mother's day

Where would music be without the mothers of today’s biggest stars? Thanks to the moms of Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish and more stars, we’ll never have to know.
And to celebrate Mother’s Day this year, both the Wicked star and “Lunch” singer joined several other musicians in publicly honoring the women that gave them life Sunday (May 11). On Instagram Stories, Grande posted two old photos of her childhood self with her mom, Joan Grande, and wrote, “My brilliant, beautiful mama.”

“I love you endlessly and always,” added the “Yes, And?” singer.

For Eilish’s part, the nine-time Grammy winner shared a video of her mom, Maggie Baird, and wrote on her Story, “best mom in the world.” “You are so pretty,” Eilish tells the climate activist in the clip as they stand outside, to which Baird sweetly replies, “I love you.”

In addition to celebrating her own mom, Mandy Teefey, Selena Gomez posted a photo of herself with fiancé Benny Blanco and his mom, as well as a snap of the Rare Beauty founder’s cousin Priscilla with her family. “Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while.. but their hearts forever and ever,” Gomez wrote on Instagram. “One of my favorites. And I love all the mothers in my life.”

Other stars who showered their mothers with love on social media this holiday include Lizzo — who shared two Instagram snaps with mom Shari and wrote, “I HAVE THEE FINEST MAMA IN THE GAME” — while SZA reshared photos of mom Audrey from a fan account on her Story and gushed, “My beautiful mommyyy ugh …”

Plus, Justin Bieber posted a couple throwback photos from his childhood with his mom, Pattie Mallette, while Miley Cyrus’ mom, Tish, got a big bouquet of pink flowers from youngest daughter Noah Cyrus in a clip posted by the “July” singer on TikTok.

As the stars who spotlighted their moms on social media well know, their lives and careers would not be possible without the women who raised them. A few of those ladies have opened up this past year about the challenges of raising future celebrities, with Teefey and Baird joining Beyoncé’s mom, Tina Knowles, as well as Donna Kelce, mother of Travis and Jason Kelce, in talking about the subject for a mom-themed issue of Glamour in October.

“My husband and I are working class actors,” Baird told the publication at the time of raising Eilish and producer FINNEAS. “We eked out a meager living, and it afforded us a lot of time with our kids, which was awesome. But the industry is primarily people like us or even people not even like us who couldn’t even do that. So when all of this happened to our kids, we’d never been on that side of it.”

“We had some moments where I was like, ‘Listen, they can pick up their own suitcases,’” added Knowles, who was crowned Billboard‘s Mother of the Year at the 2025 Women in Music ceremony. “’You look people in the eye, say hello, don’t turn into a diva. That’s not going to work here.’ You have to teach your kids that … because everybody’s trying to handle everything for them and kissing their butts sometimes. And I am like, ‘No, no, no, you’re not helpless.’”

Justin Bieber made sure Hailey Bieber felt extra appreciated on her very first Mother’s Day as a parent, giving his famous wife a lavish celebration that he shared on Instagram Sunday (May 11).
In one video shared by the pop star, Justin films Hailey while sitting next to her at an outdoor poolside dinner table decked out with flowers, candles and a bowl of tortilla chips as a mariachi quartet enters the frame. As the musicians play their instruments, the Rhode founder covers her mouth with surprise, periodically looking back at her husband and smiling lovingly.

Also on Mother’s Day, Justin shared a carousel of photos of Hailey hanging out in a living room area as hockey plays on the TV. In one shot, the back of 9-month-old Jack Blues’ head is visible in the bottom right corner of the frame.

“Best mommy day gurlie,” the “Yummy” singer captioned the post.

The holiday marked the Biebers’ first time celebrating Mother’s Day since welcoming baby Jack in August, becoming parents six years after tying the knot in 2018. On her own Instagram page, Hailey shared photos from her pregnancy in 2024 as well as more recent snaps of her son’s tiny hands and feet, writing, “i love being your mommy Jack Blues. Happy Mothers Day.”

The couple has deliberately refrained from sharing their child’s face online, but they do keep fans in the loop by sometimes posting photos of Jack that don’t show defining features. In April, the “Peaches” artist uploaded a photo of his son perched on his belly, seemingly ready to start crawling.

Justin and Hailey’s Mother’s Day posts come a few weeks after they attended Coachella together. After returning home to Los Angeles, Justin called out the city’s paparazzi by posting a video of a flock of photographers blocking his path outside as he walked to his car.

“This has to stop,” he captioned the clip, later writing in a follow-up post, “IM CURRENTLY ASKING [GOD] TO HELP ME WITH PATIENCE BECAUSE It CAN BE REALLY HARD TO NOT RIP THESE F–KIN GUYS HEADS OFF.”

This Mother’s Day is a special one for Halle Bailey: It’s her first as a mom following the arrival of her baby Halo a few months ago. And to celebrate, the vocalist shared a raw video from her son’s birth via Instagram on Sunday (May 12), along with clips from her first few weeks of motherhood.
In the reel, Bailey holds her newborn while still laying in her hospital bed, presumably just moments after welcoming her son. Another shot shows her boyfriend and Halo’s father, rapper DDG, cradling the tiny baby boy.

As the video goes on, Halo gets bigger and bigger through various shots of the Little Mermaid star cuddling her son. In one clip, the baby grabs at her face with his little hands, and in another, she holds him next to a drum set in a recording studio.

“my first mother’s day,” she captioned the post. “the greatest love i’ve ever known.”

Bailey first announced she’d become a parent on Jan. 6. “Even though we’re a few days into the new year, the greatest thing that 2023 could have done for me, was bring me my son,” she wrote on social media at the time. “Welcome to the world my halo. The world is desperate to know you.”

Last month, the “Angel” singer opened up about her experience with postpartum depression, revealing in a Snapchat video, “I have severe, severe postpartum [depression], and I don’t know if any new moms can relate, but it’s to the point where it’s really bad, and it’s hard for me to be separated from my baby for more than 30 minutes at a time before I start to kind of freak out.”

“When I look at him, I cry because of how special he is,” she added. “The only thing that’s been hard for me is feeling normal in my own body. I feel like a completely different person. When I look in the mirror, I just feel like I’m in a whole new body. Like, I don’t know who I am.”

Though he’s only a few months old, Halo is already a music video star. In the April-released visual for “In Your Hands,” Bailey holds her son while belting the new track.

Travis Barker is celebrating Kourtney Kardashian on their first Mother’s Day since welcoming their baby son, Rocky Thirteen, together in November. “Happy Mother’s Day to my best friend and partner. Our children are so lucky to have you. Thank you for filling our home with love, laughter, and joy. I love you forever and ever […]

Leave it to Rihanna to be the most stylist mom on Mother’s Day. The “Needed Me” superstar stepped out for a date with partner A$AP Rocky on Sunday night (May 12), as they were photographed getting out of a taxi in New York City. Rihanna paired her freshly blonde locks with a sleek, red Comme […]

Madonna is sharing a reminder that Mother’s Day can be hard for some people. While honoring her late mom and namesake on Sunday (May 12), the pop star opened up in an emotional Instagram post about how she wasn’t aware of the extent of her mom’s fatal illness as a child.
“I stood on stage for 81 shows staring up at the beautiful face of my mother and wondering what she must’ve been thinking as she waved goodbye to me from her hospital window,” she wrote, sharing photos of her mother’s image on stage at one of her recent Celebration Tour shows.

“I stepped into the station wagon and shut the door not knowing it was the last time I’d see her,” she continued in her post. “Nobody told me my mother was dying – I just watched her disintegrate mysteriously and then she disappeared and there was no explanation except that she had gone to sleep which explains My Tumultuous relationship with sleep.”

The “Material Girl” singer’s mother, Madonna Louise Ciccone, died at age 30 after a battle with breast cancer in 1963. The future superstar was just five years old when it happened.

“When I stepped out on the stage and looked up at my mothers face every night,” added the seven-time Grammy winner, “I said hello I said goodbye. I said Thank you. I hope you’re proud of me. I said Please protect me and keep me sane.”

Now 65, Madonna is a mother to six kids, including Lourdes Leon, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend Carlos Leon, and son Rocco Ritchie, whom she welcomed with ex-husband Guy Ritchie. She and the director went on to adopt David shortly after the musician founded her charity organization Raising Malawi in 2006. Later, she adopted Mercy, then Stella and Estere — all three of whom are also from Malawi — as a single mother.

“Tonight all of my children sleep Under one roof which is Rare and comforting,” Madonna noted in her post, which also featured photos of all of her kids. “They grow up too fast and spin out in different directions And yes I have a hard time letting go … I became very close to my children on this tour. We clung to each other. In the long hours we worked and struggled. They helped me manifest my dreams.”

The post comes about a week after the Queen of Pop wrapped the Celebration Tour with a record-breaking show at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach Saturday (May 4), an event that saw more than 1.6 million fans show up for the free performance. The concert put a bow on several months of performances following the tour’s kickoff in London in October.

All four of Madge’s youngest kids joined her as fellow performers on the trek, for which she had Mercy accompany her on piano during “Bad Girl,” duetted with David on “Mother and Father” and danced with twins Stella and Estere to “Don’t Tell Me.”

“They never stopped practicing… they never stopped cheering me on and supporting me,” the star gushed about her children in a recent post. “They were also going to school and rehearsing every night. !! . am so very proud of all of them.”

Maya Rudolph has officially achieved “Mother” status on Saturday Night Live.
During her opening monologue on the Mother’s Day episode on May 11, the former SNL cast member gave a show-stopping musical performance that channeled Madonna‘s hit song “Vogue” and Beyonce‘s Renaissance aesthetics.

The glitzy monologue opened with the actress-comedian mentioning to the audience that she’s a four-time mother. SNL cast member Bowen Yang quickly chimed in to remind her, “But Maya, look — you’re not just a mom. You’re Mother,” adding, “You were the first to slay the house down boots, queen!”

Rudolph takes a liking to the new title and celebrates with a throbbing dance number while sporting a reflective black bodysuit and strutting through Studio 8H — aka the “House of Rockefeller” — surrounded by elaborately dressed backup dancers.

“I’m your mother/ I’m your mother,” she repeats in a Madonna-esque fashion. “I’m your… Oops, I’ve made you dance/ Remember that movie when I pooped my pants?/ When you were a baby, you pooped your pants and I changed your diaper/ I’m your mother.”

SNL‘s Chloe Fineman and her adorable dog interrupt the party by asking Rudolph if “dog moms” should also be honored on Mother’s Day. “What about them?” she replies. “And honey, that’s not a dog, that’s a b—-.”

Saturday’s SNL marked Rudolph’s third time hosting the long-running sketch comedy show since leaving the program as a cast member 17 years ago.

Elsewhere during the episode, Rudolph reprised her role as Beyonce for a hilarious parody of the chicken wing-themed YouTube series Hot Ones. In the sketch, a follow-up to her parody from 2021, the comedian dons a cowboy hat and red, white and blue getup similar to the outfit Queen Bey sports on the cover of her latest album, Cowboy Carter, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in early April.

Watch Rudolph’s SNL monologue below. For those without cable, the broadcast streams on Peacock, which you can sign up for at the link here. Having a Peacock account also gives fans access to previous SNL episodes.
