Fall Out Boy Bust Out Live Debut of New Singles at Surprise Hometown Club Show

For a band that spent most of last year playing stadiums around the world, Fall Out Boy scaled way down on Wednesday night (Jan. 25) for a super-rare club show at Chicago’s legendary 1,100-capacity Metro. The hits-heavy set featured a pair of singles from the band’s upcoming eighth studio album, So Much (For) Stardust (March 24) beginning with the live public debut of “Love From the Other Side” and, later in the set, “Heartbreak Feels So Good.”

Performing as a trio in the absence of guitarist Joe Trohman — who last week announced that he was taking an indefinite mental health hiatus — fan-posted videos from the gig showed singer Patrick Stump pulling double-duty on lead vocals and electric guitar alongside bassist Pete Wentz and drummer Andy Hurley in their first full headline show since Trohman’s leave-taking.

As was the case during a pair of previous promotional appearances, the group got some assistance from longtime guitar tech Ben Young, who on Wednesday night played six-string off to Stump’s right side near the stage wings on songs including “Calm Before the Storm,” a track from the Chicago-bred group’s 2003 debut EP, Fall Out Boy’s Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, which they hadn’t played live since 2007.

According to a report from local rock station Q101 (which sponsored the show), the 19-song, career-spanning set included other way-back favorites, including “Grand Theft Autumn,” “Chicago Is So Two Years Ago” and “Saturday” from the group’s their 2003 debut full-length, Take This to Your Grave, as well as such beloved hits as “Sugar, We’re Goin’ Down,” “Uma Thurman,” “Dance, Dance,” “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up).”

Though no tour dates have been announced yet for the band’s Stardust era, for now, the source said Young will be “filling in and providing support” for any additional promotional appearances and any yet-to-be-determined future tour dates. Young, frontman for the band Knifes, has also been a guitar tech for Alkaline Trio, Linkin Park and Deftones in the past.

Trohman plays on the new album but will not participate in promotion around the project. The guitarist has been with the band since its early 2000s formation in the suburbs of Chicago, alongside singer Stump, Wentz and Hurley. In an Instagram post last he said, “Without divulging all the details, I must disclose that my mental health has rapidly deteriorated over the past several years. So, to avoid fading away and never returning, I will be taking a break from work which regrettably includes stepping away from Fall Out Boy for a spell.” Trohman promised that he will “absolutely” be back with the group at some point.

Check out some video and pictures from the show and the set list (via Q101) below.

How Sam Smith Orchestrated That Surprise Cameo on ‘SNL’: ‘It Has to Be Sharon Stone’

Sam Smith stunned onstage for a moving performance of “Gloria” during Saturday Night Live, and the four-time Grammy winner surprised fans when Sharon Stone joined them for a cameo.

During the song, the Oscar-nominated actress lounged on a gold-covered couch. Surrounded by a group of darkly robed singers, Smith — who was draped in a gold sequin blazer — beautifully crooned the track while Stone slowly rose from her reclined position and gazed off into the distance.

Smith opened up about the decision to have Stone join them for the performance in a new interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, airing on Thursday (Jan. 26).

“I wanted to do the hymn ‘Gloria’ that I wrote for the record, which is a wild one because I’m not even … I’m hardly singing on it,” they shared. “I sing at the end of it, but it’s a whole choir. On my tour, the stage is shaped like Aphrodite, so, like, the golden Aphrodite body. And that’s the shape of the stage. I was like, ‘How can we bring that vibe to SNL?’”

They continued, “Sharon Stone is going to be in the middle of the stage at SNL in gold as like a piece of life art. The whole performance is just the choir around her singing ‘Gloria’ to her in this golden light. Isn’t it so sick? … I was like, ‘It has to be Sharon Stone,’ and I messaged Sharon. She’s just such a powerful woman. But she’s a powerful woman, and she exudes vulnerability and beauty in a way that to me is real and authentic.”

Gloria, the follow-up to 2020’s Love Goes, features the previously released singles “Love Me More,” “Gimme” and the Kim Petras-assisted hit “Unholy,” which reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 2022 and is nominated for best pop duo/group performance at the 2023 Grammy Awards.

Taylor Swift Announces ‘Lavender Haze’ Music Video: ‘Meet Me At Midnight …’

Taylor Swift is dropping the “Lavender Haze” music video at last. In a surprise post on her social media accounts Thursday morning (Jan. 26), the 33-year-old pop star finally announced the highly anticipated visual for the first song on the Midnights tracklist … and yes, it’s premiering at 12 a.m. sharp.

“Meet me at midnight…,” Swift captioned the posts. “…for the Lavender Haze music video premiere (!!!!!!!!!!!!!)”

The 11-time Grammy winner also shared a short, 9-second video teaser for the project, in which she sits up in bed, wearing an oversized T-shirt, with her partner sleeping beside her. As the opening bars to “Lavendar Haze” play, thick, purple fog rolls into the room.

“FINALLY,” several fans individually replied to the “All Too Well” singer’s announcement.

A countdown for the premiere is already up on Swift’s YouTube channel, featuring a still from the video of the singer-songwriter bathing in creamy purple water, hair soaked and lips painted a dark violet.

Swifties have been waiting for the “Lavender Haze” music video for about three months now, ever since the “Bejeweled” music video premiered in late October. Swift shared the Cinderella-inspired “Bejeweled” visual just two weeks after dropping the first Midnights music video, which was for the album’s No. 1 lead single, “Anti-Hero.”

One could even argue that Swifties have been waiting for this one since before Midnights even came out, as Swift actually shared a teaser video for all of the album’s music videos during Thursday Night Football, mere hours before Midnights hit streaming services Oct. 21.

“Those projects are the Midnights Music Movies, the music videos that I made for this album to sort of explore visually the world of this record,” she said at the time. “I love storytelling, I love songwriting, I love writing videos, I love directing them … I’m really proud of what we made and I really hope you like them. We worked with some amazing actors.”

‘American Idol’ Announces Premiere Date For 21st Season

Get ready for dreams to come true next month when American Idol returns for its 21st season. In a Las Vegas-themed teaser tweet on Wednesday (Jan. 25), judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were joined by host Ryan Seacrest as the quartet posed next to a giant slot machine to announce that the prime time singing competition will be back on your screens starting Feb. 19.

The ABC series promo promises “the best is yet to come” and in her twist on the announcement, Perry — who, of course, is in the midst of her Vegas “Play” residency — wrote, “American Idol has been making dreams come true for 21 years, you think we’re not gonna go BIG?!” alongside slot machine, music note and dice emoji.

The 2022 season was won by Kentucky country singer Noah Thompson, who beat out runner-up HunterGirl. Thompson, who said he ended up on the show because a friend signed him up, posted a tribute to the viewers who supported him following his win, writing, “Had a hard time making this post because I truly couldn’t find the words to say.. I was In complete shock in this moment and I still am and I probably always will be! Thank you all for giving me this opportunity, thank you for everyone who voted, thank you guys so much for everything!! I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you all so thank you guys so so much. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey and seeing where this thing goes. Love all of you all.”

Thompson’s just dropped the video for his new single, “Make You Rich,” this week.

Margo Price Invites You To Get Mellow With Her Line of ‘Margo Grass’ CBD Joints and Flower

Margo Price is not shy about her taste for the sticky icky. So it makes perfect sense that the singer has teamed up with the cannabis brand Dad Grass to announce a new line of Mom Grass products that officially drop today (Jan. 26). Timed to coincide with Price’s mind-expanding new album, Strays, the joint-project features pre-rolled CBD joints and tins of flower, as well as a limited-edition run of merch that leans into the psychedelic vibe of the album, which mixes country, rock and songs inspired by magic mushroom adventures.

The run includes handmade, limited-edition “Margo Grass” embroidered hats and small batch natural indigo tie-dyed shirts to compliment the federally legal Mom Grass flower and joints made with CBG. According to a release, the products feature low-dose organic hemp packed with CBG, which contains less than 0.3% THC, which won’t get you Snoop-level high and is federally legal to have delivered to your home.

“I have battled insomnia, menstrual cramps, migraines, back pain, depression, hangovers, writer’s block and boredom with cannabis that’s high in CBG, and I want to help remove the stigma around this beautiful plant,” Price said in a statement.

Among the items in the collection are the Mom Grass x Margo Price special edition pack in 5 or 10-joint versions with pre-rolls in a trippy sleeve designed in collaboration with the singer that nods to the mushroom jumpsuit she wears on the album’s cover and lyrics from her song “Been to the Mountain.”

The Price collection is the follow up to last year’s George Harrison-inspired “All Things Must Grass” collection honoring the late Beatles’ iconic 1970 triple-LP solo album.

Watch Riley Keough Rock Out in Trailer For ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’

As the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, Riley Keough has rock in her DNA. The Terminal List star proves it in the first trailer for the upcoming Amazon Prime Video show Daisy Jones & The Six, a limited series in which Keough plays Jones alongside the rest of the Six — Sam Claflin, Suki Waterhouse, Will Harrison, Josh Whitehouse and Sebastian Chacon — in a story about a fictional 1970s band whose meteoric rise to fame crashed and burned after a sold-out show at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

The show catches up with the group decades later as they finally agree to sit for interviews to tell the real story of what caused their blow-up. The trailer opens with Keough’s Jones slowly walking to the stage as an unseen crowd shouts her name, intercut with images of hordes of fans mobbing the group at the airport and Jones doing a dramatic spin on stage in a gauzy, butterfly-like top that will give viewers some serious Stevie Nicks vibes.

“Look, I know that I said I would tell you everything, but how much of everything do you really wanna know,” Jones says to an interviewer years later. With the urgent first single, “Regret Me,” swelling up, the trailer then cuts to a montage of the group on their way to the top, touring in an old 1970s microbus, playing a gig in the desert, laying down tracks in the recording studio and then falling apart in slow motion.

The limited series from Amazon Studios and Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine is based on the 2019 New York Times bestselling novel that was optioned by the actresses’ media company a year before it even hit shelves. According to a description, “the group became a band both on-screen and off – with some of the multi-hyphenates learning their character’s instrument for the very first time during production, and Keough and Claflin lending their vocals to each track.”

The series was directed by Grammy-winning songwriter/producer Blake Mills (Bob Dylan, Fiona Apple) and it features songs co-written by Marcus Mumford, Phoebe Bridgers and Jackson Browne, with additional production from producer Tony Berg and instrumental help from performers in Rilo Kiley, The Who, Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam, David Bowie, Elton John, Jeff Beck, The Wallflowers, and others.

“Creating the library of music for Daisy Jones and The Six was an experience I’ll never forget,” said Mills in a statement. “I am grateful that, among other things, it afforded me an opportunity to collaborate with so many of my peers, and also some of my heroes.”

Atlantic Records will release the 11-track debut album from the group, Aurora, on March 3 (the same day the show premieres), including the roaring country rock lead single, “Regret Me.” The song sung by Keough’s Jones and her bandmate Billy Dunne (Claflin) was “written” by the star-crossed pair in the 1970s for Aurora and released on their fictional record label, Ellemar Records.

Ozzy Osbourne Is the Co-Worker From Hell in Preview of Super Bowl LVII Commercial

Imagine hanging in the office break room with the Prince of Darkness. Heavy metal icon Ozzy Osbourne gets dressed up for work in a dress shirt, tie and an office-appropriate amount of eyeliner in the 15-second preview of his upcoming Super Bowl LVII commercial for workplace finance/HR software company Workday in which the Blizzard of Oz tries to fit in with his fellow desk jockeys.

In the clip, Ozzy plays the fresh face in the typing pool who doesn’t quite fit in with the rest of the worker bees. “Who’s the new guy,” asks his cubicle mate, as the woman at the desk next to him whispers, “I don’t know, but he’s supposed to be some kind of rock star.”

Cue Ozzy spinning around in his chair looking sweetly menacing, what with his tattoos, handful of rings, long hair and raccoon eyes. “Which one of you wants a piercing?,” he asks sweetly as the guy across from him points to their co-worker. “On Sunday, February 12th, the corporate world will be rocked,” the screen reads at the end of the clip. According to Variety, the full one-minute ad from the first-time Super Bowl advertiser Workday slated to air in the third quarter will also feature Joan Jett and Gary Clark Jr.

The description of the preview reads, “Where are the rock stars in your organization? Look around—they might be sitting right next to you. Join Ozzy as he gets ready to rock the corporate world on football’s biggest stage.” This year’s Super Bowl will take place on Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Austin Butler Credits ‘Clairvoyant’ Vanessa Hudgens for ‘Elvis’ Role

Austin Butler caught some heat from fans earlier this month when he referred to his ex-girlfriend Vanessa Hudgens as an unnamed “friend” when discussing how he landed the role of Elvis Presley in the 2022 Baz Luhrmann biopic for The Hollywood Reporter‘s Actor’s Roundtable.

However, in a new interview with The Los Angeles Times, Butler cleared up that the friend was in fact Hudgens, whom he dated for nearly a decade before the duo split in 2020. “I was with my partner at the time,” he told the reporter, who recalled Butler’s story, in which he was in the car when his “friend” heard him singing along to an Elvis song and encouraged him to seek out the role of the King of Rock and Roll.

“The month before I heard that Baz was making the movie, I was going to look at Christmas lights with a friend, and there was an Elvis Christmas song on the radio and I was singing along, and my friend looked over at me and goes, ‘You’ve got to play Elvis.’ I said, ‘Oh, that’s such a long shot,’” Butler said during the THR interview, without mentioning Hudgens by name. Fans pieced together that the High School Musical star was the subject of the story, as she told a nearly identical anecdote back on a 2019 episode of Live with Kelly and Ryan

When the LA Times reporter followed up, asking if the person in the car was Hudgens, Butler agreed. “We’d been together for so long and she had this sort of clairvoyant moment and so I really, I owe her a lot for believing in me,” he shared.
