As Carlee Russell recovers after going missing last week and being found in Alabama, her boyfriend expressed how she spent two days fighting for her life.
The country was riveted as word spread of the disappearance of Alabama nursing student Carlee Russell after she made an emergency call to help a toddler on the side of a highway. Many social media users, eager to help find the missing young Black woman, helped to spur the search for her afterward until late Saturday night when Russell arrived back at her home. Her boyfriend, Thomar Latrell Simmons, wrote a Facebook post shortly after expressing his relief and also shedding some light on the ordeal.
âShe was literally fighting for her life for 48 hours, so until sheâs physically & mentally stable again she is not able to give any updates or whereabouts on her kidnapper at this very moment,â he wrote.
The post created Sunday (July 16) contains pictures of Simmons and Russell together. He continued: âI have been going nonstop since I received the call that she was missing on Thursday night. I know she wouldâve done the same for me, so I wasnât going to give up until I saw her face again!â
Simmons expressed his thanks to all of those concerned including family and friends who helped with the search and even addressed those skeptical of Russellâs disappearance or speculating he had a hand in it. âI was straight tunnel vision, even when I would get on social media on my downtime & see some of the false allegations & assumptions about me having something to do with her abduction would have me discouraged at times I didnât give up & kept my faith!â he wrote.
Carlee Russell was taken to UAB Hospital from her home in Hoover after she arrived for a medical examination. Authorities say that the investigation will be a âtedious process,â and Russellâs parents have declined to talk about where she was for those 48 hours. Talitha Russell, Carleeâs mother, did express annoyance over those skeptical of her daughterâs disappearance and return in an interview with the Today show. âI just didnât know people could be so evil,â she said. âSheâs having to deal with the trauma of people making completely false allegations about her.â

Three Black Michigan rappers have been missing for over a week after their show in Detroit was canceled due to technical problems.
Armani Kelly, Dante Wicker and Montoya Givens went missing over a week ago after their show in Detroit was canceled due to technical problems. According to The New York Times, the men have not been heard from since Jan. 21, and both missing persons and homicide units with the Detroit Police Department are investigating.Â
Wicker and Givens, both 31, were supposed to join Kelly, 27, who was performing at only his second show in his career. Kelly is from Oscoda, Mich., approximately three hours away from Detroit. He drove down for the show at a club called Lounge 31.Â
His fiancĂŠe, Taylor Perrin, of Grand Rapids, Mich., said that she spoke to him at about 5 p.m. on Jan. 21 and that he told her about the technical difficulties and that he was planning to look for another venue with an open mic.Â
According to the report, Kelly met Wicker and Givens while they were all in prison. While the police said that all three were to be at Lounge 31 Jan. 21 for a rap event, it is unclear if Wicker and Givens were also supposed to perform. The car that Kelly was driving which belonged to his mother was found in Warren, Mich., a Detroit suburb.Â
Detroit Police have said that there has been no activity on any of the menâs phones since Jan. 21. âWhat was the most concerning, candidly, was the fact that thereâs been no activity on their phones since theyâve been reported missing,â James E. White, the Detroit police chief, said at a news conference on Tuesday. âAnd thatâs very, very concerning. Thatâs an unusual circumstance.â
Michigan police and police in three surrounding cities are actively working on the case.Â
âOur determination and love for him is whatâs been driving us this whole time,â Perrin told The New York Times. âAnd not knowing whether the man Iâm supposed to marry is dead or alive â I canât stop until I see his face again, and I wonât.â
