Ariana DeBose to Host 2024 Tony Awards Again

Ariana DeBose just can’t stop doing the thing! The Academy Award-winning actress, dancer and singer is set to return to host the upcoming 77th Annual Tony Awards on June 16.

“I couldn’t pass up the chance to host the Tonys one more time at Lincoln Center,” DeBose said in a statement. “I’m excited to collaborate with the team to create an incredible celebration of this season’s achievements on Broadway for our community and for everyone at home.”

DeBose — who picked up a Tony nod for her performance in Summer: The Donna Summer Musical back in 2018 — hosted the Tonys in 2022 and 2023. Known for bring her triple-threat chops to her hosting gigs, the West Side Story actress has made quite the name for herself as an awards show emcee and presenter. At last year’s BAFTA Awards ceremony, DeBose opened the show with an original rap honoring the night’s women nominees, resulting in a hilarious viral moment that landed Angela Bassett a new catchprase.

The 2024 Tony Awards will air live from the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City on CBS from 8 to 11 p.m. ET. The show will also stream on Paramount+ in the U.S., and will be available on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the ceremony airs. DeBose is also set to produce and choreograph this year’s opening number.

CBS is also teaming up with Pluto TV to mount The Tony Awards: Act One, a pre-show featuring exclusive live content leading into this year’s ceremonies. The first round of awards will be presented on Pluto TV, which is accessible via smart TV, mobile app, streaming devices, or the service’s website. More details about Act One — including information regarding the hosts — will be available in the coming weeks.

The third time will almost certainly be a charm for DeBose. She picked up a Primetime Emmy nod for outstanding variety special (live) thanks to her work on the 76th Annual Tony Awards. Recently, DeBose has been toiling away on the film side of the industry. In November, she starred in Wish, a Disney animated musical fantasy film for which she recorded the original song “This Wish,” which earned a Critic’s Choice Award nomination for best song. DeBose then kicked off 2024 with a turn in the Dua Lipa-starring Argylle, and she is also set to appear in Kraven the Hunter, which is currently slated to hit theaters Aug. 3.

Nominations for the 2024 Tony Awards will be announced April 30.

The music video — directed by Andrew Donoho — kicks off with the band rocking out in a tiny, packed club, and is interspersed with scenes of Joseph in the middle of a dark street as a vehicle races toward him.

Twenty One Pilots initially announced upcoming album Clancy on Feb. 29, and celebrated the news by dropping the first single “Overcompensate.” The track peaked and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 64 on the chart dated March 16.

ATEEZ & xikers to Star in Grammy Museum’s First K-Pop ‘Pop-Up’ Exhibition

The heartbeat of Korean pop music will pulsate through the halls of the Grammy Museum as it embarks on a multi-year celebration of the global phenomenon by spotlighting two trailblazing acts.

To kick off the new initiative, Billboard can exclusively reveal that the Grammy Museum will present KQ ENT. (ATEEZ & xikers): A Grammy Museum Pop-Up for a limited time beginning next month.

Inside the museum’s third-floor red carpet gallery, the pop-up exhibit will feature boy bands ATEEZ and xikers, which are under the home of quickly rising K-pop agency and management label KQ Entertainment.

The exhibit promises an immersive experience for fans featuring outfits and props throughout both groups’ careers. One exhibition highlight includes props and the main outfits worn in ATEEZ’s “Crazy Form” music video, the lead single from their 2023 album THE WORLD EP.FIN: WILL, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in December and has earned 278,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. to date, according to Luminate.

Also, xikers will feature the attire from the music for “We Don’t Stop,” the single from their latest EP, HOUSE OF TRICKY: Trial and Error which marked another chart triumphant for KQ Ent. when it debuted at No. 73 on the Billboard 200 earlier this month with 13,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Fans can also look forward to other props, outfits and mementos from different KQ projects including the look xikers member JUNGHOON wore for the band’s performance video of “TRICKY HOUSE” off their 2023 debut HOUSE OF TRICKY : Doorbell Ringing.

To date, ATEEZ has earned 1.49 million total equivalent album units in the U.S. to date since their October 2018 debut. Meanwhile, xikers has earned 70,000 total equivalent album units in the U.S. so far as they approach their one-year anniversary on March 30.

“It’s an honor to have pieces from our latest music release displayed at the Grammy Museum where so many wonderful artists have left a piece of their musical history,” ATEEZ says in a statement. “There are so many elements involved in the process of our music creation and we’re excited to be able to share some of it through our music video outfits and props.”

xikers adds, “We’re so grateful for the opportunity to have our pieces displayed alongside our labelmate and seniors ATEEZ, as well as so many amazing artists that we’ve grown up listening to. Though it’s only been a little over a year since our debut, we’re so happy to take part in this opportunity at the Grammy Museum and hope that everyone has fun looking at all the interesting outfits and props that have helped create the xikers world in the music video of our latest release.”

Kyu Wook Kim, CEO of KQ Entertainment, also made a rare public statement as part of the milestone.

“The global spread of K-pop is truly remarkable and it is a great honor to see ATEEZ and xikers represent K-pop music at the Grammy Museum,” the CEO and longtime K-pop executive shares. “Witnessing our artists’ hard work and dedication being recognized on such a large scale by the Grammy Museum is truly a privilege and fills us with so much pride. We aim to continue to do our best to work with our artists to break boundaries in music on the global stage with K-pop.”

The Grammy Museum also shared more insight into curating its two-year K-pop commitment.

“Korean pop music is one of the greatest phenomena in the history of recorded music and culture,” says Michael Sticka, President/CEO of the Grammy Museum. “The Grammy Museum plans to celebrate the world of K-pop, its much-deserved success, and worldwide chart-breaking artists by curating dedicated exhibits and programming over the next two years. We look forward to launching this series with exclusive outfits and props from xikers and ATEEZ.”

KQ ENT. (ATEEZ & xikers): A Grammy Museum Pop-Up is scheduled to open on April 10 and run until June 10, launching just ahead of ATEEZ’s debut at Coachella 2024 as the first K-pop boy band to perform at the Indio festival.

More information about ticket reservations and the event can be found at the Grammy Museum website.

The upcoming film is set to focus on the making of The Boss’ 1982 album, Nebraska, and will be based on the 2023 Warren Zanes deep-dive novel of the same name. Per THR, Scott Cooper will be adapting the book into a screenplay and will also direct, with Eric Robinson and Ellen Goldsmith-Vein as producers and Gotham Group backing the film.

Springsteen has previously said that Nebraska, his sixth studio album, is his most definitive work. “If I had to pick out one album and say, ‘This is going to represent you 50 years from now’ I’d pick Nebraska,” he told CBS Sunday Morning in 2023. The project peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated Oct. 30, 1982.

White, who is known for his roles in The Iron Claw, Shameless and more, took the award season by storm due to his role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the FX comedy-drama series The Bear. The 33-year-old star won a number of best actor awards for his role on The Bear this year, including two Critics’ Choice Awards, two Golden Glob Awards, two SAG Awards, an Emmy Award and more.

At the time of publication, there is no information on production or timeline plans for the upcoming biopic.

According to Deadline, Fran Drescher will also be reprising her role as publicist Bobbi Flekman. The cast is additionally set to include Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Jason Acuña, Nina Conti, Griffin Matthews, Kerry Godliman, Chris Addison, Brad Williams and Paul Shaffer — though their roles, in addition to Smith and Ulrich’s, have not yet been confirmed.

Production for the Rob Reiner-directed is currently underway with original stars/writers Christopher Guest (Nigel Tufnel), Michael McKean (David St. Hubbins) and Harry Shearer (Derek Smalls) reprising their roles as the hapless metal band who once lost a drummer in a “bizarre gardening accident.”

The original film — in which most of the dialogue was improvised — follows the rockers on a 1982 U.S. tour to promote their Smell the Glove album. Though the film did modest box office at the time, it has since blossomed into a must-see with a cult following, even making it onto the Library of Congress’ list of culturally significant artifacts.

Reiner is also set to return to the screen to revisit his role as documentarian Martin “Marty” Di Bergi. In an interview with Deadline last year, the director hinted at the sequel. “I can tell you hardly a day goes by without someone saying, ‘why don’t you do another one?,’” Reiner said of the idea to revisit the film for its 40th anniversary. “For so many years, we said, ‘nah.’ It wasn’t until we came up with the right idea how to do this. You don’t want to just do it, to do it. You want to honor the first one and push it a little further with the story.”

At the time, Reiner said the second Tap would follow the band after a long break. “They’ve played Albert Hall, played Wembley Stadium, all over the country and in Europe,” Reiner said. “They haven’t spent any time together recently, and that became the premise. The idea was that Ian Faith, who was their manager, he passed away. In reality, [actor] Tony Hendra passed away. Ian’s widow inherited a contract that said Spinal Tap owed them one more concert. She was basically going to sue them if they didn’t. All these years and a lot of bad blood we’ll get into and they’re thrown back together and forced to deal with each other and play this concert.”

Diddy’s Attorney Vows to End ‘Witch Hunt’ After Multiple Raids Led By Federal Agents

After his Los Angeles and Miami homes were raided by law enforcement on Monday (Mar. 25) following his involvement in an ongoing federal sex traffic investigation, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ attorney, Aaron Dyer, sent Billboard a statement calling the raid an “unprecedented ambush” and labeling the takedowns against his client as a “witch hunt.”

“Yesterday, there was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs’ residences,” Dyer tells Billboard on Tuesday (March 26). “There is no excuse for the excessive show of force and hostility exhibited by authorities or the way his children and employees were treated. Mr. Combs was never detained but spoke to and cooperated with authorities.”

Dyer adds that Diddy and his family haven’t been arrested and can travel freely even after yesterday’s incident.

“Despite media speculation, neither Mr. Combs nor any of his family members have been arrested nor has their ability to travel been restricted in any way. This unprecedented ambush — paired with an advanced, coordinated media presence — leads to a premature rush to judgment of Mr. Combs and is nothing more than a witch hunt based on meritless accusations made in civil lawsuits. There has been no finding of criminal or civil liability with any of these allegations. Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every single day to clear his name.”

Executed by Homeland Security, cops swarmed Diddy’s LA residence, and footage showed his sons, Justin and Christian Combs detained outside of the property. Earlier today, it was reported that Diddy agreed to sell his stake in Revolt TV. The news comes months after he stepped down from his chairman position amid sexual assault allegations. According to TMZ, Combs sold his remaining shares to an undisclosed buyer, and the deal was reportedly finalized this week.

Mel B Feels ‘So Sorry’ for Kate Middleton Following Cancer Diagnosis

Mel B stopped by the Tamron Hall Show on Tuesday morning (March 26), where she opened up about the updated version of her memoir, Brutally Honest.

As the book is about sharing her truth, Hall asked the Spice Girl what she thought of Kate Middleton revealing that she’s undergoing treatment for cancer. “I feel so sorry for her,” the West Yorkshire native said of the Princess of Wales. “Let her go through what she’s going through behind closed doors. It’s almost like she was forced to make a statement when she’s going through a horrible diagnosis.”

Earlier this month, Princess Kate shared a health update in response to weeks of online conspiracy theories and rumors about her whereabouts, ranging from media reports about a divorce from Prince William to plastic surgery and more. “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said in a video released to social media on March 2022. “The surgery was successful. However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

She added that she and Prince William “have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family. As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.”

The Princess of Wales continued, “It has taken us time to explain everything to [children] George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok. As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”

A palace spokesperson revealed to People that Princess Kate started preventative chemotherapy in late February.

Elsewhere in her interview, Mel B discussed her upcoming wedding to hairdresser Rory McPhee, adding that fellow Spice Girl Victoria Beckham will be making her dress. “He’s a family friend,” Mel said of Rory. “He already knew my dad before my dad passed away, so there was already that installed trust and respect and safety. I wasn’t starting from scratch.”
