Billie Eilish may earn her second Oscar while everyone notices a major snub. Here are your 2024 Oscar nominations. Billie Eilish and Finneas earned their second Oscar nomination for “What Was I Made For?” If she takes home the trophy for best original song, that will make her a two-time Oscar winner at just the age of 22. But she’ll have to beat out Jon Batiste and Dan Wilson; Scott George; Diane Warren, who received her 15th nomination but has yet to win; and fellow ‘Barbie’ soundtrack writers Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt. Noticeably missing from the category: Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night.”

Julia Michaels:
That’s what I’ve been told.

Rania Aniftos:
What was that like, hearing about that history-making accomplishment?

Julia Michaels:
Overall, just was such an honor. I mean, I’ve … I grew up listening to Disney and watching Disney, Alan Menken and the Lopezs and Howard Ashman, and just the greats, and to be able to, you know, follow in their, their footsteps is beautiful … terrifying and beautiful.

Rania Aniftos:
Obviously, I’m guessing it was pretty intimidating writing for, like, a Disney film. Like, how did you I guess, work through that? Were you were like, “OK, I can do this. I’m set in, they asked me you know, like, and I’m ready to take this on.”

Billboard Explains: Green Day’s Chart Success

Ahead of the release of Green Day’s 14th studio album Saviors, Billboard is looking back at the band’s biggest chart achievements. This is Billboard Explains: Green Day’s Chart Success.

Alyssa Caverley:
Green Day has been a staple on the Billboard charts. Throughout their decades-long career, they’ve appeared multiple times on numerous charts, and with the release of their 14th studio album, Saviors, let’s look back at their biggest chart achievements. This is Billboard Explains: Green Day’s Chart Success.

Green Day’s first song to debut on Billboard charts was “Longview” in 1994. The track climbed all the way to No.1, becoming their first of 12 No. 1s today. And since then, they’ve left their mark on many other Billboard charts, including the Hot 100. The rock band has two top 10 hits, including “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” which peaked at No. 2 in 2005, and “Wake Me Up When September Ends,” which reached No. 6 also in 2005.

The band has earned three No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, including 2004’s American Idiot, 2009’s 21st Century Breakdown, and 2016’s Revolution Radio, which features “Bang Bang.”

Green Day also holds a number of Billboard chart records. They are tied with Foo Fighters and Linkin Park for the second most No. 1s in Alternative AirPlay history with 12 after the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and they’re tied with the Chili Peppers for the fourth most appearances on Alternative AirPlay with 37. Plus, they have the third most top 10s and Alternative AirPlay history with 25, and the second most No. 1s on Rock and Alternative AirPlay with seven.

There’s no doubt that Green Day has left a record-making mark on the charts.
