Jennifer Coolidge Gushes Over Ariana Grande: ‘I Have Never Met Anyone Like Her in My Life’

Everybody knows that Ariana Grande is a force of nature when it comes to belting out pop hits, but according to Jennifer Coolidge, the 29-year-old vocalist is also an enigma outside of the studio, too. Gushing to ET Canada, the White Lotus star opened up Monday (Jan. 16) about the pair’s fateful friendship and the mystical qualities of Grande’s “rare” personality.

“I love that girl,” she told the publication. “She has so much cool. I mean, she’s at the beginning of her life and it’s like I… she is someone that is such an unusual story because she’s this very, very old person in a very young body.”

The 61-year-old actress and Grande have been friends since the “Positions” musician did a viral impression of Coolidge on The Tonight Show for Jimmy Fallon. In a full circle moment about four years later, the Legally Blonde star herself would appear on Fallon and say that Grande’s imitation brought her career out of a “dead zone” and got the “ball rolling” for projects like White Lotus, for which she recently won a Golden Globe.

“It’s really rare,” Coolidge continued. “I sometimes feel like I’m talking to someone ancient. Her take on things [and everything] is so advanced. I don’t really know how to explain her. I have never met anyone like her in my life.”

Shortly after Grande’s Tonight Show tribute to the actress, Coolidge made a hilarious cameo in the two-time Grammy winner’s 2018 “Thank U, Next” music video, which was partly inspired by Legally Blonde. For Halloween in 2022, Ariana dressed up as Coolidge and recreated scenes from Best in Show with her Victorious costar Liz Gillies.

In December, Coolidge thanked Grande personally for being “the instigator” of her recent career successes in the actress’ Entertainer of the Year cover story in Entertainment Weekly, for which the R.E.M. Beauty founder served as guest interviewer.

“I was kind of flatlining, and you got things going for me,” she told Grande, who insisted she had nothing to do with Coolidge’s resurgence. “I just want to thank you. I know you’re a very humble person, you wouldn’t admit to it, but I’m just going to thank you.”

Located in Greenpoint overlooking the East River, the indoor-outdoor space (which was formerly the House of Vans skatepark) offers skyline views of Manhattan. This creative canvas will feature some of the key names in underground dance music for the series, which will extend through 2023.

The shows launch with a double-header this weekend with a Jan. 20 performance by Nina Kraviz and Magdalena, and a Jan. 21 show from French duo KAS:ST and German producer Kevin de Vries. Didn’t see your city in TXT’s tour announcement? Future dates may be on the horizon, as the official tour poster tells fans there’s “more to come.”

TXT’s Act: Sweet Mirage world tour will support the group’s forthcoming album, The Name Chapter: Temptation, which is set for a Jan. 27 release date. The mini album’s tracklist and official poster are set to drop on Jan. 19, while the album preview will arrive on Jan. 22. It spent a total of 14 weeks on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart, where it peaked at No. 4. Thursday’s Child achieved even more success on the Top Current Album Sales chart, where it spent 20 weeks on the tally and hit No. 1.

Taylor Swift Celebrates ‘Anti-Hero’s Hot 100 Success & Praises SZA

Taylor Swift is no anti-hero when it comes to lifting up other female artists during her own career wins. On Tuesday (Jan. 17), the 33-year-old pop star celebrated her newest accolade — “Anti-Hero” becoming her longest-leading Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 — and took a moment to gush over SZA, whose album SOS has been a fierce competitor with Swift’s Midnights on the charts.

“What on Earth,” Swift wrote on Instagram Stories, sharing a post from Billboard‘s official account about “Anti-Hero”‘s eight weeks at No. 1. “I love you guys.”

With its eighth non-consecutive week in the Hot 100 top spot, the Midnights lead single has now officially surpassed the seven-week reign of Swift’s 2014 smash “Blank Space,” previously her longest-running No. 1. At No. 2 this week is SZA’s “Kill Bill,” a new career-high ranking for the R&B star.

Swift made a point of shouting out SZA’s impressive runner-up spot in her post, writing, “PS – Been listening to @SZA’s album nonstop.”

“Absolutely adore her music,” the “All Too Well” singer added. “So much love and respect for her!!”

Though Swift stands at No. 1 and SZA at No. 2 on this week’s Hot 100, the two musicians’ positions on the Billboard 200 are actually flip-flopped. SZA’s SOS just logged a fifth consecutive week at No. 1, while Swift’s Midnights, which itself debuted in the top spot, is currently in the runner-up position.

Swift’s recent praise follows not long after SZA showed some love to Midnights on Twitter, putting to rest a rumor started by warring fans that the two artists were locked in a contentious rivalry for No. 1. “Uhh I feel silly that I even have to say this but i see supporters arguing and I hate that,” SZA tweeted earlier this month. “I don’t have beef w ANYONE especially not Taylor lmao I genuinely loved her album and the writing!”

“Everyone’s jus tryna do their BEST as we all should,” she’d added at the time. “LOVE TO EVERYONE.”

9 Biggest Revelations From ‘The Price of Glee’

To love Glee is to know that the hit Fox TV series is haunted by several startling tragedies. Most notably, the high-profile deaths of stars Cory Monteith, who passed away from an accidental drug overdose in 2013, Mark Salling, who died by suicide in 2018 after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography, and Naya Rivera, who suffered a drowning accident in 2020.

This phenomenon is the basis for Investigation Discovery’s new docuseries, The Price Of Glee. Airing roughly eight years after Glee wrapped in 2015, the project chronicles the untimely deaths of both cast and crew members and details behind-the-scenes moments of alleged tension and drama, beginning with a fitting quote about the show from creator Ryan Murphy: “What started off as being such a great celebration of love and acceptance ultimately became about darkness and death.”

It’s important to note that neither Murphy nor any of the main cast are involved in the three-part documentary, which premiered Monday (Jan. 16) on ID and is available for streaming on Discovery+ that same day. In fact, some of the former New Directioners have denounced the docuseries altogether.

Kevin McHale, who played Artie Abrams, likened it to trash, and in December told In Touch that he and his castmates had “nothing to do with it.” Chord Overstreet, who played Sam Evans, called it “bulls–t” on the Elvis Duran radio show.

The stories that are included in The Price of Glee come from various crew members and some actors who served as stand-ins for the main cast. Rivera’s father, George Rivera, is also featured in the doc, as are a couple of Cory Monteith’s former friends — one of whom is Stephen Kramer Glickman, a supporting actor on Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush, who claimed to have befriended Monteith while their respective shows were filming near each other.

A$AP Rocky Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary of ‘Long.Live.ASAP’ With ‘Angels Pt. 2’ Music Video: Watch

A$AP Rocky‘s discography has just hit a major milestone. The rapper’s debut studio album, Long.Live.ASAP, recently marked the 10th anniversary of its release, and to celebrate, he dropped a new visual on Monday (Jan. 16) to accompany album track “Angels.”

“TODAY MARKS THE 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY FOR MY 1ST COMMERCIAL ALBUM! I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO REFLECT & THINK ABOUT THE PPL I MISS & THE TIMES WE HAD,” the 33-year-old wrote on Instagram Monday, when he shared a clip of the video. “RIP YAMS & VIRGIL , THANK YOU FOR THE HELP ON THIS 1ST PROJECT. LONG. LIVE. A$AP. ANGELS. PT 2 AWGE EDIT OUT NOW!”

“Angels Pt. 2” picks up where Rocky’s original “Angels” video left off: The rapper, surrounded by his posse of friends, dominating neighborhoods in both New York City and California. A$AP and his crew find themselves riding around town in flashy cars, gambling on sidewalks, smoking and generally doing as they please. To honor Yams, Rocky placed a halo on his head in the moments he appeared in the video. Yams, one of the founding members of the A$AP Mob, died from an acute mixed drug intoxication in January 2015.

Long. Live. ASAP was released on Jan. 15, 2013. The set — which features guest spots from Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Schoolboy Q and more — spent a total of 79 weeks on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart and peaked at No. 1. The album spawned four singles: “Goldie,” “Wild for the Night,” “Fashion Killa” and “F—in’ Problems,” the latter of which peaked at No. 8 and spent a total of 27 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.

The Weeknd Communes With the Na’vi in Otherworldly ‘Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)’ Video

The Weeknd dropped his otherworldly video for “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” on Monday (Jan. 16). The dreamy song from the soundtrack to the box office juggernaut Avatar: The Way of Water is spotlighted in the Quentin Deronzier-directed visual featuring a frantic adventure for the film’s signature lanky blue-skinned Na’Vi, who frolic in their lush Pandora home before a raging forest fire forces them to flee to a watery world.

The singer is briefly featured at the beginning of the clip, his profile illuminated by blue light amid flashes of fire and water before the action turns to the lush, bioluminescent jungles of Pandora. We watch as the Na’Vi sprint while fire engulfs their world, frantically running through the embers and flames to the strains of the song’s lush orchestration. The moody underwater shots give a small glimpse of the magical world conjured by director James Cameron in the long-awaited sequel to the 2009 original, the highest-grossing film of all time.

“Nothing is Lost” was written by the Weeknd, with production by Swedish House Mafia and the film’s score composer, Simon Franglen; it plays over the end credits of the movie that is already closing in on global box office receipts nearing $2 billion. The track takes a sonic cue from Gerard McCann’s “Cry Little Sister” from the 1987 cult classic The Lost Boys.

“I thought I could protect you from paying for my sins/ You give me strength/ I would do either way/ Nothing’s lost/ No more pain, just you,” the Weekend sings on the track.

Madonna’s “Borderline” from 1984 spent 30 weeks on the Hot 100.
