Keke Palmer Takes a Jab at Darius Jackson in Usher’s ‘Boyfriend’ Music Video: Watch

Usher and Keke Palmer can’t stop stirring the pot. After teasing the collaboration 24 hours ago, the two stars have debuted the music video for the R&B legend’s new song “Boyfriend,” following some drama with the actress’ alleged ex-boyfriend, Darius Jackson.

The Wednesday (Aug. 16) visual stars a glowing Palmer having a night out with her friends and hanging with Usher, who taunts in the song’s lyrics: “Somebody said that your boyfriend is looking for me, that’s cool/ He should know I’m pretty easy to find/ Just look for me wherever he sees you.”

Midway through, the video pauses to show the Nope star and her gal pals listening to Usher’s 2001 hit “U Remind Me” in an elevator, during which she exclaims, “I love this song… do you remember where you were when you first heard this?”

After a suave dance break in a casino led by Palmer, who lights up onscreen, the video cuts to her waking up in bed to answer a FaceTime call from (guess who?) Usher. That’s where she drops in the biggest diss toward Jackson: “S–t, I’m so tired… I am a mother, after all,” she says, winking at the camera.

The cheeky line pokes fun at Jackson, with whom Palmer shares a six-month-old son. Last month, Jackson took to Twitter to call out Palmer for a sheer outfit she wore to Usher’s Las Vegas concert, lamenting: “We live in a generation where a man of the family doesn’t want the wife & mother to his kids to showcase booty cheeks to please others & he gets told how much of a hater he is. This is my family & my representation. I have standards & morals to what I believe. I rest my case.”

Reposting a clip of Usher dancing with a swooning Palmer during the show, Jackson also wrote in a now-deleted tweet: “It’s the outfit tho.. you a mom.”

Neither Palmer nor Jackson have commented on the status of their relationship since. Regardless, Palmer seems to be living her best life, taking to Instagram following the music video’s release to thank Usher for “encouraging me and seeing me as the entertainer I am.”

“I know I’m a gUrL but when I watched your videos, I never wanted to be the girl in them, I wanted to be YOU,” she added in her post. “Thank you for making a dream come true.”

Kid Cudi Strips Down For Steamy, Shirtless Calvin Klein Campaign: See the Pics

Whether it’s day or night, nothing gets between Kid Cudi and his Calvins. On Tuesday (Aug. 15), the Billboard Hot 100-topping rapper debuted his steamy new Calvin Klein campaign on Instagram.

“Vibes in my Calvins,” Cudi captioned a promotional clip of him modeling various Calvin Klein ensembles — from a matching-jeans set with a blond wig to black boxer briefs inside of a pool. Soundtracked by T. Rex’s “Cosmic Dancer,” the video makes sure to showcase a healthy dose of shirtless shots; the “Day’N’Nite” rapper flaunts his ripped abs and biceps both underwater and inside a photo studio.

In two subsequent posts, Cudi gushed about the opportunity to participate in a Calvin Klein campaign as he posed in front of a billboard promoting the photoshoot. “I always walked past this billboard and dreamed of being up there one day. This is unreal,” he wrote. “I remember I mentioned I realllly wanted this billboard at the shoot and they told me, ‘we’ll see.’ Thank u @calvinklein for makin another dream of mine come true.”

American fashion house Calvin Klein also shared a series of photos on their official Instagram page. “@kidcudi indulges in a flash of personalities,” they captioned one post. In the caption for their post of the same video clip, they wrote, “Dance through day and night. @kidcudi is a creative force at play.” Other celebrities tapped for the latest Calvin Klein campaign include Euphoria star Alexa Demie, The Idol star and BLACKPINK member Jennie Ruby Jane, BTS powerhouse Jung Kook and American model Kendall Jenner.

Kid Cudi has earned 27 entries on the Billboard Hot 100, including the top ten hits “Day’N’Nite” (No. 3) and “The Scotts” (No. 1, with Travis Scott). On the Billboard 200, the Grammy winner has scored five top ten titles from nine overall chart entries, including 2013’s Indicud and 2020’s Man On The Moon III: The Chosen One (both No. 2).

“Honoring the day you blessed the Earth with your presence. Forever more,” London wrote, adding “I love you” and a blue heart emoji to the end of her message.

Hussle died on March 31, 2019 after being fatally shot by Eric Holder Jr. following an altercation that took place outside of the rapper’s store in Los Angeles. In February, Holder Jr. was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison after being convicted of murdering the rapper. Hussle is survived by his and London’s six-year-old son Kross, born in 2016.

The actress spoke about what it has been like living without Nipsey in a January appearance on People‘s Every Day podcast, stating that she doesn’t, “want to give a misconception that I’m at peace and I’m walking around on a cloud.” She continued, “I have to wake up with the intention of this every day because there are days I don’t want to, and I’m like angry about it. And that’s what healing is. It is up and down, side to side, all over the place. You know what I mean? And with each new level, there’s something else.”

Doja Cat Opens Up About Being in a ‘Committed’ Relationship and Plans to Pause Music to Pursue Acting

Doja Cat has love in her heart and Hollywood on her mind. In the 27-year-old superstar’s new Harper’s Bazaar cover story — one of three “Icons” issues by the publication this month — she opened up about her transition from being a “serial dater” to falling in love with her partner and shared plans to pause her music career someday in order to pursue acting.

“I love love,” confessed Doja, who’s reportedly dating comedian and Twitch streamer J. Cyrus.

“I’m possibly a serial dater,” she continued. “I definitely have had that in me a little bit. But right now I’m in a different place in my life where I am very committed and very much in love in a different way than before. I think I’ve evolved… I feel like a woman who is coming into her own.”

The “Kiss Me More” artist, who’s threatened to quit music altogether multiple times in the past, went on to share her dreams of taking a break from her current occupation to dip her toes into acting — and possibly stand-up comedy. “[Stand-up] is something I’ve definitely considered,” she told the publication. “I actually went onstage recently with Craig Robinson. He’ll get on a piano and just play songs, but he’ll do it in his own Craig Robinson, funny-ass way.”

“I would love to do movies that I believe in,” Doja continued. “I would have to stop the music for a minute. But I would be down to immerse myself in acting for a certain period of time. I love comedies and action films. I want to learn martial arts and be in a film like John Wick.”

Doja is fresh off the release of her second single of 2023, “Paint The Town Red.” The track debuted at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is expected to appear on the star’s upcoming fourth, as-yet-untitled album, along with June’s “Attention.”

She also touched on what’s to come with her next musical project for the Harper’s Bazaar “Icons” trilogy, which also featured cover stars Paul Mescal and Kendall Jenner. “This new album is more introspective, but I’m not leaning so hard into that to where it becomes boring,” Doja revealed.

“So I want to give stories and bops. It’s a nice mixture of both,” she added. “I think this project is a really fun canvas for me to play with my rap skills and talk about what’s going on in my life. But I’m not abandoning who I was and what I know about pop and singing and that aspect of music.”

BLACKPINK Will Wrap Born Pink World Tour With Two Shows in Seoul

After kicking off their Born Pink World Tour last October, K-pop superstars BLACKPINK are set to conclude their worldwide trek with two new shows in Seoul, South Korea. The girl group announced the new gigs, dubbed the tour’s “finale,” on their Instagram page on Wednesday (Aug. 16).

Through a meticulously curated series of posts that form a larger grid on their page, BLACKPINK shared the exciting news to their 52.7 million Insta followers. On September 16 and 17, the group will play the final two shows of their tour at an as-yet-unannounced venue. The September 17 show will be streamed online via WeVerse; in-person tickets will be available via Interpark, and online streaming tickets will be sold through the Weverse shop.

The upcoming Seoul concerts will bring their Born Pink World Tour to a staggering total of 66 shows. Launched in support of their Billboard 200-topping Born Pink, the tour has visited a litany of cities across North America, Europe, Asia, and Oceania. The group’s last stop before resting up for the two-night finale is at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Aug. 26.

Last week, BLACKPINK celebrated their seven-year anniversary with tributes on their personal Instagram pages, as well as events across the United States and Asia. Their anniversary coincided with a pair of shows at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ, on August 11 and 12.

Since their debut, BLACKPINK has stormed the Billboard charts. In addition to topping the Billboard 200 with Born Pink, BLACKPINK has also climbed as high as No. 2 with the release of The Album, their debut full-length studio album. Over on the Billboard Hot 100, they have earned nine entries, including “Pink Venom” (No. 22), “How You Like That” (No. 33),” the Selena Gomez-assisted “Ice Cream” (No. 13), and a collaboration with Lady Gaga entitled “Sour Candy” (No. 33).

Travis Scott Floods the Zone with YouTube Release of Full ‘Circus Maximus’ Movie, 4 ‘Utopia’ Music Videos

Travis Scott‘s super-sized roll-out of his Utopia album continued on Tuesday (Aug. 15) with the free YouTube posting of his 75-minute Circus Maximus film, as well as four Utopia music videos.

The trippy film — which played in select theaters on the album’s July 28th release date — opens with a scene in which Scott dreams he is being enveloped by a gigantic sea creature before setting off on a quest across a desolate landscape that brings him to a lavish mansion where he meets up with producer Rick Rubin.

Seen through a keyhole, their interaction initially finds Rubin asking probing questions (“is the house half empty, or completely empty?,” “how are the kids?,” “are you still crying?,” “how about the drugs, are they still working, or are you just tired of them?”) as an exasperated Scott tries to gather his thoughts.

What unfolds over the next hour-plus is a head-spinning film — written by Scot and co-directed by the rapper, Andrew Dosunmu and Kahlil Joseph — that incorporates all 19 tracks from the feature-filled album in a series of colorful vignettes. It bounces from Scott rapping “Hyaena” in an African village, to the MC participating in a Catalan-style human tower build in “Sirens,” all intercut with bits of the Rubin interview.

Elsewhere, there is a futuristic taxi chase set to the Beyoncé-assisted “Delresto (Echoes),” a strobing underground dance party for “Modern Jam” and some fresh footage cued to “Hyaena” and a remix of “Jam” in which Scott stands in front of a massive wall of speakers in Rome’s Circus Maximus, which bleeds into an extended run of footage from the recent album release show in the ancient venue that drew 60,000 fans and a surprise Kanye West cameo.

The break-out videos for “Sirens,” “Modern Jam,” “Hyaena” and “Delresto (Echoes)” are all versions of the clips that appear in the Maximus movie. Utopia has ruled the Billboard 200 albums chart for two weeks in a row, earning 147,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. for the week ending Aug. 10, down 70%, according to Luminate, from its debut the week before with 496,000 units earned.

David Guetta, Calvin Harris & More: 20 Years of Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay Chart

“The chart will significantly elevate the profile of dance music at radio.”

With the survey dated Aug. 16, 2003, Billboard began the Dance/Mix Show Airplay ranking, with then-dance radio chart manager Ricardo Companioni touting its value to the genre. Billboard also described dance as “an emerging radio format in major U.S. markets” at the time.

Twenty years later, the chart continues to reflect the biggest dance hits on radio each week.

When the list premiered (in Billboard’s pages for the first time in the Oct. 25, 2003, issue), it tracked airplay on eight stations: WKTU New York, KDLD Los Angeles, KPTI San Francisco, KKDL Dallas, WQSX Boston, WPYM Miami, KNRJ Phoenix and KCJZ San Antonio, Texas. (Today, only WKTU remains a reporter.)

In November 2011, the chart was made over from its original Hot Dance Radio Airplay name to Dance/Mix Show Airplay, with its panel of core 24/7 dance stations augmented with mix show hours on pop stations, which now comprise around 80 reporters. Three years later, the chart expanded from 25 spots to its current 40-position depth. (Stations’ airplay is tracked by Mediabase and provided to Billboard by Luminate.)

Over its 20-year archives, the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart has built up a history of achievements by some of the most key names in the genre.

Below is a look at 20 impressive feats achieved on Dance/Mix Show Airplay, from the acts with the most No. 1s to the longest-leading hit and more, from the inaugural chart, dated Aug. 16, 2003, through the latest, Aug. 19, 2023-dated tally.

(Notably, Aug. 16 doubles as the birthday of one of the chart’s most successful performers: Madonna.)

Listen to Hootie & the Blowfish’s Jim ‘Soni’ Sonefeld & Darius Rucker Reimagine Sonefeld’s ‘Sitting in the Green Grass’

On the 15th-anniversary deluxe edition of Snowman Melting, Jim “Soni” Sonefeld brought in a very special guest to reimagine the album’s “Sitting in the Green Grass”: his Hootie & the Blowfish bandmate Darius Rucker.

The new version, which premieres below, marks the first time any members of the band have recorded new music together since Hootie & the Blowfish’s 2019 album, Imperfect Circle, and is the first time two members have worked together on music outside of the official band.

The stripped-down song is a lovely testament to escaping from the city and taking time out to breathe in nature as the two band members trade verses. Tiffany Turner, wife of the song’s producer Lee J. Turner, provides backing vocals.

“This [song] seemed almost to be written for [Darius],” Sonefeld told Billboard. “I thought the acoustic, sort of Americana style would suit him well, and he absolutely knocked it out of the park, in my opinion.”

Furthermore, “I thought ‘Sitting in the Green Grass’ was a nice message that represented a little bit of what Darius has gone through, his double career in rock music and country music, having to balance the busyness of the machine that is the music business with trying to find peace in your life as well,” Sonefeld separately said in a statement.

“Friendships definitely change through decades. Darius and I don’t see each other as much,” he continued. “When you have kids and partners and distance, it’s hard to be the same people you were driving around in a van in the early ’90s. But we’re still family, we’ve been able to watch our kids grow up and see them onto their journeys. And so ‘Sitting in the Green Grass’ I thought was a good fit for Darius. We’re both in a place where our kids are leaving the house, in college or done. It’s not as if we’re going out to pasture, but it is a big moment of time, this season in our lives.”

While the 15th anniversary of Snowman Melting arrives this year, next year marks a big anniversary too: the 30th anniversary of Hootie & the Blowfish’s Cracked Rear View, which catapulted the band into superstardom and has sold more than 21 million copies in the U.S. As to how the band will commemorate, Sonefeld says it’s too soon to tell. “We’ve been talking about how we might approach a tour/recording opportunity as a band,” he says, “But we haven’t come to any conclusions about supporting that anniversary with either a tour, or new music, or both.”

For now, the band’s only plan is to support its Hootie & the Blowfish Foundation with its annual fundraiser, which will take place in the spring.

Snowman Melting, originally released in 2008, was produced and co-written by Francis Dunnery and captured a transitional time for Sonefeld. “Snowman Melting comes out of a time in my life when I was trying to figure out who I was,” Sonefeld said. “A period where a guy who was old enough to know better was still learning life lessons. My life was changing so rapidly – separation, divorce, the band’s last tour and indefinite dormancy for Hootie & the Blowfish. And then a remarriage and a quickly enlarged family. The songs paint a clear picture of what my life looked like in 2006-2008. I can always look back and clearly see the pain, the joy, the transition.

The deluxe edition, out Sept. 29 via Vere Music, also includes a new rendition of “No Reason” with Edwin McCain.

The re-release comes after Sonefeld published his memoir last year, Swimming With the Blowfish: Hootie, Healing and One Hell of a Ride, and a solo EP, Remember Tomorrow.

The Killers Apologize For Bringing Russian Fan On Stage in Georgia: ‘We Did Not Mean to Upset Anyone’

Brandon Flowers learned a lesson in diplomacy on Tuesday night (Aug. 15) during The Killers‘ show at the Black Sea Arena in Batumi, Georgia. In a portion of the show when the band typically invite a fan up to play drums on the song “For Reasons Unknown,” Flowers asked the crowd to weigh in on that night’s special guest.

“We don’t know the etiquette of this land but this guy’s a Russian,” he told the audience in video posted by fans. “You OK with a Russian coming up here?” As it turns out, they were not. The question drew loud boos from the crowd in the country that came out from under the yoke of Russian rule in 1991 following the fall of the Soviet Union. Russia, however, still occupies around 20 percent of Georgia following a 2008 invasion.

According to local reports, a portion of the audience walked out in protest, further incensed by Flowers’ attempt at detente after the song ended. Asking the agitated audience if they were willing to let borders define them. “You can’t recognize that someone’s your brother? He’s not your brother? We all separate on the border of our countries?,” he said as the boos kept coming. “So I’m not your brother? Am I not your brother being from America? Am I your brother or no? I’m not your brother?”

Walking away from the mic in seeming exasperation, Flowers threw his head back and added, “One of the things we appreciate about being in this band is it brings people together. And tonight I want to celebrate that we’re here together. And I don’t want it to turn ugly. And I see you as my brothers and my sisters. “

Hours after the show, the band issued an apology, assuring their Georgian fans that they did not intend to cause an international incident more than a year-and-a-half into Russia’s devastating unprovoked war against Ukraine. “Good people of Georgia, it was never our intention to offend anyone! We have a longstanding tradition of inviting people to play drums and it seemed from the stage that the initial response from the crowd indicated that they were okay with tonight’s audience participation member coming onstage with us,” they wrote.

It continued, “We recognize that a comment, meant to suggest that all of The Killers’ audience and fans are ‘brothers and sisters,’ could be misconstrued. We did not mean to upset anyone and we apologize. We stand with you and hope to return soon.” The Killers are currently on tour in support of their 2021 album Pressure Machine. Their next scheduled show is in Bratislava, Slovakia on Friday (Aug. 18), after which they will head to England for the Reading and Leeds festivals, before flying back to the U.S. in September for a series of festival headlining gigs at Bourbon & Beyond, Sea.Hear.Now and Life is Beautiful.
