The animal rights organization released an open letter addressed to the producer, written by PETA’s Senior VP Lisa Lange. “When you were made men’s creative director of Louis Vuitton, we hoped animals would get lucky and that you would choose vegan fabrics, which are the preference of today’s ethical and environmentally conscious consumers,” the letter reads, according to TMZ. “But we aren’t happy to note your newest design, the ‘Millionaire’ Speedy bag, which is crafted from crocodile skin, because when it comes to animals being used for fashion, it isn’t beautiful—it’s abuse.”

The letter continued, “A PETA Asia investigation found workers at LVMH’s suppliers cutting live crocodiles’ necks open and ramming metal rods down their spines while they were still conscious. Another investigation revealed that workers at facilities supplying LVMH struck pythons repeatedly on the head, suspending them in the air, inflating their bodies with water, and disemboweling them — even as they moved about.”

Lange encouraged Williams to visit a crocodile factory to witness the horror himself. “You’d want to bring along nose plugs and high boots to wade through fetid, waste-filled water,” the letter reads. “If we go to an indoor tank, also bring a flashlight, because you won’t see daylight. There are no blurred lines here. Killing wildlife for a bag isn’t cool—it’s cold. Are you up for this trip?”

Billboard has reached out to PETA and Pharrell’s team for comment, but have not received a response at the time of publication.

Grateful Dead Ties Elvis Presley & Frank Sinatra for Most Top 40 Albums Ever on Billboard 200 Chart

Grateful Dead meets Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra in the Billboard record books, as the band ties the latter two legends for the most career top 40-charting albums on the Billboard 200 in the 67-year history of the survey.

The band achieves its 58th top 40 album with its latest live archival release, Dave’s Picks, Volume 48: Pauley Pavilion, UCLA, Los Angeles, CA, 11/20/71, as the set debuts at No. 33 on the Billboard 200 dated Nov. 11. The three-CD album captures a previously unreleased show recorded at the university’s Pauley Pavilion on Nov. 20, 1971. The collection also includes bonus live material recorded at an Oct. 24, 1970, concert at the Kiel Opera House in St. Louis.

Dave’s Picks is Grateful Dead’s continuing live archival release series, named for the group’s archivist, David Lemieux, that has been going strong since its first release in 2012. Releases in the series are issued exclusively on CD and in limited quantities. Notably, 40 of Grateful Dead’s 58 top 40-charting albums are from the Dave’s Picks series.

Here’s a recap of the acts with the most top 40-charting albums on the Billboard 200 since the list began publishing on a regular, weekly basis in March of 1956:

58, Grateful Dead
58, Elvis Presley
58, Frank Sinatra
54, Barbra Streisand
51, Bob Dylan
48, The Rolling Stones

Dave’s Picks, Volume 48 debuts on the Billboard 200 with 19,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 2, according to data tracking firm Luminate. All of that sum was driven by traditional album sales.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. Timothée Chalamet Is an Unfazed New Yorker in New ‘SNL’ Promo

In the one-minute promo released on Wednesday (Nov. 8), Chalamet walks around the SNL studio with headphones on, admiring “iconic parts” of the set including, the Weekend Update set, the clock and under the bleachers where the cue cards are written.

As the actor looks around on the stage where he’ll perform his monologue, Mikey Day and Sarah Sherman attempt to warn him to get out of the studio, as its being fumigated and the air is “poison.” However, Chalamet quickly replies, “It’s fine, I grew up in New York. I’m immune.”

The Wonka star is then seen dancing around the stage as the infected air fills his lungs. Chalamet is no stranger to SNL, having hosted the Dec. 12, 2020 episode. He’ll be joined by Boygenius  — the supergroup helmed by Phoebe BridgersLucy Dacus and Julien Baker — who will appear as musical guest, just weeks after the release of new four-track EP The Rest. Bridgers previously served as musical guest for her solo work, in April 2021, and memorably destroyed her guitar on stage in Studio 8H.

Watch Chalamet in the SNL promo below. Saturday Night Live airs on Saturdays at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. For those without cable, the broadcast streams on Peacock, which you can sign up for at the link here.

The entire Streaming Songs list’s top nine is made up of songs from Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version), with “Is It Over Now?” followed by “Now That We Don’t Talk (Taylor’s Version) [From the Vault]” at No. 2 with 28.2 million streams. With nine new top 10s, Swift pads her standing as the act with the second-most top 10s in chart history, with 48. Drake leads with 96.

As previously reported, “Is It Over Now?” reigns on the multi-metric Billboard Hot 100, while 1989 (Taylor’s Version) crowns the Billboard 200.

The 2024 Met Gala Theme Has Been Announced

The first Monday in May is one of the biggest fashion events of the year, and Vogue revealed on Wednesday (Nov. 8) the theme for the 2024 Met Gala.

The theme, Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, is set to feature 250 items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, according to an Instagram post announcing the theme. “From a 17th century English Elizabethan-era bodice and Christian Dior’s famous Junon and Venus ballgowns, to 21st century acquisitions by designers including Phillip Lim, Stella McCartney, and Conner Ives, the core exhibit will span 400 years of history,” the caption reads. See the full post here.

The Costume Institute Benefit, also known as the Met Gala, will take place on May 6, 2024, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and the corresponding exhibition is set to launch in the museum on May 10. The event’s celebrity co-chairs have yet to be announced.

The 2023 theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which showcased more than 150 original looks designed by Lagerfeld, who died at age 85 in 2019, delving into the former Chanel creative director’s expansive seven-decade career. Many of his original sketches also appeared alongside the objects on display. Penélope Cruz, Dua Lipa, Roger Federer and Michaela Coel were the event’s co-chairs alongside Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has led the event since 1995.

SCANDAL, Non & Nishina Light Up Yaon Stage for Billboard Japan Women in Music Vol.1 Concert

Nishina, SCANDAL and Non graced the stage at the historic Hibiya Open-Air Concert Hall in Tokyo on Nov. 3 for Billboard Japan’s Women In Music Vol.1 event, entertaining fans under the clear autumn sky with songs and performances bursting with individuality.

This concert was the first with multiple headliners on the bill organized as part of the WIM initiative in Japan, which launched last year to honor artists, producers and executives who have made significant contributions to music and inspired other women through their work, as Billboard has done in the U.S. since 2007.

The Open-Air Concert Hall in Hibiya Park, or “Yaon” as music lovers refer to it, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. November 3rd being a national holiday, a large number of fans of all genders and generations gathered at the event. The spirit of the day’s festivities was expressed in the music being played before the concert began, with songs by Western female artists such as Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” Shania Twain’s “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!,” and Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” warming up the Yaon crowd.

After the master of ceremonies for the evening, Maki Fukuda and Kanade of the comedy trio 3 Ji no Heroine, announced the start of the event, Nishina kicked off the show. Appearing onstage to warm applause, the rising 25-year-old singer-songwriter and her band broke into noise to perform “Slow Motion.” The leisurely, yet increasingly intense rendition was a fitting opener for her six-song set, gradually warming up the audience with her exuberance.

Nishina

“This is my first time playing at Yaon so I’ve been looking so forward to this,” Nishina told the crowd before moving on to “Tokyo Marble.” Bubble gun in hand, she blew soap bubbles into the audience while hopping from one end of the stage to the other, clearly enjoying her time on the historic stage to her heart’s content.

During “Kedamono no Friends,” the singer twirled her fake tail around in her hand, loosely dancing and singing as the audience clapped with the beat. There was a moment when she almost tripped and fell because she was moving around so much onstage. Laughing, she exclaimed, “Did you see that? What an amazing recovery!” Making the audience feel at ease through such exchanges, she went on to perform “Sugar Spot” for the first time live. By the time she performed “Heavy Smoke,” dusk had fallen over the outdoor venue and her low, mumbly vocals lingered in the cool autumn air. Nishina closed her set with a heartfelt performance of her poignant ballad “seiran yuei,” making good on her weighty responsibility of opening the first-ever WIM event.

During the stage change, Fukuda and Kanade appeared onstage and explained the purpose of the event. “We’d like everyone to feel the power of women and diverse possibilities through these live performances that are uniquely individual,” they said. “The concept of this project is to act towards eliminating gender inequalities in various industries including music, and make the world a place where people of all genders can be their best selves.” The two comedians went to share that more people are bringing their children backstage these days in their field, and new values are becoming more common.

At this point, Nishina came back onstage to join the two emcees and commented, “It’s now pitch dark, but we started while the sun was still out. I was thinking how beautiful it was and had a really lovely time.” When asked if she is conscious of her gender when writing songs, she replied, “I don’t think too much about it, but I try to respect that ‘you are you’ in terms of taking care of myself and respecting others.”

Billboard Japan Women in Music concert

Non

The next artist on the roster was Non, whose latest album PURSUE was named to reflect the kind of woman she looks up to: someone who pursues what she wants and sees it through to the end. Appearing onstage with her backing band dressed in bright red, the multi-hyphenate artist picked up her trademark red Telecaster guitar and opened with “Beautiful Stars,” her collaborative project with J-pop rock band ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION.

“I’m so excited because I’m sandwiched between two insanely cool acts, Nishina and SCANDAL,” she noted before performing her next song, “Oh! Oh! Oh!” as the crowd sang along. She then told everyone to “take a seat because this next one’s mellow” and as the intro to “Kouya ni tatsu” (“Standing in the Wilderness”) began to play, the crowd stirred and broke out into loud applause. Fans listened enraptured by Non’s arresting performance of this profound ballad.

Before closing her compact but satisfying set with her warm, mid-tempo number “Azayaka na hibi” (“Vivid Days”), she addressed the Yaon crowd again. “It’s my first time performing in an event like this as part of three acts on the bill,” she said. “I think it’s wonderful that we can all enjoy music together. My heart’s so full. I wish you all many wonderful days today, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and beyond.”

When invited back onstage by Fukuda and Kanade for a chat after her segment, Non emphasized again how much she had been looking forward to this day. “I was so happy to be able to play with my band today, because I was disappointed when our show here with Reichi ‘Chabo’ Nakaido’s band was cancelled due to a typhoon,” she said.

SCANDAL

Closing out the event was SCANDAL, a veteran all-female band of 17 years. The four members were greeted with loud cheers after it was announced that the group had been certified by the Guinness World Records in August as the “longest running rock band with the same musicians (female).” Clad in black, the members opened their set with the band’s uplifting latest single, “Highlight no naka de bokura zutto.”

As searchlights flashed across the venue, the band went on to perform one of its representative numbers, “Shunkan Sentimental,” with the audience spontaneously shouting as soon as the intro began. The four women’s solid performance engulfed the historic venue in a frenzy of excitement.

The veteran band continued to deliver a tight set covering highlights from its illustrious catalog. “I’m having so much fun now that I’m in my thirties and playing in SCANDAL,” said guitarist/vocalist HARUNA to thunderous applause. “I hope you can feel the four of us standing on stage and connecting our sounds together, like light.”

The women performed “Sisters” as a refreshing shout-out to the evening’s theme, then finished their set with their concert anthem “SCANDAL BABY,” gleefully singing in unison. During the second verse, lead guitarist MAMI and bassist TOMOMI huddled close to HARUNA, making eye contact with drummer RINA as they tore through the fan favorite to close out the event on a high note.

During the after-show chat, RINA said, “Now that events like this are taking place, I think we have more opportunities to understand one another. Our hope is that we can all live together while respecting what each of us values. I hope we can enjoy our lives together without giving up anything.” When asked about their thoughts on continuing to perform as a “girl band,” HARUNA replied, “We feel that it’s important for us four members to be considerate of each other and to enjoy the changes as we get older, so we hope to never forget that and enjoy our time together.”

Nishina and Non were also invited to share their impressions of the event, and the former commented, “I had a great time performing side by side with very cool female musicians from different genres,” while the latter shared, “I really enjoyed being here today, listening to Nishina and SCANDAL’s live performances thinking they were so cool and had a good time performing, too!”

The celebration of women will continue as Billboard Japan announced its Women In Music Vol. 2 event set for Feb. 8, 2024, at Tokyo Dome City Hall. The next concert will feature the powerful voices of singer-songwriters Reo Ieiri and Miliyah Kato collaborating with an orchestra.

Ado’s ‘Show’ Holds at No. 1 for Sixth Week on Japan Hot 100

Ado’s “Show” logs its sixth week atop the Billboard Japan Hot 100, dated Nov. 8, tallying the week ending Nov. 5.

The enigmatic singer has hit No. 1 on the Japan Hot 100 with two other songs in the past: first with her breakout smash “Usseewa” (one week) then with “New Genesis” as Uta from One Piece Film Red (six weeks). If “Show” extends its stay at the top of the tally for another week, the “Kura Kura” songstress will break her own personal record for total weeks at No. 1.

The theme of USJ’s Halloween event currently rules streaming, downloads and video views, while also performing well in radio airplay (No. 3) and karaoke (No. 6). While figures for downloads and streams have increased, the song shows strong growth in radio and karaoke, with the former gaining 28 percent and the latter 24 percent more points than the week before. The spooky dance number holds at No. 1 for the third consecutive week on Billboard Japan’s TikTok Weekly Top 20 and for the fourth straight week on the Top User Generated Songs lists, meaning the song has become this year’s Halloween anthem for many users of social media.

At No. 2 this week is YOASOBI’s “Idol.” The monster hit is now in its 30th week on the Japan Hot 100 and currently at No. 2 for streaming, No. 13 for downloads, No. 3 for video, No. 2 for karaoke, and No. 36 for radio. The number of downloads rose again from 3,895 units to 4,420 units this week, indicating the lasting popularity of the catchy Oshi no Ko opener and record-holder for most weeks at No. 1 on the Japan Hot 100 (21 weeks).

YOASOBI also made headlines in September when the duo’s breakout mega-hit “Yoru ni kakeru” (“Into the Night”) became the first song in Japan to surpass one billion cumulative streams. “Idol” is quickly on its way to reach that milestone as well, sailing past 500 million cumulative streams in 30 weeks, the fastest to do so in the country’s history. It took “Yoru ni kakeru” 63 weeks to reach half a billion streams.

And following at No. 3 this week is YOASOBI’s “The Brave.” Weekly downloads for the Frieren opener increased slightly from 9,224 units to 9,964 units, while karaoke, video, and radio increased 30 percent, 1 percent, and 12 percent, respectively, to lift the pair’s latest hit 5-3 on the Japan Hot 100.

Debuts in the top 10 this week are LE SSERAFIM’s “Perfect Night” at No. 7 and NiziU’s “HEARTRIS” at No. 10. The former is at No. 14 for downloads with 3,682 units and No. 7 for streaming with 5,888,887 streams. The latter, the South Korean debut track for the nine-member girl group, is at No. 6 for downloads (5,882 units) and No. 30 for streaming (2,955,278 streams).

The act with most songs on the Japan Hot 100 this week is Mrs. GREEN APPLE. The pop-rock band charts 10 songs on the list, led by “Que Sera Sera” at No. 16 and “Magic” at No. 19.

The Billboard Japan Hot 100 combines physical and digital sales, audio streams, radio airplay, video views and karaoke data.

Jason Kelce Tries to Get Travis Kelce to Reveal if He’s Joining Taylor Swift on Eras Tour

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is set to head down to South America this month, and Travis Kelce is staying coy about rumors that he’ll be joining the pop superstar on her trek.

On the newest episode of New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, the athletic brothers had a cute and cryptic exchange about Kansas City Chiefs tight end’s weekend plans while his team has the week off.

“Got anything you’re looking forward to going to?” Jason asked his brother, as Travis replied, “Not really. I might just say f— it and just go somewhere nice, I don’t know. My skin’s getting real pale so I gotta go somewhere sunny.”

“Somewhere south?” Jason teased, before Travis added, “Closer to the equator.”

The Philadelphia Eagles center then pushed a little further, asking, “South of the equator?” to which Travis responded with laughter.

Swift’s Latin American leg of her wildly popular Eras Tour kicked off back in August with four shows in Mexico City. She’s set to perform at Buenos Aires’ River Plate Stadium on November 9, 10 and 11. Following her three dates in Argentina, Swift will head over to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Nov. 18 and 19 before wrapping up in São Paulo, Brazil, on Nov. 24, 25 and 26. Sabrina Carpenter is the opener for the Latin American tour dates.

Earlier this month, the “Anti-Hero” singer was declared a Buenos Aires guest of honor by local legislatives following an approved declaration bill filed by legislator Roy Cortina, according to Buenos Aires Herald. In his bill, Cortina cited Swift as a positive influence on the Argentine audience and noted the economic benefits of her Eras tour entering the city. With 220,000 tickets sold, the bill noted that the sold-out shows “will have an impact on jobs and tourism all over Buenos Aires City.”

Offset Brings Out Son Wave for ‘On the River’ Live Performance Video: Watch

Technically, Offset, his new album and his son all share a name, so it’s only right that he found away to wrap all three together for the latest offering from his Set It Off promotional schedule. In a new Vevo CTRL live performance video, the “Clout” rapper delivered a fiery rendition of album cut “On the River,” featuring an adorable guest appearance from his youngest child.

Performing in a dimly lit room cast in the color palette of a burning fire, Offset tore through “On the River” while holding his son Wave Set, 2, whom the rapper shares with wife Cardi B. Although the performance was just over one and a half minutes long, Wave was incredibly well behaved, even joining his father in bopping along to Southside’s skittering bass toward the end of the clip. At several points in the video, Wave was hilariously more concerned with toying with his dad’s diamonds chains than paying attention to the camera.

“On the River” is the opening track of Offset’s sophomore solo studio album Set It Off, the follow-up to 2019’s Grammy-nominated Father of 4. Set It Off opened at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, becoming Offset’s third career top five entry on the chart as a soloist. Four singles preceded the album’s full release, including the Cardi B-assisted “Jealousy” — which peaked at No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100 — “Worth It” (with Don Toliver), “Say My Grace” (with Travis Scott) and “FAN,” which received a Michael Jackson-inspired music video starring Kai Cenat and Everybody Hates Chris actress Paige Hurd.

Set It Off is Offset’s first LP since Wave’s birth. Offset and Cardi started dating in early 2017, and by June the following year, the “Bongos” rapper confirmed that she and Offset married the September prior, one month before the Migos star publicly proposed to her. After giving birth to their first child together, Kulture Kiari Cephus, in 2018, Cardi welcomed her first son and second child with Offset, Wave Set Cephus, on Sep. 4, 2021.

In September, the hip-hop power couple celebrated their sixth anniversary. In an Instagram post documenting her gifts from her hubby, Cardi set her footage to a series of uncannily apt lyrics from Beyoncé and Diddy’s 2003 track “Summertime”: “Wanna grow old wit’ ya/ Fill a house wit’ your pictures/ Have a son for you, a little girl for me/ Together we’ll raise a family.”

Dylan Marlowe

The singer-songwriter from Statesboro, Ga., is now a Billboard-charting artist thanks to his new single “Boys Back Home” featuring Dylan Scott. The collab, released Oct. 27 via Sony Music Nashville, debuts at No. 49 on Hot Country Songs with 2.4 million U.S. streams and 2,000 downloads sold in its opening week, according to Luminate. It also starts at No. 9 on Country Digital Song Sales, while Marlowe debuts at No. 37 on the Emerging Artists chart.

TikTok, where Marlowe boasts nearly 500,000 followers, has been a significant factor in the song’s growing profile. A portion of the track has been used in over 4,000 clips on the platform, where Marlowe had teased the song leading up to its release.

While Marlowe makes his first chart appearance as a recording artist, he logged one previous entry as a songwriter. He co-wrote (along with Jimi Bell and Joe Fox) Jon Pardi’s 2022 hit “Last Night Lonely,” which spent a week at No. 1 on Country Airplay, and reached No. 5 on Hot Country Songs and No. 27 on the Hot 100.

Marlowe, now based in Nashville, has been releasing his own music since 2018 and dropped his debut eight-track EP, Dirt Road When I Die, in July. He’s slated to open for Morgan Wallen on the Atlanta tour stop of his One Night at a Time World Tour on Nov. 10. He also has a supporting slot on HARDY’s The Mockingbird & The Crow Tour in December.

Bby

The band scores its first appearance on Billboard’s charts with its breakthrough single, “Hotline.” The song, self-released Aug. 3 and now being promoted by Glassnote Entertainment Group, debuts at No. 38 on Alternative Airplay (up 3% in plays). Bby is comprised of Benjy Gibson (whose brother, Fred Again.., has maintained a steady presence on Billboard’s dance/electronic charts), Dragonking, Deon Graham, Tommaso Medica and Tom Parkin.

The group has released two other songs: “Money Body” on Sept. 12, and “Gold Teeth & Fenty” on Oct. 26.

Jaidyn Alexis

The Los Angeles-based social media influencer and rapper is new to Billboard’s charts with her breakout song, “Barbie.” The track, released Oct. 2 on Milf Music, debuted on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart dated Oct. 21 and rose 13-8 on the Nov. 4 ranking. The song’s success now sparks her No. 30 debut on the Nov. 11-dated Emerging Artists chart.

TikTok has been instrumental in the song’s growing profile, as a portion of the track has been used in over 400,000 clips on the platform.

Outside of “Barbie,” Jaidyn Alexis has released three other songs on streaming services: “Stewie” in June, “Workout” in July and “Post Opp, in September. On Oct. 24, she announced on Instagram, alongside her boyfriend Blueface that she had signed with Columbia Records.

310babii

The rapper scores his first Billboard chart hit with “Soak City (Do It).” The song, released in June on sa.vo sounds, rose 29-27 on the Nov. 4-dated TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart, after debuting on the Oct. 7 list. This week, 310babii debuts at No. 31 on the latest Emerging Artists chart.

The song appears on the rapper’s debut full-length LP Lottery Pick, released in June. “Soak City (Do It)” has also been boosted by a remix featuring Mustard, OhGeesy, BlueBucksClan, Tyga and Blueface, released Sept. 8. The track has also soundtracked over 300,000 clips on TikTok.

N3WYRKLA

The Philadelphia-based artist makes her first Billboard chart appearance thanks to her featured spot Brent Faiyaz’s “Outside All Night,” also featuring A$AP Rocky. The track, released Oct. 27 on Faiyaz’s new project Larger Than Life, debuts at No. 10 on Hot R&B Songs and No. 26 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with 5.2 million U.S. streams.

N3WYRKLA (“New York LA”; real name Nyla Nasir) has released one project on streaming services so far: her debut six-track EP SELFishly enTITLED, which arrived Aug. 25.

Lil Gray

The rapper, from Landover, Md., in the Prince George’s County suburb of Washington, D.C., arrives on Billboard’s charts thanks to his featured appearance on Brent Faiyaz’s “Last One Left,” also featuring Missy Elliott. The cut, released Oct. 27 on Faiyaz’s new mixtape Larger Than Life, debuts at No. 11 on Hot R&B Songs and No. 31 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with 4.8 million U.S. streams. (The set starts at No. 2 on Top R&B Albums and No. 11 on the Billboard 200 with 42,000 equivalent album units in its first week.)
