In just two months, MEOVV has leaped onto the K-pop scene by showcasing a promising range and bold artistry set to claw out a legacy all their own.
The five-member girl group is the first-ever launched by THEBLACKLABEL, the agency founded by legendary producer Teddy with over 25 years in crafting K-pop classics by the likes of BIGBANG, 2NE1, PSY and BLACKPINK, that now houses top talent like Rosé, Taeyang, Jeon Somi and more. The excitement around MEOVV’s debut translated into a record deal with Columbia Records, millions of views on the group’s intriguing, fashion-forward teaser visuals, and bold debut single “MEOW” roaring onto Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart at No. 10 in September.
MEOVV members Sooin, Gawon, Anna, Narin and Ella’s impressive multilingual abilities — able to communicate in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish — are matched by an undeniable warmth and relatability. Speaking with Billboard from Seoul during an evening Zoom call, the members spoke mostly in English but flowed seamlessly between languages, exuding a genuine camaraderie that belied their relatively short time as a group. Even with just months under their belts as a team, the group spoke about the pride they had in their music (especially as “TOXIC” was co-written by Gawon and Narin) and hoping to be a place of comfort for fans (emphasizing how they want to be relatable and authentic).

But my favorite song of all time is: “TOXIC” by MEOVV — throughout the entire music video shoot, I kept telling my members that I love “TOXIC” and that the more I listen to it, the more I like it. I really feel like “TOXIC” is going to become one of my favorite songs.
The movie that gives me comfort is: Train to Busan — it’s such a fun movie that I never get tired of watching, no matter how many times I see it. I watch it every now and then or when I’m bored! [Laughs]
My favorite quote or best advice someone gave me: When I was a trainee, I did a profile test shoot. At the time, the stylist who was helping us with our outfits told me, “You’re definitely going to make it big.” That comment still gives me strength and determination to keep moving forward to this day.

Jussie Smollet’s 2019 conviction for making a false hate crime claim has been overturned. Keep watching for the full story.

The Illinois Supreme Court has overturned actor/singer Jussie Smollett’s conviction on allegations that he staged a racist and homophobic attack against himself in downtown Chicago and then lied to police in 2019. In 2021, the ‘Empire’ actor was convicted of five felony counts of disorderly conduct for allegedly staging a hate crime against himself and was sentenced to 150 days in county jail. Smollett has always maintained his innocence. He has testified that “there is no hoax.” We caught up with him in the studio earlier in September where he shared this:

It’s really about knowing who you are and being OK with that, and recognizing your flaws and acknowledging your flaws but not letting anyone else tell you who you are.

That same month, the court heard an appeal that argued that a special prosecutor should not have been allowed to intervene after the Cook County State’s Attorney initially dropped charges.
But today, according to the Chicago Tribune, Smollett’s conviction has been overturned. Billboard received a statement from Special Prosecutor Dan K. Webb regarding the Illinois Supreme Court’s reversal of convictions and sentence of Jussie Smollett. “We respectfully disagree with the court’s factual and legal reasoning which upends long-standing Illinois precedent.”
We have also heard from Smollett’s lawyer Nenye Uche: “This was not a prosecution based on facts, rather it was a vindictive persecution and such a proceeding has no place in our criminal justice system. Ultimately, we are pleased that the rule of law was the big winner today. We are thankful to the Illinois Supreme Court for restoring order to Illinois’ criminal law jurisprudence.”

Growing up in Indianapolis made me such a dreamer. I remember when I was posting covers on YouTube, like, I was so young and weird. My mom was seriously my biggest cheerleader has spent so much money on flights, you know, like, just not even knowing where it would go. I feel like discovering my sound is … I’m still doing that. I don’t think that I want to know. It’s fun to just not really know where you’re gonna go. When I first got signed, when I was 18, I hadn’t really gone through life, and I had never been in a relationship. I had never been in love before, and then around that time, life just threw at me so much stuff, but now my music has gained a lot of depth. Now I don’t even like songs if I don’t feel it so.

The 2024 CMA Awards took over Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday night (Nov. 20) to honor country’s brightest stars, from fresh talent like new artist of the year winner Megan Moroney to CMA Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award honoree George Strait.
The awards show — hosted by Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson and Peyton Manning — was packed with performances, from Shaboozey playing his 18-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” alongside his single “Highway” to Brooks & Dunn joining forces with Jelly Roll for a come-to-Jesus performance of “Believe.”
Post Malone pulled double duty, kicking off the show with Chris Stapleton for the F-1 Trillion standout “California Sober” and then showing his sensitive side with the song “Yours,” inspired by his 2-year-old daughter. Stapleton has also hit the stage a few times — with his 2023 single “White Horse” picking up two early awards (not to mention a win for male vocalist of the year) and joining wife Morgane Stapleton for a gloriously harmonized performance of “What Am I Gonna Do.”
Stapleton was also part of the musical tribute to Strait, performing “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame” alongside the Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. Their duet was preceded by tribute performances from Wilson, Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum.
The winners on Wednesday night included Cody Johnson’s Leather taking home album of the year; Old Dominion winning vocal group of the year for a seventh time; Brooks & Dunn taking home vocal duo of the year for a 15th time; Ella Langley and Riley Green winning musical event of the year for “you look like you love me”; and Wilson’s “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” being named video of the year.
