Ariana Grande Proves She Was Always a Star in Adorable Throwback Birthday Post

Happy birthday, Ariana Grande! The pop superstar turned 31 on Wednesday (June 26), and she took to Instagram to share a sweet throwback video from her childhood.

In the clip, she’s seen in a multi-colored swimsuit with her curly hair on full display, belting various songs and dancing for her family. “Why don’t you sing Celine Dion?” the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer’s mother, Joan Grande, is heard telling her at the end of the video. Ari captioned the post with a simple bubble emoji.

Ariana’s older brother, Frankie Grande, also took to social media to share sweet birthday wishes for his sibling. “Haaaaaaaaaapppy BIRTHDAY to the most beautiful, amazing, talented, and most importantly, KIND sister in the entire universe,” he captioned a photo of baby Ari giving the duo’s mom a cute smooch. “From the moment you came into my life, you’ve brought nothing but joy, love, and endless inspiration. I am beyond grateful to be your brother and to witness your journey, both as an artist and as the beautiful soul you are. Beyond that though, I’m just… so damn proud of you. You have done so much for me in our lives, and I couldn’t be more thankful. You are my rock. My balance.”

He concluded his message, “May this year be filled with all the happiness, success, and love that you deserve. Keep shining your light and sharing your magic with the world. I love you past the moon and further and further and further to the ends of the universe and back!”

Deadmau5 Threatens to Remove His Music From Spotify Over Daniel Ek Comment: ‘F—ing Vultures’

In late May, Spotify CEO Daniel Ek made headlines when he tweeted, “Today, with the cost of creating content being close to zero, people can share an incredible amount of content.”

One person who took offense is deadmau5, who put up an Instagram post over the weekend offering feedback on Ek’s comment. “Incorrect,” the producer’s caption reads. “The cost of creating content was 25+ years of my life and much of those proceeds going to your company you complete f–king idiot.”

Trending on Billboard

The post garnered nearly 38,000 likes and many comments, with one person writing, “We hate Spotify so much,” to which the Canadian electronic producer responded by saying, “feel that, I’m about to pull my catalog from these f–king vultures, enough’s enough.”

As of publishing, the producer’s catalog is still available on Spotify, where he currently boasts nearly 5 million monthly listeners.

“I’ve been saying for a long time that we as the IP owners, the artists, the artist managers and the major record companies have allowed these multibillion-dollar companies to build platforms and companies with our art and our fans, and now we’re locked out,” deadmau5’s manager Dean Wilson tells Billboard in regards to royalty rates on DSPs like Spotify. “We can’t talk to our fans on the platform with our art that we’ve built.

“When you say that out loud, it’s insane that we keep allowing that to happen,” Wilson continues. “They’re our fans that we drive to platforms with our art, and unless we pay [the platforms]…you can’t get to your fans. Or you don’t even know if you’re getting to your fans. It’s like, if you spend this amount of money and move this needle on that, you could get to maybe this amount of people.

“Then how much data do we get back in return? The bare minimum they can give you. Ask me today, ‘How much am I getting paid per stream on Spotify?’ I don’t know. And that’s our job. How crazy is that, that that’s our business, and if you stream my record for more than 30 seconds today, I can’t tell you what that generated. It’s in this mythical bucket.”

In April, Spotify reported that its first-quarter revenue jumped 20% and gross profit topped 1 billion euros ($1.08 billion), helping return the 18-year-old streaming company to profitability and putting it on track to meet its 2024 growth target.

Earlier this month, the streamer announced that it’s raising prices for the second consecutive year, with its premium individual plan in the U.S. increasing by a dollar to $11.99 a month starting July 1. The platform’s duo plan will also go up by a buck to $16.99 a month while the family plan will be increased by $3 to $19.99 a month.

Despite the price hikes, royalty rates recently went down for songwriters on the platform. By adding audiobooks to premium offerings like individual, duo and family plans, Spotify claims these subscriptions are now “bundles” — a type of plan that qualifies it for a discounted rate on U.S. mechanical royalties given that multiple products are offered under one price. According to Billboard estimates, the change means publishers and writers will earn about $150 million less in royalties over the course of Spotify’s first bundled year.

Since the bundling change was first reported, Spotify has been targeted by the National Music Publishers’ Association (NMPA) on multiple fronts. In May, it was hit with a lawsuit by the Mechanical Licensing Collective over the discounted rate. In response, Spotify has called the NMPA’s accusations “baseless” and “misleading” and argued of the MLC lawsuit that “bundles were a critical component” of the Phono IV agreement struck between publishers and streaming services.

Camila Cabello Worried Shawn Mendes Duet ‘Señorita’ Could Make the ‘Couple Thing’ Her ‘New Identity’

Breakups are hard, but being permanently tied to your ex through a smash hit song can be even harder.

In a new Complex cover story published Wednesday (June 26) ahead of her new album C,XOXO, Camila Cabello got candid about her feelings toward “Señorita,” which she released in 2019 with Shawn Mendes just before they started publicly dating — and suffice to say, it’s not necessarily her favorite song in her discography now that the two stars are split up.

When asked whether she ever tires of hearing the Billboard Hot 100-topping duet or “Havana” — which also reached No. 1 on the chart in its heyday — the Fifth Harmony alum said yes, but especially “Señorita.”

“I think there’s always a worry when a song becomes so massive that it’s going to be bigger than you,” she told the publication. “I obviously love that they were so massive and successful. But it does get people attached to you in a certain light. I was in a really public relationship and as a woman, you’re like, ‘I don’t want this couple thing to be my new identity.’”

Cabello and Mendes first sparked romance rumors in July 2019, one month after “Señorita” dropped. The pair went on to date for about two years before announcing their breakup in November 2021, sharing a joint statement that read: “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends.”

The pair appeared to reunite in April 2023 when fans spotted them packing on PDA at Coachella; however, their rekindling was short-lived. Earlier this year, Cabello confirmed on Call Her Daddy that she and the “Stitches” singer had temporarily gotten back together but quickly decided to end it.

“It was a fun moment,” she said on the podcast. “I think you’re just kind of like, ‘Yeah, this doesn’t really … it’s not a fit — it doesn’t feel right. Luckily, I was in a place in my life where … it took us both less time to be like, ‘This doesn’t feel right and we don’t really need to try so hard to make it work. It’s all good, let’s move on.’”

Kelsea Ballerini Announces Noah Kahan Duet ‘Cowboys Cry Too’: Here’s When It Arrives

Saddle up, Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan fans: The two singer/songwriters are partnering up on a new song titled “Cowboys Cry Too,” and it’s dropping in less than 48 hours.

The “Peter Pan” singer broke the news Wednesday (June 26) via social media, sharing the single’s cover art and release date. “cowboys cry too with the incredible @NoahKahan out friday,” she wrote. “so proud and excited to release this first song in a new chapter of music.”

On the cover, a blurry photo of the “Dial Drunk” artist’s profile sits in the foreground, while an in-focus portrait of Ballerini looking down solemnly makes up the background. Reposting the announcement on his Instagram Story, Kahan simply wrote, “Can’t wait for this.”

The track comes nearly a month and a half after the two stars teamed up at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, where Ballerini enlisted the Vermont native for a joint performance of her song “Mountain With a View” and his Billboard Hot 100 hit “Stick Season.” In a red-carpet interview with Billboard ahead of the ceremony, Kahan recalled meeting his collaborator and her boyfriend, Outer Banks star Chase Stokes, for the first time at Billboard + NMPA Songwriter Awards during Grammy Week in February.

“I kind of felt overwhelmed and out of place,” he said. “Kelsea and Chase made me feel really comfortable, and I think that’s why I was so excited to work with her. Kelsea’s just one of those people that the voice is so special, but the songwriting is so real, and you can see that she lives her songs. I really look up to her and admire her for that.”

Sheryl Crow Blasts Drake’s Use of 2Pac AI Vocals on ‘Taylor Made Freestyle’: ‘It’s Hateful’

Sheryl Crow is voicing her concern with the artificial intelligence tidal wave sweeping the music industry as the “slippery slope” of AI has her worried about the future.

The Grammy-winning singer recently spoke to the BBC about AI, which she believes “goes against everything humanity is based on.” Crow even ripped Drake for attempting to resurrect 2Pac while using the late rapper’s AI vocals alongside Snoop Dogg’s on Drizzy’s “Taylor Made Freestyle” diss track directed at Kendrick Lamar.

“You cannot bring people back from the dead and believe that they would stand for that,” she said. “I’m sure Drake thought, ‘Yeah, I shouldn’t do it, but I’ll say sorry later.’ But it’s already done, and people will find it even if he takes it down. It’s hateful. It is antithetical to the life force that exists in all of us.”

Billboard has reached out to Drake’s team for comment on Crow’s comments.

Crow wrestles with topics such as artificial intelligence and its jarring ramifications on her Evolution album’s title track, which arrived earlier in 2024.

In April, Tupac Shakur’s estate threatened legal action if the OVO mogul didn’t take down his “Taylor Made Freestyle” from social media. The estate shared the cease-and-desist-letter exclusively with Billboard.

“The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality,” the estate’s attorney, Howard King, wrote in the letter. “Not only is the record a flagrant violation of Tupac’s publicity and the estate’s legal rights, it is also a blatant abuse of the legacy of one of the greatest hip-hop artists of all time. The Estate would never have given its approval for this use.”

King continued: “The unauthorized, equally dismaying use of Tupac’s voice against Kendrick Lamar, a good friend to the Estate who has given nothing but respect to Tupac and his legacy publicly and privately, compounds the insult.”

Less than 24 hours later, Drake obliged and removed the track from his social media platforms.

Earlier this week, the three major music companies each filed lawsuits against AI music startups Suno and Udio. They cited the alleged repeated infringement of copyrighted recordings “at an almost unimaginable scale.”

Former Dave Matthews Band Member Boyd Tinsley Arrested for DUI

According to a statement shared to Billboard by the Albemarle County Police Department: “On Monday, June 24, at approximately 5:54 pm, the Albemarle County Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash that had occurred in the area of Seminole Trail (U.S. 29) and Woodbrook Drive. There were no reported injuries as a result of the crash. Based on the result of the investigation, responding officers took one adult male into custody on suspicion of DUI. He was transported to Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail.”

This is not Tinsley’s first legal trouble of the year. In February, Tinsley was hit with a new lawsuit alleging that the musician breached the terms of a sexual harassment lawsuit that was settled in 2019. Boyd was sued in May 2018 by trumpeter James Frost-Winn of making frequent sexual comments to him over the course of their professional relationship as a member of the band Crystal Garden, which Boyd formed, produced and managed for a documentary project indented to chronicle the group’s rise to fame.

Trending on Billboard

The two parties agreed to a $837,000 settlement payment to Frost-Winn in 2019, but lawyers for Frost-Winn claim that Tinsley breached a “mutual non-disparagement” clause on February 22, 2022 in a series of posts on social media, which goes against the clause that prevented either party from discussing the matter publicly.

The violinist appeared on every Dave Matthews Band album from 1994’s Under the Table and Dreaming through 2018’s Come Tomorrow. In February 2018, Tinsley announced he was leaving the band shortly before the sexual harassment accusations became public, writing in a statement, “I need to take a break from the band & touring 2 focus on my family & my health 4 a while. I will miss you guys & my brothers in the band but I’m somewhat worn out & need 2 spend more time with my family & 2 bring more balance to my life.”

Justin Bieber Holds Onto Wife Hailey Bieber’s Baby Bump in Adorable Instagram Post

Justin Bieber is ready to be a dad!

The superstar took to Instagram on Tuesday (June 25) to share a series of photos over the past few weeks, including the first snap — a gorgeous black-and-white photo in which he’s seen kissing his wife, Hailey Bieber, on a boat as he holds on to her growing belly.

The “Love Yourself” singer and Rhode founder announced that they are expecting their first child together back in May, when they took to Instagram to share a series of photos and videos from a film shoot they did among a vast meadow, in which Hailey is seen wearing a skin-tight lace gown, cradling her growing baby bump as Justin snaps photos of her. In one of the clips, the couple also renewed their vows.

Oh my goodness! YES!”

The couple officially wed in September 2018 at a New York City courthouse. A year later, they flew down to the Montage Palmetto Bluff hotel in South Carolina with their friends and family for a more traditional wedding ceremony and star-studded party.

Creepy Nuts’ ‘Bling-Bang-Bang-Born’ Logs 19th Week at No. 1 as IS:SUE’s ‘CONNECT’ Debuts at No. 2 on Japan Hot 100

Creepy Nuts’ “Bling-Bang-Bang-Born” continues to rule the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for the 19th week on the chart released June 26.

The viral hip-hop hit comes in at No. 2 for downloads, streaming, video views, and karaoke this week. Downloads for the MASHLE Season 2 opener increased slightly compared to last week and overall points decreased only slightly, perhaps due to the duo wrapping up its headlining tour over the weekend (June 23) after having been on the road since March.

Now in its 19th week atop the Japan Hot 100, “BBBB” is closing in on the all-time record for most weeks at No. 1 held by YOASOBI’s “Idol,” which ruled the tally for 22 weeks.

Bowing at No. 3 is JEONGHAN X WONWOO’s “Last night (Guitar by Park Juwon)” by two members of the K-pop group SEVENTEEN. The single sold 99,154 CDs in its first week and hits No. 2 for sales, while hitting No. 29 for downloads, No. 36 for video and No. 58 for streaming.

Mrs. GREEN APPLE’s “Lilac” slips 3-4 this week, but the track has reached No. 1 for streaming after steadily climbing the ranks for weeks. The song has been hovering in the top five on the Japan Hot 100 for ten consecutive weeks.

Outside the top 10, MY FIRST STORY x HYDE’s “Mugen” climbs 21-13. The opener for the Hashira Training arc of the popular anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba saw increases in downloads (158% week-over-week), streaming (114%), and radio (132%) ahead of the final episode of the season airing this Sunday (June 30).

Chayce Beckham on His Musical Interests & Coming Full Circle Back to Country

Long before Chayce Beckham hit No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart with “23,” he was a teenager growing up in inland Southern California with varied and diverse musical interests. The American Idol season 19 winner, who cites outlaw country legends Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard as influences, even went through a reggae phase — “around the same time I started smoking weed,” he tells Billboard’s Behind the Setlist podcast.

“I just really branched out and looked for anything and everything,” says Beckham, who once sang and played guitar in The Sinking Sailors, a four-piece with a Caribbean-meets-skater sound not unlike quintessential Southern California band Sublime. “I wanted to be a rapper at one point, and I wanted to be a punk rocker, and I wanted to be a reggae artist, and then I made my way back to country music,” he says.

Trending on Billboard

Coming full circle was a fateful — and fruitful — decision for Beckham. “23” topped Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated April 6) and has amassed nearly 500 million streams globally through June 20, according to Luminate. It marked the first time in 12 years that a No. 1 Country Airplay song was solo written by the performer. The previous artist to accomplish the feat? Taylor Swift with her song “Ours.”

Not that reggae-drenched rock didn’t suit Beckham’s voice, but his delivery is perfectly suited for songs such as “Everything I Need,” the latest single from his debut album, Bad For Me (released April 5 on Wheelhouse Records). The song, along with “Devil I’ve Been,” a frequent show opener, came from a writing session with John Pierce (Zac Brown Band’s “Sweet Annie,” Jon Paris “Your Heart Or Mine”) and Lindsay Rimes (Nate Smith’s “World On Fire,” Kane Brown’s “Cool Again”) while on Luke Bryan’s 2023 Farm Tour.

“A bunch of the songs that are on the project we got from bringing the writers out on the road,” he says. “That was really good for me. I felt like it was just a lot more relaxed. I could kind of just be a little bit more creative and not so pressured into the songs.”

Ariana Grande’s Biggest Billboard Hot 100 Hits

Ariana Grande may have first come to public attention through the Nickelodeon series Victorious, but the real triumph was her elevation from television teen star to music industry juggernaut like few acts have ever achieved. From the jump, Grande emerged as an instant fan favorite: Her debut single, the Mac Miller-assisted “The Way,” debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, while its parent album, 2013’s Yours Truly, opened atop the Billboard 200.

Such feats would become the norm for Grande in the next decade of her glittering career, with 22 top 10s – including nine No. 1s – on the Hot 100, and six of her seven studio albums achieving the top spot on the Billboard 200. In that time, too, she’s become a versatile vocalist, finding hits in pop, R&B, dance and holiday fare. Even more, Grande’s range – both vocally and creatively – has allowed her to become an in-demand collaborator, teaming with a bunch of hitmakers, including Lady Gaga, Lana Del Rey, Miley Cyrus, Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber, Doja Cat and, of course, finding multiple hit collabs with The Weeknd and Nicki Minaj.

As Grande celebrates her birthday on June 26, Billboard counts down the multi-talented singer and actress’ 30 biggest hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart – yuh.

Ariana Grande’s Biggest Billboard Hot 100 hits chart is based on actual performance on the weekly Billboard Hot 100 through June 29, 2024. Songs are ranked based on an inverse point system, with weeks at No. 1 earning the greatest value and weeks at No. 100 earning the least. Due to changes in chart methodology over the years, eras are weighted to account for different chart turnover rates over various periods.
