Xzibit, who’s sampled on Kurupt’s “Calling Out Names,” joined DJ HED’s Effective Immediately earlier in June, where he revealed how shocked he was when initially finding out that X’s “Party Up” was a subliminal Kurupt diss, as both rappers had romantic ties to Foxy Brown.
“What was crazy was when I found out that ‘Party Up’ was the answer to ‘Calling Out Names,’” Xzibit said before giving Drake some suggestions for his battle with Kendrick Lamar. “That’s what Drake should’ve did. He should’ve made a ‘Party Up.’ Nah, but he tried to get down and knuckle up with it. I keep telling n—-s, don’t get into fights with n—-s who like to fight.”

“‘Party Up’ was a response to Kurupt,” Xzibit continued before reciting DMX bars from the track. “You wack, you twisted, your girl’s a ho/ You broke, the kid ain’t yours and everybody know… They were fighting over Foxy Brown. We need to do a hip-hop 101.”
“Calling Out Names” arrived in 1999 and found the West Coast rapper sending several shots at DMX, Irv Gotti and Ja Rule.
“And I’mma start callin’ y’all b–h n—s by name/ Mothaf—k D, Mothaf—k M, only X I know is Xzibit or RBX, extraordinary/ Tryna snatch my b—h/ You can have the b—h,” Kurupt raps.
DMX responded with “Party Up (Up in Here)” on his … And Then There Was X album in December 1999. The Swizz Beatz-produced track became a single in 2000 and went on to reach No. 27 on the Hot 100 and cracked the top 10 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Rhythmic Airplay charts.
Fans of DMX can expect more music, as a posthumous album titled DMX Features from the Yonkers native’s estate is set to arrive this summer.

A collection of remixes of The Cure’s 2024 album Songs of a Lost World is out Friday (June 13), and ahead of the release, electronic duo Daybreakers is exclusively sharing their edit of the group’s “Warsong” from the project.
In Daybreakers’ hands, the steady, heavy, four minute and 17 second original becomes more than six minutes of hypnotic synth and muscular basslines, with a long build releasing into sped up of vocals from The Cure frontman Robert Smith and the entire edit containing the same sense of mystique and style of the legendary U.K. band is known for. “As long time fans of The Cure, we had always wanted to do a project with them, and via our mutual friend and legendary producer, Mark Saunders, the opportunity arose when Robert got in touch to discuss our interest in doing a remix,” the duo tell Billboard in a joint statement.

Made up of producers Ric Scot and Alex Hush, Daybreakers previous work includes remixes of U2’s “Love Is Bigger Than Anything In It’s Way” and Madonna’s “I Rise.” “I Rise” hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart in Aug. 2019, aided by a package of remixes from artists including Daybreakers, Tracy Young, DJLW, Kue and Offer Nissim. “Love Is Bigger Than Anything In It’s Way” also hit No. 1 on this same chart in July of 2018 on the power of a remix collection that Daybreakers was a part of.
Scot and Hush’s first work together was a 2020 edit of Erasure’s “Hey Now (Think I Got A Feeling)” after which they decided to make Daybreakers an ongoing project.
As Mixes of a Lost World project came to life, Smith offered Daybreakers two tracks to choose from, one of them being ‘Warsong” which the pair say “really lent itself to something that we could incorporate our sound with. The song has a conflicted sadness to it but at the same time, we knew we could really make it work with a dance vibe.”
Daybreakers remix of “Warsong” has a real sense of drama,” Smith tells Billboard. “The breakdowns are simple, but far-out, and the vibe is cool, but urgent. It is one of my favorites on the [remix] album.”
Mixes of a Lost World will also feature edits by Four Tet, Orbital, Trentemøller, Chino Moreno, Paul Oakenfold and more. The project is out June 13 via Fiction/Capitol Records. In a statement made when the project was announced, Smith said that The Cure “has a colorful history with all kinds of dance music, and I was curious as to how the whole album would sound entirely reinterpreted by others.”
“To be chosen to do a remix is a great honor and we are thrilled with how much Robert likes the remix and we hope others do as well,” Daybreakers add. “Being included on the remix album alongside such a great variety of talented artists and producers is a huge privilege. Additionally, with all of The Cure’s recording royalties being donated to the WarChild UK charity, it really is for a wonderful cause.”

Tate McRae
Tate McRae is back at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart with her new song, “Just Keep Watching.” She released the track May 30 via Apple/Atlantic from F1 the Album, the soundtrack to the film F1, starring Brad Pitt. The set arrives June 27, the same day that the movie premieres in North American theaters.
The song opens with 11.4 million official U.S. streams, 1.3 million radio audience impressions and 1,000 downloads sold in its opening week (May 30-June 5), according to Luminate. It also debuts at No. 33 on the Billboard Hot 100 — the highest launch on the chart this week.

McRae has been one of the top-performing artists on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart dating to its launch in January. She led the inaugural list dated Jan. 18 with “It’s Ok I’m Ok” (which spent four weeks on top) and returned with two-week leader “Revolving Door” in March. The only other artist to top the chart since its start is Lady Gaga, whose “Abracadabra” has ruled for 15 weeks.
D.O.D.
The British DJ and producer tops a Billboard chart for the first time this week thanks to his song “Wrap Yourself Around Me,” featuring NORTH. The track, released in February on Armada Music, rises 3-1 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay with an 18% gain in plays among 24/7 dance reporters and pop stations’ mix show hours.
D.O.D. charted two other songs on Billboard’s charts before this week: “So Much in Love” reached No. 8 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay in August 2023 and “Somedays,” with Sonny Fodera and Jazzy, also hit No. 8 on the chart in November 2024 (as well as No. 15 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs this April).
As for NORTH, the song grants the singer her first No. 1 with her initial chart entry.
Sammy Virji & Issey Cross
The acts each earn their first Billboard radio chart hit this week with their collaboration, “Nostalgia.” Released April 25 on Polydor/Capitol/ICLG, the song debuts at No. 40 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay (up 12%).
Both artists are up-and-coming on Billboard’s charts. Virji had logged one chart hit before this week: “Summertime Blues,” with Chris Lake and Nathan Nicholson, reached No. 48 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in May 2024. Issey Cross claims her first chart appearance.
Daft Punk
The legendary DJ duo’s 2013 album Random Access Memories spends a 500th week on the Top Dance Albums chart, at No. 20. The LP is just the fourth album to reach the 500-week milestone in the chart’s 24-year history, after Lady Gaga’s The Fame (586 weeks), David Guetta’s Nothing But the Beat (542) and Gorillaz’s Demon Days (539).
All the Jewish groups that have traditionally participated in the San Diego Pride Festival have pulled out of this year’s event due to headliner Kehlani‘s vocal support for Palestine. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, eight organizations and synagogues issued a joint statement this week saying that their decision was due to “serious safety concerns” prompted by what they called the R&B singer’s “repeated amplification of violent antisemitic rhetoric.”
Among those pulling out of the event slated to take place on July 19-20 in San Diego’s Balboa Park — Kehlani is slated to perform on the first day of the fest — are the Jewish Federation of San Diego, Anti-Defamation League of San Diego and the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center. In a statement released last week, the organizations said their decision came after “The Finest Community Coalition released a statement last month, signed by nearly three dozen Jewish organizations, urging San Diego Pride to reconsider giving Kehlani a platform. That appeal has thus far gone unanswered, and as a result, there will be no organized Jewish presence at San Diego Pride this year.”
In addition to those organizations, the Chronicle reported that festival’s current director of medical operations and her assistant director have stepped down from their volunteer roles. In response to the actions, San Diego Pride’s board of directors said in a statement that it does not endorse the political views of any of its performers.
“Each member of our community must make their own decision about attending this year’s events, but we hope everyone will come out as a sign of solidarity for our queer community,” read their statement. “We honor the value of artistic integrity, the importance of free expression and the role that artists play in shaping culture, challenging systems and amplifying voices while respecting each other’s differences.”
Kehlani has been hit by a series of boycotts and cancellations due to her pro-Palestinian comments throughout Israel’s ongoing war against Hamas following the militant group’s terror attack on the Jewish state on Oct. 7, 2023, during which raiders killed more than 1,200 people and took more than 250 hostages. In the ensuing war, Israeli bombing and incursions into the Gaza Strip and other Palestinian-majority territories have resulted in the deaths of more than 55,000 Palestinians according to the Gaza Health Ministry, which does not make distinctions between military and civilian deaths.
In May, Kehlani’s Central Park Pride concert in New York was canceled under advisement from the city’s mayor. The festival announced that the Pride with Kehlani show slated for June 26 as part of New York’s SummerStage series of shows was called off after it was notified by Mayor Eric Adams’ office that “they have concerns for security and safety issues.” Kehlani responded to that cancelation with a “lol” on their Instagram Stories. The SummerStage cancelation came after Cornell University pulled the plug on a planned Kehlani appearance at the school’s annual Slope Day event on May 7 over her public support for Palestinians and what they deemed her “antisemitic, anti-Israel sentiments.”
Kehlani responded the the Cornell cancelation with a statement on April 26 in which they said, “I am being asked and called to clarify and make a statement yet again, for the millionth time, that I am not antisemitic nor anti-Jew. I am anti-genocide, I am anti the actions of the Israeli government, I am anti an extermination of an entire people, I am anti the bombing of innocent children, men, women — that’s what I’m anti.”
The singer added, “In fact, the very first Live that I did in the beginning of this genocide was with a really beautiful Jewish organization called Jewish Voices for Peace, and I still continue to learn from and work alongside really impactful Jewish organizers against this genocide.”
Oakland native Kehlani was also slated to be a headliner at SoSF, a new San Francisco pride festival, but they announced last week that they had pulled out of that June 28 event. Kehlani’s 2024 “Next 2 U” video featured the phrase “long live the intifada,” a reference to the two violent uprisings in the West Bank and Gaza Strip aimed at ending Israel’s occupation of those territories. It also depicted the singer and their background dancers waving Palestinian flags and wearing suits made of traditional keffiyeh scarves. In a since-removed Instagram video last May, Kehlani called out their musical peers for not joining in and commenting on Israel’s war against Hamas, saying, “You can’t speak? Disgusting… It’s f–k Israel. It’s f–k Zionism. And it’s f–k a lot of ya’ll too.”

“Built on dynamic band sounds, the album showcases his versatile vocals across a spectrum of moods and styles,” the description continued at the time. “It reflects a deeper layer of vocal maturity and personal storytelling that underscores Jin’s evolving artistry.”

Pitbull, real name Armando Christian Pérez, has now responded to the long-running trend in an interview with the BBC, calling it “priceless” to see fans replicate his look at his shows.
“Every time I’m at a show, I let them know that when you put on a bald cap, I hope you’re ready to have the time of your lives – it feels deeper than just music,” he said. “It’s the ultimate trophy to be able to go on stage and see all the hard work that you put into the music. I’ve been in the game for 25 years and to see every demographic, everybody [dressing up] at the shows is priceless.”

On recent tours, fans, male and female, have adopted the Pitbull attire for the evening and meeting up outside the venue. The rapper and singer toured the U.K. and Ireland earlier this year in February, and has returned for an extended European run with two shows at London’s O2 Arena (June 9, 10) and concluding in Stockholm, Sweden on June 29.
Speaking to the BBC, Pitbull expanded on his continued popularity on a global scale. “There’s an irony as I’m kind of an anomaly in the music business,” he said. “In the Latin world they said I was too English, and in the English world I was too Latin, so to bring it together now, when it all really started around 2010, feels really good.”
Pitbull, who performs in both English and Spanish, has had a number of hits both in the U.K. and U.S. throughout his career, including two No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 (2011’s “Give Me Everything” and 2013’s “Timber”). He released his most recent LP, Trackhouse, in 2023 and over his career has collected nine Billboard Latin Music Awards.
Noel Gallagher has teamed up with Mantra of the Cosmos, a supergroup composed of Happy Mondays’ Shaun Ryder and Bez, Ride’s Andy Bell and former The Who drummer Zak Starkey, for a new song “Domino Bones (Gets Dangerous).”
The song was first teased earlier this year and released on a limited vinyl run, and is now available to listen to on streaming services. Speaking to The Times in January, Gallagher described the psych-rock song: “It’s Dylan, Dali, Ginsberg and a bit of cosmic jibber-jabber. Add in Bez, who dances on the tunes like Zak plays the drums and Andy Bell plays all things stringed, and you have it.”
The band celebrated the limited vinyl release back in January with a show at Liverpool’s Cavern Club, where Starkey’s father Ringo Starr played early shows with The Beatles beginning in 1962.

In a matter of weeks, Gallagher will kick off the Oasis reunion tour in Cardiff, Wales on July 4, with a run of shows in the U.K. and Ireland, North America, Asia and beyond. Bell is reported to join the Oasis lineup on bass, reprising a role he held between 1999 and 2009, appearing on three of their studio LPs. Starkey, who played in Oasis’ lineup from 2004 and 2008, appears to not be in the reunion tour, with Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) set to take on the drummer role.
Recently Starkey has been embroiled in an ongoing saga regarding his position as drummer of The Who. Starkey joined the band in 1996 and accompanied the Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend-led band on a number of global tours.
Following a gig in March, however, Starkey was seemingly axed by the band over his performance, particularly on the show’s final track “The Song Is Over.” Following reports of his sacking, The Who blamed “communication issues” which “had been happily aired” and that Starkey was, indeed, back in the band.
Weeks later in late May, Starkey’s tenure in the band seemingly came to an abrupt end, and he claimed on his Instagram that Daltrey had asked him to “retire” from the band. Speaking on BBC 6 Music on Monday (June. 9), Starkey claimed that the issue arose from “two dropped beats” in the performance, but that “I’ve watched the gig over and over again on YouTube and I can’t find them.”
The Who will embark on their final North American tour this summer, kicking off in Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise, FL on Aug. 16.
