Kid Rock (Literally) Takes Shots at Bud Light After Brand Teams With Trans Activist

Kid Rock is taking out his frustration on a few dozen cans of Bud Light.

Late Monday night (April 3), the “Bad Reputation” singer posted a video of himself across his social media accounts, speaking directly to the camera. Wearing a white MAGA hat, the rock-rapper said that “Grandpa’s feeling a bit frisky today,” and promised to be as “clear and concise as possible” with his statement.

The “Devil Without a Cause” singer then lifted up a semi-automatic rifle and opened fire on three cases of Bud Light propped up on a wooden table. Ceasing his fire on the beer cans, Rock looked back into the camera to make his point clear: “F–k Bud Light, and f–k Anheuser-Busch.”

The video came shortly after trans activist Dylan Mulvaney teamed up with Anheuser-Busch to promote the brand’s Easy Carry Contest, posting a video of herself talking about the campaign and even receiving “possibly the best gift ever” — a commemorative can of Bud Light with her face on it.

Mulvaney’s video immediately sparked outrage from right-wing commentators, who lambasted the brand for working with a transgender influencer. Anheuser-Busch responded to the backlash in a statement to Fox News, saying the company works with “hundreds of influencers across our brands as one of many ways to authentically connect with audiences across various demographics and passion points,” and adding that Mulvaney’s commemorative can “was a gift to celebrate a personal milestone and is not for sale to the general public.”

The ongoing backlash comes at a time when transgender people are being targeted at a steady cadence by state legislatures around the U.S. Kentucky became the latest state to pass anti-trans legislation into law last week when lawmakers overrode Gov. Andy Beshear‘s veto of a bill banning gender-affirming care for anyone under the age of 18, while also compelling physicians to cease any ongoing gender-transition care for minors.

Billboard has reached out to Kid Rock, Dylan Mulvaney and Anheuser-Busch for comment.

Watch Travis Barker & Kourtney Kardashian Marry 3 Times in ‘Til Death Do Us Part’ Trailer

Travis Barker and Kourtney Kardashian had not one, not two, but three wedding ceremonies. And in their new Hulu special, ‘Til Death Do Us Part — which now has a release date and trailer — the couple will share behind-the-scenes footage from each one.

As announced Tuesday (April 4), the reality show will premiere Thursday, April 13, on the streaming service. In addition to the Blink-182 drummer and Kardashian’s weddings in Las Vegas and Santa Barbara, ‘Til Death Do Us Part will chronicle the pair’s big-budget, ultra glamorous tying of the knot in Portofino, Italy.

“This is our personal archive footage that we are sharing with the world,” the Poosh founder says in a short trailer for the show, before turning to ask Barker, “Can you believe we got married three times?”

“It’s like choosing a child,” the musician responds. “I can’t pick the best one.”

The trailer also features closeup shots of Kardashian’s romantic wedding gown along with clips of her famous sisters — Kim, Khloe, Kendall and Kylie — enjoying different moments from the couple’s big day. Barker’s daughter Alabama also makes an appearance in the trailer, as does his longtime collaborator and friend Machine Gun Kelly.

The final wedding took place in May 2022 at the seaside estate of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana (yes, that Dolce and Gabbana) in Portofino, with the pair surrounded by friends and family. It came a few months after Kardashian and Barker got engaged in October of 2021, previously going public with their relationship on Valentine’s Day that year.

Jonas Brothers Will Take Over Yankee Stadium for One Night Only Concert

The Jonas Brothers announced on Tuesday (April 4) that they’re headed to Yankee Stadium this summer for a special, one-night-only show.

“NEW YORK! We’ve been dreaming about this one our whole lives. Five albums. One Epic Night. Saturday, August 12 at Yankee Stadium,” the pop stars wrote on social to break the news. They also told fans who’d registered for their recent five-night residency on Broadway to check their emails for information about how to get first access to tickets via a special Verified Fan presale. Tickets will go on sale April 14 via Ticketmaster.

Joe Jonas teased the surprise in the closing moments of their final Broadway show back in mid-March, telling the audience, “Until next time or should I say, until this summer, we’ll see you!” after previewing eight songs of the JoBros’ forthcoming studio set The Album.

The Album is set to be released May 12 via Republic Records and has been preceded by the ’70s-inflected lead single “Wings.” Meanwhile, the next single, “Waffle House,” will arrive this Friday (April 7). “‘Waffle House’ was born from a simple but powerful idea: When you sit down with the people that matter most, anything is possible. This song isn’t about a restaurant, it’s about coming together with the people you love and making your dreams come true,” the siblings previewed last week about the upcoming track.

To celebrate The Album‘s release, the trio are also slated to perform as the musical guests on Saturday Night Live for the April 8 episode hosted by former cast member Molly Shannon.

After a Mysterious 5-Year Hiatus, Pretty Lights Returns With 27-Date Tour & New Music

After nearly five years of silence, Pretty Lights has announced his return on Tuesday (April 4).

This morning, the elusive, New Orleans-based producer shared a two-minute video via social media announcing The Soundship Spacesystem Tour. The video also previews his first official new music since 2017’s “Rainbows & Waterfalls.”

The Soundship Spacesystem Tour will hit nine stops: Denver, Lake Dillon, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Chicago, Pelham, San Francisco, and New Orleans. Besides the stop at The Caverns in Pelham, Tenn., Pretty Lights did not yet give any detail as to which venues he would be playing or specific dates. Each stop will feature Pretty Lights playing multiple nights, with 27 shows in the nine cities in total.

Pretty Lights was also announced as one of the headliners of Suwannee Hulaween, the annual three-day music festival happening at the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park in Florida this October 26-29. (This performance, however, was not listed as a stop on the tour.) Capping off a big morning, Pretty Lights was today also named the headliner for a new festival, Cascade Equinox, happening this September in Redmond, Ore. This new show will be produced by the organizers of Arizona’s longtime Gem & Jam fest.

Meanwhile the official Pretty Lights tour will include two new types of performances: Pretty Lights in Dub and The Fantastic Pretty Lights, the latter of which is expected to be a collaboration with longtime friend Michal Menert and The Pretty Fantastics.

The Soundship Spacesystem Tour announcement video features Pretty Lights performing a new, currently unnamed song with lyrics that seem to reflect his return to the scene: “I’ll fly a starship across the universe tonight/ And when I reach the other side/ I’ll find a place to rest my spirit if I can/ Perhaps I may become a pretty light again/ Or I may simply be a single drop of rain/ But I will remain/ And I’ll be back again.” Hear this track below.

Pretty Lights’ absence from the industry over the past five years has been a mysterious one. The producer, born Derek Vincent Smith, had last live appearance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in 2018, where he headlined the venue with his live band over two sold-out nights. Following those shows, Pretty Lights wiped his social media and began an unannounced hiatus, leaving his cult following wondering when he would return.

Throughout the duration of this hiatus, Pretty Lights made brief public appearances. In April 2020, shortly after the protests surrounding the death of George Floyd, Pretty Lights wiped his Instagram account and announced that he would be donating $10,000 to “help support the heroes on the frontlines of this movement.” He also vaguely mentioned how it was time to start participating again.

Several months later, Pretty Lights appeared virtually during a live performance from friends and collaborators Break Science. On a screen behind the band, he remotely jammed with them for two of his songs, “Shining Bright Despite The Plight” and “High School Art Class.” Two years later, this past February, Pretty Lights appeared in a promotional video for Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom, a small Denver venue that was celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Elements Music Festival 2023 Adds REZZ, Lane 8, STS9 & More: See the Lineup

With festival season 2023 roaring currently roaring to life, Pennsylvania’s Elements Festival has thrown its hat in the ring with an expanded lineup for its upcoming event.

Elements 2023 — which takes place August 11-14 in Long Pond, Penn. — announced on Tueday (April 4) that it will feature Gorgon City, Lane 8, REZZ, Seven Lions, STS9, Eli & Fur, Giolì & Assia, Lotus, Will Clarke, Moore Kismet, Coco & Breezy, a live show from Manic Focus, Tony y Not and more.

These artists join a pre-existing lineup that feature Skrillex, Porter Robinson, John Summit, LP Giobbi, Chris Lake, Tokimonsta and many more.

The sixth edition of the camping festival is taking place roughly two hours north of Philadelphia. In addition to music, the festival will offer health and wellness activities including yoga, aromatherapy, dance, comedy and sound baths, workshops, art cars and a 24-hour food court featuring local, organic food provided by Pocono Organics, one of North America’s largest regenerative organic certified farms. Tickets for Elements 2023 are on sale now.

Elements made headlines during the pandemic for producing 250-person mini gatherings, using a robust system or protocols that founders say helped establish the show among agents and artists.

“It was a super small-scale event, but doing all of that, seeing how it went and working out all the kinks was a really smart thing, because now agents, artists and management are all really confident that we will pull off the safest festival possible,” Tim Monkiewicz, who founded Elements with Brett Herman, told Billboard in 2021. “There’s been a lot more camaraderie this time around, and it’s been a really nice feeling to feel that we’re on the same team, even though they’re trying to get more money for their client and I’m trying to get them for cheaper.”

Chloe Bailey Reveals Beyoncé ‘Gave Me Notes’ on Debut Album ‘In Pieces’

Most musicians can’t say that the most-awarded artist in Grammy history gave them pointers on their debut album, but Chloe Bailey can. The 24-year-old singer revealed at the premiere of her new movie Praise This that none other than Beyoncé listened to In Pieces, Bailey’s brand new solo record, before its release and provided constructive criticism that any rising star would kill for.

“Yes, I know she listened to the album,” Bailey shared when asked by ET if the “Break My Soul” singer had heard In Pieces yet. “She gave me notes on it before I released it.”

“I love her so much,” Bailey continued. “Dearly, dearly, and I’m so grateful to her for everything.”

Bey and Bailey have been friends for years, with the former serving as a mentor for the latter since 2015. It was that year when the Ivy Park founder took notice of Chloe and her younger sister, Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey, after the two covered “Pretty Hurts” from 2013’s Beyoncé. Bey later signed the duo to her Parkwood Entertainment management company.

Queen B even presented Chloe and Halle with the Rising Star Award at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, gushing that she was “so proud” of the sisters. “You’ve done this with authenticity, with grace, with raw talent, and you manage to shine in every room you enter, and I’ll always love you,” Bey continued at the time.

Since being taken under Beyoncé’s wing, Chloe x Halle have released three LPs: 2017’s The Two of Us, 2018’s The Kids Are Alright and 2020’s Ungodly Hour. The elder Bailey went on to kick off a solo career with her 2021 debut single “Have Mercy.”

Bailey also opened up about how she’s feeling now following In Pieces‘ March 31 release. “I was so nervous, and now I just feel at peace,” the Swarm actress confessed. “I’m so happy it’s out. I got to say everything I wanted to say, and I hope people get an insight more into who Chloe is.”

Jonathan McReynolds & Dante Bowe Tie for Gospel Songwriter of the Year at 2023 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards

Dante Bowe and Jonathan McReynolds tied as BMI’s Gospel Songwriter of the Year at the 2023 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards, which were held at Flourish in Atlanta on Thursday, March 30. Mike O’Neill, BMI’s president and CEO, and Catherine Brewton, vice president, creative, Atlanta, hosted the event.

Bowe and McReynolds each wrote two of the most performed gospel songs of the previous year. Bowe was honored for “Joyful” and “Promises” and McReynolds for “Brighter” and “Grace.”

BMI Gospel Song of the Year went to “Believe for It,” written by CeCe Winans and Mitch Wong (APRA). The song spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs chart and garnered multiple accolades including two GMA Dove Awards and a Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song.

BMI’s Gospel Publisher of the Year went to Be Essential Songs for publishing award-winning songs “Brighter,” “Jireh,” “Promises” and “Something Has to Break.”

Gospel music superstars Tamela & David Mann and Dr. Bobby Jones received Trailblazer of Gospel Music honors.

The musical tributes to The Manns kicked off with Zacardi Cortez and Anaysha Figueroa-Cooper performing “Now Behold the Lamb,” followed by Lisa Knowles-Smith performing “Take Me to the King.” After accepting the honor, Tamela Mann surprised the audience with a performance of her hit “Change Me,” which spent 23 weeks at No. 1 on Hot Gospel Songs.

The tribute performances honoring Jones’ legacy kicked off with The Company singing “What a Friend,” followed by a rendition of “Bring it to Jesus” featuring Beverly Crawford.

During the ceremony, the late, legendary Otis Redding was honored with four BMI Million-Air Awards, a distinction that recognizes songwriters whose works have surpassed one million broadcast performances on radio. The songs were “Sweet Soul Music” (4 million performances), “Hard to Handle” (7 million performances), “Respect” (7 million performances) and BMI’s Song of the Year in 1968, the classic “(Sittin’ on) the Dock of the Bay” (12 million performances).  Family members, including Redding’s widow Zelma and their daughter Karla Redding-Andrews, accepted the honors on behalf of her father and the Otis Redding Foundation.

The luncheon began with McReynolds, Chandler Moore and Kirk Franklin performing a medley of three of BMI’s award-winning songs, “Grace,” “Jireh” and “Kingdom.”

Additional performances included a tribute to the late singer-producer-choir director Kevin Lemons, who was known for his work with Donald Lawrence and the Company, and his own group, Kevin Lemons and Higher Calling. Members of Higher Calling hit the stage for a performance of “Perfect Peace” accompanied by Donald Lawrence and The Company.

Other award-winning songs performed throughout the evening included “Just Like God” by Evvie McKinney, “Great” by Kelontae Gavin and “Wonderful is Your Name” by Melvin Crispell.

Sam Smith & Kim Petras’ ‘Unholy’ Crosses 1 Billion Spotify Streams

If you feel like you’ve heard Sam Smith and Kim Petras‘ “Unholy” approximately one billion times, new data might show you’re close to being right.

On Monday (April 3), Spotify announced that Smith and Petras were the latest inductees into the company’s Billions Club, after the pair’s viral hit single “Unholy” crossed the 1 billion streams mark. This is Smith’s fifth song to enter the Billions Club (following his tracks “Stay With Me,” “I’m Not the Only One,” “Too Good at Goodbyes” and “Dancing With a Stranger” with Normani, respectively), and Petras’ first.

To celebrate the news, Smith took to their social media to share a compilation video of the song’s success, showing off behind-the-scenes clips from the shoot of the music video, as well as viral dance challenges, beauty tutorials and covers of the track from TikTok. At the conclusion, Smith offered a simple message to their fans: “Thank you,” the text read.

Along with achieving the milestone, Smith and Petras’ “Unholy” has been added to Spotify’s Billions Club playlist, which was created in 2021 in order to help fans discover songs that had reached the formidable goal. “Spotify has long celebrated artist milestones and we wanted to find a unique way to honor the artists and songs fans can’t stop listening to,” Ashley Graver, the then-global head of creative artist partnerships, told Billboard at the time.

While “Unholy” continues to rack up streams, both Smith and Petras are pursuing new creative endeavors. Smith is currently preparing to embark on their globe-spanning Gloria Tour, which kicks off its European leg on April 12 at Sheffield’s Utilita Arena. Petras, meanwhile, has been teasing new music for the last few weeks, putting out an image of her backside on Tuesday with the caption “all will be revealed on Thursday.”

The song, originally released in May 2021 via Team Eighty/Arista Records (and billed as by Lola Brooke featuring Billy B), opens with 17.1 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 19%), 5.7 million U.S. streams (up 124%) and 600 downloads sold (up 194%) March 24-30, according to Luminate.

Spurring the song’s latest gains is its new remix, released March 24, with Latto and Yung Miami (both credited as lead artists on the Hot 100; Billy B is billed as featured).

The track concurrently jumps 22-11 on Hot Rap Songs and 33-21 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Radio wise, the song rises 8-5 on Rap Airplay, 10-6 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and 13-9 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and holds at its No. 20 high on Rhythmic Airplay. On the all-genre-format Radio Songs chart, the song rises 48-44.

TikTok has been a factor in the song’s growing profile, as a portion of the track has been used in nearly 450,000 videos on the platform. Another version, a mash-up with 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop,” has been used in nearly 600,000 clips. (TikTok does not contribute directly to Billboard‘s charts.)

Brooke and Billy B are both newcomers to Billboard’s charts, as “Play” became both acts’ first entries.

Brooke has been releasing music since 2018, starting with her breakout single “Bipolar.” She also appears on a new remix, released March 17, of Hitkidd, Gloss Up, K Carbon, Slimeroni and Aleza’s “Shabooya,” which ranks at No. 15 on Rap Airplay, No. 17 on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, No. 19 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay and No. 24 on Rhythmic Airplay.

In December, Future brought out Brooke during his New Year’s Eve show at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, generating a viral clip during her hometown performance and earning a co-sign from Missy Elliott on Twitter. Brooke signed to Arista, in collaboration with Team Eighty Productions, the following week.

“Lola is the rare talent whose presence matches her message,” Arista CEO David Massey said at the time. “Her music is larger than life, but her vision is just as powerful.”

Billboard named Brooke its R&B/Hip-Hop Rookie of the Month in February.
