REZZ, “Suffer In Silence”

The Artist: Veteran bassmonger REZZ.

The Spiel: The Canadian queen of mid-tempo womp, Isabelle Rezazadeh delivers her second single of the year with “Suffer In Silence,” which (in the grand tradition of her catalog) pummels and transfixes with ominous swagger.

The Artist Says: “‘Suffer In Silence’ has been a consistent track in my shows over the last year,” says Rezazadeh. “I made it while experiencing severe insomnia that lasted almost six full days. It creeped me out while I was working on it, but I knew I had to finish it to encapsulate that period of time.”

The Vibe: Hallucinatory and vaguely disturbing, like not sleeping for almost six full days.

Nicole Moudaber, “Intentionally”

The Artist: Lebanon-born techno globetrotter Nicole Moudaber.

The Label: MOOD

The Spiel: If techno is your thing, you cannot go wrong with “Intentionally,” a six-minute sonic portal built on an insistent bordering on aggressive kick, upon which Moudaber layers high hat, squiggly synth and other layers, ultimately building to something surprisingly celestial. The track comes alongside a sharp-edged remix by Moudaber’s longtime friend, Carl Cox.

The Vibe: You’ve been at Space Miami for 36 hours and have no current plans to leave.

Gorgon City, “Voodoo”

The Artists: U.K. stalwarts Gorgon City

The Label: Astralwerks

The Spiel: Call it a hot streak. After dropping one of our favorite tracks of 2022 with “Sidewindah” and following that up with the slightly more low-key but similarly weighty garage anthem “Rumblah” earlier this year, the Gorgon City guys get decidedly more celestial with “Voodoo,” an anthem about the alchemy of romance that balances prismatic vocals with a heady, sort of celestial progressive house production.

The Vibe: Falling in love on the dancefloor, again.

Jamies Jones, “Lose My Mind”

The Artist: The indisputable club king, Jamie Jones.

The Label: Helix Records

The Spiel: Spring has sprung, y’all. The clocks are an hour ahead, the days are longer and we’re now just weeks away from opening weekend in Ibiza. Naturally, one of dance’s most reliable vibe shepherds Jamie Jones, is setting the tone for the season with a disco-tinged house anthem as pleasant as a warm breeze off the Mediterranean.

The Artist Says: “I really wanted to continue on the vibe that my song ‘My Paradise’ brought last year,” says Jones, “but this time I  wanted a full original vocal track. This song is inspired by the early 2000’s filtered disco house era.”

The Vibe: Champagne and sunshine.

Nora En Pure, “Indulgence”

The Artist: South African-born, Switzerland-based deep house fav Nora En Pure.

The Label: Enormous Tunes

The Spiel: Nora En Pure drops her first single of the year with the achingly pretty, piano-flecked “Indulgence,” which grows much weightier when she drops some heavy, almost fuzzy synth slabs into the mix. Listen for it during her Coachella sets next month.

The Vibe: You’re indulging, but like, on green juice and pure bliss.

Glendale Mayor Reveals Arizona City’s New Name in Honor of Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour

Welcome to Swift City! On Monday (March 13), Mayor Jerry Weiers of Glendale, Ariz., officially renamed the city to honor the kickoff of Taylor Swift‘s The Eras Tour this weekend.

“And now therefore, I, Jerry P. Weiers, mayor of the city of Glendale, on behalf of our city council, do hereby proclaim that on March 17 and 18, 2023, the city of Glendale will be renamed Swift City,” he said in a ceremonial press conference to share the news before sneaking in a couple of lyrical references. “And all Swifties are encouraged to share their smiles that could light up this whole town on all the social media platforms because the best people in life are free.”

After the back-to-back shows at the newly christened Swift City’s State Farm Arena, Swift will chart a course to Las Vegas; Arlington, Tex.; Tampa, Fla.; Houston; Atlanta and beyond.

On the same day that Glendale became Swift City, the superstar also launched a new tour-centric portal on her official website, complete with access to The Eras Tour merch, personalized playlists, countdowns to each and every stop on the tour and more.

GAYLE, who will be opening the Arizona shows along with Paramore, recently shared her own reaction to the “Anti-Hero” singer asking her to come on the tour. “It just means the world to me and it just was really validating for me, and especially at a very overwhelming time,” the “abcdefu” singer said in an interview with Apple Music 1. “I had no clue what I was going to do this year. I was like, ‘Oh my God, I had the best year of my life. What am I going to do next year?’ And she was like, ‘Here’s something to add to your calendar.’”

The duo matched in all black, with the supermodel rocking a Dolce & Gabbana sequined gown. The Maroon 5 frontman, meanwhile, wore a sleek black suit with a V-neck t-shirt underneath, complete with a bleached buzzcut.

Neither Levine nor Prinsloo have publicly announced the baby’s arrival, and have not yet shared the sex or name. The couple’s new addition joins big sisters 6-year-old daughter Dusty Rose and 4-year-old Gio Grace. “It’s zoned defense, as they say. It’s awesome,” the musician previously told Ryan Seacrest during an recent appearance on On-Air With Ryan Seacrest. “I love the chaos. I embrace the chaos.”

The Victoria’s Secret model shared the news that she and the “Moves Like Jagger” singer were expecting back in September, when she posted a casual photo on Instagram showing off her baby bump. However, the exciting news was somewhat overshadowed by a texting scandal involving Levine last fall, in which Instagram model Sumner Stroh shared alleged flirtatious messages exchanged between her and the singer. Stroh claimed she and Levine saw each other for a year and that in June, Levine asked if it would be OK to name his baby “Sumner” if it was a boy — just a few days after it was confirmed that Prinsloo was pregnant with the couple’s third child.

Levine denied having an affair, but took responsibility for having “poor judgement in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner.”

SEVENTEEN Reveals New Album Is Coming Soon During Carat Land Show: ‘It Will Be a Month to Remember’

CARATs, are you ready? SEVENTEEN is gearing up to release new music sometime next month, the K-pop group’s label, Pledis Entertainment, confirmed in a statement Monday (March 13).

“K-pop stage-breakers SEVENTEEN hinted at yet another grand year ahead as they wrapped up their three-day fan meet ‘2023 SVT 7TH FAN MEETING,’” the statement read. “In celebration of the close bond between SEVENTEEN and their fans — CARATs — the band delivered for-hour shows dedicated to the fans and revealed plans for their next album set to drop in April.”

The confirmation from Pledis about SEVENTEEN’s forthcoming music comes after group member S.Coups revealed the news during the first of three nights in the 2023 SEVENTEEN in Carat Land fan meeting in Seoul. “Some day in April, we will be back with a great album. We will be back to make your April great,” he said during a break in the set in a fan-captured video.

According to a press release, the band also confirmed by telling fans, “We are releasing our next album in April. We’re proud of our work, and we promise it will be a month to remember.”

SEVENTEEN has not released music as a group since July, with the re-released version Face the Sun, the K-pop stars’ repackaged album SECTOR 17. Face the Sun peaked at No. 7 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, and peaked three spots higher at No. 4.

While fans will have to wait for details regarding SEVENTEEN’s next album release, there are a few events in the works for the group later in spring. The SEVENTEEN 2023 JAPAN FAN MEETING ‘LOVE’ will hit Japan in May, taking over Kyocera Dome Osaka and Tokyo Dome across four dates.

Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, Offset & More: All the Musicians at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party

After the Oscars, A-list music stars came out in droves for the famous Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday night (March 12).

Couples like Offset and Cardi B, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner and Rita Ora and Taika Waititi all turned heads while hand-in-hand on the Vanity Fair carpet, while Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo were all smiles making one of their first public appearances as a couple following the Maroon 5 rocker’s recent texting scandal at the tail end of 2022.

The annual fête is also another chance for famous faces to turn the fashion up to 100 in the wake of the Oscars champagne carpet, and this year was no exception. Olivia Rodrigo served all the Y2K fantasy in a chic leopard-print gown by Valentino and Sabrina Carpenter stunned in a sheer illusion gown by Paco Rabanne with strategically placed appliqués adding to the high-fashion moment. Billie Eilish, on the other hand, opted for voluminous glamour in an all-black goth-inspired ensemble as she walked the carpet with boyfriend Jesse Rutherford of The Neighborhood.

In a night dominated by neutrals, Saweetie bucked the trend by donning a bright green, high-low ball gown with a dramatic capelet covering her shoulders. Chloe x Halle also reunited for the party after the latter premiered a new look at her upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid during the Oscars telecast with co-star Melissa McCarthy.

The menswear at the Vanity Fair bash didn’t disappoint either, whether it was Ricky Martin serving dashing old Hollywood glamour with a twist thanks to his tuxedo’s oversized lapels or a newly blond-ish Troye Sivan arriving in a Matrix-esque leather bodysuit and matching belt.

Watch YOASOBI’s New ‘Adventure’ Music Video With Scenes From Universal Studios Japan

YOASOBI shared the new music video accompanying its new release “Adventure,” a song written for Universal Studios Japan theme park.

“Adventure” was released Feb. 15 as the theme for USJ’s limited-offer spring campaign that encourages students to “make unforgettable spring memories” — the season of graduation and new beginnings in Japan where the school year begins in April.

The uplifting track is based on an episode that took home YOASOBI’s Grand Prize last year in a competition that invited submissions about “unforgettable memories from school days at the (USJ) park.” The title of the winning episode by Nagi can be roughly translated to “sparkling moments beyond the lens.”

The music video directed by Jun Tamukai is a fusion of live-action and animation, featuring imid’s illustrations of a girl dancing around the actual Universal Studios Japan theme park embellished with CG effects by KASSEN.

Morgan Wallen Charts Single-Week Record 36 Songs on Hot 100 – Every Track From ‘One Thing at a Time’

Morgan Wallen rewrites the record for the most songs simultaneously charted on the Billboard Hot 100, as he sends 36 songs onto the survey (dated March 18, 2023) – the entirety of his new album, One Thing at a Time.

Of those 36 songs, 27 are debuts, also a new one-week record.

Released March 3, the set launches as Wallen’s second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with the largest streaming week ever for a country album, as well as the biggest week by equivalent album units for any album, among all genres, in 2023.

Wallen soars past the previous high set when Drake charted 27 songs on the July 14, 2018-dated Hot 100. Taylor Swift now ranks third with 26 entries on the Nov. 27, 2021-dated chart. As with Wallen, Drake and Swift parlayed big Billboard 200 debuts into their hefty weeks on the Hot 100 in those frames, Drake thanks to Scorpion and Swift by way of Red (Taylor’s Version).

As previously reported, “Last Night” becomes Wallen’s first No. 1 on the Hot 100. He also claims five of the chart’s top 10 – becoming the first core country act to claim half the top 10 in a single week, as well as only the sixth act overall ever to achieve the feat. Three reach the region for the first time: “Thought You Should Know,” up 13-7; “Thinkin’ Bout Me,” new at No. 9; and the set’s title track, which charges 51-10. They join “Last Night” and “You Proof,” Wallen’s former top five hit which rebounds 21-8.

With 27 debuts, Wallen ups his career count of Hot 100 hits from 35 to 62. He first reached the chart nearly five years ago, on the list dated April 7, 2018, with “Up Down,” featuring Florida Georgia Line.

Additionally, Wallen has charted the most songs on the Hot 100 so far in 2023, vaulting from nine to 38 entries in that span, more than double the sum of runner-up SZA, with 16. Karol G ranks third with 11.

Among Wallen’s 36 songs on the new Hot 100, “’98 Braves” shouts out Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves. Speaking of records, the 1998 team won 106 regular-season games, a single-season best over the franchise’s century-and-a-half history, including its eras as the Milwaukee and Boston Braves. It didn’t, however, win the World Series that year. Sings Morgan in the bittersweet song, “Just like that season, girl, you and me didn’t end with a ring on a hand.”

Plus, “Keith Whitley” brings the late country star’s name to the Hot 100. Whitley logged 19 entries on the Hot Country Songs chart in 1984-95, including five No. 1s, all tallied consecutively in 1988-90, among 10 top 10s. The song begins with the lyrics, “I’m no stranger to the rain” – the title of Whitley’s third Hot Country Songs No. 1, in 1989. Whitley is also referenced in Wallen’s “Whiskey Friends.”

TLC & Shaggy to Embark on Hot Summer Nights Tour With Special Guests En Vogue & Sean Kingston: See the Dates

TLC and Shaggy look to warm up the tour circuit with their forthcoming Hot Summer Nights jaunt featuring special guests En Vogue and Sean Kingston.

Slated to kick off June 1 in Alabama, the Hot Summer Nights 2023 Tour will land in major markets, including New York, Miami, California, Texas and more. TLC has a laundry bag of Billboard Hot 100 hits across the ’90s and ’00s. Their four chart-toppers include “Creep,” “Unpretty,” “Waterfalls,” and “No Scrubs.” Last June, Chilli, and T-Boz performed at the Hollywood Bowl with Boyz II Men and left the crowd enthralled with their string of classics. The crown jewel of the night came when T-Boz introduced their performance of “Unpretty.” “This next song is near and dear to my heart because I wrote it from my heart. My boyfriend then made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. With social media now, the song still rings true today.” Then to applause, she added, “I kicked his a– to the curb.”

As for Shaggy, the dancehall titan has a bevy of Hot 100 classics, including chart-toppers “Angel” and “It Wasn’t Me.” In a 2021 interview with Billboard, Shaggy spoke on the importance of emerging dancehall artists breaking through. “I want the new generation to stream better than me because it boosts the genre and gives it a seat at the table. It gives us some sort of presence where corporate wants to f–k with us. It helps the culture with tourism. It’s a big part of our economy. When you beat me, that’s when we’re forced to be reckoned with.”

Watch Halle Bailey Fangirl Over Meeting Jamie Lee Curtis on the 2023 Oscars Red Carpet

Halle Bailey, you are all of us. Freaking out just like anyone would upon meeting a super famous actress, the 22-year-old Little Mermaid star reacted excitedly when she crossed paths with Jamie Lee Curtis Sunday night (March 12) on the Oscars red carpet.

The sweet moment was captured in the middle of Bailey’s red carpet interview with Variety, during which a reporter advocated for the singer-actress by waving Curtis over and saying, “Jamie, someone wants to meet you.”

Meanwhile, as Curtis made her way over, Bailey nervously whispered, “Oh my god.”

“I know who you are,” the Halloween actress graciously told Bailey, who’d begun introducing herself.

“I’m such a big fan,” the Chloe x Halle musician told Curtis. “You look beautiful, you look so pretty!”

After Curtis posed for a photo with Bailey, squeezed her admirer’s hand before walking away, Bailey gushed, “She’s so nice!”

“Oh my gosh, so many!” she added when asked to name her favorite of Curtis’ films. “Freaky Friday is the one that comes up for me.”

Both Bailey and Curtis had blockbuster evenings at Sunday night’s awards show. Curtis took home her first ever Oscar, earning best supporting actress for her role in this year’s best picture winner, Everything Everywhere All At Once. And Bailey — who looked stunning in an aptly aqua-colored gown fit for a princess — joined costar Melissa McCarthy in debuting the first official trailer for their live-action The Little Mermaid remake during the Oscars telecast.

Morgan Wallen Notches First Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 With ‘Last Night’

Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” leaps from No. 5 to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the country star’s first leader on the list. The song, which hit its prior No. 3 high four weeks ago, and debuted five weeks ago, is from his new 36-track album, One Thing at a Time. Released March 3, the set launches as Wallen’s second No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, with the largest streaming week ever for a country album, as well as the biggest week by equivalent album units for any album, among all genres, in 2023.

Wallen also claims five of the Hot 100’s top 10 – becoming the first core country act to stake out half the top 10 in a single week, as well as only the sixth act overall ever to achieve the feat. All five songs are from One Thing at a Time, including three in the region for the first time: “Thought You Should Know,” up 13-7; “Thinkin’ Bout Me,” new at No. 9; and the set’s title track, which charges 51-10. Here’s a look at the Hot 100 coronation for “Last Night.” Released on Big Loud / Mercury / Republic Records, the song becomes the 1,147th No. 1 since the chart began in August 1958.

Streams, airplay & sales: “Last Night” drew 47.5 million streams (up 59%, good for the Hot 100’s top Streaming Gainer award) and 10.8 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 81%) and sold 18,000 (up 12%) March 3-9.

The track jumps 3-1 on the all-genre Streaming Songs chart, where, as on the Hot 100, it becomes Wallen’s first leader. It flies 41-29 on the Country Airplay chart and, being promoted to pop radio, climbs 34-32 on Pop Airplay and debuts at No. 40 on Adult Pop Airplay.

Historic Hot 100 & Hot Country Songs No. 1s: As “Last Night” leads the Hot Country Songs chart, which uses the same methodology as the Hot 100, for a fifth week, it becomes just the 20th song to have topped both tallies. It’s the first since Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” on the charts dated Nov. 27, 2021 – and the first by a solo male unaccompanied by any other acts in over 42 years, since Eddie Rabbitt’s “I Love a Rainy Night” ruled Hot Country Songs for a week in January 1981 and the Hot 100 for two weeks that February-March.

Of the 20 songs listed above, 12 were concentrated in 1973-83. Meanwhile, Glen Campbell, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and Swift are the only acts with two songs each that have crowned both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts.

Big week for Big Loud, Mercury & Republic: Big Loud Records achieves its first Hot 100 No. 1 with Wallen’s “Last Night.” The Nashville-based label formed in 2011.

Mercury Records tops the Hot 100 for the first time since Taio Cruz’s “Break Your Heart” ruled for a week in March 2010. The label, whose history dates to 1945, first led over 64 years ago, with The Platters’ “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” in January 1959.

Republic Records, meanwhile, succeeds itself atop the Hot 100, a week after The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s “Die for You” surged to No. 1. Republic, which began in 1995, wrapped at No. 1 on the 2022 Hot 100 Labels recap and has earned the distinction in nine of the last 11 years.

Victorious ‘Voice’ vocalist: Wallen notches the first Hot 100 No. 1 for a contestant from NBC’s The Voice, which has run for 23 seasons, dating to its April 2011 premiere. (Its latest season began March 6.) He competed in the series’ sixth season, in 2014, and was eliminated in playoff rounds. “I didn’t feel like I was the best I could have been,” Wallen told Billboard in reflection of his run on the show. (He first hit Billboard’s charts in November 2016, by then signed to Big Loud.) “So, I practiced harder and really tried to make my voice second nature.”

Wallen with 5 of top 10: Wallen stockpiles half the Hot 100’s top 10, with “Last Night” at No. 1 followed by “Thought You Should Know” (13-7); “You Proof” (21-8, after hitting No. 5 last October); “Thinkin’ Bout Me” (No. 9 debut); and “One Thing at a Time,” the new LP’s title cut (51-10).

Wallen ups his career count of Hot 100 top 10s from five to eight, thanks to “Thought” (33.4 million in radio airplay audience; 20.5 million streams, up 56%), “Thinkin’ ” (20.7 million streams, 7,700 sold in its first week) and “Thing” (21.4 million streams, up 156%; 6.7 million in airplay audience, up 87%). “Thought” led the Country Airplay chart for three weeks beginning in February, becoming Wallen’s eighth and most recent No. 1, while “Thing” is now being promoted to country radio and soars 36-25 on Country Airplay.

“Proof” drew 21.8 million streams (up 58%) and 20 million in airplay audience in the tracking week. The song topped Country Airplay for a record 10 weeks in October-January.

Wallen becomes the first core country act to log at least half the Hot 100’s top 10 in a single week, and only the sixth act overall to achieve the feat. (Drake has posted three such weeks and The Beatles, who inaugurated the exclusive club in 1964, two.)

Save the ‘last’ for best: Occasionally, “last” shall be first on the Hot 100. Wallen’s “Last Night” is just the fifth song with “last” in its title to lead the list. Here’s a recap:

We love reign-y “night”s: “Last Night” also marks the first “night”-titled Hot 100 No. 1 since Maroon 5’s “One More Night,” which led for nine weeks in 2012. Wallen scores the 30th such No. 1 (including variations “nights,” “midnight” and “tonight” in song titles).

As for the five songs in the latest Hot 100’s top 10 not by Wallen, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” leads them at No. 2, where it holds after spending its first six weeks on the chart at No. 1. It commands the Radio Songs chart for a fourth week, up 4% to 105.8 million in audience, the highest weekly total since The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” drew 114.6 million (May 23, 2020).

SZA’s “Kill Bill” keeps at No. 3 on the Hot 100 after seven weeks at its No. 2 high. It tops Billboard’s multi-metric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot R&B Songs charts for a 12th week each.

The Weeknd and Grande’s “Die for You” drops to No. 4 on the Hot 100 from No. 1, with 79.5 million in radio reach (down 2%), 28.2 million streams (down 13%) and 2,600 sold (down 81%); PinkPantheress and Ice Spice’s “Boy’s a Liar, Pt. 2” slips 4-5, after hitting No. 3, as it takes top Airplay Gainer honors (20.7 million in audience, up 72%); and Metro Boomin, The Weeknd and 21 Savage’s “Creepin’ ” is steady at No. 6, after reaching No. 3.
