The clip kicked off with the bubblegum pink-toned cover for her 2010 album, Pink Friday. “This is one of the most important shoots I’ve ever done,” Minaj shared. “What we were going for in this shoot was trying to make me look like a big Barbie doll. Once I saw the photo, I loved it, but I wanted the dress to be more poofy. […] They were like, ‘OK, let’s just draw on the extra lace behind you.’ We did it, and that’s the beauty of some of the best photoshoots, is that you don’t know what the heck you’re going to get and then you leave with something more gorgeous, beautiful and iconic.”

She then went through a number of other beloved looks, including various Fashion Week outfits, Met Gala styles, her Barbie film premiere look and her multiple Vogue covers. She also touched on her upcoming Pink Friday 2 cover. “Well, this made me light up,” she shared, noting that she’s wearing Vetements. “I just loved that it didn’t have to show any skin. I just loved that sometimes women are the most confident when they’re completely covered up.”

Minaj is just a day away from finally unveiling her highly anticipated fifth studio album, Pink Friday 2 on Dec. 8. “If you on my $h!t list, you will never EVER recover. The. Fkng. End,” she wrote to fans about the project last month.

Pink Friday 2 is the follow-up to Minaj’s 2018 album, Queen, which peaked at No. 2 on both the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart upon its release. The upcoming album’s predecessor, 2010’s Pink Friday, topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for six weeks and the Billboard 200 for one week.

What’s Your Favorite Song of 2023? Vote!

The pop world looked different than previous years in 2023, with a mix of genres topping the Billboard Hot 100 throughout the year — from country and pop-rap to K-pop and Latin and beyond.

Billboard‘s staff put together our list of our top songs from throughout the year, with SZA’s “Kill Bill” topping the list. The S.O.S. standout track marked the singer’s first Hot 100 chart topper, and launched a groundbreaking year for SZA. The singer leads the pack of Grammy nominees for the 2024 ceremony with nine nominations — including record and song of the year nods for “Kill Bill” and an album of the year nod for her 10-week Billboard 200 chart-topper SOS. She previously won a Grammy in 2022 when her collaboration with Doja Cat, “Kiss Me More,” took home the award for best pop duo/group performance.

Rounding out the top 10 in Billboard‘s list of top songs of 2023 are Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?,” Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers,” Doja Cat’s “Paint the Town Red,” boygenius’ “Not Strong Enough,” Troye Sivan’s “Rush,” PinkPantheress and Ice Spice’s “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2,” Olivia Rodrigo’s “Get Him Back!” and Rema and Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down.”

On the Success of “Pound Town”:

What started as a freestyle became a breakthrough for Sexxy Red when she released “Pound Town” last January. After receiving numerous cosigns, the song’s explosion put her on the map and became viral gold on TikTok.

“I think it’s because the song is catchy and its real life sh-t. We done all been to pound town before, so I think its just a fun way of talking about it,” she revealed. “I feel like Nicki also matched my energy of what it means to go to pound town on her verse, so it was fire.”

On Working With Nicki Minaj: 

After the scorching success of her viral single “Pound Town,” Red enlisted the rap’s original Barbie, Nicki Minaj for the song’s remix. Minaj had kind words for Sexxy, saying last May on Instagram Live: “This is only the f–king beginning for her. This is what I told her. Yo, people like you. People like what you have to say, they like your sound. So, make sure a whole bunch of people aren’t coming around trying to help you do this and help you do that.”

“It was such a good experience! She’s a sweet person, and you can really tell she’s really serious about her music,” Sexxy said on Threads. “She gave me some of the best advice that I know I’ll always come back to. I really appreciate her for being supportive and kind.”

On Joining Drake & SZA For “Rich Baby Daddy”: 

Courtesy of her sizzling features, Sexxy’s stock skyrocketed and caught Drake’s attention, so much so that the 6 God brought her to open up on the remaining legs of his It’s All a Blur Tour. Following the trek, Sexyy joined Drake and SZA for Drizzy’s For All the Dogs standout, “Rich Baby Daddy.” Sexyy’s titillating hook and fun energy made the song a magnetic bop. 

“Me and Drake already was cool ever since he brought me on his tour,” she said. “We talked about doing songs then he put SZA on it.”

On Releasing Her Hood Hottest Princess Deluxe Project:

Last June, Sexyy released Hood Hottest Princess, which featured her Hot 100 singles “Pound Town 2” and “Skeeyee.” After receiving acclaim for her latest mixtape, Sexyy upped the ante and returned with the project’s deluxe version featuring Summer Walker, Chief Keef, and more.

Tom Nitti Explains Heart-Wrenching Reason He Suddenly Left ‘The Voice’: ‘I Chose My Family’

When Tom Nitti, 31, unexpectedly left The Voice last month during the playoff rounds citing “personal reasons,” the Team Reba country singer didn’t provide a lot of information about why he unexpectedly had to bounce.

But in a new interview with the Utica Observer-Dispatch, Nitti finally opened up about the difficult situation at home that forced him to make the decision. “It’s always been a dream of mine to pursue music full time, but I can’t do that without a cushion,” said Nitti, a New York State trooper and former Airborne Cavalry Scout who suffered a serious brain injury in a mortar attack in Afghanistan that earned him a Purple Heart. “As a dad, I need to make sure my children will be supported,” he said.

Performing in front of thousands of people has “always been my dream” Nitti told the paper. But once he became a dad, his goal adjusted to being known locally and serving his community. “The biggest misconception is when people think I went on the show knowing that I’d leave,” said the father of two young children who lamented leaving his kids when he deployed to Afghanistan for several rotations and during his stints in airborne school and a warrior leader course. “It all happened so quickly and I needed to make a fast decision. I chose my family and I’ll tell you why.”

After turning heads, and chairs, with his covers of Stevie Wonder’s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” in the blind auditions and winning the battle rounds with his Cody Johnson “Til You Can’t” cover — and then getting saved by McEntire in the knockout round thanks to his take on the Temptations’ “(I Know) I’m Losing You” — Nitti became one of Team Reba’s six finalists.

Nitti — who was slated to appear on season 23 of The Voice but said he had to defer a year because he hadn’t given the state police enough of a head’s up — told the paper that even though pursuing music full time was his long-time goal, his priority was making sure his children, Rayleigh and Brently, were well-supported.

Then, five months before season 24 aired, Nitti filed for divorce. After going up against Jacquie Roar during the knockout rounds, Nitti said she asked him what was wrong when he seemed glum despite McEntire saving him from elimination. “I spilled my guts,” he said. “I told her about how I had just received an email from my lawyers urging me to come home because my ex-wife was going after primary custody.”

The “gut-wrenching” moment pushed Nitti to make the difficult choice to leave the show, “not because I missed my kids, but because I couldn’t imagine losing them,” he told the paper. “I am happy with the decision I made, but should it have come to that point? Absolutely not,” he added. Though he left before the shows went live, Nitti said he was not prepared for the reaction to his leave-taking during the pre-taped portion of the season.

“I never believed that things were meant to be until this all happened,” Nitti said. “The most positive thing from my experience on the show was the camaraderie I found among other vocalists.”

Shortly after leaving the show, Nitti acknowledged his split in an lengthy Instagram post, in which he wrote, “As much as it absolutely stings to say, I had to make probably one of the hardest yet easiest decisions ever and ultimately at the end of the day, my kids will always come first and if I had to make the same decision again I’d do it over and over.” He also promised at the time that, “This isn’t the end of me and I’ll do what I do best for everyone to see which is keep my head down and move forward playing music and raising/creating new memories with a family I will continue to grow.”

Earlier this week, Nitti dropped the new original, “One Night Stand,” with fellow contestants Bias and Lennon VanderDoes. “There’s a hole in the wall dive bar/ It’s downtown/ Can’t believe a girl like you would come around/ Strut keeps turning heads/ Gotta get you outta here,” Nitti sings on the country ramble. Bias is still on the show, but VanderDoes was sent packing after the playoff round after Gwen Stefani used a Super Save to bring him back. Nitti told the paper he’s also written a new song about his journey called “Redemption Road.”

“I’m hoping one day my kids will be able to see why I did what I did instead of just thinking that I quit,” he said.

Shane MacGowan’s Undertaker Prepares to Give the Pogues Icon a ‘Good Send-Off’

For years, Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan sketched out his funeral plans to his friend, Philip “Philly” Ryan of Nenagh, County Tipperary, Ireland. “He kept it simple. He wanted it the same as his mother’s,” says Ryan, owner of the 152-year-old family business JJ Ryan Undertaker in Nenagh, where MacGowan’s late mother, Therese, grew up. “A private few prayers and a rosary. A public mass and a private cremation.”

The beloved singer-songwriter, who pioneered a punk approach to Irish music anddied last Thursday at 65, perhaps didn’t anticipate the crowds — Ryan predicts 5,000 to 10,000 mourners for MacGowan’s funeral mass Friday afternoon at St. Mary of the Rosary Church in Nenagh, population 8,000, after a procession with a horse-drawn carriage near MacGowan’s home in the Dublin area. After the mass, a second funeral procession will travel through Nenagh. “The whole town will stop for a few hours while it’s happening,” says Michael O’Connor, the town and county’s director of roads, transportation, active travel, health and safety, adding that Nenagh will add 1,500 local parking spaces for the occasion. “We’ll have his more famous songs played on the public-address system. We’re delighted that he’s coming home.”

“It’s a big effort down here,” Ryan says by phone from Phil Ryan’s Pub, across the street from the undertaker, where he reminisced about his friend’s Nenagh presence and discussed how the town is preparing for the influx of mourners and fans.

What have the logistics been like for the funeral mass?

The local council, the police, they’re all working together on it. It should pack up nicely. We’re going to bring it up to the Barracks Street end of Nenagh, turning up Pearse Street and onto Church Road. It’s kind of the long way around, so less people to line the routes. Nenagh’s a big enough church for a huge crowd. We’re going to put some amplification outside for the overflow so they can all hear the mass. We’re all going to do our best.

What’s the most attendance you’ve had at a funeral in Nenagh?

Funerals down here are big. Two thousand, regularly. Anything of that size, no. It’s massive.

Have you had to hire more employees for the occasion?

Absolutely. We have security, extra staff on the hearse and my funeral home. I don’t foresee any problems, because, whatever we do, we do funerals very well. It’s a great tradition and we want to give him a good send-off.

What was your friendship like with MacGowan?

Shane didn’t have that many friends, but I was lucky enough to be one of his close circle. I own the pub as well. The funeral parlor is across from the pub. That was his favorite pub in the country. He was a shy guy behind it all and he loved to come in and just while the time away with the locals. Some stories and laughing. He’d never get up and sing and take over the place. He would never do that.

When was the last time you saw him?

Two weeks ago tomorrow. He was released from the hospital on a Tuesday. A lot of fanfare to him was going home for Christmas. Myself and Brendan Fitzpatrick, his driver for 20 years, went to see him in his apartment. You know what, we knew he was in big trouble. The poor man. We spent a couple of hours with him and we left. I normally go up to him on a Wednesday — I just was a little busy last Wednesday and didn’t make it up. I probably would have gone up on Thursday, but he died on Thursday.

His behavior at Pogues concerts suggested he was a big, boisterous personality. Was that true in your friendship?

No. No. He was anything but boisterous. That was a persona onstage, with that roar of his. Shane was a very, very quiet and gentle person and very kind. Very conscientious. Look, I suppose we all have our moments when we’re on a bender, but I can tell you he was a gentleman.

Did he discuss what he wanted for his service with you before his passing?

Yeah, he did. Black Sabbath played in Dublin in 2017. That night, we went to a party in Dublin. He was in great form. Same night, he called me and told me what he wanted. We met Nick Cave another night. All night, he was telling Nick, “This is Philly. This is me undertaker!” He was saying, “Shane, I know. You said it already.” It was a running joke.

I imagine the pub will do well this weekend.

Oh, jeez, it’s humming all week. We’re going to convert the lounge into the Shane MacGowan Lounge. We’re going to do something memorable for him.

P!nk Shares Heartbreaking Video for ‘Trustfall’ Deluxe Single ‘All Out of Fight’: Watch

P!nk‘s Trustfall era continues. Following the release of the album’s expanded tour deluxe edition on Dec. 1, the singer released a new music video for the set’s latest single, “All Out of Fight,” on Thursday (Dec. 7).

The video follows a couple that is head over heels in love, traveling across the country and starting their lives together by moving into a home. The pair spends its time searching for sparkling gemstones, even finding a precious rock hidden at the end of the rainbow, but the activities come to a sudden halt when the woman falls ill. Upon realizing that her partner is struggling with her being sick, she takes him to their shared greenhouse, where their gemstones are illuminated.

“I’m all out of fight/ My heart will always know your name/ I’m all out of love/ But look at all the love we made/ I’m all out of life/ Oh, babe, it’s killing me to say/ I’m all out of love, I’m all out of life/ I’m all out of fight,” P!nk sings on the chorus.

P!nk released the original version of Trustfall in March. The set peaked at No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, and spent a total of eight weeks on the tally. Trustfall (Tour Deluxe Edition) also features “Irrelevant” and “Dreaming” with Marshmello and Sting, in addition to live versions of “Cover Me in Sunshine,” “What About Us,” “Just Like Fire” and more.

Ariana Grande Shares Photos From the Studio Teasing Mystery Project

Stay calm, Arianators — but it looks like Ariana Grande might be working on new music.

After putting her singing career on pause for the past couple years to focus on the Wicked live-action films, the 30-year-old vocalist shared a series of photos and muted videos on Instagram of her hard at work in a professional recording studio. In many of them, Grande — who’s known for producing her own vocals — sits at a computer while editing audio files visible on the screen.

The “Thank U, Next” singer didn’t provide a caption for the Thursday (Dec. 7) post, much less any details about what she’s planning. However, her close friend and frequent collaborator Victoria Monet did comment, “She’s HOME!!!????”

Cynthia Erivo, who’s starring as Elphaba opposite Grande’s Glinda in the Wicked movies, also wrote that “no one is ready.” “I’m so freaking proud of you!!” added the singer-actress. “This project is so freaking special!!!”

The Victorious alum hasn’t had a proper release since her 2020 album Positions. She has jumped on tracks such as The Weeknd’s “Die for You” and “Santa, Can You Hear Me” with Kelly Clarkson over the past few years, and she released a 10-year anniversary edition of her debut album Yours Truly in August. But other than that, Grande’s pretty much kept her sights trained on Wicked and her R.E.M. Beauty business.

“[Wicked] is going to have every piece of me, every minute, every ounce of my heart, my time, my soul, my everything that I can give it,” she said in May 2022. “My hands are quite full with a lot of other ‘thrillifying’ work at the moment. I am spending all of my time with Glinda, I just was not ready.”

Fans have grown increasingly impatient for Grande to release a new album, something she’s teased her listeners about a couple times this year. “I know you’re very annoyed with me and my little makeup, but it’s coming,” she joked in a Q&A in August, referencing fans who are vocal about wanting the star to prioritize music over R.E.M. “There’s more, mhmm. Gotcha!”

In October, she shared Instagram pictures of her hanging out with some goats on a farm and teased: “ag7: goat mother.”

Playboi Carti’s “Sky” returns to No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, with Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You” creeping even closer to the top of the list, rising 3-2 on the ranking dated Dec. 9.

The TikTok Billboard Top 50 is a weekly ranking of the most popular songs on TikTok in the United States based on creations, video views and user engagement. The latest chart reflects activity Nov. 27-Dec. 3. Activity on TikTok is not included in Billboard charts except for the TikTok Billboard Top 50.

“Sky,” featured on Playboi Carti’s 2020 album Whole Lotta Red, is a monthly visitor to the top reaches of the TikTok Billboard Top 50 – and on TikTok as a whole prior to the chart’s September 2023 inception – thanks to start-of-the-month trends highlighting the song’s “Wake up/ It’s the first of the month” lyric. In the spirit of the holidays, some of the latest uploads even utilize a Christmas-themed remix of the tune as it vaults to the top.

The Dec. 9 survey is the second time “Sky” has ruled the chart, following the tally dated Oct. 7. It returned at No. 2 on the Nov. 11 list.

“Sky” isn’t the only song whose appearance on the latest TikTok Billboard Top 50 is spurred by first-of-the-month trends, either. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony’s “1st of Tha Month” returns at No. 27, after debuting at No. 22 on the Nov. 11 chart. That’s no accident, of course; the “Wake up/ It’s the first of the month” lyric from “Sky” is itself an interpolation of the chorus of “1st of Tha Month.”

The ascension of “Sky” concludes a three-week run at No. 1 for Mitski’s “My Love Mine All Mine,” which drops to No. 3. It’s also passed by Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which continues its march to the top of the ranking with a new peak of No. 2.

Continuing with the weekly holiday-themed check-in, Carey leads five holiday tunes on the Dec. 9 tally, up from four the previous frame. Brenda Lee’s “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” joins “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in the top 10, leaping 18-9, and Wham!’s “Last Christmas” rises 14-13. The Ronettes’ “Sleigh Ride” jumps 46-30, one spot behind a debut in Michael Buble’s “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” at No. 29.

The week’s top debut on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 belongs to Laurie Anderson’s “O Superman,” which starts at No. 12. Released in 1981, the experimental electronic track has gone viral after a Nov. 22 upload of a user looking at a photo of her great-great-grandmother who had died 100 years before. The trend centers on the lyrics “Well, you don’t know me/ But I know you,” with creators using the song to delve into their own family histories, discuss supernatural happenings and strange coincidences, and more.

Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” also sports a sizable start, appearing on the chart for the first time at No. 14. The song has gone through multiple waves of virality over the years, with the most recent trend highlighting a filter that slowly ages the user all the way to 2073, 50 years in the future.

And though it’s far from a newcomer on the viral TikTok scene, Conan Gray’s “Heather” also debuts, bowing at No. 23. It originally went viral on the platform in 2020, eventually vaulting to a No. 46 peak on the Billboard Hot 100 that September. Why’s it back now? The song’s opening lyrics reference Dec. 3, the closing day of the latest TikTok Billboard Top 50’s tracking week.

50 Cent Pledges to Donate Proceeds From Diddy Documentary to Victims of Sexual Assault

Trigger warning: The following story contains descriptions of sexual abuse and rape. Following a fourth allegation of sexual assault against Bad Boy Records founder Sean “Diddy” Combs, 50 Cent announced in a tweet on Thursday morning (Dec. 7) that proceeds from his upcoming documentary about Combs’ alleged misdeeds will go to victims of sexual violence.

“I can confirm that the untitled Diddy documentary is in development through G-Unit Film and Television with Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson serving as Executive Producer,” a spokesperson for Jackson and G-Unit Film/TV said in a statement to Billboard on Thursday. “Proceeds from this documentary that G-Unit Film & Television receives will go to victims of sexual assault and rape.”

“WTF at some point you gotta just do the right thing,” the rapper also shared in an Instagram post about donating the proceeds.

In 50’s social media posts, the MC shared footage of former Bad Boy artist Mark Curry alleging that Combs spiked bottles of alcohol that would be served only to women at parties the mogul was throwing.

A spokesperson for Combs has not yet returned Billboard‘s request for comment on 50’s post or the documentary project.

50 — well-known for taking fellow rappers to task — announced his documentary within hours of the news that a fourth woman had filed suit against Combs, accusing Diddy of an alleged gang rape that occurred at Diddy’s New York recording studio in 2003 when she was 17. The graphic details of the latest filing against Combs comes just weeks after he settled a lawsuit filed by former girlfriend singer Cassie Ventura, who claimed that she was subjected to years of alleged violent physical abuse and rape, which allegedly included forcing her to “engage in sex acts with male sex workers” while Combs watched and masturbated.

Diddy was later sued by two other women who claimed he sexually abused them. The embattled mogul responded to the allegations on Wednesday (Dec. 6) in a statement posted to Instagram. “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. For the last couple of weeks, I have sat silently and watched people try to assassinate my character, destroy my reputation and my legacy. Sickening allegations have been made against me by individuals looking for a quick payday. Let me be absolutely clear: I did not do any of the awful things being alleged. I will fight for my name, my family and for the truth.”

At press time, no additional information was available on the release date or distribution of the 50 Cent documentary.

Kane Brown’s ‘Heaven’ Earns RIAA Diamond Certification

Several of Kane Brown‘s famous friends helped surprise the singer-songwriter with the news that his 2018 two-week Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hit “Heaven” has been certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). The song is the eighth country single to earn the accolade, with 10 million certified units in the United States.

Brown and the RIAA shared a video on social media Thursday (Dec. 7) showing the moment he received the news via a video featuring his fellow Diamond-selling country artists Luke Combs, Hillary Scott (of Lady A), Tyler Hubbard (formerly with Florida Georgia Line) and Darius Rucker.

“Not many people have done that,” Combs told Brown of reaching the milestone. “I just want to say welcome to the club, man, super cool. Keep killin’ it, man. You’ve always been awesome.”

“That is such a huge achievement. Welcome to the diamond club, it’s something to be really proud of,” added Hubbard.

“Your song ‘Heaven’ has obviously touched so many hearts and so many lives,” Scott said.

“Welcome to the diamond club. Congratulations, brother,” Rucker said.
