Marvel Cinematic Universe

Just as hype for Avengers: Doomsday was beginning to really rev up thanks to rumors, leaks and secret set photos hitting the internet, fans were disheartened by the latest news coming out of Marvel Studios pertaining to the highly anticipated film.

According to Variety, the original release date for Marvel’s latest epic has been changed from May 1, 2026 to Dec. 18, 2026. But it doesn’t end there. Doomsday‘s follow-up, Avengers: Secret Wars, has also been pushed back from May 7, 2027 to Dec. 17, 2027. Though no reason was given for the new release dates for both films, we’re going to go out on a limb and place the blame on the Trump administration because what haven’t they made worse at this point? Just sayin’.

While we’re sure this isn’t the news that comic book fans wanted to hear coming out of Disney in relation to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, this wasn’t the only change made to the MCU line-up as Disney continues to shake things up for unknown reasons.

Variety reports:

Disney announced both “Avengers” delays Thursday afternoon, alongside a sweeping reorganization of its coming theatrical slate. Notably, the new calendar saw the studio remove several unannounced Marvel titles off of its calendar. The date of Feb. 13, 2026, previously slotted for an “Untitled Marvel” project, has been removed from the schedule. Meanwhile, the dates of Nov. 6, 2026 and Nov. 5, 2027 — also both previously set for “Untitled Marvel” features — have been amended to simply “Untitled Disney” films.

With those changes, “Avengers: Doomsday” and Sony’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” are now the only Marvel Cinematic Universe entries slated to hit theaters in 2026. Also of note: the new pre-holiday December frame for both “Avengers” installments is the same one that “Spider-Man: No Way Home” launched on in 2021, which became one of the franchise’s highest-grossing installments at $1.9 billion worldwide.

Two huge Avengers films releasing for the Christmas holidays a year apart? Yeah, Marvel’s going to clean up at the box office.

That being said, it seems like Spider-Man: Brand New Day may be the film that will lead into Avengers: Doomsday as it will release four months before the fifth Avengers film on July 31, 2026. With word that the villains for Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be some classic Spidey villains in Tombstone, Scorpion and Boomerang, it should be interesting to see how that particular adventure would tie into Doctor Doom invading the MCU.

As underwhelming as those villains may be, Marvel Studios has yet to let us down with their Spider-Man films. And it would make sense as the next Spidey film will serve as a soft reboot of the franchise and cast Spider-Man as a more grounded superhero as he restarts his life following the events of the multiverse-centered Spider-Man: No Way Home.

But as long as Marvel Studios has a plan to get Spider-Man his black suit in Secret Wars a la the original comic book arc in 1984, and have him face off an actual evil Venom at some point in the future, we’ll let Marvel cook with its current plans.

What do y’all think about Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars getting their films pushed back to the Christmas holidays of 2026 and 2027? Let us know in the comments section below.

Marvel is back, even though it never really left. The official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has arrived and it’s loaded with all the comic delights that makes the MCU great and leaves movie fans begging for more.

A proper rendition of The Fantastic Four—Mister Fantastic aka Reed Richards (portayed by Pedro Pascal), the Invisible Woman aka Sue Storm (Vanessa Kirby), the Human Torch aka Johnny Storm (Joseph Queen aka dude from that last season of Stranger Things) and The Thing aka Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach)—has had several attempts, and fails, but the 2025 version is a reset (well, a rero-futuristic take apparently) that’s shaping up like a proper represenation of the fan-favorite franchise.

We already saw the namesake heroes in the teaser but the trailer up the ante with our first looks at world-eater Galactus and his herald The Silver Surfer (portrayed by a woman, Julia Garner—that will surely get the panties of the toxic fanboys in a bunch). Later for those bozos, because these visual look stunning.

We also get to see Mr. Fantastic in action, and he manages to not look corny.

Watch the trailer for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps below as well as giddy social media reactions in the gallery. It hits theaters Juky 25, but feel free to move that date up, Marvel.

1. Facts, they matter.

4. Is that a compliment?

5. Already mad.

Last year Marvel fans were thrilled when it was revealed that Disney+ would be resurrecting the beloved Netflix series Daredevil. But unfortunately, things have hit a snag and the show is going through a major overhaul.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel execs and head honcho, Kevin Feige aren’t happy with the creative team behind Daredevil: Born Again and have decided to fire the show’s head writers, Chris Ord and Matt Corman along with the directors as they look to reboot the rebooted series. Apparently Feige and the higher-ups over at Marvel reviewed the footage from the upcoming series and were not impressed with what the Daredevil team have been cooking up in their studios and are now looking for a new team to take the helm for the highly anticipated series.
Per The Hollywood Reporter:

With Daredevil’s new direction, Marvel hopes to right the ship on a project with sky-high expectations. The show is Marvel’s first to feature a hero who already had a successful series on Netflix, running three seasons. But sources say that Corman and Ord crafted a legal procedural that did not resemble the Netflix version, known for its action and violence. Cox didn’t even show up in costume until the fourth episode. Marvel, after greenlighting the concept, found itself needing to rethink the original intention of the show.
Marvel plans to keep some scenes and episodes, though other serialized elements will be injected, with Corman and Ord becoming executive producers on the two-season series.
Yeah, hardcore Marvel fans don’t want to wait four full episodes to see Matt Murdock suit up as the man with no fear. We already went through that in season one of the original Netflix series.
Still, this is a blow to the fans who’ve been patiently waiting to see Charlie Cox once again take to the streets of New York as one of MCU’s Defenders. Aside from Cox returning as Daredevil there were rumors that the series would also see the return of Jon Bernthal’s iteration of The Punisher and maybe even Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones. Now with the show’s story and future in limbo for the time being, who knows if those characters will be a part of the show going forward.
With the lackluster response that Disney+’s recent Marvel series have been receiving as of late (She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel and Secret Invasion to name a few), they desperately need a win here and they know it. Should be interesting to see who they hire and what direction they decide to go in with Daredevil: Reborn.

Expect more Starfox! A Marvel executive teased the future of Harry Styles‘ roguish character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new podcast interview on Monday (Jan. 9).

“We certainly didn’t cast Harry for a tag,” Nate Moore said with a laugh on Deadline‘s Crew Call podcast when questioned by host Anthony D’Alessandro about whether the pop star’s surprise cameo at the end of 2021’s Eternals was “just a stunt.”

The producer when on to describe Starfox as “a character maybe I have too much affection for” and revealed Eternals director Chloé Zhao almost singlehandedly gave Styles the role. “Chloé is a giant Harry Styles fan,” Moore said. “I’d always pitch, like, ‘Eros, he’s really cool.’ And she’s like, ‘It’s Harry Styles’ and I was like, ‘Are you sure?’ And she was obsessed and chased him down and got him into the movie.

“But there are more stories to be told with that character,” the exec added. “He’s fascinating. He has a really interesting connection with Thanos — they’re half-brothers, they share the same father. He has an interesting power set, like, he’s a complicated character but a really fun character…Having met Harry Styles, he is as charming as you think you want him to be. And I think there’s no limit to how popular that character’s gonna be once we get to bring him back.”

Since his appearance in Eternals, Styles has continued to flex his burgeoning acting chops in both sci-fi thriller Don’t Worry Darling directed by his now-ex-girlfriend Olivia Wilde and gay romance My Policeman.

Listen to Moore dish on his love of Styles and Starfox below.
