Metro Boomin Recalls Losing 3 Beats He Made for Future During a Power Outage

Metro Boomin stopped by Billboard News during his Billboard cover story shoot to talk about working alongside superstars like Future, 21 Savage and more.

But the hitmaker encountered a slight hiccup when he was cooking up beats for Pluto, presumably for their highly anticipated joint album. “They was beats I was making for the next time I see him, and they was going crazy. Boom, boom, boom. And I just came from Atlanta, and there was a storm. One of my beat machines that I use…. It’s not like a computer, it’s old-school, so it’s plugged up. The power goes out, and you haven’t saved it, that’s it,” he told Billboard‘s Tetris Kelly. “Sometimes, if I’m so far into something and that happens, then I’ll just be like, ‘Alright, I just gotta do something.’ And that usually be a blessing in disguise, I’ve done learned, ’cause the next thing be like, ‘Oh man, I wouldn’t have had this if I hadn’t lose this.’”

Metro (real name Leland Tyler Wayne) tweeted about the situation in late August. “Just made 3 [fire] beats on my MPC 3000 and the power just went off at the crib I didn’t even get to record them in yet,” he wrote. “I’m finna go cry myself to sleep bye y’all.”

On top of his upcoming album with Future, Metro is also working on a joint album with J.I.D (“I’m really excited about that one, he beamed) and is producing A$AP Rocky and The Weeknd‘s next albums.

Sam Asghari Has ‘Already Read’ Britney Spears’ Memoir & Is ‘Excited’ for Its Release: ‘I’m Very Proud of Her’

Sam Asghari has every intention of supporting the release of Britney Spears‘ memoir, The Woman in Me, despite their pending divorce. Speaking with TMZ on Thursday, Asghari stated that he plans to head to a bookstore and pick up a copy once it’s released on Oct. 24.

When asked if he was excited for the release of his ex’s book, he replied, “No, I already read it. I’m very proud of her. She put a lot of work to it, and it was very hard. I’m definitely excited and I’m extremely proud of her. It was a really tough one … I’ll be the first one in line to buy it.”

Asghari’s comments come amid him filing for divorce from the “Stronger” singer in August after six years of dating and less than two years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences for the dissolution of their relationship. Elsewhere in his chat with TMZ, Asghari stated that he is not dating and is focusing on his line of work.

Spears addressed the split in an Aug. 19 Instagram post, in which she danced to Janet Jackson’s 1993 track “If,” stating in the caption of the video that the split came as somewhat of a surprise.

“As everyone knows, Hesam and I are no longer together … 6 years is a long time to be with someone so, I’m a little shocked but … I’m not here to explain why because its honestly nobody’s business !!!” she wrote.

The post continued, “But, I couldn’t take the pain anymore honestly !!! In some sort of telepathic way I have been receiving so many messages that melt my heart from friends and I thank you !!! I’ve been playing it strong for way too long and my Instagram may seem perfect but it’s far from reality and I think we all know that !!! I would love to show my emotions and tears on how I really feel but some reason I’ve always had to hide my weaknesses !!!”

The Woman in Me is slated to arrive on Oct. 24.

On the opening day, CN Bank’s Vice President and Entertainment Team Lead Rodrigo Nieto-Galvis joined Billboard’s Leila Cobo on stage for a panel discussion called “How to Manage Your First Big Paycheck: Step 1, Don’t Buy That Exotic Car.”

The conversation focused on how to manage and structure music revenue over time. Receiving a massive lump sum of cash can be overwhelming, especially without the proper guidance from entertainment finance experts like CN Bank.

Neito-Galvis said, “You have to balance two elements. First, financial psychology and second financial education. Financial psychology can explain why you want to buy that exotic car. Financial education is really understanding that money you could spend on a car, can better help you achieve professional, and life goals over the long term.”

It is important to establish a plan before receiving a lump sum of money. Regardless of how large the number on your first music check is, artists are independent workers and often do not receive a monthly paycheck.

Nieto-Galvis said, “Initially when you start as an artist, money is mainly for survival… When you start getting bigger paychecks, your perception of money changes. You’re now able to acquire assets such as the car you are thinking about, or a house, or jewelry.”

CN Bank has a well established history of helping artists manage their finances and offer their clients a variety of solutions & support. Nieto-Galvis stressed the importance of having a financial team specifically dedicated to music and entertainment.

America is a second home for many artists in the Latin community, so dealing with different financial rules and regulations in multiple countries can be tricky. Traditional banking services can only help artists get to a certain point, but partnering with a financial team that specializes in entertainment will help an artist reach their full potential while simultaneously establishing wealth.

Francia Raisa Teases Selena Gomez Merch Collaboration

Francia Raisa is up to something, and she’s bringing Selena Gomez along for the ride.

The How I Met Your Father actress took to Instagram on Friday (Oct. 13) to tease some “exciting news” coming on Monday (Oct. 16), alongside a series of photos posing alongside the “Single Soon” singer at a bowling alley. The duo are seen rocking t-shirts — also highlighted on the last slide of the post — that read “no beef, just salsa” across the front.

The photo officially squashes rumors of “beef” between the two stars, as fans noticed they drifted apart in the years following Raisa donating her kidney to Gomez six years ago.

Things came to a head last year when Raisa didn’t appear to take too kindly to a comment Gomez made in an interview with Rolling Stone, during which the singer-actress said Taylor Swift was just about her “only friend in the industry.”

“Interesting,” Raisa commented on a post sharing the quote, to which Gomez replied, “Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know.”

However, in August of this year, Gomez seemed to squash feud rumors with Raisa by publicly wishing her happy birthday on Instagram, posting several photos of their friendship through the years.

Electronic Industry Charity Soccer Tournament Copa del Rave Returns to Los Angeles Next Month

The electronic music industry’s premier soccer tournament, Copa del Rave, is returning to Los Angeles on November 2 with teams forged from electronic music artists and industry figures.

Confirmed DJ players include Copa co-founder Ardalan, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs, Xie, Zomboy, Zen Freeman, EDDIE and Borgore, with more to be announced.

The tournament will also feature teams from CREATE Music Group, Capitol Music Group, Downtown Music, INFAMOUS, Red Light Management, Symphonic Distribution, YourArmy/ATC and The Free Agents.

The tournament is once again happening at Evolve L.A., in the city’s Frogtown neighborhood. Games begin at 3p.m. and run until 8p.m. A spectator donation is requested. A donation is also required from each competing team, with the winning team getting to select the charity that will receive the money raised.

The first three installments of Copa del Rave raised more than $40,000 in donations for the LA Mission, which provides support to homeless people in L.A.; MusicCares, a Recording Academy organization that helps people in the music industry going through hard times; and Give a Beat, which uses music to help people impacted by the criminal justice system.

Previous players include Diplo, GG Magree, Wax Motif, Ardalan, TEED, The Chainsmokers and more. Kappa won last year’s tournament, with the previous two editions won by Red Light Management.

“Copa del Rave is back! We might be older and slightly more injury-prone, but the hunger out on the field is still real,” tournament co-founders Alastair Duncan, Jonathan McDonald and Ardalan said in a joint statement. “We’re truly grateful for all the teams and DJs participating, who are willing to get out there and play for a good cause.”

Dylan Scott Earns His Fifth Top 10 on Country Airplay Chart with ‘Can’t Have Mine’

Dylan Scott earns his fifth top 10 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, as “Can’t Have Mine” rises from No. 11 to No. 9 in its 56th week on the ranking (dated Oct. 21). It increased by 8% to 19.8 million audience impressions during the Oct. 6-12 tracking week, according to Luminate.

Scott co-authored the song with Matt Alderman, Josh Melton and Dallas Wilson. It’s from his LP Livin’ My Best Life, which arrived at its No. 12 high on Top Country Albums in August 2022.

For the 32-year-old Scott from Bastrop, La., “Can’t Have Mine” follows “New Truck,” which became his second Country Airplay No. 1 in August 2022, when it led for one week. Before that, “Nobody,” hit No. 2 in June 2021; “Hooked” climbed to No. 2 in September 2018; and “My Girl,” his third of nine entries, led for a frame in July 2017.

Scott is currently on his This Town’s Been Too Good to Us Tour with supporting acts Taylor Holder and Matt Schuster. The next stop is in Atlanta (Oct. 13), followed by Knoxville, Tenn. (Oct. 14).

Third Round of ‘Moonshine’

Lainey Wilson’s “Watermelon Moonshine” dominates Country Airplay for a third week (31 million, up 2%). Her third No. 1 marks her first to rule for three weeks; her rookie entry, “Things a Man Oughta Know,” led for one week in September 2021 and her collaboration with Cole Swindell, “Never Say Never,” stayed at the summit for two frames starting in April 2022.

Meanwhile, “Moonshine” marks the sixth song to dominate Country Airplay for three or more weeks of the 15 titles that have ascended to No. 1 so far in 2023.

Bad Bunny, Offset, Ice Spice x Rema & More: Which Is Your Favorite Music Release of the Week? Vote!

Friday the 13th might be a spooky day for those in the Halloween spirit, but this week’s new music Friday is anything but, thanks to releases from Bad Bunny, Offset and a team up between Ice Spice and Rema.

Bad Bunny officially rolled out his brand new era for Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana (“Nobody Knows What Will Happen Tomorrow”) with a sold out concert at Puerto Rico’s El Choli on Thursday night, with the album arriving on streaming on Friday. The set boasts 80 minutes of material that sees him as locked in as ever, despite creating a clear line between the summer appropriate tracks from his record breaking album, Un Verano Sin Ti. (See our ranking of the tracks on Bad Bunny’s new album here.)

After losing Takeoff, Offset used his memory to push through and release his second solo album, Set It Off. Much like Quavo’s Rocket Power, the 31-year-old reflects on losing his friend and fellow Migos member (“Upside Down”), but enlists a host of guest stars — from Travis Scott, to Don Toliver, to wife Cardi B — to indulge in classic rap braggadocio.

Ice Spice is no stranger to collaboration, teaming up with Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj earlier this year for “Karma” and “Barbie World” respectively — this time, she enlists afrobeats star Rema for latest single “Pretty Girl.” The two work well together on the track’s bouncy beats, with Rema providing the track’s essential hook that’s bound to make its way to social media and beyond.

Troye Sivan and Boygenius also return with new material, but which release is your favorite? Vote in our poll below.
