Korean skincare and beauty have walked alongside K-pop music in becoming global forces in their respective industries. Today, two fan-favorites from South Korea come together in a first-of-its-kind partnership.
Billboard can exclusively reveal that Korean skincare innovators Dr.Jart+ has named boy band ENHYPEN as the brand’s first-ever global ambassador. Kicking off with a new campaign called “Supercharged repair, Cicapair” (referencing Dr.Jart+’s beloved Cicapair line known for utilizing Centella Asiatica Extract, or tiger grass, for soothing and improving damaged skin), ENHYPEN will not only star in a series of new visuals (which you can get a first look at here on Billboard) but a campaign showcasing each member solving a challenge tied to a benefit in the Cicapair line and its next generation for new versions of its existing products.

“We are delighted and honored to become the inaugural global ambassadors for Dr.Jart+,” ENHYPEN says in a statement. “We plan to reveal our most authentic and natural selves with Dr.Jart+. We hope our fans around the world join us in our excitement about this partnership with much more to come soon.”

Dr.Jart+’s Global Brand President Christopher K. Wood adds, “Dr.Jart+ brings joy to its community through its high-performance skincare and whimsical, engaging campaigns. ENHYPEN is the ideal inaugural global ambassador for Dr.Jart+. Together, we share passion for innovation, art, creativity and great skin. We are so excited to welcome ENHYPEN and their fans into the world of Dr.Jart+.”

Indeed, Dr.Jart+ and ENHYPEN share a commonality in quickly crossing over worldwide.

A leader of the K-beauty wave, Dr.Jart+ was one of the first Korean brands to have a presence in America in the late ’00s and now boast dozen of products available in major stores like Sephora. Meanwhile, ENHYPEN members Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Sunghoon, Jake, Sunoo and Ni-ki are part of K-pop‘s next generation of border breakers after smashing into the Billboard charts on the first try with their debut EP, Border: Day One, landing at No. 14 on the World Albums chart in November 2020, before climbing the Billboard 200 with five Top 20 entries to their name, most recently peaking at No. 4 with Dark Blood this year. Plus, after playing arenas on their first U.S. tour in 2022, performing for over 85,000 fans on the U.S. leg of their Fate World Tour that wrapped this month, and becoming Prada global ambassadors after attending their first runway show, ENHYPEN know the art of a good first impression.

“Being the first holds a special significance and is memorable,” says ENHYPEN singer Sunoo. “I’m incredibly grateful for ENHYPEN to have the honor of becoming the first global ambassador of the brand. It’s awesome!” The group leader Jungwon shares, “I was very surprised when I first heard of our collaboration with such a renowned brand. Even now, it’s somewhat surreal that we are the brand’s first global ambassador—I’m more than thrilled for this collaboration.”

The new Dr.Jart+ Cicapair line will be available in November 2023 for South Korea, in December for China, and markets across the United States and Europe in the first half of 2024.

Whether you’re a beauty enthusiast or a hardcore ENGENE—or both—more on the campaign is available at the Dr.Jart+ global ambassador page. Read more from the ENHYPEN members on their skincare journeys, pet peeves against sticky textures and more.

Can you tell us about your personal skincare routines or journeys?

JUNGWON: My fans know that I prefer to keep my skincare routine simple and avoid using multiple products. That’s why I love the Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Gel Cream because it perfectly soothes my skin without the need to apply any other products. The best part is its non-sticky texture.

SUNGHOON: My skin was pretty damaged because we wear makeup often and do activities that can irritate our skin, given the nature of our work. These days, I mainly turn to Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Cream as my moisturizer, and I can feel my skin soothing as the product’s texture effectively adheres to my skin.

Your partnership with Dr.Jart+ debuts with the “Supercharged, repair, Cicapair” campaign. Tell us about preparing for and shooting it?

HEESEUNG: I remember having a lot of fun during the shoot because the idea of using music to convey the essence of skincare was refreshingly unique. We all had a blast.

SUNOO: When you see cosmetics ads, you get to see the brand’s image. Being the one to convey that brand image was an amazing experience for me. To prepare for the shoot, I made sure to test all of the Cicapair products to gain a more comprehensive understanding of them.

Do any of you have a history with Dr.Jart+ products?

JUNGWON: As I recall, I have fond memories of using Dr.Jart+ body lotion when I was young. My mom would apply the lotion to my skin after I finished taking a shower. Perhaps that’s why Dr.Jart+ feels like my childhood friend that has grown up with me and will continue to be by my side.

JAY: My favorite product has to be the Dermask that I started using during childhood. I liked that it gave me the impression it’s good for my skin and I think my skin is in great condition today because I’ve been loyal to Dr.Jart+ products since I was young.

SUNGHOON: I’ve been using the Dermaclear Micro pH Foam ever since my school days. I love how effectively they cleanse my skin while keeping it perfectly moisturized.

Have you been able to try the products yourselves? Can you recommend some favorites?

JUNGWON: I’ve been using the Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Serum for the past few days, and I’ve experienced excellent moisturization; the green gel is incredibly hydrating. In the past, I used to apply a thick layer of moisturizing cream to keep my skin hydrated, but this product provides deep moisturization with just a small amount and doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky.

HEESEUNG: My favorite product is the Cicapair Sleepair Intensive Soothing Repair Mask. It keeps my skin well-hydrated throughout the day, and I absolutely love it. It is an essential product for those with extremely dry skin like me. 100 percent recommend this Sleepair Mask. When you open it, you’ll find a jelly-like, elastic, moisturizing texture. When you apply it, it cools down your skin. Leave it on while you sleep and you’ll see your skin glow. It’s so easy!

JAY: I also tried the Cicapair Sleepair Intensive Soothing Repair Mask. I love a good night’s sleep and prefer not to apply anything stuffy on my face before bed because it doesn’t feel nice the next morning. I tried this product the night before the shoot, and, as you can tell from its name, it is such a great product to apply before sleep. What I value most when choosing cosmetics is a light application, and this product fits the bill.

JAKE: My favorite Dr.Jart+ product is the Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Gel Cream. I typically avoid using sticky creams, but this one has a completely non-sticky texture that I love. I definitely recommend it. It doesn’t feel like I’m applying anything on my skin, and when I wake up in the morning, my skin remains wonderfully hydrated.

SUNGHOON: To prepare for the shoot [with Dr.Jart+], I used a Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Serum Mask last night. When I woke up this morning, my skin felt radiant and refreshed…very satisfied with this product.

SUNOO: I noticed that the Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Cream has a slightly thicker texture compared to other products, but it gives advanced soothing effects better than any other items. The finish it leaves on my skin is remarkable, and it doesn’t leave my skin feeling sticky. I feel like my skin was well hydrated after applying this product. What struck me the most was the immediate calming effect upon application. It also strikes a nice balance between oil and water levels, making it suitable for a wide range of skin types. Definitely recommend it as a versatile skincare option, especially as the weather starts to get colder.

NI-KI: I applied the Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Treatment Lotion before going to sleep, and the next day, I noticed a significant improvement in my skin’s hydration after cleansing, I’d like to recommend this lotion.

Fans see ENHYPEN work up a sweat performing on tour and experimenting with beauty and makeup looks for videos and photoshoots. How crucial are good products for your K-pop career?

JAY: I believe it plays a significant role, which is why I prioritize staying well-hydrated and sticking to a thorough cleansing routine. Good skincare and maintaining healthy skin are just as important as achieving a flawless makeup look.

NI-KI: I tend to work up quite a sweat during intense performances at our concerts, so I often apply thick makeup to look my best on stage. Given this, I pay special attention to my cleansing routine to make sure that my skin is fresh and clean at the end of the day.

JAKE: I’ve been using Cicapair Intensive Soothing Repair Treatment Lotion often, actually. After cleansing, using a moisturizing lotion is extremely important because I have dry skin due to daily makeup. I feel like my skin is fully moisturized after using this product. Also, when I wake up in the morning, my skin used to feel dry, but after using this product it feels more hydrated. I’m going to keep using this product for a long time.

You release your ORANGE BLOOD album on November 17, just as the new Dr.Jart+ products launch in Korea. Can you share any hints for what fans can expect?

HEESEUNG: As much as ENGENEs and we have eagerly awaited this album, I have no doubt that it will be a sweet album for all. Let’s gaurr!

NI-KI: In comparison to our last album, DARK BLOOD, this upcoming album features songs and performances with a brighter tone. It’s a chance for us to reveal some fresh sides of ourselves and our music. Please stay tuned!

What else is coming from ENHYPEN before the year ends?

JAKE: The most exciting news is that our fifth mini album ORANGE BLOOD is just around the corner. We’re all eagerly anticipating its release and have put our best efforts into it, with our ENGENEs in mind. I’ve mentioned it many times, but I genuinely believe it’s our best album to date.

SUNGHOON: I agree with JAKE, and to expand on that, I think ORANGE BLOOD has by far the best B-side tracks as well. ENGENEs, please look forward to it!

Anything else to share right now?

JUNGWON: ENGENEs! Thanks to your love and support, ENHYPEN have become the global ambassadors for Dr.Jart+. We’re excited to show our authentic selves through this partnership, so please stay tuned for what’s in store!

It’s Halloween season, so you know Hollywood stars, Hip-Hop stars, and their affiliates, are going to show out. No love for all the idiots who are surely going to be donning wholly inappropriate outfits like blackface, though.
With more of the creativity in mind, we have compiled some of the best Halloween fits for 2023. Will anyone be able to top Diddy’s turn as the Joker in 2022? And let’s not forget his turn as Pennwise the clown?

We shall see.

Whether you were able to score travel deals to attend the concert in person or not, the “ABCDEFU” singer is giving fans a behind-the-scenes peek of her tour through a virtual scrapbook. It will be available following the tour through a 3-minute music video highlighting her experiences. Anyone who views it is also encouraged to use Adobe Express templates to tell their own “Scared But Trying” story.

“It was really important to me to try and meet the people who cared to [come to my] shows and really talk about the theme of Scared But Trying, and what it means for them in their lives, and just being more open about our fears and our insecurities and things that we’re scared to do,” Gayle tells Billboard. “Adobe and I wanted to come together to try and create a space for people and create a community to come together and collaborate.”

Rather than have to download Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Adobe Premiere Pro and more apps onto your laptop, this will be an all-in-one creative app.

Outside of her partnership with Adobe, Gayle also shared insight into it was like for her to tour with artists including Taylor Swift, Pink and My Chemical Romance, as well as her Scared But Trying trek, new music and any essentials she takes on the road.

Read on for our interview with Gayle.

What inspired you to release singles like “Don’t Call Me Pretty,” “Leave Me for Dead” and “I Don’t Sleep As Good As I Used To”?

I was [originally] thinking about making an album because I had put out EPs last year. I was thinking naturally it was developing into an album and I didn’t particularly know what I was doing touring wise. Then, when I had these amazing tour opportunities put in front of me, I obviously wasn’t going to say no because they were really exciting and it was a really big honor — and opening up for Taylor [Swift] and Pink, I had never opened up for a stadium act before.

I’m a perfectionist. I want to try and be great at everything I do and I felt like I couldn’t be great at making my first, like, debut album and be a great touring artist. So I decided to put out singles that I felt captured the energy of my live show and intensities of attitudes that I felt. Then it lead into putting out “Leave Me for Dead” and I was going on tour with Pink and I played that song on the whole Pink tour, and it was a really fun song to play live.

And the bloody covers for each single — how did the idea come about?

When I was thinking of a single cover, I was just thinking my ears bleeding would kind of fit conceptually with the song. If you just heard “Everybody Hates Me” and then you see a picture of a girl and her ears are bleeding, I felt like metaphorically, it kind of said something and was fitting conceptually with where the song was going. Then, I thought it would be cool if the blood just kept getting more and more dramatic, and at some point I actually pick up a knife.

I [also] have this song called “Don’t Call Me Pretty” and it kind of talks about the objectification that people can feel in their life, where it’s like, oh my gosh, isn’t it a compliment, isn’t it so nice to be pretty, but it’s that feeling of when that’s the only thing a person can see you as, and that feeling of being objectified is so beautiful. It makes you feel so hollow. For me, when I’m covered in blood, it’s like I’ve reached that breaking point where that one last person called me pretty or objectified me and made me feel that way [and] I just lost my mind.

Can we expect a debut album anytime soon?

I’m definitely working on starting the process of creating an album and starting to talk about it. It’s also kind of the conversation of do the songs I put out this year, do they go on the album? Do I write completely new songs? Like … we’re really focusing this year on finishing out the touring and this headlining run and really celebrating what the past two years have been for me. Then starting a new era and my perspective with the album.

You’ve also toured with some big names like Taylor Swift, Pink and My Chemical Romance. What has been the best piece of advice you’ve received?

The overall message from everybody that I’ve toured with (when we’ve had conversations) is that it’s obviously a hard thing to tour, it’s a hard thing to put yourself out there. But if you truly love doing it, you really have to put yourself out there, keep consistently working on your craft, keep doing the things you love and good things will follow from that.

That’s really all you can do, you know, there’s no secret button or secret formula, we’re all scared and we’re all just trying our best.

Do you have a favorite experience so far?

Oh gosh, every tour there’s always a highlight. I remember opening up for [My Chemical Romance] and I threw up for the first time. I remember going up and walking on because I was so scared — so scared. Oh my god, I’d never been that scared before ever, ever, ever in my life. Or the first Taylor [Swift] show, I walked on stage ten seconds late — I missed my first line and that was the most like terrifying thing I’ve ever experienced in my life, and I was asking so many questions that I missed my cue to walk on stage, so I had to run, like, sprint on stage, and I missed my first few words.

But even with Pink there’s so many fun times — and even I’m looking at my room right now and I’m seeing, like, a disco ball necklace that somebody threw on stage for me, or big pink heart sunglasses from from people throwing things from the crowd and being on tour during Pride Month is just the best time to be on tour with Pink, ever. The love and the pride that was at that show and what we got to celebrate was so beautiful.

How do you think it prepared you for going on tour solo?

It really made me understand the stamina that it takes to have a live show. When I’m opening up for somebody and I’m out of breath in 30 minutes, versus I know the hour and a half or even three and a half hour show the artist has to play [after] me. It also made me more comfortable with being on stage, and moving around and talking to people, and interacting — I heard this quote and it really spoke to me where it’s like, you don’t get energy from a crowd, you put energy into the crowd and you hope that they bring it back to you. I don’t walk on stage and I’m like, “OK, everybody else get me hype,” I’m like, OK, I need to try and get everybody excited,” and then we can all hopefully make each other more excited off of that excitement.

Are there any tour essentials that you have to take with you?

Oh gosh, we’re taking so much Vitamin Water Zero Sugar. I always bring a tour diary with me because I think it’s important to try note the way that you were feeling on shows — even though it’s very scary traveling with the diary because you can lose it so quickly. I need my bandmates with me — we’re such a family, so I need all of them with me because we always have such a great time, and they’re great emotional support. And fans because I need the people who like my music, and I like them [and] I want to show up and I want to celebrate them — and that is a tour essential. And two obnoxiously oversized suitcases.

Puma recently announced a long-term partnership with A$AP Rocky, who will serve as creative director for the motorsport business category “with a focus on the intersection of the sport and streetwear,” according to a press release.
Puma announced its long-term partnership with F1 earlier this year, which makes the sportswear brand the exclusive licensee and trackside retailer at all races. As creative director of the partnership, Rocky will take on an incubator-style approach to begin creative exploration. For the rest of the year, he will impact the brand’s visuals and video content. His first campaign explores American car culture and its impact on streetwear and fashion. Later this year, he’ll drop an exclusive Puma x F1 apparel and accessories collection, serving as a sneak peek into a series of capsule collections next year in regards to high-visibility F1 races.

In 2024, Rocky will shift creative focus to several Grand Prix races beginning in Miami. He will curate activations at each race and serve as the creative director for all of the marketing efforts surrounding these collections, which he designed in partnership with the Puma and F1 teams.

By 2025, he’ll fully immerse himself into the holistic product creative designs for all of the Puma x F1 product, spanning from racewear to fanwear to fashion. He’ll continue participating in marketing in an ongoing effort to bring disruption to the category via innovative product design and marketing concepts.

“Working with brands as iconic as Puma, and as innovative as F1, has been truly inspiring,” Rocky said in a press statement. “When the world sees what we’re doing, I believe a shift will happen with how brands approach taking risks and working with diverse creatives.”

But the rapper is not the only one with business ties to Puma in his household. His partner Rihanna, with whom he shares two children, recently got back in her Puma bag as the shoe brand’s Fenty label creative director and unveiled her new “Avanti” sneaker design last month.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with A$AP Rocky,” said Maria Valdes, Puma’s chief product officer. “He’s incredibly talented, deeply thoughtful and invested in our brand. He will showcase his vision with elevated F1 race capsules globally, which attract new audiences and undoubtably disrupt the track. In the future, he will influence the broader Puma x F1 range and will continue to help push sport and culture forward.”

Adds Oliver Boden, head of licensing and gaming at F1: “This announcement marks an exciting milestone in our partnership with PUMA. A$AP Rocky’s creativity and commitment to innovation aligns perfectly with F1’s vision and development in apparel. We look forward to collaborating with him to design and curate the PUMA and F1 range and insert F1 into new cultural and lifestyle spaces.”

Besides being a rapper and a father of two, with Rihanna, A$AP Rocky has a new job on his resume. The Harlem rapper has been named the creative director of Puma x F1.

Specifically, Pretty Flacko and the OG German sports company have entered into a creative partnership that will see him adding flavor to it motorsports business. The “Peso” rapper’s official title is Creative Director and he is tasked with guiding Puma’s partnership with Formula 1 (F1) and will be creating seasonal capsule collections.

As announced earlier in 2023, Puma is now the exclusive outfitter at all F1 races. Puma hopes Rocky’s tastes will bring more streetwear and fashion sensibility to their longterm partnership with F1. Rocky’s first campaign for Puma x F1 will spotlight American car culture and it’s influence on streetwear. Also, later this year there will be a limited Puma x F1 collection that will include apparel and accessories that will serve as a hint of all the multiple capsule collections set to drop in 2024. Part of next year’s initiatives are focusing on Grand Prix races, starting in Miami, and will include Rocky creating activations and marketing campaigns to promote the collections.

“Working with brands as iconic as PUMA, and as innovative as F1, has been truly inspiring,” said A$AP Rocky in a statement. “When the world sees what we’re doing, I believe a shift will happen with how brand’s approach taking risks and working with diverse creatives.”
Can’t say he ain’t confident. Also worth noting is that earlier this year Puma linked back up with Rihanna’s Fenty brand. So it’s a family affair.
