: “The LGBTQ+ community is once again the target of the most terrible violence. And devastating attacks like these will only become more common if we don’t fight back. It must stop.”

Rep.-elect Eric Sorensen, who is Illinois’ first openly gay congressman, tweeted that “we must use loud voices to stand up against hate. Our country must turn down the hateful rhetoric aimed at our LGBTQ community.”

In June, 31 members of the neo-Nazi group Patriot Front were arrested in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and charged with conspiracy to riot at a Pride event. Experts warned that extremist groups could see anti-gay rhetoric as a call to action.

The previous month, a fundamentalist Idaho pastor told his small Boise congregation that gay, lesbian and transgender people should be executed by the government, which lined up with similar sermons from a Texas fundamentalist pastor.

There have been 523 mass killings since 2006 resulting in 2,727 deaths as of Nov. 19, according to The Associated Press/USA Today database on mass killings in the U.S.

The uplifting anthem features vocals from Jung Kook, the third solo track from the youngest BTS member this year following February’s “Stay Alive” (produced by his bandmate Suga) and “Left & Right” (his Hot 100 summer hit with Charlie Puth). Qatari singer and producer Fahad Al Kubaisi also features on the track. The 41-year-old also dropped two singles earlier this year, with both Arab-pop tracks earning millions of streams on YouTube: “Aghnni” has more than 9.5 million views while “Yousfi Al Halla” has over three million.

As previously reported, “Dreamers” is part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 soundtrack that includes contributions from artists like Nicki Minaj, Maluma, Davido, Myriam Fares and more. The music video for “Dreamers” will release on Nov. 23.

After the festivities begin with the opening ceremony and “Dreamers” performance, World Cup host nation Qatar will play against Ecuador. A total of 32 teams are participating in the World Cup and one will be crowned champion on Dec. 18.

Cher Presents Diane Warren With Honorary Oscar at Governors Awards in L.A.

Diane Warren has famously gone 0-13 at the Academy Awards in the best original song category, but on Saturday Nov. 19, she finally won an Oscar, albeit an honorary one, at the 13th Governors Awards put on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. The event, which also honored directors Peter Weir and Euzhan Palcy and film and TV star Michael J. Fox, was held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles.

“I’ve waited 34 years to say this: ‘I’d like to thank the Academy’,” Warren said in her acceptance speech. She also joked, “Mom, I finally found a man.” Gazing at the Oscar statue, she added, “I know you wanted him to be a nice Jewish boy, but it’s really hard to tell.”

Cher presented Warren with the award and stayed close during Warren’s acceptance speech. Warren expressed her appreciation, but in a humorous way: “Cher doesn’t go east of the 405 for anybody.” (Warren wrote Cher’s biggest and best hit of the 1980s, “If I Could Turn Back Time,” as well as her showcase song in the 2010 film Burlesque, “You Haven’t Seen the Last of Me.”)

Warren has been called the Susan Lucci of the Oscars because she has lost so many times. But on Saturday, Warren framed it differently. “13 times my songs have been chosen. That’s a pretty big f—ing win.”

Warren, 66, is one of only nine songwriters in Oscar history to amass 13 or more nominations for best original song. And she is the first person primarily known as a songwriter to receive an honorary Oscar. Previous honorary Oscars have been awarded to three famed film composers — Alex North, Lalo Schifrin and Ennio Morricone. These awards date back to 1950.

Warren remembered seeing Born Free, with John Barry’s Oscar-winning song and score, in 1966 (when she was 10). “It wrecked me,” she said. “It showed me the beauty of music in the movies.”

Warren’s speech was preceded by a tribute film (produced by Bess Kargman) that included insightful comments from Toni Braxton, Celine Dion, Lady Gaga, Clive Davis, Quincy Jones and more.

Many praised Warren’s fierce work ethnic. David Foster, who produced Dion’s recording of “Because You Loved Me,” said “Work is all she knows. Work is all she cares about. She writes this stuff by herself in this miserable room of hers.”  The visual was of a cluttered room that was indeed less grand than you might expect for such a successful songwriter.

In the film, Cher noted with amusement that Warren always tells her, for every song she writes, “This is the best song I have ever written.”

Jennifer Hudson marveled, “I’ve never met or seen anyone that passionate about what they do.”

Jones simply said “She’s a mother f—er. My kind of girl.”

Warren has a ways to go to become the female with the most Oscar nominations. Legendary fashion designer Edith Head amassed 35. But you wouldn’t want to bet against the tireless Warren.

Woody Harrelson presented the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award to Fox, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease at age 29. In 2000, Fox launched the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which is the leading Parkinson’s organization in the world. Fox, 61, thanked, among others, Bruce Springsteen for his 1984 song “No Surrender,” which, Fox said, has been “a personal anthem” for him.

Jeff Bridges presented an honorary award to Weir, the director of such films as The Year of Living Dangerously, Witness, Dead Poets Society, The Truman Show and Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. Like Warren, Weir has been a perennial Oscar bridesmaid. He has gone 0-6 at the awards, despite four nominations for directing, one for writing and one for best picture. Weir is 78 and retired.

Viola Davis presented an honorary award to Palcy, who was hailed as the first Black woman to direct a major Hollywood film. Palcy, 64, directed Sugar Cane Alley and A Dry White Season. (Mindy Kaling, who opened the show with some witty remarks, said of A Dry White Season: “Until recently that’s what I called awards season.”)

The four honorees reflect the Academy’s stepped-up global outlook. Weir was born in Australia; Palcy in the French West Indies, Fox in Canada and Warren in the U.S.

The honorary award is given “to honor extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or for outstanding service to the Academy.”

The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award is given “to an individual in the motion picture arts and sciences whose humanitarian efforts have brought credit to the industry.”

Jennifer Fox produced the event for the fourth year. Rob Paine was supervising producer. The show was directed by Jonathan X and written by Jon Macks. Rickey Minor served as music director.

My first memory with soccer, now that I’m thinking about it, was in Guayaquil in my house. I liked playing it in my backyard. I have to be honest, I’m not the biggest soccer fan but I understand the euphoria it causes and I’ve lived it, and I think that the feeling doesn’t compare to anything else. I remember that for Ecuador’s first World Cup in 2002, I was about six years old, and remember hearing the entire city screaming “goal” and celebrating. That emotion of seeing an entire country united is not produced by anything else. The country could be facing a bad situation but that goal changes everything.

I’ve always wanted to do a song for my country and I thought it was very important to bring that patriotic feeling. I feel that being an Ecuadorian artist living in the exterior, you realize how important and magical your country is. Ever since I began my career, I had my country and flag very present in everything I do. I worked on “Donde Nací” by myself — it’s a gift that I wanted to give to my country. This song, and the World Cup, bring positivity and joy to my country. 

Once the song was done, I wanted to send it to the Ecuadorian Football Federation to see different ways I can promote it. Everyone loved the song but it was too late, and that’s when I changed the song’s chorus to: “They tell me no, I say yes, that’s how we are where I was born.” I believe that I owe this spirit of perseverance 100% to my country. I released the song only on social media, and a lot of people in my country began reacting to it and creating content with it, and I felt, at that moment, that I already won.

I’m a fan of la tri, of my team, because they represent my country. I feel that living in the exterior, your flag weighs more. I may not be the biggest soccer fan in the world but if la tri is playing, I’m there.

I’m confident that this will be the best World Cup for Ecuador. Winning the entire tournament may seem so unreachable, but why not? We have an incredible team. If Ecuador were to win the World Cup, it will signify so much. Going beyond fútbol, I think it will change the situation in our country and will mark a rebirth.

Lizzo Welcomes Cardi B, Missy Elliott to the Stage in Los Angeles

Two very special guests took the stage at Lizzo‘s Friday night (Nov. 18) concert at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California.

Missy Elliott joined the singer on “Tempo,” from Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You album, and Cardi B reunited with Lizzo for their Hot 100 hit “Rumors.”

“My face after @MissyElliott surprised us last night! Being on stage w you is a DREAM but knowing you is unfathomable! My absolute ICON! I love you 5EVA! thank you!” Lizzo gushed on Saturday on Twitter, where she shared a heartwarming image of the pair embracing in a hug.

“You are one of a kind lizzo & I love watching you perform so much STAMINA!!” Missy wrote back. “You are a Star & the crowd LOVE you! Your HUMILITY & HEART trumps everything! I love you & I am Humbly Grateful to have shared the stage with you.”

“I am a Fan of Cardi B!” Lizzo also tweeted. “I been following her since before love&hiphop… But as much as I fan over her as an artist, who she is as a PERSON is UNMATCHED. @iamcardib thank U for always coming thru for me, for standing up for us when you don’t have to. U the peoples champ! I LOVE U.”

Cardi then wrote, “Lizzo show was amazing !It was very pretty,very positive and I saw Missy Elliot.”

Lizzo returns to the Kia Forum for another show Saturday night, wrapping the North American leg of her tour for 2022.

Skittles Reminds Fans Not to Throw Skittles at Harry Styles With Full-Page L.A. Times Ad

“Protect the rainbow. Taste the rainbow. But please, don’t throw the rainbow,” a full-page print advertisement in the Los Angeles Times reads, Skittles announced on Saturday (Nov. 19). The ad is the brand’s latest reaction to Harry Styles getting an eyeful of Skittles thrown at his face at a concert earlier this week.

On Saturday, the candy brand released a similar image on social media, along with the tweet: “PSA: Protect your eyes from Skittles (by eating them, not throwing them).”

The ad features a large pair of heart-shaped, protective eyewear in homage to Styles’ “Watermelon Sugar” sunglasses.

Styles was hit with Skittles while performing “Kiwi” at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, on Monday night (Nov. 14). Footage of the unfortunate moment circulated online, and by Thursday, Skittles issued a bulletin on social media: “Didn’t think I needed to say this: Please don’t throw Skittles,” read the message.

The singer has had a variety of objects aimed his way while performing on his Love On Tour, from chicken nuggets to an unidentified object that hit him in the groin area.
