LISA wasn’t finished when she released “Rockstar” in June. On Friday (Aug. 2), the BLACKPINK star proved that she has a lot more in store for her new solo era, teasing an unreleased song by sharing a snippet on social media.
In a video posted to TikTok, a pink-haired LISA — whose face isn’t visible — shows off a star-shaped pendant around her neck. “Bangin’ it, bangin’ it, wanna crack these walls/ Bangin’ it, bangin’ it, wanna echo through the halls,” she sings over a mid-tempo, Y2K-inspired beat. “Pullin’ up, fresh face, brand new día.”

Then on Monday (Aug. 5), her own LLOUD company posted a new teaser on X with the same snippet of music. But this time, the visual — which features an angled silver star against the backdrop of a pink and purple cloudy sky — had the words “coming soon” scrolling across it, a silvery rose rotating, before ending with “LALISA ______.” That blank space had fans speculating that not only would the new track be a collab, but that her potential partner in music may be Rosalía thanks to the image of the rose.

Trending on Billboard

“LISA AND ROSALIA!!!!” one excited fan tweeted, while another added, “JUST ANNOUNCE IT BABE WE KNOW IT’S ROSALÍA 👀👀👀 AND WE READY”

The teasers come a little over a month after the K-pop icon stepped into a new phase of her solo career with “Rockstar,” a flashy ode to self-confidence that she paired with a cyberpunk music video. The song debuted at No. 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 4 on the Billboard Global 200, as well as became LISA’s first-ever No. 1 hit on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S.

LISA first released music independently from BLACKPINK in 2021 with two singles: “Lalisa” and “Money.” She began teasing her new solo chapter in June, when she launched her TikTok account and started posting seconds-long clips of what would later turn out to be “Rockstar”; according to a release from her team, she set a Guinness World Record by gaining a million followers in just two hours and 18 minutes after her first post.

“Rockstar” also marked LISA’s first release since signing with RCA Records to support her solo endeavors, inking a deal in partnership with her own LLOUD company that will allow her to retain ownership of her master recordings. “I’m super excited to be joining the RCA family, and I am confident they are the best team to create a bigger movement in my solo career,” she said in a statement in April. “Looking forward to showing the world everything we have been preparing.”

Taylor Swift is welcoming five new artists to her Eras Tour run: Raye, Suki Waterhouse, Maisie Peters, Holly Humberstone and Sofia Isella, each of whom will open for one of the pop star’s concerts at Wembley Stadium later this month.
Swift personally delivered the news on Instagram Stories Monday (Aug. 5). “Just wanted to tell you about something coming up that I’ve been so excited about: we’re adding 5 incredible artists to our 5 Wembley shows, going on right before @paramore!!” she wrote. “I asked them to play on this tour because I love their music and think they’ll absolutely smash it in Wembley Stadium!! Go check out their music if you haven’t already. Gonna be a fun 5 nights!!!”

Running Aug. 15-17, 19 and 20, the “Karma” singer’s upcoming stint at Wembley will come about two months after she first brought her Eras shows to the massive London venue for three nights in June. Mette, Griff and Benson Boone each opened for one of the performances, while Paramore has been a constant on the 14-time Grammy winner’s European leg.

Waterhouse, who is close friends with Swift and will perform on the 17th, also shared the news on X. “It feels like an honour to simply exist at the same time as @taylorswift, let alone be an opener for her on the biggest and best tour ever 😭😭” she wrote. “A dream come true that I never want to wake up from. Playing at wembley stadium in my hometown!!”

“The hardest secret I’ve ever had to keep,” tweeted Humberstone, who will play on the 16th. “As if I get to support Taylor at The Eras Tour !!!!!! pinch me !!!!! @taylorswift thank you thank you I am eternally grateful what an honour, I have no words & I can’t f–kin wait for the 16th !”

The announcement comes as Swift has just two stops left on her European leg, with three back-to-back shows in Vienna slated for Aug. 8-10 ahead of her Wembley finale. After that, she’ll swing back through the United States and Canada for one last leg before closing out the Eras Tour in December.

“That feels so far away from now, but then again, it feels like we just played our first show on this tour because you have made this so fun for us that we wanted to do 100 shows, 150-something shows that we have on the whole tour,” Swift said on stage during a show in June. “This tour has really become my entire life. It’s taken over everything. I think I once had hobbies, but I don’t know what they were anymore because all I do when I’m not onstage is sit at home and try to think of clever acoustic song mash-ups and think about what you might want to hear. So when I’m not on the stage, I’m dreaming of being back on the stage with you guys.”

After a series of release dates that came and went, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) and Ty Dolla Sign’s Vultures 2 album finally dropped on Saturday. And, like its predecessor, the second volume from the two MCs is getting criticized for allegedly not clearing some samples.

In a tweet from producer/DJ Geoff Barrow, the Portishead member wrote “FFS [for f–ks sake] Not Again [shrug emoji],” along with a screen shot of the Vultures 2 track “Field Trip.” The song seems to very prominently sample the instantly recognizable drum pattern from the 2008 Portishead track “Machine Gun,” though at press time neither Spotify nor Apple Music listed any production or sample credits for the song also featuring Don Toliver, Kodak Black and Playboi Carti and attributed to the rap duo’s joint name, ¥$.

At press time a spokesperson for Barrow confirmed that the tweet was from Barrow, but it was unclear if the musician or the group were planning to take official legal action for the alleged unlicensed sample; legal representatives for Ye and Ty (born Tyrone William Griffin Jr.) had not returned requests for comment.

Trending on Billboard

Back in February, the estate of Donna Summer filed a copyright lawsuit against West in which they accused the rapper/producer of “shamelessly” using Summer’s 1977 hit “I Feel Love” without permission on the Vultures 1 song “Good (Don’t Die).” The estate’s attorneys said at the time that West “shamelessly used instantly recognizable portions” of Summer’s song in his track, despite her estate having already “explicitly denied” him authorization to do so. After the Summer estate’s public statements regarding the song before the filing, “Good (Don’t Die)” was pulled from streaming platforms and appeared to be pulled from digital versions of the album; at press time it was still not available on major streaming platforms.

In addition, after Ozzy Osbourne denied West’s request to sample one of his songs on Vultures 1 — a solo Ozzy version of the Black Sabbath song “War Pigs” recorded at the 1983 US Festival — the metal icon lashed out at Ye in February after the sample turned up during a listening party at Chicago’s United Center for the serially delayed first Vultures album.

“REFUSED PERMISSION BECAUSE HE IS AN ANTISEMITE AND HAS CAUSED UNTOLD HEARTACHE TO MANY,” Osbourne wrote at the time. “HE WENT AHEAD AND USED THE SAMPLE ANYWAY AT HIS ALBUM LISTENING PARTY LAST NIGHT. I WANT NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MAN!” Osbourne’s comment about Ye was a reference to the barrage of antisemitic comments and insults from Ye in late 2022 that caused the downfall of his once billion-dollar music and fashion empire and led to pariah status in the music and business world.

This is not the first time that West has been sued for illegally sampling or interpolating other artist’s songs into his tracks. In 2022 he was served with a lawsuit claiming his song “Life of the Party” illegally sampled rap group Boogie Down Productions. In another case he was tagged for using an uncleared snippet of Marshall Jefferson’s 1986 house track “Move Your Body” in the song “Flowers” and another case claimed he allegedly sampled a sermon by a Texas pastor on “Come to Life.”

This also isn’t the first time Barrow has called an artist out for allegedly sampling his band’s song “Machine Gun” without permission. In 2013, he accused The Weeknd of sampling the track from Portishead’s Third album on “Belong to the World” without asking first. “When someone asks to sample you and you refuse they should have the respect as a fellow artist to not use it,” Barrow tweeted at Abel Tesfaye at the time.

Benj Pasek and Justin Paul are nominated for a Primetime Emmy for outstanding music and lyrics for a song they co-wrote for Only Murders in the Building. If they win on Sept. 8, the second night of the Creative Arts Emmys, they will become the 20th and 21st individuals to EGOT – to win at least one Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competition.
Moreover, Pasek and Paul would be the second pair to achieve the EGOT as a team. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice won each of the four awards as a team – a Tony for best original score for Evita, a Grammy for best cast show album for Evita, an Oscar for best original song for “You Must Love Me” from Evita and an Emmy for outstanding variety special (live) for Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Trending on Billboard

In addition, Pasek, who will be 39 years and three months old on Emmy night, would become the second-youngest EGOT winner ever, trailing only Robert Lopez, who 39 and one week old when he achieved the feat in March 2014. Paul, who will be 39 years, eight months and five days old that night, would become the third-youngest EGOT ever. John Legend, who was 39 years, eight months and 12 days old when he achieved the feat in September 2018, would fall from his current runner-up status to fourth place.

Pasek would be the fourth individual who is publicly LGBTQ to achieve the EGOT, following actor Sir John Gielgud (1991), producer Scott Rudin (2012) and Sir Elton John (2024).

Pasek and Paul won their first EGOT-qualifying award, an Oscar for best original song, in February 2017 for co-writing “City of Stars” from La La Land with composer Justin Hurwitz. They won a Tony for best original score that June for Dear Evan Hansen and won a second Tony in June 2022 for being among the platoon of producers of A Strange Loop, which was voted best musical. They won their first Grammy, best musical theater album, in January 2018 for Dear Evan Hansen and their second, best compilation soundtrack for visual media, in February 2019 for The Greatest Showman.

They are nominated for a Primetime Emmy for co-writing the song “Which of the Pickwick Triplets Did It?” for Only Murders in the Building with another songwriting team, Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Series star Steve Martin, who is nominated for a Primetime Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, performed the tongue-twisting song.

But Pasek and Paul haven’t won the award yet. The competition is strong. Eli Brueggemann, who won in this category six years ago for co-writing “Come Back Barack” for Saturday Night Live, is nominated again this year for another SNL song, “Maya Rudolph Mother’s Day Monologue,” which he co-wrote with Rudolph, Mike DiCenzo, Jake Nordwind and Auguste White.

Other nominees in the category are Sara Bareilles for writing “The Medium Time” from Girls5eva; John Hawkes, for writing “No Use” from True Detective: Night Country; and Walter Afanasieff, Kara Talve, Hans Zimmer and Charlie Midnight for cowriting “Love Will Survive” from The Tattooist of Auschwitz. Barbra Streisand recorded the latter song. She also recorded “Ordinary Miracles” from Barbra Streisand: The Concert, a Marvin Hamlisch/Alan & Marilyn Bergman song which won in the category 29 years ago.

This is the second Primetime Emmy nod for Pasek and Paul. They were nominated in the same category six years ago for writing a song from A Christmas Story Live!

Sir Elton John was the most recent person to complete the EGOT. He did so when he won a Primetime Emmy for Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium at the ceremony in January (which was delayed for four months by union strikes).

If Pasek and Paul achieve the feat, this would be the fourth time that two or more people became EGOTs in the same calendar year. Helen Hayes and Rita Moreno both became EGOTs in 1977. Mel Brooks and Mike Nichols both scored in 2001. Webber, Rice and Legend all completed their EGOT journeys in 2018.

Here’s a look at this year’s Primetime Emmy nominations in all seven music categories.

This week’s batch of new songs features a double-shot of hitmakers with Lainey Wilson teaming with Miranda Lambert for a new collaboration. Elsewhere, Orville Peck joins forces with Allison Russell on a song from Peck’s new album, while Alex Lambert and Gavin Adcock also offer new tunes.

Lainey Wilson feat. Miranda Lambert, “Good Horses”

[embedded content]

Two of country music’s most illustrious women artists team up for a double-shot of star power, as Wilson’s Louisiana drawl blends wondrously with Lambert’s Texas twang. On this laid-back song, they use the metaphor of a wild horse to acknowledge the wanderlust and draw of freedom and adventure amidst the need for the comforts of home, while offering a tender reminder to those they leave behind that “good horses always come home.” Sonically, this honeyed, hazy song lilts along with the grace, highlighting that not every star-powered song needs a high-voltage vocal performance — sometimes the gentle arc of direct, heartfelt words are made all the stronger for the gentleness.

Orville Peck & Allison Russell, “Chemical Sunset”

[embedded content]

On Orville Peck’s new album Stampede, he teams with Americana music luminary Allison Russell on this stomping, theatrical pairing. Their voices are tremendous, with Russell’s voice sultry and fluttering, and delicately cracking in just the right places with Peck’s vocal rendering a cavernous, steady foil, fusing to convey song’s brooding message of living life with desire and abandon, even as the world burns around them. “Chemical Sunset” marks an illustrious standout on this project.

Alex Lambert, “She Ain’t Texas”

[embedded content]

Texan Lambert issues a bluesy country ballad that evokes trading the draw of home in the pursuit of ambition — in his case, leaving his home in Fort Worth, Texas to move to Nashville. His voice is at once rugged, wistful, soulful, and instantly commanding. Lambert wrote “She Ain’t Texas” with Jordan Lawhead, with production from Drew Allsbrook, Stefan Lit and Dylan Chambers. Lambert may be forlorn over the Lone Star State, but this track makes his Tennessee prospects favorable.

Kameron Marlowe & Marcus King, “High Hopes”

[embedded content]

This song from Marlowe’s 2024 album Keepin’ the Lights On gets a bluesy reimagining, thanks to singer-songwriter-guitarist King. The song is a tightrope of mourning and longing as he moves through disappointment to the first glimmers of hope. On its surface, it’s a curious pairing between the mainstream country singer Marlowe and Americana stalwart King, but their voices blend mightily, while King’s guitar prowess gives the song a darker, moodier patina.

Chase Matthew with Fernando & Sorocaba, “Cold Blooded”

[embedded content]

“Casa Branca” hitmakers Fernando & Sorocaba team with country hitmaker Chase Matthew on their latest outing. Brazilian, EDM rhythms and country constructions weave together, turning heartache into a technicolor dancefloor anthem in this tale of a guy whose trying to earn the affections of someone whose “love is on lockdown,” as he toggles between hope and the knowledge that he’ll never break through her icy heart. Fernando & Sorocaba are set to release the upcoming project NASH, featuring more collabs with country artists including Dustin Lynch, LOCASH and more.

Gavin Adcock, “Run Your Mouth”

[embedded content]

Georgia native and high school sports star-turned-singer Adcock broke through with the angsty ballad “A Cigarette,” but his new song conveys the embedded musical influence of Southern rock, as he growls and seethes his way through this moody, musical warning shot to someone who. “If you live like this, make sure that you don’t miss/ Your opportunity when you gotta go.” Adcock just released his album Actin’ Up Again, via Thrivin Here Records under exclusive license to Warner Music Nashville.

In the eyes of Swifties, nothing is ever an accident. That’s why some fans are convinced that Taylor Swift subtly shaded Ye — formerly known as Kanye West — at her latest Eras Tour show following the rapper’s reference to her on his new album with Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures 2, which dropped hours before her performance in Warsaw Saturday (Aug. 3).
On the track “Lifestyle (Demo),” Lil Wayne name-checks the 14-time Grammy winner and her boyfriend — Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce — on his guest verse. “I twist my Taylor spliffs tight at the end like Travis Kelce,” he quips.

Though Ye himself doesn’t mention Swift, his choice to include a nod to her on his second joint LP with Ty Dolla $ign is noteworthy considering the “Donda” artist’s past feud with the pop star. That’s why the “Anti-Hero” musician’s wardrobe choice on her first Eras show after the track’s release turned some heads, with Swift sporting a T-shirt during the Red set reading, “I Bet You Think About Me.”

Trending on Billboard

“She’s so funny for wearing the I bet you think about me shirt after Ka*ye name dropped her and Travis in his song an actual comedian,” one person tweeted.

Though Swift has worn the shirt at past shows, a few fans think her choice to sport it at this particular performance at the PGE Narodowy was intentional. “saw the k*nye thing a little bit ago and I knew she was gonna wear it lmao,” the same Swiftie tweeted, to which another fan replied, “it makes so much sense now.”

Swift’s tumultuous relationship with Ye is one of the most storied music industry feuds of the past decade-plus. It all started when he interrupted her acceptance speech at the 2009 VMAs to declare that Beyoncé deserved the best female video honors more, after which they eventually patched things over — that is, until he bragged that the incident launched Swift’s career on his 2016 track “Famous.”

When Swift slammed Ye for the song, he claimed that he got the “Karma” singer’s blessing on a phone call before its release, which she denied. After that, his then-wife Kim Kardashian posted an edited recording of their conversation to portray Swift as a liar, something the latter spoke about as recently as last year.

“You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar,” she told TIME in her Person of the Year cover story in December. “That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”

Carly Pearce is headed out on a tour that will see the country star on her largest international outing yet.
Pearce, who is booked by CAA, will start in Windsor, Ontario, on Oct. 3 and wind through North America, Europe and the U.K. before returning to the U.S. to end the tour in Nashville on May 16 more than 40 dates later. Openers on the Conundrum Wines-sponsored tour will be Karley Scott Collins, Matt Lange, Wade Bowen and Carter Faith on selected dates.

Pearce will hit a number of markets in Europe that she has never played before, including Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Munich and the U.K.’s Bristol and Birmingham. Additionally, a number of dates that have already gone on sale are upgrading because of ticket demand. Pearce has added a second night at London’s O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire after the first night sold out, while her shows in  both Glasgow and Belfast have been moved to bigger venues to accommodate demand.

“Fans in the U.K. and Europe have always been such big supporters of artists, not just the songs on the radio,” Pearce tells Billboard. “They have a deep appreciation for songwriting and the true special moments that make me ‘me.’ I’m excited to see my fan growth and can’t wait to have what I know will be an unforgettable tour.”

Pearce will be playing all her hits, as well as dipping into her fourth full-length album, hummingbird, which came out earlier this summer. “I’m just so excited to bring this album to life,” she says. “These songs have been such a big part of my healing process and they deserve to be celebrated.”

The album’s latest single, “Truck on Fire,” debuted at No. 55 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart dated Aug. 10. The album’s first single, the moving ballad “We Don’t Fight Anymore,” featuring Chris Stapleton, reached No. 9 on Country Airplay, making it her fifth top 10 hit, including her three No. 1s: “Every Little Thing,” “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” featuring Lee Brice, and “Never Wanted to Be That Girl,” featuring Ashley McBryde.

Tickets for the  North American dates go on sale Aug. 6 through the Official Carly Pearce Fan Club presale, with general tickets available starting Aug. 9.

“Rock Fantasy Camp for women is a meaningful gathering of women together. As a military brat I never felt constrained by my gender,” Wilson tells Billboard. “Encouraging women to wield their power outside confining gender expectations is always a happy task for me.”

The capacity for the camp is around 80 campers divided into up to 14 bands. Each band is assigned a counselor who mentors them throughout the four days and helps prepare the musicians for the closing concert where they play with the rock headliners at the Viper Room on the Sunset Strip. The counselors themselves are a constellation of heavy hitters, including Roxy Petrucci (Vixen), Eva Gardner (P!nk), Jennie Vee (Eagles of Death Metal), Julia Lage (Vixen), Jennifer Oberle (Sarah McLachlan) and Britt Lightning (Vixen), who also serves as the event’s musical director.

The camp is open to musicians of all levels, who are evaluated beforehand to make sure they are placed in the appropriate band and each participant is sent a song list to start rehearsing. The four days are filled with rehearsals, masterclasses, Q&As and jam sessions.

This year’s event will also include a panel of top women music executives, presented by Billboard, which serves as the Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp’s media sponsor.

“The Women’s Rock Camps have been some of the most supportive and uplifting camps I have seen in my 28 years of producing the Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp,” says producer David Fishof. “The way these women are able to bond and be completely open about topics without judgment allows everyone to leave with so much joy and increased confidence. After observing it, I realized it would be a disservice to not continue producing annual Women’s Rock Camps.”

Lightning adds, “The campers gain friends for life and more importantly establish a network of females that share the same passion from all over the world. The sense of community is overwhelming and inspires not only the campers but the talent as well and allows dreams to be realized in music and beyond.”

Fishof has run the Rock ‘N’ Roll Fantasy Camp for more than 25 years, and participating rock stars have included Roger Daltrey, Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Joe Tyler, Slash, Paul Stanley and Sammy Hagar.
