Alex Sensation & More Debate Best Get Up Anthems of Miami | Billboard x Tres Generaciones Tequila

Billboard and Tres Generaciones Tequila are partnering to find out the Get Up Anthems of select cities, and for this stop, we’re in Miami, Fla. In conversation with Rocsi Diaz, Miami natives Alex Sensation and Trina sat with Billboard’s Heran Mamo and Jessica Roiz to curate their top 10 Get Up Anthems for Miami. The list includes songs that inspired and energized their city, by Miami artists, presented by Tres Generaciones Tequila.

Alex Sensation:
It was only, like, a couple of years ago that I really found out that Flo Rida is Florida. I didn’t know that.

Rocsi Diaz:

Our mission? To uncover the ultimate Get Up Anthems for cities across the nation, and today, we’re in the vibrant beautiful city of Miami, Fla. Thank you, Hector. Contributing to this discussion, I’m joined by Miami’s very own Diamond Princess, Trina, radio phenomenon Alex Sensation and Billboard’s Heran Mamo and Jessica Roiz.

Just a few days ago, we began the selection process for Miami’s Get Up Anthems. Now, it was challenging, but with Billboard’s exclusive chart data, we narrowed it down to just a few tracks that are now in this bowl. These selections are up for discussion as we finalize the top 10 list and crown Miami’s No. 1 Get Up Anthem.

Rick Ross’ “Hustlin’.” First of all, let’s just talk about how Rick Ross came on the scene. Talk about blowing up, and I think it was his voice, Trina, that captivated the world. I think for me, it was Biggie, but then he came on and it was like a voice that filled a void that we were missing.

In partnership with Billboard and Johnnie Walker, Ovy on the Drums sat down with rising star PapiKaiser to offer industry advice, listen to music and share a toast as part of the Voces del Futuro video series.

I am who I am today obviously thanks to my talent and my effort, but behind that there’s a mountain of people that have contributed to what I am today. The truth is that it never crossed my mind, my dreams of being a producer, my dreams of being an artist. Never. Ovy on the Drums here. I’m with Billboard and Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whiskey celebrating and advising the voices of the future. For me, it’s obviously an honor to share all that I’ve learned with these new artists.

Well, the truth is every day is like the first day that I discovered my love for music.

PapiKaiser:

At what age did you discover you wanted to be a music producer?

Ovy On The Drums:

Around 20 years old. I discovered that i was born for this. What year did you begin making songs?

PapiKaiser:

I began in 2019. I release my first song title “Cura” in Spanish. Well, Ovy, I brought you this song here that’s cooking up in the pot right now and I want to share it with you. Let’s listen.

Billboard Staffers React to Kendrick Lamar’s ‘GNX’ Chart Takeover | Billboard Unfiltered

In this episode of Billboard Unfiltered, Billboard staffers Kyle Denis, Trevor Anderson, Carl Lamarre and Damien Scott discuss Kendrick Lamar’s GNX chart takeover, along with their initial reactions to the surprise drop, Drake’s legal battle with UMG over “Not Like Us,” J. Cole’s Inevitable podcast series and his 10-year anniversary show at MSG for Forest Hill Drive.

Carl Lamarre:
I think his run this year is probably comparable to what we see maybe from like an ‘08 Wayne, an ‘03 50, a 2018 Drake.

Kyle Denis:
I don’t like this arriving during, you know, GNX week, it’s like … it’s a little bit pathetic.

Trevor Anderson:
Oh I already know I love this. I just haven’t had access to it and you mean to tell me it’s right here, you know, on the app that I already use. Like, let’s go, let’s download it, let’s play it. 

Carl Lamarre: 
Before the break, Compton superstar Kendrick Lamar did a surprise drop. Now I’m here to talk about it with you guys. GNX, his sixth studio album, 12 tracks, featuring SZA, a slew of up-and-coming L.A. rappers. The project came No. 1 on the 200, 319 album equivalent units, seven records in the top 10 of the Hot 100. He’s occupying the top five, No. 1 with “Squabble Up.” Mr. Lamar is back in full force, gentlemen. How do we feel about this album?

Damien Scott:
Fire, in a word.

Carl Lamarre:
Fire?

Damien Scott: 
Fire. Also, just straightforward rap. You know, just like … I know that PG, Dave and Kendrick love to be subversive, they love to just do what everyone is not expecting them to do, and I think this album is a great example of that. Every Kendrick album is like a grand affair. It has this big, huge meaning that has to get worked through.

Ye’s ‘Bound 2’ Catapults Into Top 5 of TikTok Billboard Top 50 | Billboard News

Ye enters the the top five of the TikTok Billboard Top 50 along with Stepz and Silento makes a comeback in the top 10. Keep watching to see who’s No. 1!

A rapper has grabbed his first TikTok chart topper. Stepz’s “Rock” lifts a spot to No. 1 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart dated Dec. 7. Stepz himself even contributed to usages of “Rock.” Also up a spot, Gia Margaret’s “Hinoki Wood” lifts 3-2. “Hinoki Wood” is tied to the Chill Guy meme/trend, with creators using the song to upload content showcasing how much of a chill person they are. Ye’s “Bound 2” re-enters the TikTok Billboard Top 50 at No. 4 – its highest rank yet, which is no coincidence due to the 2013 song’s “We made it to Thanksgiving, so maybe we can make it to Christmas” lyric. Ole 60’s “Thoughts of You” breaks the top 10 for the first time, vaulting 41-6 with the country band’s lyric, “Where’d November go?” And lastly, one other song reaches the top 10 for the first time, and it’s also the week’s top debut: Silento’s “Watch Me,” at No. 9. Drake Is Spotify’s Most Streamed Rapper In U.S. & Globally | Billboard News

Spotify unveiled Drake as the most streamed rapper globally and in the U.S. during Spotify Wrapped, for the eighth year in a row. Keep watching to see how Drake held on to his reign!

Drake is finishing off 2024 as Spotify’s most streamed rapper in the U.S. and globally. On Wednesday, Spotify unveiled its highly anticipated end-of-the-year Wrapped list. The “Rich Baby Daddy” himself topped his hip hop rivals, beating out the likes of Future, Metro Boomin and Kendrick Lamar, all whom Drake has spent the better part of the year in a rap beef with. With Kendrick in particular scoring a No.1 hit with his Drake diss “Not Like Us”, which became the second most streamed song in the U.S., and he currently has a No.1 album with GNX. Not to be outdone, Drake’s top hip-hop artist of 2024 gives the “First Person Shooter” rapper a remarkable flex — he’s been Spotify Wrapped’s top hip-hop artist eight years in a row! Even in a year full of rap beefs, it looks like Drizzy still has his loyal fans supporting him.

J. Cole Reveals Dream Collab Hopes With Meek Mill & Big Sean | Billboard News

In the most recent episode of the Inevitable podcast, J. Cole reveals that he wanted to create a dream collab album with Big Sean and Meek Mill. Keep watching for the full story!

From a “Heaven’s EP” to a dream collab EP? The Dreamville rapper dropped some news on the latest episode of his Inevitable podcast, which chronicles his career, sharing that he once considered creating a team-up album with rappers Meek Mill and Big Sean. Cole revealed that the idea came about back in 2012 when the three men were in studio with mega-producer No ID. It would’ve been a dream album as all three men were already collaborating on each other’s tracks during that time. Here’s a quick history lesson: J. Cole appeared on “24K of Gold” from Big Sean’s 2012 mixtape Detroit, and Big Sean appeared on “Burn” from Meek Mill’s 2012 mixtape Dreamchasers 2. Sadly, it looks like the stars never aligned, as we never got that collab EP. We’ll just have to chalk this up to one of those great “what ifs.” We’ve got our ears locked to J.
