Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has unveiled a new song, with “Dialing In” serving as the theme to Apple TV+’s forthcoming series Smoke.
Released on Wednesday (May 28), and recorded with Sam Petts-Davies, the haunting track presents a dark and brooding atmosphere as Yorke’s trademark vocals warmly accompany a tender and eclectic musical bed.
The song also soundtracks the recently-released trailer for Smoke, which – according to a descriptor – follows Taron Egerton and Jurnee Smollett as they “attempt to get as close to the truth as possible—without getting burned.”

For diehard fans, “Dialing In” won’t be an entirely new experience, with its origins being found in Yorke’s unreleased track “Gawpers,” which had been performed during a run of European dates in 2019, but has since evolved before its 2025 release date.
Yorke announced the release of “Dialing In” by noting on social media that the track is “now available to stream on your least crap streaming service.” According to the song’s credits on Tidal, Yorke’s daughter Agnes is also featured as a backing vocalist.

“Working with Thom Yorke was as much an honour for me as working with Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese or Richard Price,” said Dennis Lehane, Smoke creator and executive producer. “I’ve somehow been blessed with collaborating with living legends who were also formative influences on my own creative life. Thom is definitely that.
“In addition, he took a basic concept I gave him and delivered a song that perfectly embodies the show and absolutely crushes.”
“Dialing In” is the latest release from Yorke this month, who also released the album Tall Tales, created alongside Mark Pritchard, on May 9.
“Mark sent me a large file of MP3s of ideas during lockdown,” Yorke explained of their long-distance collaboration. “There were so many great ones, I knew straight away that I had to drop what I was doing. It felt very much that I had not been anywhere like this before — both as soon as I put my headphones on and started trying to find the vocals, words and sounds, but also, as it progressed, watching Jonathan [Zawada] respond so freely and spontaneously with all his video and artwork ideas.
“It was mental, and I feel lucky to have been involved,” he added. “Tall Tales is very important to me. I hope people get it, and get to hear it!”

Northern Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap will no longer be appearing at Scotland’s TRNSMT festival this July following safety concerns from law enforcement.
The Belfast outfit had been scheduled to appear at the Glasgow festival this July, appearing on a lineup that also features 50 Cent, Gracie Abrams, Fontaines D.C., and more. However, local law enforcement had expressed concerns about the band’s appearance only last week, claiming that “there was no prior consultation with Police Scotland before acts were booked.”

“Officers have highlighted the potential reaction of such a large audience to this band would require a significant policing operation in order to support the delivery of a safe event,” a police spokesperson explained.

Now, it appears as though those concerns have resulted in tangible actions, with Kneecap taking to social media on Wednesday (May 28) to reveal they would no longer be performing “due to concerns expressed by the Police about safety at the event.”
“To the thousands of people who bought tickets, flights and hotels to see us play, we are sorry…it is out of our hands.” they wrote. “Glasgow has always been a huge city for us. We’ve played there many many times, with no issues – ever. Make of that what you will.”
Kneecap have since announced an additional performance at Glasgow’s O2 Academy for July 8 “to try to make up for” their removal. The trio has also been quick to set the record straight about the specifics of the lineup shift, clarifying online reporting by writing “Kneecap didn’t ‘pull out’ of TRNSMT – Kneecap were removed.”
News of Kneecap’s removal from TRNSMT comes after two German music festivals similarly revised their lineups, and last week’s reporting of member Mo Chara, born Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, being charged with a terrorism offense by London’s Metropolitan Police.
Ó hAnnaidh was investigated and subsequently charged for allegedly showing support for militant groups Hamas and Hezbollah in historic videos. Both are proscribed as terror groups according to U.K. law, and considered an offense under the Terrorism Act 2000.
He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on June 18, with the band issuing a statement to note they “deny this ‘offence’ and will vehemently defend ourselves.”

Former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Josh Klinghoffer will avoid prison time after striking and killing a man with his car in Los Angeles last year, according to a new report.
In an Alhambra, California, courtroom on Wednesday (May 28), Klinghoffer pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence after hitting the man, 47-year-old Israel Sanchez, with his 2022 GMC Yukon on March 18, 2024, according to Rolling Stone. Sanchez, who was in a crosswalk when he was hit, was pronounced dead at a hospital later that day.
As a result of the no jail plea deal, Klinghoffer was sentenced to one year of informal probation and 60 days of community labor, Rolling Stone reports. Additionally, he must complete a driver safety class and pay restitution in an amount to be determined at a later date.
After Klinghoffer entered his plea deal, a prosecutor read a statement that warned against distracted driving, according to Rolling Stone: “If you continue to drive while distracted, and as a result of your driving someone is killed, you can be charged with murder.” Klinghoffer then said that he understood.
Also during the hearing, Sanchez’s only daughter, Ashley Sanchez, read a victim impact statement in which she called him “an extraordinary grandfather” whose “absence has left an irreversible void in our lives,” according to Rolling Stone. In addressing Klinghoffer, she said her father’s death had caused her “deep and lasting trauma” and called it an “avoidable loss.”
Klinghoffer still faces a wrongful death lawsuit over the incident. In the complaint, filed by Ashley Sanchez, her attorneys wrote, “Video of the incident shows that defendant Josh Adam Klinghoffer made no braking or slowing motion until after he fatally struck Israel Sanchez, indicating that defendant was likely driving while distracted.” The woman’s lawyers also claimed to have video evidence showing that Klinghoffer was “using a device mere seconds before” he hit Sanchez. The trial in that case is slated to kick off on July 1, according to Rolling Stone.
Representatives for Klinghoffer and Ashley Sanchez did not immediately return requests for comment on Wednesday.
A touring guitarist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers in the late 2000s, Klinghoffer officially joined the band full-time in 2010 as a replacement for John Frusciante. After working on two studio albums with the group, he was fired in 2019 following Frusciante’s return. He has also served as a touring guitarist for Pearl Jam and released solo material under the name Pluralone.
Global success enjoyed by the likes of Central Cee, Charli xcx and Dua Lipa helped lift British music exports to a record high of £794 million ($1.72 billion) in 2024, according to new figures from the British Phonographic Industry (BPI).
The London-based trade body says last year’s total is the highest since it began analyzing labels’ overseas income in 2000, and that it’s more than triple the £243 million ($328 million) from 2013. The result also means that the U.K. remains the world’s second biggest exporter of music, making up around 8% to 9% of global streams, says the BPI.
Driving last year’s stats was a combination of established, globally successful British artists and a new generation of homegrown talent making waves on the world stage. In total, around 600 artists accumulated more than 100 million global streams throughout 2024, including high-charting releases from Central Cee, Charli xcx and Dua Lipa, alongside platinum singles for Myles Smith (“Stargazing”) and Good Neighbours (“Home”).

Data by Luminate shows that the list of top revenue-generating artists also includes contemporary himakers Adele, Arctic Monkeys, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles and Sam Smith, as well as icons who first rose to prominence in the 1970s, such as Queen and Elton John.
Consumption of British music increased in all but one of the main global regions in 2024, says BPI. This trend was led by an incrase of 29% in the Middle East and 12% in Africa. North America and Europe remained the biggest regions for export.
The BPI attributes many of these major gains to British record labels’ long-term investment in new talent and established acts. The organization reports that between 2020-2024, label businesses invested more than £2 billion ($2.7 billion) in artist A&R and marketing.
The rate of growth is declining, however. The BPI reports that income from the sales and streams of British music overseas increased by just 1.9% in 2024, compared to 7.6% in 2023 and 20% in 2022. In previous years, the consumption of British music globally was bolstered by extensive album and touring campaigns from superstars including Styles and Lewis Capaldi. Last year, however, no British artists ranked among the 20 most-streamed artists globally, according to the IFPI.
BPI chief executive Dr Jo Twist said in a statement: “It’s brilliant to see British artists, backed by their labels, continue to shine on the world stage, including a new generation of talent such as Charli XCX, Lola Young, and Myles Smith, among others. Their emergence shows we are on the cusp of future success.”
In her statement, Twist also stressed the importance of raising awareness around the government’s potential future approach to generative artificial intelligence training, as well as highlighting the need for further conversation around music education in the U.K.
Twist continued: “If we are to realise this potential in an increasingly competitive global market and keep British music a headline act, we need the right environment where the industry comes together to deliver growth to the UK. We have a Government that values not just the cultural power of British music but also the foundations of its success: creative arts education, labels that are supported and encouraged to invest in talent, successful programmes like the Music Export Growth Scheme, and a gold standard copyright framework that safeguards creativity and rewards human artistry.”

Following the announcement that the model had sold her Rhode skincare company to e.l.f. Beauty for an eye-popping $1 billion on Wednesday (May 23), the pop star took to social media to champion his business-savvy wife in a sweet but subtle way.
On Instagram, Justin posted a glamorous photo of Hailey rocking a powerful white suit, as well as a screenshot of her own caption announcing the news on the platform. “When I launched @rhode in 2022, I always had big dreams for the company, and the most important thing to me is to keep bringing rhode to more spaces, places, and faces globally,” the mogul wrote on her page. “So today I am so incredibly excited and proud to announce that we are partnering with e.l.f. Beauty … a like-minded disruptor with a vision to be a different kind of company that believes in big ideas and innovation in the same way that I do.”

The businesswoman didn’t share the billion-dollar price tag of her sale in her post, but the 10-digit figure was reported by Wall Street Journal and Forbes. The latter publication breaks down the deal as being “$600 million in cash, $200 million worth of e.l.f. Beauty stock and a potential $200 million in future payouts based on the company’s growth over the next three years.”
The sale comes just three years after Hailey first launched Rhode, a venture for which Justin has been at her side every step of the way. The musician — who married Hailey in 2018 — has appeared with her at several events for the company, and in February, he shared photos and wrote on Instagram, “Congrats baby on your beautiful @rhode pop up.”
Hailey’s major money move also comes shortly after she appeared on the cover of Vogue, getting candid in the accompanying interview about her life — both as a woman in the public eye and as a new mom to son Jack Blues, whom she welcomed with Justin in August. After leading Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart since last January, Bad Bunny’s “DTMF” cracks the No. 1 slot on the Latin Airplay chart (dated May 31). It’s the third song from Debí Tirar Más Fotos, his sixth solo album, to hit the top of the overall Latin radio ranking.
“DTMF” advances 2-1 in its 13th week on the Latin Airplay chart, after a 31% gain in audience impressions, to 8.8 million, earned in United States during the May 16-22 tracking week, according to Luminate.

“DTMF” marks the third track from the album Debí Tirar Más Fotos to hit No. 1 on the tally, after “El Clúb” and “Baile Inolvidable” each charted at the summit for two weeks between February and March.

Rauw Alejandro & Luis Angel ‘El Flaco’ Score Big Wins: Elsewhere on the Latin charts, Rauw Alejandro and Luis Angel ‘El Flaco’ score additional gains.
Rauw Alejandro returns to the summit on the Latin Pop Airplay chart almost a year after “Touching The Sky” ruled for one week (August 2024). His recent single, “Carita Linda” jumps 3-1 in its sixth week with 4.15 million in audience impressions, up 19%, earned during the same period. The song becomes the Puerto Rican’s seventh ruler, and third unaccompanied by any other act.
Meanwhile, Luis Angel ‘El Flaco’ scores a second champ on the Regional Mexican Airplay chart with “Vuelve a Mi.” The song, which climbs 5-1, becomes the airplay Greatest Gainer of the week after a 44% boost in impressions, to 6.7 million.
“Vuelve a Mi” also takes Luis Angel to his third top on the overall Latin Airplay chart, where it rallies 14-4 in its 11th recap.
