Ben Platt & Molly Gordon Sing Beyonce, ABBA Hits & More for Song Association

Ben Platt and Molly Gordon came ready to sing theater classics and modern favorites for Elle‘s Song Association shared Saturday (July 15).

The magazine’s Song Association game gives its guests a word, and are then tasked with singing a song that contains the given word in 10 seconds or less. Platt, however, was more than prepared and did not break a sweat during the game.

“I think I’m gonna do incredibly well, I’m not gonna lie. My family plays a game called Sing Down in our car trips. That’s basically exactly this game,” he said, to which Gordon added, “This is your worst nightmare, Elle.”

The game kicked off with the word “boy,” and the pair, naturally, figured out a theater classic within the allotted 10 seconds. “Boy, boy, crazy boy/ Get cool, boy/ Got a rocket/ In your pocket/ Stay cool boy,” the pair sang from their selection “Cool” from West Side Story.

Platt and Gordon brought it back to the 2020s when the word “break” rolled around. Their choice? “You won’t break my soul/ You won’t break my soul,” as in Beyoncé’s Renaissance hit “Break My Soul.” Gordon hilariously remarked the former Destiny’s Child singer was her mother, while Platt remarked that he misses the pop icon.

ABBA also made an appearance in the game when the word “super” was assigned to the duo. “Super trouper, lights are gonna find you/ But I won’t feel blue,” Platt and Gordon sang from the group’s 1980 classic “Super Trouper.” Elsewhere in the game, the pair performed tracks from Mean Girls the musical, Camp Rock, Alice by Heart, Rihanna and Platt’s own catalog. Platt and Gordon finished the game with a solid 13 out of 15.

Platt and Gordon star as Amos Klobuchar and Rebecca-Diane in the film Theater Camp, released on July 14. The plot sees the duo, along with a band of other quirky theater camp counselors, coaching budding performers at AdirondACTS, an upstate New York theater camp. The founder of the camp, Joan Rubinsky (Amy Sedaris) falls ill, leaving her son, Troy (Jimmy Tatro), to team up with Klobuchar and Rebecca-Diane to keep the institution afloat.

Messi’s Inter Miami Presentation: Camilo, Paulo Londra & More Perform Despite Rain Delay

Seven months after the Argentina national soccer team won the 2022 FIFA World Cup, its MVP star Lionel Messi has moved to Miami to join the Inter Miami CF soccer club, co-owned by David Beckham. Messi’s official star-studded presentation was held at the DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday (July 16) — and despite a horrible thunderstorm delay, the show went on.

Gates for the sports event — called La PresentaSÍon and co-hosted by MLS Season Pass personalities Melissa Ortiz and Tony Cherchi — opened at 6 p.m., but the inauguration did not start until two hours later due to the gusty winds and heavy rains. “It started raining a little bit, it’s only a little bit, nothing’s wrong,” Argentina rapper Paulo Londra sarcastically said on his Instagram stories.

Londra, alongside Camilo, Tiago PZK and Bresh were the confirmed performers of the night. Ozuna was also announced in the lineup, but he did not perform on Sunday night. Other music acts — such as Anuel AA and Piso 21 — enjoyed the evening from the side seats.

Camilo was set to perform with his band, but instead played alone with his guitar.(A source close to the artist tells Billboard the weather became challenging for performers.) He was also joined on stage by his wife and pop artist, Evaluna Montaner.

“I have a lot of desire to start training, to start competing, I have the same desire I’ve always had, of winning, and to help this club continue growing,” Messi said during his speech. “I’m very happy to have chosen to come to this city with my family, to have picked this project. I don’t have any doubts that we’re going to have a lot of fun and share beautiful memories.”

The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner and World Cup Champion will occupy a Designated Player slot, and his contract will run through the 2025 Major League Soccer (MLS) season.

“I am honored to welcome Leo Messi and his family to their new home,” said Inter Miami CF Managing Owner Jorge Mas in an official press statement. “In 2018, we made a promise to build an ambitious club that would attract the world’s elite players. A club that would transform the global view of fútbol in the United States and ensure that wherever fútbol is discussed, your Inter Miami is part of the conversation. A heartfelt thank you to our fans that never stopped believing. Together we will continue to turn dreams into reality.”

Beckham added in a statement: “Ten years ago, when I started my journey to build a new team in Miami, I said that I dreamt of bringing the greatest players in the world to this amazing city. Players who shared the ambition I had when I joined LA Galaxy to help grow football in the U.S.A. and to build a legacy for the next generation in this sport that we love so much. Today that dream came true. I couldn’t be prouder that a player of Leo’s caliber is joining our club, but I am also delighted to welcome a good friend, an amazing person and his beautiful family to join our Inter Miami community. The next phase of our adventure starts here, and I can’t wait to see Leo take to the pitch.”

On Instagram, the music acts did not hold back from showing their respect and gratitude toward Messi.

“I’m so happy for the No. 10 and everything it represents,” Londra expressed. “The first time I saw you was in Barcelona, the second in Qatar, and today in Miami. I can already say I’m your friend … thank you for everything you teach. You connect the world with how big yet simple you are.”

“Today I had the fortune to accompany an incredible human being and the best soccer player in history,” Camilo noted on his Instagram. “While everyone paid tribute to him, he was with his wife watching his children kick the ball in front of thousands of people. We can’t say we’re not happy to have him near.”

Tiago PZK summed up his feelings in a post with two words: “Pure humility.”

The album — named after the Myers Briggs’ ISTJ personality type characterized by introversion, fact-based thought, logic and planning — contains a total of 10 tracks: the title song, in which the boys choose getting to know someone over relying on the MBTI personality type; previous single “Broken Melodies”; “Yogurt Shake”; “Skateboard”; “Blue Wave”; “Poison”; “SOS”; Pretzel (♡)”; “Starry Night” and album closer “Like We Just Met,” which all members of the group have a co-writing credit on.

Along with the album release, a video for “ISTJ” also arrived. In the visual, Mark, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Chenle and Jisung are transported to MBTI World in an ambulance time machine. The septet then arrives at the MBTI World hospital, where patients wait in line to be assigned reading and viewing material in line with various personality types. After a plug is pulled and the boys have a taste of reality, they make their escape and hop back into the ambulance time machine to head back home.

ISTJ comes after NCT DREAM’s second album Glitch Mode. Glitch Mode peaked at No. 5 on Billboard‘s Top Current Album Sales and at No. 2 on the World Albums chart. The reissued version of the album, Beatbox, peaked at No. 8 on World Albums.

Later that month, his fourth-studio effort raced to No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album continues to heat up, courtesy of his top 10 single, “fukumean,” which marked his first as a solo artist. Previously, Gunna found Hot 100 success through his collaborations, most notably “Pushin’ P,” Internet Money’s “Lemonade,” and the Lil Baby-assisted “Drip Too Hard.” Along with “fukumean,” Gunna also released other singles, including “bread & butter” and “back to the moon.”

Madame Tussauds Unveils 7 New Harry Styles Wax Figures: See the Photos

As his fans would probably say, one Harry Styles just isn’t enough. But luckily, Madame Tussauds is on a mission to make sure there’s plenty of Harries to go around, unveiling seven new wax figures of the pop star across the museum’s various locations around the world on Monday (July 17).

Featuring some of the the singer’s most iconic looks from performances and red carpet appearances, the seven figures will be distributed this month to museums in London, New York, Hollywood, Amsterdam, Berlin, Singapore and Sydney. The wax Harry in London — who wears a green suit modeled after real-life Harry’s My Policeman premiere look and took 10 months for Madame Tussauds’ artists to complete — will premiere to the general public July 27.

New York’s wax Harry is adorned with the “As It Was” singer’s famous rainbow bodysuit worn at his 2022 headlining Coachella set. Other Harries sport looks from the star’s bestselling Love On Tour global trek.

“Harry is one of the biggest stars in the world right now, from filling stadiums worldwide with his sell-out tours to being a fashion influencer, there is no denying he has left a timeless mark on popular culture,” said Madame Tussauds’ Global Brand Director Angela Jobson in a statement. “When the opportunity came up there was no hesitation, we jumped at the chance to add the Grammy award-winning superstar to our collection, and we cannot wait for fans to see him at any one of the seven venues worldwide.”

It’s not the first time Styles has been wax-ified by Madame Tussauds, but the new figures do mark his first as a soloist. A decade prior, he and bandmates Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne were replicated for a One Direction exhibit at Madame Tussauds in London — which became a popular mourning site for Directioners following Malik’s departure from the boy band in 2015.

DJ Khaled Hails Jay-Z’s Greatness at NYC Shawn Carter Foundation Gala: ‘Best Rapper That Ever Did It’

It was a celebratory weekend in the Big Apple for Jay-Z. Hours after launching the sprawling Book of HOV exhibit at the Brooklyn Public Library, the rap deity hosted the 20th anniversary Shawn Carter Foundation gala alongside his mother, Gloria Carter, on an overcast Friday night (July 14).

Dignitaries across sports, music, Hollywood, and business crossed paths at the swanky Black-tie affair at Chelsea Piers on Manhattan’s West Side.

The star-studded guest list included Beyoncé, DJ Khaled, Lil Uzi Vert, Tinashe, A$AP Ferg, Meek Mill, Babyface, Regina Hall, Fanatics CEO Michael Rubin, Yo Gotti, Miguel, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, and many more.

Khaled was the last of the stars to hit the Pier 60 red carpet but his entrance was well worth the wait. The energy of the venue noticeably refilled when he and his partner Nicole Tuck stepped out of their mocha Mercedes-Maybach S680 designed by Virgil Abloh, and his array of Khaled-isms could be heard before even being seen.

When the lights are brightest and the cameras are rolling, DJ Khaled is at his best. Strutting down the carpet in a sleek black suit and matching designer shades, the We the Best mogul agrees with Billboard‘s ranking of having his “GOD DID” collaborator atop the greatest rappers list.

“Hov is the GOAT for a lot of reasons,” he begins while taking off his sunglasses. “It would take many books to write the reason why, but for me, it’s to let you know that it’s possible. When I say possible, anything he puts his mind to he makes it happen and takes it to the higher heights.”

Even outside of music, Khaled is impressed with how Jay-Z’s been able to bring his greatness to numerous endeavors and help others along the way. “What I love about him the most is that he’s always there to help somebody,” Khaled continues. “Come on, that’s Jay-Z – the best rapper to ever do it, entrepreneur, mogul, father, family man, friend, partner. It’s too many – that’s HOV did!”

Apple Music executives Zane Lowe and Ebro Darden have had a front-row seat to the Brooklyn legend’s decorated career as longtime radio veterans for over two decades.

“Quality and consistency and knowing the time to expand and when he expanded, he did it really thoughtfully,” Lowe testifies to Jay’s brilliance. “I saw an interview with Burna Boy the other day and someone said, ‘Did it feel like a good decision?’ And he said, ‘I only make good decisions.’ And I feel like that’s JAY-Z’s mantra.”

Ebro adds to give HOV his flowers: “I think his taste, intellect and appreciation of art and culture are the real drivers when you listen to his music. Not only the things that he talks about, but how he puts it together.”

The Shawn Carter Foundation ended up raising over $20 million by the end of the night, which will benefit individuals enduring socio-economic hardships that hope to continue their education. Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez also made a notable $10 million legacy donation.

Inside the gala, Babyface delivered one of the night’s rare performances, with the Grammy-winning legend candidly raving about having the ultimate respect for Jay-Z.

“I’m honored to be here — and if you ask me to do anything, I will always do it, because you deserve that,” Babyface said to a round of applause. “You always deserved to be honored.”

Still recovering from his famous July 4 Hamptons white party, Michael Rubin is someone who has got to know Jay-Z in recent years, through the launch of the REFORM Alliance in 2019 advocating for criminal justice and partnering to purchase sports apparel brand Mitchell & Ness.

“What I’ve learned about Jay is that there is nobody who I know that steps up to do the right thing all the time,” Rubin says. “He cares as much about that as much as anything in his life. That’s what makes him an inspiration to me.”

On the flip side, Roc Nation athletes Dez Bryant and Rudy Gay have long idolized HOV while reaching the top of their respective crafts but now they’re inspired to chase their post-playing career dreams — thanks to seeing the diverse empire JAY-Z has been able to build into his 50s.

“For me, being at the end of my career, it’s something I could really look up to and try to emulate,” Gay says, while the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver adds: “He makes me feel like I can touch anything I want by watching him be great.”

Ariana Grande & Dalton Gomez Split After 2 Years of Marriage: Reports

Thank u, next? Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez have separated after two years of marriage, according to multiple reports.

According to TMZ, who was first to report the news, the couple has been separated since January and are planning to legally end their marriage. People also reports that the pair went their separate ways earlier this year.

Billboard has reached out to Grande’s reps for comment.

The singer-actress has been in the U.K. filming the Wicked movies, and was spotted at Wimbledon on Sunday (July 16) in London without her wedding ring. In photos from the tennis championship, her fingers are bare as she sits next Andrew Garfield, Tom Hiddleston and her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.

The singer and the 27-year-old luxury real estate broker wed in a private ceremony in May 2021 after getting engaged in December 2020, about 10 months after they were first spotted together in February that year. Gomez also appeared in the music video for “Stuck With U,” Grande’s lovey-dovey mid-pandemic collaboration with Justin Bieber.

The two kept their relationship mostly private, though Grande would occasionally share snaps of their life together on Instagram, including one Valentine’s Day post showing off their glamorous date night looks. The last time she posted a picture of Gomez was in November 2022.

Prior to their reported split, they attempted to reconcile without success. TMZ, People and Entertainment Tonight also report that Grande and Gomez remain friends, and talk regularly over the phone.

The R.E.M. Beauty founder was previously engaged to Pete Davidson, though she and the comic called it quits in 2018. She’s also been linked to Big Sean and Mac Miller, who passed away in September 2018.

Machine Gun Kelly Goes Wild Over Megan Fox’s Jungle Bikini Photo Shoot: ‘Maul Me’

Welcome to the jungle. Machine Gun Kelly went absolutely feral over Megan Fox’s recent bikini photo shoot, for which she posed like a wild animal perched in the trees.

In the images shared to Fox’s Instagram Saturday (July 15), the Jennifer’s Body actress models on all fours atop a thick tree branch, showing off an itty bitty bikini made sparingly out of leaves. “the forest is my oldest friend,” she captioned the post.

And of course, Fox’s animal magnetism attracted the approval of the rocker. “if this is what a wild animal looks like, i’d let it maul me,” commented MGK, born Colson Baker.

Based on the rapper-turned-punk rocker’s comment, it seems that the couple, who got engaged in January 2022, are back on solid footing. The two threw fans for a loop earlier this year, however, when Fox sparked breakup rumors by posting cryptic lyrics from Beyoncé’s Lemonade hinting that she’d been betrayed before deleting her Instagram entirely. Speculation that Baker had cheated on the Expendables 4 star with his guitarist, Sophie Lloyd swirled shortly after, but Fox later insisted that there had been “no third party interference in this relationship of any kind.”

The 37-year-old New Girl alum is on a roll with the swimwear shoots, having graced the cover of Sports Illustrated‘s swimsuit issue in May. In an interview with the magazine, Fox got real about her struggles with body dysmorphia, revealing, “There’s never a point in my life where I loved my body, never, ever.”

As for Baker, the 33-year-old Good Mourning star has been making headlines for a string of memorable performances on tour. Perhaps most notably, he fulfilled a fan’s wish to be punched in the face by the “Emo Girl” singer at Rock Werchter festival in Belgium. Prior to that, Baker made an appearance at Hellfest in France, where he was captured receiving a tattoo from his teenage daughter, Casie.

Dolly Parton Hopes She’ll ‘Drop Dead’ While Performing Her Own Song Instead of Retiring

Dolly Parton may not have a “9 to 5” schedule, but she plans on working until the end of her days. During an interview with Greatest Hits Radio‘s Ken Bruce that aired on July 13, the country icon shared her thoughts on retiring, and how she’d like to go out.

“I always believed that if you wanted your dreams to come true and you were lucky enough to have that happen, then you gotta be responsible … you gotta keep the dream alive,” she shared while promoting her upcoming rock album, Rockstar. “I’m not one to sit around doing nothing — I would never retire. I’ll hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage some day, and hopefully one I’ve written.”

“But anyhow, that’s how I hope to go because we don’t have much of a choice in that,” continued the star, whose Mountain Magic Christmas special received an Emmy nomination for outstanding television movie on July 12. “As long as I’m able to work, as long as my health is good and my husband is good, the only way I would ever slow down or stop would be for that reason.”

While the the 10-time Grammy winner may not ever be hanging up her guitar, she has parked her tour bus for good. “I think those days are pretty much behind me because I have so many things I’m involved in,” she told Bruce, noting that she will do special performances here and there. “You have to stay gone so long on a tour to make it be productive and prosperous. That’s a lot of time at my age! I ain’t got no years to waste!”

Besides her upcoming rock album (which is due out Nov. 17), Parton has a book titled Behind the Seams: My Life in Rhinestones coming Oct. 17. The pink tome will explore not only her celebrated music career, but also her passion for fashion and her iconic style.

Watch her interview with Greatest Hits Radio above.
