Elton John and His Band Receive Billboard Awards For Making Touring History

It’s a gloriously sunny afternoon in June, and Elton John, sharply dressed in a salmon-pink pinstripe suit bedazzled with his name, is hobnobbing with his longtime band, his crew and his tour promoters in the garden of his elegant, expansive estate in Windsor, just 15 shows away from the end of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour that began five years ago.

But this isn’t just another pre-show soiree: it’s a special gathering organized by AEG’s chairman/CEO Jay Marciano to celebrate some historic chart milestones that Elton and his band have recently set.

The first is that the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour has grossed more than $887 million and sold 5.7 million tickets, with over 300 shows in 20 countries, becoming the top-grossing tour of all time, according to Billboard Boxscore.

The second is that Elton John has become the highest-grossing solo artist and top ticket-selling solo artist ever, grossing nearly $2 billion and selling over 20 million tickets since Billboard Boxscore started tracking data 40 years ago.

“When I started out, I just wanted to play music…I didn’t set out to have the highest-grossing tour of all time,” John told the crowd as he accepted the two awards from Billboard’s editorial director, Hannah Karp, and Billboard’s evp of charts and data partnerships, Silvio Pietroluongo. “Ed Sheeran will be very upset,” the Rocketman added drily, tipping to the fact that his tour surpassed the previous Billboard Boxscore record set by his pal and mentee’s Divide Tour.

John’s generosity extends well beyond inviting everyone to a garden gathering at his home with husband and manager David Furnish. He lauds the many behind-the-scenes players who made the record-setting trek possible, from Marciano to tour director Keith Bradley to longtime agent Howard Rose. And he insists on a standing ovation for head chef Tony Liddell, declaring that the “food on this tour has been the best food ever” in his half century-plus of globetrotting. The audience, which includes tattooed guitar techs, chic designers and some neatly dressed business folk, seems to heartily agree, at least judging by the thunderous clapping.

And, of course, his band – Davey Johnstone, Nigel Olsson, Matt Bissonette, John Mahon, Kim Bullard and Ray Cooper – get their fair share of props, in addition to receiving their own sleek, individualized awards for being part of the top-grossing tour in Billboard Boxscore history. His longtime lyricist, Bernie Taupin, is also given an award for his contributions to John’s achievements.

“It’s quite a wonderful thing to see people rewarded and to see the band get the plaques as well. I couldn’t have done it without the band. They so deserve this,” John says. “I have the best crew and the best band in the world – and that means you, Bruce Springsteen,” he adds with a wink.

The rock icon also had kind words for Billboard, of which he’s remained an avid reader for decades. “Billboard, you know you’re my bible,” he says to Karp and Pietroluongo, also hailing Billboard’s executive editor Melinda Newman – whom he’s been interviewed by numerous times over the years – as a “great person.”

When Sir Elton takes his seat, Marciano assumes the role of emcee with relish (earlier in the show, he quipped, “you never give the concert promoter the mic – now it’s too late”). Marciano surprises John with a lush commemorative tour book that everyone who worked on the trek will receive (“no eBay!” John jokes to his band and crew) before Marciano announces, “And there’s more.” Sir Elton cuts in: “Are you gonna tell them I’m gay now? Sh-t.”

After hailing Furnish as the man with the “master plan of the tour” who overdelivered on his commitments (“I wish there were more like you”), Marciano announces he’s holding a $1 million check for the Elton John AIDS Foundation from Phil Anschutz, Jay Marciano and AEG Presents.

Following that, prizes are doled out – because what is a garden party if there aren’t prizes? And these ones were worth their weight in gold, quite literally. In the vein of the famed yellow brick road, gold bricks — custom designed by Dominic Jones, whose jewelry has been worn by everyone from Amy Winehouse to Beyoncé — were handed out as trivia rewards (each one was made of sustainable gold and minted by the Royal Mint). Earlier in the afternoon, while noshing and mingling, crew members were invited to answer a variety of EJ-related questions on digital kiosks. “How many shows has Elton John played in London over the years?”; “How many notes does Elton play on the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour?”; “What does the DC stand for in DC Parmet?” [Parmet is John’s longtime tour manager]. The answers: 177, 82,500 and… well, perhaps it stands for “Deeply Confidential.” While someone got a prize for the most creative answer, Parmet teased that maybe, just maybe, the truth of that mystery will be unveiled on July 8, when the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour rolls into Sweden for its final show.

“Most remarkable of all to us at Billboard, even as [Elton John] moves such massive, record-setting audiences from the stage, is the support and mentorship and love that he’s given so many people in his life on the most personal of levels,” said Billboard’s Karp. “Billboard doesn’t have a chart to track such data, yet. But if we did, we’re pretty certain he’d be at the top of that one, too.”

Yng Lvcas & Peso Pluma’s ‘La Bebe’ Rules Latin Rhythm Airplay Chart

Yng Lvcas and Peso Pluma achieve their first No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Airplay chart as “La Bebe” advances from No. 2 to lead the list dated June 24. It’s the first team-up where both artists secure their first champ in 2023, and the first since Bizarrap and Quevedo led with “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 52” in 2022.

“La Bebe” takes the lead with 9.4 million audience impressions, a 19% gain from the week prior, earned in the U.S. during the June 9-15 tracking period, according to Luminate.

The new champ on Latin Rhythm Airplay arrives after “La Bebe” topped Latin Digital Song Sales for one week on the April 15-dated ranking. Plus, the song previously reached a No. 2 high on the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts, on Hot Latin Songs, and on Latin Streaming Songs.

As mentioned, as “La Bebe” becomes the reigning champ on Latin Rhythm Airplay, it earns both Lvcas and Pluma their first No. 1, who also secured their maiden entry when the song debuted in the upper half of the ranking (at No. 14) in April.

Previously, both Bizarrap and Quevedo completed the feat when “Vol. 52” crowned Latin Rhythm Airplay for eight weeks starting the Oct. 29, 2022-dated survey.

Further, Yng Lvcas and Pluma are only the third and fourth acts to capture a first leader on the chart in 2023, following Maldy and Baby Rasta’s prior victories through “Gatubela” with Karol G, and “Punto 40” with Rauw Alejandro on the Jan. 7 and Jan. 28-dated lists, respectively.

Elsewhere, “La Bebe” pushes up the overall Latin Airplay tally, to its No. 3 high.

Taylor Swift & Megan Thee Stallion Help Announce U.S. FIFA Women’s World Cup Roster: Watch

The new season of Ted Lasso might have come to a close, but soccer in the real world is just starting to heat up — especially on the women’s side. On Wednesday (June 21), a slew of celebrities ranging from Taylor Swift to Tim Howard joined forces to introduce the official USWNT FIFA Women’s World Cup roster.

Led by President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden, the announcement video featured appearances by global pop sensation Swift, Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal, Emmy-nominated Across the Spider-Verse actress Issa Rae, Tony Award-nominated playwright Tina Fey and Emmy-winning Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay. Other notable appearances included Lil Wayne, Gabrielle Union, Blake Lively, John Cena, Sophia Bush and Quinta Brunson.

In her segment, Swift said, “Hey guys, it’s Taylor! I have been tasked with the incredible responsibility of announcing to you another teammate on the U.S. Women’s World Cup roster. It is my honor to announce to you No. 13, Alex Morgan!” Dedicated Swifties will notice that the “Cruel Summer” singer announced the player who will be wearing her favorite number. “I’m such a fan of the whole team, and I can’t wait to watch you guys play this year,” Swift concluded.

Megan Thee Stallion had the honor of announcing Megan Rapinoe, whom she affectionately nicknamed “The Legend.” “She has shined for years with the women’s soccer team, and she’s going to continue to do so at this year’s World Cup. Congratulations, girl, and bring home another title!” the “Savage” rapper remarked.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup is set to take place from June 20, 2023, to Aug. 20, 2023, in Australia and New Zealand.

Machine Gun Kelly Got a New Tattoo From His Teenage Daughter at Hellfest

Machine Gun Kelly went to Hellfest with his teenage daughter last week and all he got was some fresh ink. The “Emo Girl” rap rocker posted a series of pictures from his slot at the festival in Clisson, France on Tuesday (June 20), beginning with one of 13-year-old Casie Colson Baker wielding a tattoo gun and black surgical gloves as she added to her dad’s formidable collection of tats with a new image on the inside of his right wrist.

While both are smiling in the snap — in which Colson is taking a pic of Casie’s design on his phone for posterity — the series of images do not reveal the teen’s handiwork. Instead they focus on his performance, with one picture from behind capturing his punky spiked hair and the others highlighting the rest of his unique stage attire, including long black shorts embedded with silver rings, a knee-length sleeveless leather duster and body paint on his chest that features the word “war” scrawled across his bellybutton with a white line through it.

“My daughter said summer vacation, we ended up at hellfest,” he captioned the series, which also included images of him standing shirtless on the ledge of his hotel, a snap of father and daughter looking super high-fashion in a Dolce & Gabbana shoot and another cute one in which the rapper holds her hand as he takes a nap in the back seat of a car.

MGK shares Casie with his ex, Emma Cannon; the teen contributed some spoken word bits to dad’s 2022 Mainstream Sellout album alongside Kelly’s pal Pete Davidson on the L.A.-dissing interlude “Wall of Fame.”

It seemed like a pretty epic weekend over all given that it also included Colson teaming up with his heavy metal heroes Mötley Crüe at Hellfest for a live rendition of “The Dirt (Est. 1981),” their 2019 collaboration for the soundtrack to the film adaptation of the band’s biography of the same name.

The 50 Best Songs of 2023 So Far: Staff Picks

Our staff picks the 50 best songs of 2023 so far — the breakthroughs, the comebacks and the total surprises.

It’s a little funny to do a midyear songs list in 2023. More than perhaps any time previously, this year has forced us to ask: What does it even mean for a song to be from “this year”? The Billboard charts are more confusing than ever on those grounds: With 2023 Hot 100 hits from Lady Gaga, Miguel and Tyler, the Creator all originally released in the 2010s, and a No. 1 from The Weeknd coming via a new remix of a 2016 deep cut, old is new again on top 40, and there’s never been less of a dividing line between catalog and current. When even Taylor Swift has to deviate from her planned Midnights promotional cycle to push a song from four albums ago, clearly anarchy reigns on the contemporary pop timeline.

Still, even with the past now in constant competition with the present, 2023 has managed to give us an impressive bounty of genuinely new jams — songs actually making their debut, or poking their head onto the charts for the first time — to keep us from totally drowning in reruns. Rising stars have leveled up with their biggest crossover moments to date, fresh sounds and scenes have made their presence felt on a global scale, and unexpected collaborators have helped push one another to greater chart success. And of course, some of those most-familiar names are back with brand new songs as well as older ones, proving they can still go viral without TikTokers even needing to go digging into their back catalog.

Here are the Billboard staff’s 50 favorite songs of the year so far — still keeping to songs that either were released or first really impacted the charts, though realizing that our definitions are going to have to continue to shift with the times. Pop music is a strange and unpredictable place in 2023, and we wouldn’t have it any other way, really.

BET Awards 2023: Breaking Down the Biggest & Most Star-Studded Best Female Hip-Hop Artist Category Ever

When Nicki Minaj first took home the BET Award for best female hip-hop artist, the 2010s had just begun, Barack Obama was enjoying the halfway point of his presidential term, and the Queens rapper was mere months away from unleashing Pink Friday, her much-anticipated debut studio album, upon the world.

The 2010 race was Minaj’s to lose; her fellow nominees — while all talented in their own rights — simply could not match the “Bedrock” breakout star’s momentum. Ester Dean, an instrumental collaborator on Minaj’s 2011 hit “Super Bass,” could only boast the Chris Brown-featuring “Drop It Low” as her sole single as a lead artist going into the June 2010 ceremony. Lil’ Kim, who picked up three prior nominations in this category between 2001 and 2006, had not released a studio album in five years, due to her finishing out her prison sentence. Rasheeda was coming off her first Billboard 200-charting album, Certified Hot Chick (No. 89), but she was nowhere near the burgeoning crossover sensation that Minaj was at the time. Finally, Trina headed into the race off the strength of her No. 13-peaking Amazin’ album, and she had not placed a single as a lead artist on the Hot 100 in half a decade. Minaj, who was riding high on massively successful singles like Ludacris’ “My Chick Bad” and her own “Your Love,” was the inevitable victor.

Nicki Minaj’s 2010 best female hip-hop artist victory was the beginning of seven consecutive years of domination. While she faced formidable opponents in some of those years (Azealia Banks, Iggy Azalea, Young M.A., and DeJ Loaf among them), Minaj just as often faced competitors that were laughably out of her league in terms of commercial and cultural impact. Take her 2011 victory against “B.B. (Boss Bitch)” rapper LoLa Monroe, or her triumph the following year over “Shake It to the Ground” rapper Rye Rye. Nicki’s victories became so predictable that her “fake surprised” reactions to her wins became a running jokeon social media.

Even before Nicki’s streak began, however, the best female hip-hop artist category was in something of a drought. The category was suspended for the 2007 ceremony, and the 2009 ceremony boasted just three nominees in the category. In the years following her streak, Minaj remained a fixture in the category, but faced heartier competition from the likes of Remy Ma (who won in 2017), Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion (both of whom have bested Minaj twice in the past five years).

This year’s lineup, which features seven of the most successful and defining women in contemporary hip-hop — the largest number of nominees the category has seen in its 22-year existence — is a far cry from the uneven playing field of 2010. In fact, it is a lineup where, for the first time in some years, every nominee is a genuinely plausible winner. Comprised of Minaj, Cardi B, Coi Leray, Ice Spice, GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion and Latto, this year’s best female hip-hop artist lineup boasts a rising generation of female rap talent, as well as the two now-iconic artists who helped paved the way for them.

The bulk of this year’s nominees are the progeny of a combination of Minaj’s Top 40 navigation skills and Cardi B’s social media savvy, making them worthy competitors to the two previous victors. Moreover, this year’s lineup reveals the ways in which hip-hop’s emphasis on regionality has helped bolster the simultaneous sustained mainstream success of multiple female rappers, after so many years where a single artist towered over the conversation, for better or for worse.

Ahead of this Sunday’s BET Awards, Billboard breaks down the resumes of this historic group of best female hip-hop artist nominees and their respective cases for taking home this award.

Dua Lipa Declares ‘Suns Out Huns Out’ in Sparkly Pink Bikini Photoshoot

Dua Lipa‘s hot bikini summer rolls on. Just a few days after announcing that her black-and-white polka-dot bikini was official her 2023 “summer outfit until further notice,” the singer was back at it with another sweltering hot weather look.

“Suns out huns out,” she captioned the series of pics from a rooftop photo shoot in which she models a skimpy, sparkly pink two-piece while clutching a matching purse. The shoot with the suit featuring glittering golden straps connecting the top and bottoms finds Dua leaning on the car, arching her back and sitting on the Caddy’s hood as an unseen assistant off camera sets her long black ponytail aflight using a leaf blower.

The 9-shot reel by photographer Tyrell Hampton features Dua in a series of poses in front of an apartment building under a deep blue sky.

On Monday the singer revealed her go-to summer bikini when she posed in the polka-dot suit with butterfly and ladybug prints from her La Vacanza collection with Versace. Donatella Versace responded to the post, commenting, “An absolute BEAUTY!! This summer is ALL about La Vacanza.”

The duo announced the collection on May 4 along with the Butterfly Medusa Ring (like the suit, covered in butterflies and ladybugs) before debuting the full line at a May 23 runway show in Cannes, France. “Feeling overwhelmed with happiness and still taking in last night!” Lipa wrote after La Vacanza’s debut show. “Creating this collection with my dear dear friend @donatella_versace has been the most incredible insightful and inspiring process that I feel so lucky I got to experience… I feel like the luckiest girl in the world.”

In addition to the suit line, Dua has been promoting her single “Dance the Night,” the lead single from the soundtrack to Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie. She co-wrote the song with soundtrack executive producer Mark Ronson, as well as Andrew Wyatt and Caroline Ailin.

10 First-Timers on Billboard’s Charts This Week: Rob Grant, &ME, That Mexican OT, Dudu Tassa & More

Billboard has more than 200 different weekly charts in its menu, encompassing numerous genres and formats.

While established artists often compete for a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart and Billboard 200 albums ranking, which track the most popular songs and albums of the week, respectively, up-and-coming talents typically start off on genre-specific lists.

Here’s a look at 10 titles by acts who appear on surveys for the first time on the June 24-dated charts.

Rob Grant

Rob Grant and his superstar daughter Lana Del Rey can now both say they’ve hit No. 1 on a Billboard chart. Grant, 70, lands his first-ever chart appearance this week thanks to his debut album, Lost at Sea. Released June 9 via Decca/Interscope Records/IGA, the album debuts at No. 1 on Classical Crossover Albums, No. 2 on Classical Albums, No. 2 on New Age Albums, and No. 75 on the Top Current Album Sales chart with 1,000 equivalent album units earned in the June 9-15 tracking week, according to Luminate. The set, almost entirely instrumental, features two collaborations between Grant and his daughter: the title track and the set’s final track, “Hollywood Bowl” — Dey Rey sings on both songs, while Grant plays piano.

Also contributing to the piano-driven album is the Budapest Art Orchestra and Jack Antonoff, who produced multiple tracks. Antonoff, notably, produced Lana’s Normal Fucking Rockwell! (2019), Chemtrails Over the Country Club (2021) and Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd (2023), which all reached the top five of the Billboard 200.

Grant spent the beginning of his career as a domain-name investor, real estate agent and copywriter (and boating enthusiast). “An accidental recording artist, Grant has never had a lesson on any instrument in his life. No kind of formal musical training at all. He can’t read sheet music,” reads a press release from Decca. “But when he sits down at a piano, something magical happens.”

&ME

Berlin-based producer and house/techno DJ &ME (real name André Boadu) notches his first career chart entry under an artist billing thanks to his new collaboration with Black Coffee, “The Rapture, Pt. III.” The song, released June 9 via Keinemusik, debuts at No. 41 on the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart. While &ME has been releasing music and remixes for more than a decade, he scored a big break last year when Drake recruited him to produce two tracks on his LP Honestly, Nevermind. The songs, “Falling Back” and “A Keeper,” reached Nos. 7 and 21 on the Hot 100, respectively, while the album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. “Falling Back” also hit No. 1 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. &ME has released two solo studio albums: You Are Safe in 2017 and Send Return in 2021.

That Mexican OT & DRODi

Both artists reach Billboard’s charts for the first time with their new collaboration with Paul Wall, “Johnny Dang.” The song, released May 26 through Manifest Music, debuts at No. 44 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and No. 14 on the Hot 100’s Bubbling Under ranking. The title is an ode to the Texas jeweler of the same name, who also appears in the song’s official video. That Mexican OT (real name Virgil Rene Gazca), from Bay City, Texas, has been active in the Houston hip-hop scene lately. He’s released five LPs so far: South Texas Project (2020), Southside Steppin (2021), 1 Double 0 (2021), Nonsense and Mexican Shit (2022) and The Show Must Go On, with Saxkboy KD (2023). Freeport, Texas-based rapper DRODi is a frequent collaborator of That Mexican OT’s. Before “Johnny Gang,” they teamed up on “PADRE,” “SIDEWALK,” “SLAP,” “DRO-T” and “24z” in 2022, and “BOW DOWN” in February.

Dudu Tassa

The Israeli singer-songwriter-producer earns his first chart appearance thanks to his new collaborative album with Jonny Greenwood, Jarak Qaribak. The set, released June 9 via World Circuit/BMG, debuts at No. 68 on the Top Current Album Sales chart with 1,000 downloads sold in its opening week. Tassa is a veteran musician, and a highly regarded figure in Israel’s rock scene. He has released 19 studio albums, dating to his first, יותר ברור, (pronounced Yoter Barur, which means “Clearer” in Hebrew), in 2000. He’s also the leader of the group Dudu Tassa & The Kuwaitis, who opened for Radiohead (where Greenwood plays lead guitar), on their 2017 tour.

Point North

The Los Angeles-based rock band tallies its first chart appearance, thanks to “Safe and Sound” with The Ghost Inside. The song, released Feb. 24 via Hopeless Records, debuts at No. 34 on Mainstream Rock Airplay (up 18% in plays). The group — which is comprised of Jon Lundin (vocals), Andy Hershey (guitar) and Sage Weeber (drums) — is slated to hit the road later this summer, supporting Escape the Fate on its Out of the Shadows Tour. Point North’s new third LP Prepare for Despair is due Aug. 18.

Danae Hays

The comedian and country singer lands on Billboard’s charts with her first-ever release, “Rode Hard.” The song, which she self-released June 14, debuts at No. 8 on Country Digital Song Sales and No. 22 on Digital Song Sales with 2,000 downloads sold. The track also helps the Alabama native debut at No. 34 on the Emerging Artists chart. TikTok has been a significant factor in Hays’ growing profile, as she boasts over 2.5 million followers on the platform.

Joel de La P & Tito Double P

Both artists achieve their first chart entry thanks to their new collaboration with Luis R Conriquez, “Dembow Belico.” The song, released June 3 on Double P Records, debuts at No. 36 on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart. Joel de La P and Tito Double P are both music newcomers. They’re affiliated with Peso Pluma’s newly launched label Double P Records, which he started in April (“La Doble P” is Peso Pluma’s alter ego). Tito Double P has two featured credits on Peso Pluma’s upcoming third studio album Genesis, due June 22: “Gavilán II” and “La People.”

Amarion

The Puerto Rican singer-songwriter arrives with his new collaboration with Ozuna, “Tucu.” The song, released May 25 through Aura/Sony Music Latin, debuts at No. 23 on Latin Rhythm Airplay (up 113% in radio audience). Amarion has been releasing music for almost a decade. He dropped his debut studio album, Mood, in 2021, via AARM LLC. He’s also collaborated with Bryant Myers, Lyanno, Dimelo Flow and Green Cookie, among others.

Lim Young Woong

The South Korean singer and YouTuber lands his first Billboard chart entry thanks to “Grain of Sand.” The song, released June 5 via Dreamus, debuts at No. 102 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart. Prior to his latest track, he had released one studio album: the 12-track set Im Hero in May 2022. He broke through in South Korea after competing in – and winning – the reality talent show Mr. Trot in 2020.

DJ Yus

The Cuban artist scores his first Billboard chart appearance thanks to his breakthrough club hit “Hoy No Se Duerme.” The song, released May 5 via LAUM MUSIC, debuts at No. 25 on Tropical Airplay. DJ Yus has released three additional songs: “Rompe La Bocina” with El Micha and El Chacal in 2018, “Siguete Moviendo” (2019) and “Pa Que Lo Goce” (2020).

Fans Think Olivia Rodrigo Shared a Snippet of New Song ‘Vampire’: Listen

Olivia Rodrigo’s new single arrives on June 30, and fans are analyzing every crumb of content to figure out what the 20-year-old pop phenom has in store for them. Titled “Vampire,” the single will act as the first piece of new non-soundtrack music from Rodrigo since her Grammy-winning blockbuster debut album Sour.

Ahead of the release of Sour back in 2021, the “Drivers License” singer launched the Sour Heartbreak Hotline at 323-622-SOUR (7687). Rodrigo used it to tease snippets of various album tracks leading up to the release of the full record. Recently, fans discovered that the hotline was playing what sounds like new music — and they think it is the first taste of “Vampire.”

The 15-second clip doesn’t give fans much, but the piano chords simultaneously evoke the sonic profile of Sour as well as a song Edward might play for Bella in Twilight. With a title like “Vampire” and cover art that places two lilac bandages over what can only be assumed to be a vampire bite, the connection isn’t too far off, especially since the three-time Grammy winner is a self-professed Twihard.

Rodrigo and go-to collaborator Dan Nigro have been teasing “Vampire” across social media in recent weeks. On June 15, Nigro shared a snap of a grocery store beverage named “Vampire Juice” on his Instagram Story, and on Tuesday (June 20), Rodrigo posted a photo to her Instagram feed with the lyric “How do you lie?” written three times.

Morgan Wallen’s ‘Last Night’ Tops Hot Country Songs for 19th Week, Tying His Longest Reign

Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” adds a 19th week atop Billboard’s streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Hot Country Songs chart (dated June 24), matching his longest command among seven career No. 1s.

“Last Night” retains the Hot Country Songs penthouse as it concurrently dominates Country Airplay for a seventh week (33 million impressions, down 2%). It also drew 29.6 million official streams and sold 7,000 in the United States June 9-15, according to Luminate.

The crossover hit also enters the top 10 on Adult Pop Airplay (11-8) and pushes to No. 9 on Pop Airplay. His ninth Country Airplay leader, it’s his first top 10 on the two pop tallies.

“Last Night” and “You Proof” are now tied with two other tracks for seventh place among the longest reigning titles since Hot Country Songs became an all-encompassing genre ranking in 1958.

Here’s a recap.
The Longest-Leading No. 1s on Hot Country Songs (since 1958):

A ‘Lane’ to the Top 10

Old Dominion scores its 10th Hot Country Songs top 10 as “Memory Lane” pushes 11-10. It’s the act’s first title to reach the tier since “I Was on a Boat That Day” (No. 8 peak, October 2021).

On Country Airplay, “Memory Lane” lifts 9-7 for a new high (23 million, up 12%). Plus, it drew 7.3 million streams and sold 1,000 in the tracking week.

“Memory Lane” follows Old Dominion’s collaboration with Kenny Chesney, “Beer With My Friends,” which hit No. 35 on Hot Country Songs last September. Before that, “No Hard Feelings” reached No. 24 in August 2022. The band posted its initial top 10 with its first of 14 Hot Country Songs entries, “Break Up With Him,” which rose to its No. 3 best in October 2015.
