The ‘Barbie’ Soundtrack Is Here: Stream It Now

It’s officially time to immerse yourself in Barbie World! Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited Barbie film has finally hit theaters on Friday (July 21), and along with the movie release came the official soundtrack.

Executive produced by Academy Award-winning songwriter and producer Mark Ronson, the Barbie soundtrack features a star-studded roster of pop’s biggest hitmakers, including Lizzo, Fifty Fifty, Kali, Gayle, Khalid, Haim and Ava Max. A slew of singles have already been released from the soundtrack, including two that have reached the Billboard Hot 100: Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” (No. 31) and Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice and AQUA’s “Barbie World” (No. 7). Billie Eilish also previously unveiled her introspective ballad, “What Was I Made For,” which is featured on the project.

The film stars Margot Robbie as the iconic doll and Ryan Gosling as Ken. Emma Mackey, Alexandra Shipp, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon and Issa Rae also appear as different Barbies, while John Cena, Ncuti Gatwa, Simu Liu and Scott Evans star as different Kens. Will Ferrell plays Mattel’s CEO, while America Ferrera appears as Gloria and Michael Cera plays Allan.

Ice Spice Drops Deluxe Version of ‘Like..?’ EP: Stream It Now

Ice Spice dropped the deluxe version of her debut EP Like..? Friday (July 21) via 10K Projects/Capitol Records.

Like..? was originally released on Jan. 20, 2023, and included singles “Munch (Feelin’ U),” “Bikini Bottom,” “In Ha Mood” and “Princess Diana,” which later got a remix with Nicki Minaj that debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Lil Tjay-assisted “Gangsta Boo” cut, which samples Diddy‘s “I Need a Girl (Part Two)” featuring Ginuwine, Loon and Mario Winans became Ice’s career-first Hot 100 entry.

The deluxe edition contains three new tracks, “How High,” “Butterfly Ku” and “Deli,” as well as a bonus track titled “On The Radar.” Both versions of “Princess Diana” — the original and the remix with Nicki Minaj, which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 — are also included.

She teased “Deli” on her TikTok earlier this month. “She a baddie, she showin’ her panty/ She shake it like jelly/ Hundred bands in Chanel-y/ But I’m still shakin’ ass in a deli,” Ice rapped in the snippet.

Ice was also named Apple Music’s latest Up Next artist and recently chatted with Zane Lowe about recording and performing with Taylor Swift, having Minaj and Drake as her mentors, touring with Doja Cat soon, inspiring the youth like North West and growing up in the Bronx.

Travis Scott, The Weeknd & Bad Bunny Team Up on ‘KPOP’ Single: Stream It Now

Travis Scott, The Weeknd and Bad Bunny have cracked open the Utopia briefcase just a tad Friday (July 21) to release their new single, “KPOP.”

“KPOP” comes just a week before Scott’s Utopia livestream event at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt on July 28 to launch his first studio album in five years. The Houston rapper released his last album, Astroworld, on Aug. 3, 2018, which topped both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and contained the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single “SICKO MODE” with Drake.

After multiple reports claimed that his concert had been canceled, Live Nation refuted them in a statement to Billboard: “There have been no changes to Travis Scott’s show in Egypt; any reports to the contrary are false. We can’t wait to celebrate Utopia with you in Egypt!”

“KPOP” marks the sixth time Scott and The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) have collaborated, following “Pray 4 Love” from Scott’s 2015 album Rodeo, “Wonderful” from Scott’s 2016 album Birds In the Trap Sing McKnight, “WAKE UP” and “SKELETONS” from Astroworld, and “Power Is Power” alongside SZA on the For the Throne: Music Inspired by the HBO Series Game of Thrones soundtrack.

It marks the third time La Flame and Benito have linked up on a track, after the former hopped on the remix of “Krippy Kush” by Farruko, Nicki Minaj, Bunny and Rvssian, and the latter assisted on the remix of “Know No Better” by Major Lazer, Scott, Camila Cabello and Quavo.

The new collaboration marks The Weeknd and Bad Bunny’s first time on a song together.

Britney Spears & Will.i.am Drop ‘Mind Your Business’ Collaboration: Stream It Now

Move over, “Scream & Shout.” There’s a new Britney Spears, Will.i.am collaboration in the club.

After giving fans just a one-day heads up, the two all-star musicians have dropped their new single “Mind Your Business” — a full decade after first working together on 2012’s “Scream & Shout.”

On the track, Brit and the Black Eyed Peas founder riff over spacey synth ripples, with the Princess of Pop declaring, “Mind your business, b—-.”

The new track also recycles a tagline featured throughout “Scream & Shout”: “You are now rockin’ with Will.i.am and Britney, b—-.”

The project was only announced one day ahead of time, with Will.i.am simply tweeting out a 16-second snippet of the electronic dance track. “UH OH!!! You are now NOW rocking with will.i.am and @britneyspears…????????????????,” he captioned the sneak peek.

New music from Spears is notoriously scarce these days, with the pop star having dedicated much of her time to nurturing her personal life and writing her highly anticipated memoir — The Woman in Me, out Oct. 24 — following the termination of her 13-year conservatorship in November 2021.

But given the success of “Scream & Shout,” which has raked in more than a billion views on YouTube and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, will.i.am makes for a solid choice collaborator to follow up Brit’s 2022 “Hold Me Closer” duet with Elton John. The latter song marked Spears’ first new music release since her 2016 album Glory.

Eslabon Armado Inspires Massive Singalong with ‘Ella Baila Sola’ at Premios Juventud 2023

Eslabon Armado showcased their música mexicana hit-making prowess at Premios Juventud 2023 with a performance of their hit “Ella Baila Sola.”

Armed with invigorating requinto riffs and a standup bass to further amp up the vibe, the California troupe inspired a dance-off at the ceremony, with folks seemingly knowing every lyric to the corridos banger.

Moments before, Eslabon Armado collected their award for best song – regional Mexican music for the popular number, originally sung with July Billboard cover star, Peso Pluma. Unlike some artists who accepted their prizes, the background was lit with the crowd shouting the words to the No. 1 song on Billboard Latin charts. Frontman Pedro Tovar sang part of it too, thrilled, before speaking to the audience.

Eslabon Armado made history with Desvelado, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart.  “It means a lot being No. 1 on Top Latin Albums,” Pedro Tovar told Billboard in May. “It’s probably our favorite album, but we didn’t expect it to go that high. Mainly because I know that people don’t like something at first, but when four, five, six months or a whole year pass by, there’s always that one song that hits, and then everybody is like, ‘Oh, this is my favorite album!’”

On the all-genre Billboard 200, Desvelado opened at No. 6, becoming the highest-ranking ever for a regional Mexican album since December 2014, when the tally began tracking physical units alongside on-demand streaming and digital track sales.

The Colombian powerhouse artist founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation in 1997 to promote education and provide support for vulnerable children in Colombia and various disadvantage communities of the region. The foundation has improved access to quality education, nutrition, and healthcare for underprivileged communities, with a particular emphasis on early childhood development. To date, the foundation has aided 150,000 underprivileged students.

Wearing a beautiful red dress, sleeveless from one side, her blondish long hair flowing as she walked, the Colombian superstar singer delivered an impassioned speech.

Thank you for this honor, Kanny. Thank you for your kind words. This recognition is impossible to receive without sharing it with the incredible team of our Pies Descalzos Foundation and Patricia Sierra, its director, who work tirelessly every day to transform our most vulnerable communities in Colombia. So this is also for you. 

We live in an ambiguous world, surrounded by good music, beauty, TikTok dances, filtered selfies. But there are realities that cannot be filtered or made up. There are places where people who are born poor die poor because they do not have the opportunity to receive a quality education. 

Places where, although it is still hard to believe, people are discriminated against because of their sexual preferences, the color of their skin or their social class. It is an imperfect world, but fortunately it is constantly changing. And that is a truth that cannot be wasted. When my 10-year-old son tells me with sadness that a friend of his would like to change his skin color because he doesn’t feel part of it or that someone else is being pushed aside because of his preferences. That only remains for me as a mother to show him that he doesn’t have to be quiet, that he can raise his hand, that he can use his voice and that he can complain about that and everything else he disagrees with.

That’s the way it is, Milán. And I am relieved to see, I am very, very relieved to see that this youth knows how to do it more and more. In the social networks, you amplify the news that concerns us and bring to light stories that if it were not for them, if it were not for you, these stories would not be known. You question things, you point out injustice, you seek the truth. And today Milán and Sasha are here with me, which is a great joy for me. I want my children to understand that to be an agent of change you don’t have to be a female pop star. 

You don’t have to have a foundation, you don’t have to be a politician or even occupy a place of power, you don’t have to be famous or rich. To be an agent of change you just have to differentiate what is right from what is wrong. You just have to believe that it is possible to change things and not let anyone tell you otherwise.

That is power and you, the youth, have that power. And if you are angry and if you are uncomfortable with exclusion, and if you do not allow yourselves to be anesthetized by the pain of others and if you raise your voice and do not lower your arms, then I can rest assured that my children and that you are and will be the hope of many and are also and will be the true agents of change. Thank you very much.

How Hoobastank & Jonathan Moly Join Forces For Salsa Version of ‘The Reason’ at Premios Juventud

It’s been 20 years since Hoobastank released “The Reason,” and to celebrate the big anniversary, the rock band arrived Thursday (July 20) at Premios Juventud — its first-ever Latin awards show — to perform a new salsa version of the 2003 hit song.

“This song has a very special value, so I did it as a gift for my uncle who’s my manager,” Moly told Billboard at the red carpet. “My uncle told me to send the song to Hoobastank, so I sent it to them via Instagram and told them I’ve been a fan since I was a kid.” According to the Venezuelan salsa artist, talks for the collaboration began in 2020.

“We have people cover the song and tag us all the time, every single day, and I don’t recall getting asked to do something like this,” Hoobastank’s lead guitarist Dan Estrin elaborated, to which lead vocalist Doug Robb noted that Moly’s salsa version “just felt right.”

Hoobastank and Moly later took center stage to perform the track. “Puerto Rico, Hoobastank,” Moly said ecstatically, and the group appeared singing in English. Then, their voices united for an epic bilingual rendition of the rock anthem. Backed by a live salsa band and electric guitar solos, this was perhaps one of the best performances of the night for its originality.

The new version, a subtle fusion of rock and salsa, is part of the Venezuelan artist’s new album Metamorfosis. The original track peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated June 19, 2004).

The set started with the new track, very much inspired by their comeback as a trio. “I’m not scared of a part two, it’s never too late to start again,” Samo and Mario sang passionately. They then transitioned to an anthem, “Mientas,” for which they were joined by the crowd who was eager to sing along with them. They ended with the chorus of another classic, “Todo Cambió.”

The reunion of these voices was a special moment during the awards ceremony. Camila was once a chart-topping trio known for striking pop ballads such as “Mientes” and “Aléjate De Mí.” The trio also won several Latin Grammys and Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Camila became a duo in 2013 after Samo departed to pursue a solo career. As a duo, Domm and Hurtado released the album Elypse in 2014, while Samo debuted as a soloist and put out two albums: Inevitable (2013) and Eterno (2017), as well as the live set Me Quito El Sombrero (2015).

Dominican Legends Bring Energetic Merengue Medley at Premios Juventud 2023

“Vamos a cantar, vamos a bailar/ música latina/ Vamos a cantar, vamos a gozar,” belted out Dominican merengue legend Fernando Villalona on “Música Latina” during his energetic medley set at Premios Juventud 2023. Accompanied by a crew of fellow genre peers, they elevated the energy to inspire plenty of dance action.

Genre pioneer Johnny Ventura sang “Merenguero Hasta la Tambora” to thrilling effects, while Pavel Núñez and La Materialista followed further keeping the vibe lit. Los Ilegales closed the nearly six minute set accompanied by a dancing crew wearing silver outfits that shimmered though.

Pavel Núñez, Fernando Villalona, La Materialista, Jandy Ventura, and Ilegales collectively represent a diverse array of talent and musical styles from the Dominican Republic. Pavel Núñez, with his soulful voice and poetic lyrics, has made a mark in the Latin pop and trova genres, touching hearts with his emotional melodies. 

Fernando Villalona, known as “El Mayimbe,” has been a pillar of Dominican music, captivating audiences for nearly four decades with his powerful vocals and indelible contributions to merengue. 

La Materialista, a prominent figure in the urban and reggaeton scene, stands out with bold and empowering music, infusing dancehall and dembow into her vibrant tracks. 

Jandy Ventura, following in the footsteps of his legendary father, Johnny Ventura, has made his presence known in the bachata genre, delivering heartfelt interpretations of this beloved Dominican style. 

Lastly, Ilegales, with their innovative fusion of merengue, hip-hop, and EDM, have brought a fresh and electrifying energy to the Latin music world, making them stand out in the crowd. Together, these talented artists exemplify the rich musical heritage of the Dominican Republic, captivating audiences both locally and internationally with their unique voices and contributions to various genres.

Premios Juventud celebrates its 20th anniversary from the Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with the theme of “Exprésate a tu Manera” (Express Yourself Authentically).

Co-hosted by Alejandra Espinoza and Angela Aguilar, this year’s PJs debuts 15 new categories that “reflect the latest trends” in Latin music, such as best song for my ex, best urban track and best urban mix, among others.

This year, Shakira and Camila Cabello will receive the special “Agent of Change” award, joining past honorees that include Jesse & Joy, Maluma, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Kany Garcia, Jenni Rivera Foundation, Ricky Martin, Becky G, Pitbull, Juanpa Zurita, and Wisin y Yandel.
