Ye and Ty Dolla $ign’s Vultures 2 storms in at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (dated Aug. 17). The set, which was first expected for release on March 8, arrived on Aug. 3 and earned 107,000 equivalent album units in the tracking week of Aug. 2 – 8, according to Luminate.

Of the album’s first-week total, 60,500 units came through traditional album sales. The figure was helped by multiple versions in the marketplace: a widely available standard explicit edition, a late-in-the-week-released clean edition and five additional explicit variants released on Ye’s official webstore – each containing the standard album and one exclusive studio bonus track per album. The webstore editions each sold for $5, while the widely available offerings were discounted to $4.99 in Apple’s iTunes Store. Thanks to the robust sales, Vultures 2 debuts at No. 2 on the Top Album Sales chart.

Streaming activity contributes 46,000 units, equaling 59.4 million official on-demand streams of the standard album’s songs), and prompting a No. 6 start on the Top Streaming Albums chart. Track-equivalent album activity comprises the remaining 500 units. (One unit equals the following levels of consumption: one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams for a song on the album.)
With Vultures 2, Ye earns his 12th No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and ties R. Kelly for the fifth-most champs among all artists since the chart began in 1965. The Temptations lead the count, with 19, followed by Drake and Future (15 each) and Jay-Z (14). Since Ye debuted with The College Dropout in 2004, he has only missed the top spot once – 2016’s The Life of Pablo peaked at No. 2.
Ty Dolla $ign picks up his second No. 1 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums with Vultures 2, following the project’s previous installment. Vultures 1 reigned for five consecutive weeks in February – March.
Elsewhere, Vultures 2 opens at No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums chart and at No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200. On the latter list, the entrance notably ends a streak of 11 consecutive No. 1 starts for Ye’s discography.
Nine tracks from Vultures 2 jump onto the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, led by “Field Trip” at No. 10. The track, which features verses from Playboi Carti, Kodak Black and Don Toliver, was the album’s most-streamed song of the week with 9.5 million official U.S. streams.

Jack White never does things the typical way. Take, for instance, the idiosyncratic roll-out of his latest solo album, No Name, which initially was secretly released on July 19 as a free, unlabeled vinyl to unsuspecting customers at his Third Man Records stores in Detroit, Nashville and London. Though he did release it commercially on August 1 as a blue-colored vinyl LP exclusively to independent record stores, and then as a digital download on August 2, his plan to promote the sneak-attack album is just as unconventional.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday (August 13), White explained his plan for an equally sneaky tour in support of the LP, which will take him to small clubs, back yard BBQs and a few festivals to pay the bills. In another surprise, the tour has already begun, but you won’t know if he’s coming to your town because shows will be announced with little advance notice.

“Hello, and love to all the peoples of the world out there. Lotta folk asking about when we are going to announce ‘tour dates,’ well, we don’t know what to tell you but the tour already started at the Legion a couple of weeks ago,” White wrote of a gig he played at the cozy American Legion Post 82 in Nashville to raise money for a new sound system for the venue. “People keep saying that these are ‘Pop up shows’ we’ve been playing, well, you can call them whatever you want, but we are on tour right now. These are the ‘shows.’”
White and his current band also played a 1,000-capacity show at Detroit’s Saint Andrew’s Hall in his native town on August 5 that served as a kind of album release show for No Name.
The proof is in the pudding, including another pop-up in Nashville on Tuesday night at the 575-capacity The Basement East club, where he tore it up, eliciting urgent questions from fans such as, “Can you perform in my basement, the sound will be absolutely s–tty [fire emoji].” The unorthodox outing is in keeping with White’s longtime allergy to following the rules, from the strict red, white and black color scheme for his previous band, the White Stripes, to the shortest concert ever — a single note — by the Stripes in Newfoundland, Canada in 2007 that consisted of a single note and a cymbal crash.
White continued, “We won’t really be announcing dates in advance so much, we will mostly be playing at small clubs, back yard fetes, and a few festivals here and there to help pay for expenses. Shows will be announced as close to the show date as possible, some shows we won’t even decide to do until that morning. I also want to walk through orchard fields and grab apples off of trees at will and fill my belly full of that fruit if the desire strikes me. I’m looking for that cool breeze you know? Lots of love and rock and roll to you all and you are blessed for giving that love to others, we hope that we see you out on the road soon, if not let’s get coffee and a slice of pie sometime? Music is sacred.”
At press time the only official date on White’s tour itinerary is an appearance at the Desert Daze festival in Rancho Las Perris, CA in October.

Cave’s new album, Wild God, set for release on Aug. 30, marks a shift in his musical journey.
“It’s essentially a joyful, uplifting kind of record,” the Australian singer explained, adding, “This record is some years on from events that happened in my life that sort of required my music to be different in a way.” Cave was referring to the devastating losses he has endured – the death of his son Arthur in 2015, followed by the passing of his son Jethro in 2022.

Reflecting on the power of music, the acclaimed songwriter described it as “one of the last legitimate opportunities we have for a transcendent experience.”
However, the music legend shared deep concerns about the impact of AI on creativity: “I think there’s forces out there that that are expressly designed to take the creative act away from us, especially with AI as it’s coming out at the moment, to purely industrialize it, to create music as simply a product and to take away the actual creative experience.” The frontman of The Bad Seeds emphasized, “That worries me a lot.”
The multi-award-winning artist revealed a profound experience of recording with Johnny Cash, his musical hero.
“When I got there quite early at the studio and when he arrived, he was not well at all,” Cave recalled. “He was a sort of terrifying apparition of a man.”
The influential musician vividly described the moment: “He sat down with me and he said, ‘Look, you know, I’ve had the flu, I’ve had laryngitis, I have no voice. I’ve never asked Jesus for anything, but I had to perform with you today. Last night I dropped down on my knees and I said, ‘Jesus, I got to sing with Nick. Give me back my voice.’”
Despite Cash’s frail health, Cave witnessed an extraordinary transformation: “He transformed from this sort of suffering individual into something really extraordinary, literally before my eyes.”
On grief and healing, the he reflected, “We must be able to turn ourselves the other way and look at the world and understand that we are part of the world.”
Cave added, “I saw the world not as a cruel place but as an extraordinarily systemically beautiful place to live in.” The Australian music legend offered a perspective on finding joy after profound loss: “There is joy and happiness in a way you never believed possible on the other side of grief. It’s a difficult, it’s a terrible truth about grief that ultimately you feel you can feel joy in a way that you never thought you could.”
The conversation also touched on the importance of small acts of kindness. The influential musician recounted a memorable interaction: “I went into a vegetarian takeaway restaurant… I gave her the money and she handed me back the change and just squeezed my hand as she gave me back the money. This I’ll never forget because it was so beautifully, quietly articulate.”
As for Wild God, the multi-award-winning artist described it as “a warm embrace,” suggesting that fans can expect a more uplifting experience when the album drops on Aug. 30.

After a two-week break for the Paris Summer Olympics, America’s Got Talent returned on Aug. 13 with the first of four live quarterfinal rounds.
Eleven acts took the stage, but it was Peoria, IL, native Liv Warfield who stole the show with her powerful rendition of “The Unexpected,” a song written for her by Prince.
Warfield, who had already made waves with her Golden Buzzer-winning audition, brought an emotional intensity to the Pasadena Civic Auditorium that left the judges in awe.

Backed by her horn-laden band, she delivered a performance that Simon Cowell described as “unbelievable.” “If this was the Olympics for singing, you would have won the gold medal,” Cowell said. “It felt to me like all those years you’ve been climbing the ladder to where you want to be, it all came out in those three minutes.”

Sofia Vergara was equally impressed, calling Warfield’s performance “Perfection,” and adding, “Your outfit, your voice, the song—it’s amazing to have an artist like you here with us.”
Howie Mandel, a self-proclaimed Prince fan, offered his own high praise. “I’m a huge Prince fan, and he knew what he was doing when he gave you this gem. That was a million-dollar performance. America is crazy if they don’t vote for you, that’s your drop-the-mic moment.”
Warfield’s connection to Prince is both deep and personal. As a former member of his New Power Generation, she was mentored by the legendary artist, who not only shaped her career but also wrote “The Unexpected” specifically for her.
In a heartfelt pre-performance interview, Warfield reflected on her journey: “I’ve been grinding for a long time. Backing up Prince was a dream. But I still haven’t reached the heights I know I can reach. The golden buzzer … when I got home I cried in the car … I cried hard. I didn’t think this would be happening. I’m just everyday people.”
The audience’s response was immediate, with fans taking to social media to voice their support. One commenter noted, “Liv is one of the most talented people that AGT introduced to me,” while another added, “The fact she shared a stage with Prince and sang a song he wrote for her—that alone is amazing. You got my vote.”
As the live rounds continue, Warfield stands out as a top contender, with many eagerly awaiting her next performance.
In addition to her success on AGT, Warfield has made notable achievements on the Billboard charts. Her album The Unexpected reached No. 3 on the Top R&B Albums chart in 2014, and her single “Stay – ‘Soul Lifted’” made an impact on Adult R&B Airplay.

Naming their son was not an easy feat for Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott.
The makeup mogul sat down with British Vogue recently, where she revealed that she and Travis Scott’s two-year-old son, Aire, originally had a series of different names. “It hit me differently both times,” she said of the postpartum hormonal changes she experienced with her two children. “Probably with my son it was major baby blues, so I was just so emotional over things that I probably wouldn’t be that emotional about [typically]. On the phone with my mom all day hysterically crying, saying, ‘I can’t figure out his name.’ Now my advice to all my friends having children is pick the name before, because when the hormones hit you can’t make decisions. You can’t,” she cries. “When I met him, he was just the most beautiful thing to me and I couldn’t believe just how perfect he was. I felt like such a failure that I couldn’t name him. He deserved so much more than that. It just really triggered me.”
She continued, “My son’s name was actually Knight for a long time and my daughter, still to this day, is like, ‘Do you remember when Aire’s name was Knight?’ And I’m like, ‘No.’ And she’s like, ‘That was so funny, Mom. I like Knight better.’ And I’m like: ‘You know what, we are not doing this again.’”

The former couple had first said Aire’s name was Wolf after Jenner gave birth in February 2022. But by March, Jenner clarified that her son’s name changed after realizing it didn’t fit his personality.
Jenner also opened up about co-parenting with the rapper. “If I’m away, for example, if I’m here, they’re with their father,” she said of the two children, who split their time between California and their father’s place in Texas.

“As always, we want to give sincere thanks to our fans, as well as supporters at radio and media,” Jorge Hernández, frontman for Los Tigres del Norte, tells Billboard. “We feel blessed and proud for the opportunity to be a voice for our community through such a long career and that our music is still so strongly embraced to reach the top of the charts. It drives us to keep creating and playing live.”

“Aquí Mando Yo” was released May 31 as the title track of the five-song EP on RMS/Fonovisa/UMLE. The song, inspired by the Mexican American former professional wrestler Héctor Guerrero, and which translates to “I’m in command here,” takes the lead on Regional Mexican Airplay with a 23% increase in audience impressions, to 7.8 million, logged during the Aug.2-8 tracking week, according to Luminate.
That move makes Los Tigres del Norte the newest member of an elite club, among the five groups with at least 17 champs or more since Regional Mexican Airplay began in 1994. Plus, Los Tigres del Norte now tie with La Arrolladora Banda El Limón de René Camacho for the fifth-most, both acts with 17 rulers. Here are those winning members and their No. 1s:

Prior to “Aquí Mando Yo,” the norteño group led the ranking through “En Dónde Estabas” for two weeks in March 2022. Its first No. 1, however, dates back almost three decades, the eight-week champ “Golpes En El Corazón” in 1995.
Diving further into the radio ranks, “Aquí Mando Yo” also moves to No. 2 on the overall Latin Airplay chart for Los Tigres Del Norte’s highest ranking since 1997, when “El Mojado Acaudalado” ruled for two weeks in July 1997.
The latest chart feats for Los Tigres del Norte follow their recent resumed tour Aquí Mando Yo, which began August 3rd in El Paso, Texas, and will take the corridos group across over 50 performances throughout the U.S., Mexico, Latin America and Spain, in addition to their first show at Madison Square Garden set for May 2025.
