Dame Dash Claims Jay-Z Was Pretending to Be Him on ‘Big Pimpin”

Dame Dash is making news again, and this time it’s for saying something about his former business partner and friend Jay-Z. Dame recently sat down with Omari Heflin and Terone Johnson of the “Moguls in the Making” podcast and made a big claim about one of the most legendary rap songs of the early 2000s: Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’.”

After giving his thoughts on the Drake and Kendrick feud, Dame was asked about Future using his name in a bar on a recent song. “Big pimpin’, rockin’ wit her like I’m Dame Dash,” Future raps on “Fried (She’s a Vibe)” off his and Metro’s No. 1 album We Don’t Trust You. “I f—k with Future for that,” says Dame.

The hosts then throw a curveball, saying that they heard the entire song was actually about him. Dame takes a beat and then reveals, “everything Jay said, he was pretending to be me.”

Dash reiterated after co-host Terone Johnson said, “I heard that whole song was actually about Dame Dash.” Co-host Omari Heflin tries to confirm asking, “So you saying he ain’t tellin’ his story, he tellin’ your story?” to which Dame answered with a simple, “Duh.” You can watch the full interview here.

Billboard reached out to Jay-Z’s representatives for comment.

Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time Dame has made this claim. Last month, when he was a guest on the “My Expert Opinion” podcast, Dame was asked about getting name-dropped by Future. The Roc-A-Fella co-founder gave big ups to Future, saying, “Shout out to Future, ’cause he said my name on a current record. And, don’t think I don’t appreciate it. You know what’s cool about it? Future was talking about my past in the present.”

Dame then asked the room why Future would name drop him when he’s not the guy who made the record. “You were one of the stars of the video,” said Mecca, one of the hosts. “‘Cause n—s know it was about me,” Dame replied, as all the hosts started laughing.

It’s been reported that Dame regrets his behavior in the “Big Pimpin’” video — in a video released via TMZ back in 2017, Dash said he was “embarrassed” when he looked back on those days. “I would never want my daughter to have to go through that and if I ever saw my son Boogie doing that, we would have some serious issues,” he said.

Kate Hudson Reaches Billboard’s Charts With Debut Album ‘Glorious’

Kate Hudson has already achieved numerous accolades in her career, including an Academy Award nomination for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous, but now she has something else to add to her résumé: Billboard-charting artist on her own.

Hudson’s debut studio album Glorious, released May 17 on HK Music/Virgin Records, debuts on each of the following charts this week (dated June 1):

  • Heatseekers Albums: No. 3
  • Top Album Sales: No. 10
  • Top Current Album Sales: No. 10
  • Vinyl Albums: No. 19
  • Independent Albums: No. 41

The 12-track set starts with 8,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in its opening week (May 17-23), according to Luminate. Of that sum, 7,000 were in album sales, with 2,000 in vinyl. Its first week totals were aided by its availability across five vinyl variants (including exclusive iterations for Amazon, Barnes & Noble and Target, as well as a signed edition in the artist’s webstore) and a promotional partnership with TalkShopLive.

The album also helps Hudson debut at No. 5 on the Emerging Artists chart.

Hudson teamed with Grammy Award-winner and Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee Linda Perry for much of the album, along with Johan Carlsson and Danny Fujikawa. The latter is Hudson’s fiancé and singer-guitarist in the band Chief. Carlsson was a member of the band Carolina Liar and has written and produced songs for Flo Rida, Ariana Grande, One Direction and Katy Perry, among others.

In a recent interview with Billboard, Hudson said that most of the set’s songs were written over a two-week period. “At one point, we wrote three songs in a day and Linda’s like, ‘I think we need to stop. I think we have two albums.’ We could have written forever.”

Hudson, who is managed by Sandbox Entertainment, signed with Virgin Music Group in February and released her first single under the deal, “Talk About Love,” Jan. 30.

Glorious earns Hudson her first solo entry on Billboard’s charts, following one collaborative hit. In September 2012, her role as dance teacher Cassandra July in the fourth season of Glee resulted in a Billboard chart placement following that season’s premiere episode. The Glee cast’s “Americano/Dance Again,” featuring Hudson, reached No. 25 on the Pop Digital Song Sales chart and No. 61 on Digital Song Sales. The song, in which Hudson performs in character, is a mashup of Lady Gaga’s “Americano” and Jennifer Lopez’s “Dance Again,” featuring Pitbull.

Along with Almost Famous, Hudson has also starred in box office hits including Bride Wars, Glass Onion and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

Metro Boomin Jokingly Disses 21 Savage Over Drake Friendship

21 Savage is stuck playing mediator as a friend to both parties in the heated feud between Metro Boomin and Drake.

Savage was on Instagram Live over the weekend, when Metro continued to playfully troll him about his OVO ties and allegiance to his Her Loss collaborator.

The super producer jokingly jabbed at the Savage in the IG Live comment section while referring to him as “OVO Savage” and alleging that he “JUS KNOW [21 Savage] GOT A OWL TRAMP STAMP,” as noted by HipHopDX.

Savage then welcomed Metro into the IG Live session before giving him the boot. He even used Drake’s “Push Ups” diss against him in the process.

“Oh, you was talking s–t, b—h? Get off my Live,” 21 said. “I’m finna block this n—a. Metro, shut your ho- a– up and make some drums, n—a.”

Metro and Drake are still beefing and neither party has disclosed the source of their friction. Drake dissed him on the aforementioned “Push Ups” and dropped Metro Boomin’s government name (Leland Wayne) and called him “f—–g lame” on “Family Matters.”

Metro responded with the “BBL Drizzy” beat giveaway, and remixes to the AI-assisted instrumental have taken on a life of their own. Drake even rapped over the diss beat on Sexyy Red’s “U My Everything.”

Earlier in May, while fans flooded another 21 Savage IG Live, he fired back with his belief that Drake and Metro will eventually figure things out and become cool again.

“Don’t keep coming on to my motherf—–g Live talking about no motherf—–g beef. Metro my brother and Drake my brother. Those n—-s going to figure that s–t out eventually,” he said.

21 actually brought Drake out as a special guest at his Toronto concert on Monday night (May 27) as part of his American Dream Tour. They performed collabs like “Knife Talk” and “Rich Flex.” Savage then gave Drizzy his flowers before he left the stage.

“That’s a good n—a right there, a genuine n—a. We need more n—-s like him in the culture. On my momma, straight up,” 21 stated.

Cardi B Defends Adult Content After Candace Owens Calls for Ban: ‘Is It That Bad for Y’all?’

Cardi B has taken a stance on the debate surrounding adult content after Candace Owens took to X to call for a ban.

“Ban pornography. It is a psychological weapon intended to weaken our men,” the conservative political commentator wrote on the platform earlier this month. In response, Cardi B shared an Instagram comment in defense of porn, as seen in a screenshot shared by TMZ. “Ommmggg why yall so against porn ? Is it that bad for yall?” she wrote. “I enjoy it but I don’t know I guess is like a 6 time a year thing. I personally don’t feel no connection or addiction to it just a little quick one two … NOTHING LIKE REAL INTIMACY!”

She continued that adult content should “actually teach men how to please a woman.”

Cardi is the latest star to chime in on the topic of NSFW content and sites. In April, Ye (the artist formerly known as Kanye West) deleted his X account after he appeared to receive a wave of backlash for announcing his own adult content website. The rapper tweeted a six second video with the phrase “Yeezy Porn Is Cumming,” directing viewers to “go to yeezy.com.” According to TMZ, Ye is planning to build an adult content studio under his Yeezy brand, and is in contact with Stormy Daniels’ ex-husband Mike Moz to discuss leading the project. Following the announcement, the Vultures artist received an onslaught of criticism from fans, who urged him to “return to Christ” following his Jesus Is King era.

T-Pain Responds After Being Criticized for Dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’

T-Pain was enjoying himself dancing on stage during a Las Vegas nightclub performance over the holiday weekend, but ended up having to clarify that he wasn’t trying to make a “political statement.”

The king of Auto-Tune performed at Resorts World’s Ayu Dayclub on Sunday (May 26), and one of the hilarious clips that went viral happened to be of T-Pain happily dancing in a white robe while Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss “Not Like Us” boomed throughout the venue.

Some fans took it as if T-Pain were choosing sides in the Kendrick and Drake rap war of 2024, and the “Bartender” singer made sure to clarify he was just having fun and dancing on stage during his performance.

“Welp! You heard it here first folks. Don’t drunk dance in a robe. Somehow it’s a political statement now,” he wrote to X on Monday (May 27). “Pls don’t let somebody else’s beef kill y’all’s fun. Let ppl dance PLEASE!! Mustard killed that f—-n beat tho. It’d be pretty weird if you didn’t dance to it.”

“You got a cease and desist to not dance to that song,” one fan joked while another wrote, “Aubrey and the boys blowing ur line up huh?”

K. Dot’s eviscerating anthem spent back-to-back weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 before “Not Like Us” was dethroned by Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help.”

While T-Pain felt the need to address the dancing video publicly, he told Billboard earlier as part of his May cover story that the only people who need to like him are those closest to him.

“It’s five people in this house that I need to like me: my wife, my kids, myself. That’s all I need,” he said. “That’s all I ever needed. So, you know, suck a butt.”

Darius Rucker Speaks Out After Arrest for Misdemeanor Drug Charges: ‘It Is What It Is’

Darius Rucker is speaking out about his February arrest, which found the country star facing two misdemeanor charges related to an instance of alleged drug possession more than a year ago.

While promoting his new memoir Life’s Too Short on TODAY Tuesday (May 28), Rucker recounted how he was initially pulled over in Tennessee in 2023 while helping a friend who was moving, who had asked the musician to “take some stuff.” According to the “Wagon Wheel” singer, the police officer who stopped him at the time had allegedly discovered that there were drugs with him in the vehicle, but let him off the hook anyway.

“The crazy thing was, they let me go,” the Hootie & the Blowfish frontman said during his interview with NBC’s long-running morning show. “It was a year later that I get a phone call that said there was a warrant for my arrest. I went down, we handled it, my lawyers are taking care of it. It is what it is.”

Rucker didn’t divulge any more details about Williamson County’s case against him, but did confirm that the charges are still pending.

The interview comes about four months after news broke that Rucker had been arrested and was facing two counts of simple possession and casual exchange of a controlled substance, along with a third misdemeanor charge for expired tags on his vehicle. At the time, his attorney, Mark Puryear, said in a statement to Billboard that the singer was “fully cooperating with authorities related to misdemeanor charges.”

In another recent interview with People, Rucker expressed that he’s still confused by the year-long wait between the moment he was actually pulled over and his arrest. “My friends who were in the police department were like, ‘Have you pissed somebody off up here? Because this is crazy that they’re doing this a year later,’” he told the publication. “But I think somebody wanted to make an example out of me, and they did. And I’m handling it with my lawyers, and paying the price, and we’ll move on with our lives.”

Morgan Wallen’s Mom Lesli Appears to Diss Nashville Council After City Rejects Sign Outside Son’s Downtown Bar

Morgan Wallen‘s mom is not having it. The country singer’s mother took to Instagram last week to do some mama bear-ing after the Nashville Metro City Council voted to deny the singer’s request to install a large exterior sign (or “aerial encroachment” as they put it) for his soon-to-open This Bar and Tennessee Kitchen due to the country star’s past incidents.

“Way to go Morgan, the city of Nashville says ‘Thank you for all of your help bringing in millions of revenue,’” Lesli Wallen posted on the Country Chord Instagram feed alongside a recent headline reading, “Morgan Wallen throws major shade at Nashville Councilman Jordan Huffman who says he doesn’t ‘belong in town.’” The second slide was one her son had reportedly shared on his Insta Story after the vote with an aerial view of one of his recent sold-out series of three shows at the city’s 69,000-capacity Nissan Stadium.

On May 21, council members gave a “no” to the restaurant’s development company’s application to put a 20-foot-tall external sign advertising the latest celeb-themed eatery in the city’s downtown. Thirty members of the council voted against the sign, with only three members voting in favor of it and four abstaining. A few of the council members cited Wallen’s past controversial incidents — including his use of a racial slur in January 2021 and his arrest on felony charges last month for throwing a chair off the six-story roof off of Eric Church’s Chief’s bar — as reasons for rejecting the sign.

Councilwoman at Large Delisha Porterfield was among those who referenced Morgan’s past behavior in rejecting the sign.

The establishment was originally slated to open over the Memorial Day weekend, but as of Tuesday no new grand opening date had been announced yet. “We want to make sure that Nashville was a supportive place for everyone, so I don’t want to see a billboard with the name of a person who’s throwing chairs off of balconies and who is saying racial slurs, using the n-word, so I’m voting no,” Porterfield wrote.

Wallen was arrested in April on three felony charges of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct after he allegedly threw a chair off the roof, an incident Porterfield referenced in an X post. “We just voted down a resolution allowing an Aerial Encroachment with Morgan Wallen’s name on it,” she said. “Yes THAT Morgan Wallen. The one who throws chairs & uses racial slurs. Nope! No thank you. Try that in a small town….better yet….don’t try it all,” she added, with the “small town” bit a seeming reference to Jason Aldean’s controversial 2023 single “Try That in a Small Town.”

At press time the restaurant’s Instagram account still said it was “coming soon,” with fans commenting that they were disappointed by the delay.

This run will include the French duo’s first ever headlining show at the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 4, a show that will mark the pair’s biggest U.S. headlining performance to date.

Also all happening in October, additional dates include Denver’s Mission Ballroom, Portland’s Edgefield On the Lawn and four other shows in Vancouver, B.C.; Seattle; Atlanta and Chicago.

The new shows expand Justice’s 2024 U.S. tour behind its latest album Hyperdrama, with six previously announced shows happening in Brooklyn, N.Y.; Washington, D.C., Boston; Philadelphia and Miami, where Justice will be one of the headliners for III Points 2024.

Justice made its live comeback this past April at Coachella 2024, where the duo — Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay — debuted a hot-anticipated new live show. This stage rig is a morphing amalgamation of chrome and lights, adding dazzling accompaniment to music from the duo’s fourth studio album, Hyperdrama, released in April by Justice’s longstanding label, Ed Banger Records.

In the pair’s April Billboard cover story, the duo reported working with a team of seven computer scientists to develop this new show.

Jason Kelce Teases Brother Travis Kelce About His Outfit With Taylor Swift Joke: ‘Now That’s Funny!’

Taylor Swift‘s cats likely didn’t have a hand — sorry, a paw — in designing Travis Kelce‘s recent attire, but it sure does look like it. At least, that’s what Jason Kelce thinks.

The retired Philadelphia Eagles center reposted a tweet Monday (May 27) poking fun at his baby brother’s recent basketball game outfit, which included a pair of jeans sliced all over with harsh cutouts. “What the f–k did taylor cats do with his jeans,” one Swiftie wrote on the platform, sharing a photo of Travis’ ‘fit.

Retweeting the joke, Jason wrote, “Now that’s funny!”

Travis had worn the unorthodox pants a day prior at the Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Dallas Mavericks playoff game, which he attended alongside Kansas City Chiefs teammates Patrick Mahomes and Marquise Brown, as well as Brittany Mahomes, who is married to the quarterback. Jason’s recent teasing of Travis comes shortly after the two brothers addressed a more serious topic on their joint podcast New Heights. On Friday’s (May 24) episode, the duo finally shared their reactions to Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker’s controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College earlier this month, in which he quoted Swift’s “Bejeweled” while condemning President Joe Biden, abortion, birth control, LGBTQ Pride, the “cultural emasculation of men” and more.

“I’ve known him for seven-plus years,” Travis said on the show of Butker. “I cherish him as a teammate … He is every bit of a great person and great teammate. He’s treated friends and family that I’ve introduced to him with nothing but respect and kindness, and that’s how he treats everyone.”

“When it comes down to his views and what he said … those are his,” the tight end continued at the time, meanwhile Jason nodded in agreement. “I can’t say I agree with the majority of it, or just about any of it outside of him loving his family and his kids. I don’t think I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views, of how to go about life. That’s just not who I am.”

Snoop Calls Drake & Kendrick Lamar His ‘Nephews’ & Thanks Them for ‘Raising the Bar’ in Rap Feud

Snoop Dogg has given his thoughts on the Kendrick Lamar and Drake beef. While promoting his role in The Garfield Movie during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, the Doggfather shouted out both rappers for setting a good precedent.

“Well, the only thing I want to say about that whole scenario is that I want to give both of them a shout-out for raising the bar as far as lyrics, as far as song making and writing because the writing has been upped since the confrontation,” he said. “Those are my nephews. I’m not in the middle of it. I support both of them and that’s personal business, not my business.”

Finally, Snoop added, “As far as what they did for the industry and the rap game, they made you rap again. You can’t mumble your way and gimmick your way to a song no more, buddy. So thank y’all.”

If you remember, the West Coast legend was taken aback by Drake’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” in a video he posted on Instagram April 20, saying, “They did what? When? How? Are you sure? [Sighs] Y’all have a good night and too all … [Laughs]… Why everybody calling my phone, blowing me up? What the f—k? What happened? What’s going on? I’m going back to bed. Good night.” He then reposted a fan-made clip of the song on his IG Story.

Snoop saying he’s not in the middle of the beef is interesting, though, since his voice was used by Drake in a troll job gone awry as he tried to rush Kendrick into responding to “Push Ups.” The Toronto rapper was eventually forced to take down “Taylor Made Freestyle” by the Tupac estate after being threatened with litigation.
