Philadelphia Eagles’ ‘A Philly Special Christmas Special’ Charity Album Scores Big on Billboard Charts

The new charity holiday album A Philly Special Christmas Special scores big across Billboard’s charts (dated Dec. 16), as the star-studded set debuts in the top 10 on Top Album Sales, Independent Albums, Top Current Album Sales, Top Holiday Albums and Vinyl Albums.

The 11-track project, led by Philadelphia Eagles players Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata and Lane Johnson, features 10 covers and one new original song. Special guests on the project include Patti LaBelle, Travis Kelce (Jason’s Kansas City Chiefs star brother and Taylor Swift’s boyfriend), Amos Lee, Howie Roseman (Eagles’ executive vice president/general manager) and Waxahatchee. All profits from the album will be donated to Philadelphia-area charities, including Children’s Crisis Treatment Center and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

A Philly Special Christmas Special sold 28,000 copies in the U.S. in the week ending Dec. 7, according to Luminate, and was available as either a digital download album or a $75 red-colored vinyl LP. It launches at No. 3 on Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales and No. 3 on Vinyl Albums (nearly 17,500 sold on vinyl). The set also bows at No. 4 on Independent Albums and No. 8 on Top Holiday Albums, as well as at No. 25 on the Billboard 200

A Philly Special Christmas Special is the sequel to 2022’s seven-track A Philly Special Christmas. A new $125 double-vinyl-only release that combined both albums also makes a notable debut, as A Philly Special Christmas Special (The Deluxe Album 2022 & 2023) sold nearly 20,000 copies and bows at No. 6 on Top Album Sales and Top Current Album Sales, and No. 2 on Vinyl Albums. It also starts at No. 8 on Independent Albums, No. 17 on Top Holiday Albums and No. 55 on the Billboard 200.

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Luminate. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. The new Dec. 16, 2023-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on Dec. 12. Top Current Album Sales and Vinyl Albums ranks the week’s top selling current albums (excluding older titled, referred to as catalog) and vinyl albums, respectively. Independent Albums and Top Holiday Albums rank the week’s most popular independently released albums and holiday albums, respectively, by equivalent album units.

As the Philly Special team debuts at Nos. 3 and 6 on Top Album Sales, ATEEZ notches its second chart-topper as THE WORLD EP.FIN: WILL bows atop the tally. It sold 146,000 copies in the tracking week – the Korean pop ensemble’s biggest sales week. As is typical for major K-pop releases, THE WORLD EP.FIN: WILL was issued in multiple collectible physical configurations, 33 in total. All have the same 12-song tracklist but have alternative packaging and contain different branded paper merchandise (some randomized, including photocards). Of the 33 editions, 26 are CDs and seven are vinyl. Among the variants are retail exclusives sold through the likes of Barnes & Noble, Target and Walmart.

Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) falls to No. 2 on Top Album Sales (54,000; down 38%), while Stray Kids’ ROCK-STAR descends 2-4 (21,000; down 43%) and Swift’s chart-topping Folklore falls 3-5 (21,000; down 41%).

Swift’s former No. 1s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) and Midnights move 5-7 and 4-8, respectively, selling about 19,000 each (down 33% and 39%, respectively). Cher’s Christmas returns to the top 10, bounding 12-9 with 19,000 sold (up 5%), and Dolly Parton’s former leader Rockstar falls 6-10 with 18,000 (down 26%).

In the week ending Dec. 7, there were 2.708 million albums sold in the U.S. (down 9.7% compared to the previous week). Of that sum, physical albums (CDs, vinyl LPs, cassettes, etc.) comprised 2.342 million (down 13%) and digital albums comprised 366,000 (up 18.9%).

There were 1.010 million CD albums sold in the week ending Dec. 7 (up 8.4% week-over-week) and 1.320 million vinyl albums sold (down 24.5%). Year-to-date CD album sales stand at 33.863 million (up 3.2% compared to the same time frame a year ago) and year-to-date vinyl album sales total 44.508 million (up 16.7%).

Overall year-to-date album sales total 96.182 million (up 6.2% compared to the same year-to-date time frame a year ago). Year-to-date physical album sales stand at 78.891 million (up 10.4%) and digital album sales total 17.290 million (down 9.3%).

Keke Palmer Addresses ‘Trauma’ in Her Private Life, Gets Support From SZA, Teyana Taylor & More

Keke Palmer is taking a moment to shed light on her life and prove that “reality TV” isn’t always reality.

Over the weekend, the multi-hyphenate took to Instagram to share a video of her caring for her son, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend Darius Jackson, and included a very telling caption about her current situation.

“When reality tv makes everyone believe all celebrities are just one big marketing strategy and scheme but my life is truly unraveling at the seams and I just wear trauma like a Dolce & Gabbana coat because Sharon didn’t raise no bi—,” reads the text over the video, which is set to Nicki Minaj’s Beam Me Up Scotty cut “Seeing Green.”

The 30-year-old’s video comes amid a series of events involving her ex. The pair split earlier in the year after he made a comment on X about Palmer’s attire while attending Usher’s Las Vegas residency. Last month, she was granted a restraining order against Jackson that alleged physical and emotional abuse during their two-year relationship. She maintains sole custody of their 9-month-old son, Leodis.

Palmer seems to be doing her best to keep a sense of humor about everything. In the caption of the video, she wrote, “Alexa, Play Mary J: MY LIFE,” with a few crying laughing emojis.

The actress’ celebrity friends came out to support her in the comments section, with SZA writing, “Exactly she’s an icon and we praying and riding for you regardless !!” Teyana Taylor even shared a reference to Palmer’s “Keep a Bag” nickname, adding, “MY GURLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL … and add a good good purseeeee to make the garments pop cause you in ya bagggggggggg sis!!!”

The rapper was a vision in red for the performance, as she rocked a sparkling red, bell-bottom jumpsuit paired with a red lip and soft, wavy hair. She performed hits like “She Bad” and “Get Up 10,” as seen in clips posted to social media.

Niall Horan, Anitta and Charlie Puth also headlined TikTok In the Mix, which also featured performances from rising stars Isabel LaRosa, Kaliii, LU KALA and Sam Barber as part of TikTok’s emerging artist program, TikTok Elevate. For those unable to attend the event in person, In the Mix was also streamed globally via TikTok Live.

Cardi’s performance comes just days before the star confirmed her split from husband Offset on Monday (Dec. 11). “I’ve been single for a minute now but I have been afraid to like — not afraid, I just don’t know how to tell the world,” she told fans on Instagram Live. “But I feel like today has been a sign. The last time I got on Live, I kind of wanted to tell you guys, but I didn’t know how to tell you, so I changed my mind. But it has been like this for a minute now. I just took it as a sign.”

“I wanna start 2024, like, fresh, open,” she added. “I don’t know. I’m curious for a new life, for a new beginning. And yeah, I’m excited.”

Nicki Minaj & 50 Cent Connect for the First Time on New Version of ‘Beep Beep’

With her current momentum on 10, Nicki Minaj opted to crank the decibels even more by enlisting 50 Cent on the newest version of her Pink Friday 2 song “Beep, Beep.”

“#QGTM SOUTHSIDE JAMAICA, QUEENS STAND TF UP!!!!!!!!!!!! He walked on this sh–. YIKESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I am so honored to have him stop by #GagCity!!!! #PinkFriday2,” an excited Minaj exclaimed Monday afternoon (Dec. 11) on Instagram. The small sample finds 50 in his element, spewing aggressive bars alongside Minaj’s braggadocious energy. 

The song is available on Minaj’s website for digital purchase and will hit streaming at midnight on Monday night. Minaj and 50 first teased the collaboration — their first ever — on Friday following the release of Pink Friday 2. After wishing his fellow Queens rep a happy birthday on social media, Minaj swiftly requested 50 to “send that verse in sir.” 

Minaj is keeping her promise of delivering new music shortly after the release of her fifth studio album. Last week on social media, she vowed to drop a song every day until this Friday. “Next week #GagCity welcomes a new edition every day beginning Monday or Tuesday,” Minaj tweeted. “Every day until Friday, you’ll get an [additional] song that completes my fave body of work to date. 4 more songs.”

Pink Friday 2 features Drake, Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, J. Cole, Future and more. Minaj praised the latter after notching another fiery collaboration with “Nicki Hendrix” and revealed that the two have another record in the stash.

Country Hitmaker Lee Thomas Miller Signs With SMACKSongs

Lee Thomas Miller, a writer on hit country songs including “In Color” (Jamey Johnson) and “You’re Gonna Miss This,” (Trace Adkins) has signed a publishing deal with SMACKSongs.

Over three decades, Miller has become one of country music’s most prolific songwriters, as well as one of the songwriting industry’s biggest champions. He has earned 13 BMI radio performance awards and earned such Billboard Hot Country Songs hits including “The World,” which was co-written and recorded by Brad Paisley. Miller has also earned three Grammy nominations, as well as four NSAI “Songs I Wish I Had Written” honors. “In Color” was named song of the year by both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association, while “You’re Gonna Miss This” earned song of the year titles at the ASCAP and NSAI Awards and single record of the year at the ACM Awards. Miller has also had songs recorded by Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, Thomas Rhett, Brothers Osborne and more.

Miller was previously signed to a publishing deal with UMPG Nashville.

“One of the first songwriters to welcome me in the publishing business 15 year ago was Lee Thomas Miller,” Lee Krabel, senior vp of publishing at SMACK, said in a statement. “I’m incredibly excited to get the opportunity to work with Lee again at SMACK. Snubs & Surprises in the 2024 Golden Globes Nominations

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour quickly became the top-grossing concert film of all time, so why does its nomination for the Globes’ new cinematic and box-office achievement award come as a surprise? One of their rules seemingly disallowed it – though another rule overrode that first rule. We’ll explain.

The rules state: “a. Documentaries are not eligible for any of the motion picture award categories, including the Best Motion Picture categories, and the acting, directing, screenplay, song, and score categories. b. Productions of stage plays, operas, concerts, and other live events recorded on a theatrical stage or other similar venue (i.e., not adapted for production as a motion picture or television program) are considered documentaries of the play, opera, concert, or other live event and are not eligible.”

So how was it deemed eligible?

A Globes spokesperson correctly notes that “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement is separate from the overall motion picture category guidelines as described in the award rules.”

Those rules further state: “Cinematic and Box Office Achievement contenders can also be considered for Best Motion Picture in their respective categories, i.e., Drama, Comedy or Musical, Animated or Non-English Language, if they meet the eligibility requirements for each of those awards.”

The Globes spokesman acknowledges that Swift’s film does not meet the eligibility requirements for other awards, such as best motion picture – musical or comedy. “Those rules specifically prohibit concert films and documentaries as per rule 3a and 3b, Hence, Taylor Swift’s Eras film does qualify for CBOA [cinematic and box office achievement] under our rules but does not qualify for the other best motion picture categories.

Half of this year’s inaugural nominees for cinematic and box-office achievement are nominated in other categories; half are not. Barbie, Oppenheimer, Spider-Man: Across the Spider Verse 3 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie are. Swift’s film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, John Wick: Chapter 4 and Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Pt. 1 are not.

We now know that that Swift’s film wasn’t eligible in other categories. These other three simply didn’t garner enough voter support.

The Globes have long been in Swift’s corner. She has received three Globe nominations for best original song – for “Safe & Sound” from The Hunger Games, “Beautiful Ghosts” from Cats and “Carolina” from Where the Crawdads Sing. The fact that they nominated a song from Cats, which was a boxoffice flop, shows that Globe voters are long-time Swifties.
